Lovely afternoon today, spent a lot of it in my favorite Asian restaurant eating and talking with a friend.

Full moon tonight, rising about sunset. The rain will be here before then so I'll miss it, but the almost full moon was pretty last night.

Those baked goods sound delicious. And the ice cream. And fresh strawberries!

There is a Davenport Iowa too.

GG, that film clip of Metropolis was very Art Deco, very Goth, and very 20th Century. Very 21st Century too, when the streets flooded (ice caps melting?) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for mentioning the full moon tonight, Carl, I wasn't aware. It's clear here so I will look at it. Looked like a severe thunderstorm was closing in on your area. Was it bad?

Hot here with heat index of 100. I may have already posted that.

Getting ready for the big game. Fingers crossed for good outcome. Thunder Up!!

Just rain and thunder tonight, no damage that I can tell. We were in the 80s today but the rain has brought us down to 68. Good night to sleep.

    Talk to you tomorrow

Nanny - that's my main reason for not being on facebook - real names, and zero privacy. I totally understand why you'd change your name. I'm glad you're still here! 🙂

Lorita - Angel food cake sounds yummy. It's been quite awhile since I've had that. I'm usually more like Judith - bring me the chocolate! It's so nice of you to make a cake for Darwin and his wife. I'm sure they're going to love it.

About Toll House …. I've upped my chocolate chip cookie game: I started using Guittard chocolate chips a few years ago. They're more expensive, but man, you can really taste the difference. I'm a convert.

Beth and Judith - Ha! I'm not in bad shape, but I don't think I'll be dancing on a treadmill any time soon! I've seen people walk backwards on them (at slow speeds), but I'm not game to do that either.

eaglemom - the article you mention about dancing is music to my ears! I love dancing, and it sounds like gothic dancing counts. That's a big win in my books.

Carl - it sounds like you had a great day. Nothing like hanging out with friends at a favorite restaurant.

Metropolis is all of those things. I saw that movie in a silent film class in college (it was an elective). I really like silent films as an art form.

It was kind of quiet on my end of the porch - which was nice. Karyn wanted more family photos for the blog, so I found a few of the type she wanted, so that was good. She knows that I have a lot of Duran Duran on vinyl, so she wanted photos of the covers - I was happy to oblige. Peggy was a big Duran Duran fan too, hence the photos of those covers.

Big weekend here on my end of the porch.

4 year old great grandson spent the weekend and another set of grand and great grandchildren came yesterday for lunch. T Ball, golf cart riding and driving lessons and so much food!!

I had forgotten how much attention it requires to have a 4 year old 🤣. I set a kid table in the living room so I could have “eyes on” at all times. We’ve had great fun but man, am I tired!!

The 10 year old comes home from camp today and I’m excited to see her! Can’t wait to hear about camp and I’m hoping she had a really good trip.

Time to make “Nanny’s fancy eggs”, cinnamon toast with smiley faces, bacon and fresh apple slices on a kid sized cafeteria tray🥳

Have a good day and I’ll TTYL 👋

Good morning. My end of the porch is enjoying perfect weather— sunny and warm for the next few days. No rain in the foreseeable future which is a problem. I will need to water some smaller trees.

Gothic G— I took some version of that same film history class and saw Metropolis. It's amazing how well it's held up over time. I introduced my train-maniac son to "The General" a few years ago and I'd forgotten how good some of these movies were.

Hi Nanny G— is your new screen name an homage to your goats?

Lorita— OMG, that is hot so early in the season. Quail eggs are tiny. I find they pop up as a flourish on dishes at fancier restaurants. There were a couple on the salad I shared with my friend at the French bistro the other night.

Eaglemom— The more one reads about dancing, the more benefits there are from it as an activity. We know exercise is good for us, but recalling the steps to different dances is probably great for our brains. Interesting that dance is found across cultures and time.

Carl— Tonight is a rare moon— not just a blue moon but also a micromoon. I'll probably forget by the time it comes up and forget to look.

I have a question for the universe. Why is it that the batteries in the combo smoke/carbon monoxide detector always fail in the middle of the night? Last night the thing started beeping and talking at 2:35. The time before that it was 1:30. In the 15+ years I've had it, it has never once alerted me to low batteries at any time outside of midnight through 4:30am.

Off to do my Sunday crossword. I hope all have a pleasant day.

HB, try changing all your smoke/CO detector batteries on January 1 every year. Then, you will likely never get the beeping.

I have heard that smoke detectors more than 10 years old should be changed for new detectors. I am doing that and have bought detectors with batteries that will last 10 years. Someone else will be living here in 2036 and it will be their problem.

    @Carl46

I've heard that as well. Mom replaced all hers when she redid the house, but they weren't very functional. Mine are the hardwired kind and they test well. The troublemaker is outside the hardwired set because I wanted the carbon monoxide detector near the bedrooms as well.

Lorita— That sounds miserable. Would warm compresses provide some comfort?

Thanks HB my eye is feeling better. Hadn't thought about warm compresses.. Need to use the OcuSoft religiously.

My smoke alarm went off a couple of nights ago, too. Tried a new battery to no avail.New one gets here tomorrow.

It's 93 degrees and windy here. We still have to go to mailbox and take down trash later today. I.dread the long hot summer.

    Good afternoon

Hot and windy here. We've gone from somewhat pleasant to down right hot. I'm going to have to run my errand first thing in the morning from now on. I hate going from a freezing cold grocery store into a sweltering hot car. Then I feel guilty - I have the means to go to the store and get what we need and a car to drive us home to a cold house.

I'm going to do what my mom used to do. Go and look through cookbooks for something different to cook for dinner. Seems I've got quite a lot in our 'rotation' but I'm tired of cooking them! Last year I made a point of added several new things a month but now I'm tired of cooking those. It's a never ending cycle.

    Everyone be safe.
