Really windy here and cloudy. I just cleaned Stormy's ears and he is not happy with me.but he did go down to he mailbox with me.

My trash is picked up really early Monday mornings so I usually take it down Saturday or Sunday and put it in my trash barrel so the coyotes won't tear it up and scatter it everywhere. I just took some down and discovered someome bas sunk to a new low-they stole my trash barrel!! How low can someone go. My neighbor also has a barrel but his house is close whereas mine is over a quarter mile away. Easy picking I guess.

Not sure if I have another one in the crib. It was hard to get the barrel down t here so guess I will get up super early Monday mornings and take it down. Not a good start to my day. Hope someone enjoys my barrel.

Everyone be careful in the storms today.

Don't have prime. Good for you, Judith. Does that take a lot of air?..

When Darwin called I told.him about the theft. He said he didn't know if he had a barrel. Told him not to worry about it. A while ago I heard the alarm and it was him in his Mule with a. barrel. He had one but had to cut off the top.

I'm going to see if I have a short enough chain so I can Put a chain around it and one of the big posts on the entryway and lock it. What a shame a person has to do that. I know it wasn't a neighbor but someone going down the public road.

You couldn't ask for a. Better friend and neighbor. Now I need to make an angel food cake for them. I took one over a few weeks ago and they liked it. Maybe tomorrow.

Darwin is good to you Lorita, but your equally good to him. I'm glad you check on one another. That's how its suppose to be. As for stealing a trash barrel, that's just ridiculous. People, ugh.

I've had several things going on here and its kept me busy. I like to be busy, but I don't like having one thing after another. I'm still in awe of my root canal and crown. Just a tiny bit of muscle stiffness and that's the only discomfort. I'm thrilled. Now paying for it certainly hurt!!!

I started cleaning our hot tub today. Why? I have no idea why I've waited until its hot and windy, but I did. At least the background noise I'm listening to is the kiddo's behind us in their pool. They are having a wonderful time. I came in to fix lunch and time to go back outside. I won't complete this today, but I'm making great progress.

    Let's be safe everyone.

    Good afternoon

We received 0.8" of (needed) rain overnight. We have rain/storms in the forecast for the next 3 days. It's hot and humid, although not as hot as it was yesterday. We're not yet acclimated to the heat but will be in a few weeks, I guess.

Low 80s and humid here, occasional sprinkles. We expect an inch of rain Tuesday but not much until then. We had a nice pool party to celebrate the opening of the neighborhood pool. I bought a great panini (turkey, cheese, tomato, pesto) from the food truck and had a good time listening to the music and talking to neighbors new and old. I didn't swim, and probably won't in the middle of the day, but plan to use the pool in summer evenings after the sun drops.

The senior center is having a dance this evening, and I might go. I haven't danced in years and my knee is acting up, but I can probably slow dance a little.

Ron, I'm glad you're doing better.

Lorita, what a scumbag to steal your trash bin! Darwin is such a great neighbor!

HB, the Expo trip yesterday wore me out. First, I awoke at 3 am and couldn't get back to sleep. I had to meet the others at 6:30 am. The Metro and shuttle bus ride to the event took two hours. Then stood in line for about 20 minutes to check in. After the meals and presentations and workshops, the trip home took another two hours. I was exhausted when I returned home and I'm still exhausted. I don't see how your mom manages all of her appointments. Does she get exhausted?

Iris, hope you can get a good night's rest and feel better tomorrow.

The guy who took my trash barrel was thorough. He even took the cover- it was the cover from a mineral tub. Maybe he had a desperate need for a 50 gallon barrel.

See you all tomorrow. Good night..

Sandwichone - I'll see if I can find the Tony's that you and Ron recommend and then do a taste test. I'm sure I'd like both of them.

Iris - good to know about the subway system, I'm glad to hear it's so much improved. I'll confess - my only knowledge of the subway was seeing it filled with rushing lava during the the ridiculous (but entertaining) movie, Volcano. Such a bad movie! A volcano forms in the La Brea Tar Pits, and we're off to the races. Nice to see the Tar Pits get some recognition though.

I didn't know that about Colorado Blvd.!

HB - I'm with you, you can never have too much salsa.

I'm glad you're getting a break from appointments.

Judith - Yay for bagpipe progress!

eaglemom - I'm glad your root canal and crown have been pain-free. It sounds like you have a good doctor.

Carl - I hope you made it out dancing.

    Have a good night, Lorita.

Today was kind of nice, weather wise. Sun and clouds, 60s.

I got all of my Saturday work done, so I'm now free for the rest of the weekend. This afternoon I engaged in one of my guilty pleasures - I read a few blog posts on darkshadowseveryday (Dark Shadows Everyday). It's a pretty entertaining blog if you like Dark Shadows. He has one blog post per episode, and his descriptions are hilarious. Since I was a kid when I watched it, a lot of the subtexts went over my head, but now that he points them out, I totally remember those things happening. They got away with quite a lot on that show.

The actual end of historic Route 66 is the Santa Monica Pier. This pier now is the location of Pacific Park, an amusement park with a big Ferris Wheel. It is like a miniature Coney Island. There is no cost to enter. It's nice to stroll along the pier and people-watch or enjoy the rides and arcades.

The seniors that I was with yesterday at the Senior Transportation Expo are planning a trip later on the month to visit the LA County Fair. I'm looking forward to that if I can get my legs strong enough.

    Good night.

    good morning.
I too have not received notification of our group chat. I was in a bit of panic that I couldn’t find you all for a bit!!

Thank you everyone for your condolences for my Nanny’s passing. She’s always been skittish by nature, only coming to my hand for treats, never just for a pat or a hug. She wouldn’t come to the barn for feeding while I was away so Great Grandson was taking food and water down to the back pasture for her. When they counted babies, all were there and since they don’t know each Nanny by sight and name, they just assumed she was there among the others. And they are heartbroken “this happened on my watch”. And I am feeling so guilty for not being home. Lesson learned. I will change the exposure to potential pregnancy to November and August to ensure we are not traveling in birthing season.

Iris, I can’t be certain but I’m thinking postpartum sepsis.

Well, that’s probably more than anybody wanted to know about goats, but thank you for listening ❤️

Everyone stay safe in the heat and upcoming storms. Spring is here and I plan to dress the patio for pool season and switch out winter clothes to the spare room closet (no fun) during the rainy days.

Good morning. We're headed to 87F; we'll be hot and dunny until Wednesday when it'll turn cool and rainy for the Memorial Day weekend.

Lorita— I realize they're expensive to replace, but steal a trash bin? That's pretty low. That's not a thing here. In my community, we have private trash collection, so our rolling totes have a company ID and are numbered to track account status. The downsides apart from paying over $500/year for trash collection is that different neighbors use different companies so there always seem to be cans out at the curb and large noisy trucks trying to navigate the cul de sac. It's such a waste of fuel and we'd be able to negotiate a better price as community of 1500 homes versus individuals.

Judith— Low G? Intentionally? That's making progress. Are you enjoying it?

Eaglemom— I'm glad you're happy with your root canal/crown results. But yeah, I hear you on the cost of dental procedures. Eyewatering sums and for something that's just not much fun.

Beth— I might acclimate to the heat so long as there's a beach with palm trees and water the color of gin but never the humidity. Scrubbing the hot tub sounds miserable on a hot day. Here's hoping you're done soon and can enjoy it.

Carl— Early evening swims are the best. It's quieter and you can avoid slathering on the sunscreen. I do love a food truck.

Iris— The 2-hour travel time would be exhausting.

Mom doesn't seem to get exhausted unless she's pretty sick. She's the baby of a large family and thrives on attention. If I take her out, I drive so she gets door to door service. We're pretty well served medically here so most of her appointments (docs, lab, imaging and PT) are just 2 miles away from her house. Only the infectious disease and retinal specialist are about 40 minutes away. This makes stacking appointments easy. We can literally walk across the lobby to go from a pulmo appointment to a skin check at the derm.

The county fair sounds fun. We have a local grange fair in mid-August. Assuming it's not too hot, we enjoy it.

    ________________________________________________________________________

It felt good to get into the garden beds yesterday. I did manage to fill half a lawn bag with weeds and maple volunteers. So many "baby trees" seeded themselves in the beds and even along the neat edge along the driveway. The thistles are out of control as well. They're not too bad if you pull them on the smaller size, otherwise you need a good leather glove. The bad news is my Japanese willow seems to have a serious infestation of some sort of insect. It's probably going to have to be taken out which means I'll need to think about a replacement. I'll be picking something with less maintenance.

I hope all have a safe day.

    Good morning!

The country dance at the senior center was fun. I think I'll go next month and wear a cowboy hat like several of the other men.

Route 66 is an icon with car people. I don't know how many times I have given travelers directions to the original route of Route 66 through the center of Springfield. It is apparently a thing to drive the entire route from Chicago to the Santa Monica pier, preferably in an antique car.

Morning rash pickup here or at least the company I use is $360 annually or $30 a month. I was using a 50 gallon barrel, not from the company. Many people do that or just leave the filled bags on the ground. They charge $75 just to bring out a trash bin and so much per month. Also many burn their trash. My parents did that and.once the fire got out and.burned 50 big, round bales of hay.Stealing a trash.barrel is pretty low .I think.

JeriLynn, every time we.lost a.calf I blamed myself. These things usually can't be helped but we still take the.blame. I still remember losses.

Beth I love the picture. I see white cranes on our pond pretty often. Really upsets Stormy. Geese don't seem to.bother him though. Reminds me - I saw our Road Runner a day or so ago.

Windy and cloudy here today. Do wish we could get some rain. Hot enough I turned on the AC last night.

Carl, nice you enjoyed the dance last night. Did many people attend? Is it western and county music? Asked that because you mentioned cowboy hats.

Lorita, there were 68 people dancing. The organizers said there are usually more, but we were competing with another dance in Bolivar and with high school graduation parties. Yes, the music was country, with the band covering songs recorded by Lynn Anderson, George Strait, Merle Haggard and the like. The band call themselves the Honky Tonk Renovators. Next month, we will have a band called Charmin and the Country Four, and it will be country as well.

The "dress code" is country casual, which can be interpreted however you want. A lot of men wore cowboy boots, jeans, and cowboy hats, and the women wore country style dresses, boots and jeans, denim shorts with boots, or whatever. I just wore my usual white shirt and khakis because I don't own any cowboy clothes other than a cowboy hat I haven't worn in years.

No one cared what I wore as far as I can tell, and no one cared that I don't dance very well. One of the younger women dances professionally at Silver Dollar City, and one of the older men shuffled in on a walker and "danced" with a woman who appeared to be a great-granddaughter. Ages ranged from 55 to 95, with an exception made for the great-granddaughter who appeared to be about 20. The event wasn't like high school, where people compete with one another. There was no drinking or fighting either. I rather prefer it that way.

I strongly suspect that the man who persuaded me to go to the dance was asked to do so by his friend Barbara, who latched onto me as soon as I came in and danced with me several times. She also asked me if I would drive her home if she stayed until closing, because she doesn't drive and her ride was leaving early. Of course, being the gentleman that I am, I was glad to drive her home.

Carl you are certainly a gentleman. Of course you'd drive her home. Maybe she wanted to see your new vehicle?

jfkoc long distance caregiving is so difficult. It makes you want to pull out your hair. I always felt like one step forward and forty seven back! We're here to vent to if you want.

On that subject - my MIL. We all know she's a lot cray cray. (Being nice) She has had mental health issues for over 60 yrs, and she knows how to use them to her advantage. Long story short, my DH wants nothing to do with her (I don't blame him, she makes him nervous, she says untrue things, she says he's fine, etc) but she calls. I never answer and her messages are ugly about me, how I was raised, ugly about my parents, on and on. Also she's convinced herself I'm keeping DH from calling her. I never tell DH what she says, I just say your mom called would you like to call her? Nope. Today's message has me beside myself. "I'm changing my will. Is my son alive?" That was it. Now is usually don't respond, but to this i will. Clearly if DH wasn't alive I'd be out of the will. (I could care less, but if DH knew this he'd really be hurt, again by her.) I have no intention of waging a battle of words with her, I will tell her my husband is very much alive period. She's put me in & out of her will so many times it would make you head spin.

Sorry for the rant. One thing she's taught me is how not to treat people. Let's be safe everyone.

Carl, sounds like you had a boot-scootin'time. Wear jeans and that cow boy hat and get ready to take Barbara home again. She will expect it from a gentle!an like you.

Judith I know what you are going through. I kind of had to help with my sister's care.- finding a safe place for her, physically and emotionally - remember LMG who was trying to take advantage of her. If it would make you feel better, talk to us. I'm so glad we have this safe place and friends who want to help when we need it or when we feel down and need to talk.

Eagle, so sorry you are dealing with this. Your MIL sounds like a person no one could get along with. No.way to deal with that except as little communication as possible which you are doing. Does she live nearby?.

If has been hot here today and windy Looks like we may have stormy weather this week. Hope everyone has a good night.

A reminder to those telling us about life in different places, including places with goats. I (and others, as far as I can tell) love reading those details! No need to apologize for oversharing. I think in our country we need to spend focused energy understanding the lives of others with different experiences.

JeriLynn - I'm with Sandwichone - I've never lived in the country, and I don't know anything about living on a farm or any place with goats and cows. This thread, wonderful in many ways, is great in that now I have a window into what that's like. I love hearing about cows and goats, and I really am sorry about the loss of one of your nannies.

Beth - great photo of the heron! I'd never seen one until we started visiting Charleston. I usually see them most trips.

Carl - wow, that's a lot of people! It sounds like it was a lot of fun.

Judith - I'm sorry about your sister and helping long distance is hard. I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

eaglemom - Ugh. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. That is really, really unpleasant.

Lorita - I've had to care for others while living in a different state. I looked after my dad and my sister for years. It's hard, but you do what you have to do. I always felt like that character from the Game of Thrones who had his "little birds everywhere". That was me, little birds everywhere.

We're heading into the time of year that always fools me. It's 8:30pm and it' only now starting to be dark. By mid-June the sun won't set until around 9:15pm or so. I really do like the long days.

JeriLynn, how do you dress your patio for pool season?

Where I live the city wants us to have three trash options: regular trash, recyclables and food waste. My condo refuses to put out dumpsters for the recyclables. I had been using the common recyclables dumpster in the alley, but for months they have been locked. I suspect people were putting trash into the recyclables dumpster. So now I take my empty washed aluminum cat food cans down to the trash company for recycling. Plastics and cardboard I have begun to throw in with the trash. I read in the newspaper that it costs cities more to recycle plastic than to put plastic into landfill.

Here, the city wants to encourage vermicomposting, and they will supply free worms. I don't have space for worms. If I had the space I would be interested.

Carl, I'm so glad the dance was a success!

Iris, I compost. It's not worm composting, however, the worms find their way from the ground into the compost and help in the decomposition. I have 2 compost bins at present. One contains primarily leaves which will decompose into "leaf mold," and the other contains weeds without seeds, fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, grass clippings, cardboard, shredded paper and leaves.

Morning , cloudy, windy and very muggy. I have both air conditioners going so that will help, I hope. Stormy weather predicted for tonight and tomorrow. It was in mid 70s this morning.

Good luck at the casino,, Ron. There's one in the town closest to me but I have never been in it. Looks busy all the time. I like the names of some of them such as River Wind and Indigo Sky.

Our trash company returned my call this morning. She said our collector usually runs between 5 and 6:30 am so I.hope the barrel Darwin gave me works out without tearing the sacks. I'll try to bend the sharp edges before next week. Back later.
