Hi, I am looking for support on finding in home care for my dad once or twice a week and how to navigate it financially. He is not on Medicare and early onset. My parents also most likely would not qualify for free services but cannot afford most private pay places. I am trying to find something in the middle near bucks county Pa. Thank you

Welcome. You might try calling your local commission on aging. They are aware of a lot of great local resources and programs. I would also recommend they talk with an elder law attorney. Medicaid qualifications are complicated and they will really know what can be done. It gets even more complex when the person with dementia has a spouse. Hi and welcome. I am sorry for your reason to be here but pleased you found this place.

If your parents haven't seen an elder law attorney to start the process of qualifying for Medicare early. and SS disability as well as discussing Medicaid options for later, this would be a great first step. The lawyer should be familiar with what is available in terms of programs in the area.

I've not run across and "free" services offering in-home supervision in the county. Hourly agency rates were over $30/hour here 8 years ago. And agencies require a minimum 15 hour week. You might find a daycare program that allows 1-2x a week most reasonably priced.

I would second the elder care attorney or even just calling the Alzheimer’s association hotline (on this website). I called it like 4 times when I was trying to find my mom care and even when they didn’t have specific referrals they were super helpful. It’s staffed by trained professionals not volunteers so you will definitely get real answers. Hopefully you can find some help - I’m sure you will. Keep asking for it and reaching out. let us know what you find out.
