Just need to talk to my friends (223)

Good afternoon.
HB, in the past I was advised to use turmeric for pain. But I have one new medication now, so I will check for interactions. I'm glad your mom and her SIL had a good reconnection after all these years. It can be nice to reconnect with someone from your past.
There are so many eye problems! Carl, I hope you get a good report about your eyes.
We are expecting Hurricane Rachel over the weekend, with heavy rain, flooding and high surf affecting beach-side homes. Right now the sky is clear and the temperature is mild with no humidity. I have to get my errands done today because I don't want to be out in the rain.

Thanks, Iris, my eye is improving slowly. I'm to return in 4 months to see if that continues or if I should repeat the laser surgery. One poor woman in the waiting room told me she has macular degeneration and gets injections every 10 days. Ugh!

Glad your eye is important going Carl, Darwin gets an eye injection in one eye every few weeks. He's funny, always days be feels like hitting the doctor. Before his move he had to travel a hundred miles - now he is closer.
Did a load of laundry today and now the green light won't go off and machine won't start. A tech will.come Monday. I have never cared for this washer, a Maytag purchased in 2011 so.guess it has been ok.
Tomorrow is The Red River Rivalry. Texas has beaten Oklahoma the last two or three years. Guess I-35 will be busy tomorrow. They used to call it the Red River Shootout- I like that better.
Iris, first an earthquake and now a hurricane. You need a rest from all this.

Noticed today that my ophthalmologist office is across the street from Immaculate Conception School, known locally as "IC." I think across from Eye See is a good location.🤓
The Missouri State University alumni magazine came today, containing a story about an alum who is executive director of Ozarks Food Harvest. He was teaching business communications and suggested his students interview for jobs they didn't want so they could practice without stress. He would do the same and they would compare experiences. He interviewed at OFH and was amazed to learn that one adult in five and one child in four in the Ozarks experiences food insecurity. This was 28 years ago; he left teaching and hasn't looked back.

Iris - My legal specialty has always been privacy law, but mostly as relates to tech, and online. I haven't really dealt with the privacy torts (invasion of privacy, putting someone in a false light, etc.). The flip side of privacy is the First Amendment, so I've done a lot of First Amendment stuff too, also online related.
I'm sorry about your cough. I didn't know that about GE reflux.
I wouldn't get out of bed for a 3.2 earthquake either! 😄
Carl - My dad took turmeric for his arthritis too, and he said it really helped him. For a 90 year old guy he didn't really take a lot of medications, and the turmeric didn't seem to interfere with anything.
I like the idea of interviewing for jobs you don't care about to get practice. I'd have liked that advice when I was first starting out.
HB - A bleeding time test?? I have no idea what that is, but it sounds medieval.
We're planning on getting our flu shots next week, now that we're home.
Lorita - That must have been fun seeing your old school friend.
eaglemom - I'm glad there's been some improvement with your eyes. I hope it continues in the right direction.
We got back from Charleston last night. Things are okay over there. My MIL looks good, and is eating well. She's getting more forgetful, but that's the worst so far.
The weather there was fantastic! Sunny, high 70s-low 80s. I wanted to just sit outside and bask in the sun. I didn't, of course. Now we're back home, and it's high 50s and rain. Ahh, fall in the PNW. The trees are starting to turn pretty colors.

The weather is turning cooler. I couldn't sit on my balcony, it was too chilly.
Lorita, the earthquake was small; I live inland so I'm not affected by high surf or flooding. Actually, hurricanes are rare in SoCal, they are more prevalent off the coast of Mexico.
Good night.

GG…I have been fascinated about the Sussex Situation…from a legal standpoint. I think it may be the biggest kerfuffle since Ann Boleyn/Henry/Pope.

Interesting situation…..last 1/2 discusses the power of the monarchy over Archie and Lilibet

Good morning.
The Sussex Situation = a live soap opera—who did what to whom?—what happens next? BTW, I read that he was about to be deported for falsifying his visa.

What is the Sussex Situation? Pretty day. Gave Billy his medicine and nothing else except giving Stormy his pain medicine and feeding cats.
I felt tired yesterday and still do. Wondering if my EBV is back. Surely hope not. My eye feels pretty good today so.guess the Erythromycin is working.
Iris, I have always wondered how they come up with names for medicine - such odd names.
The earthquake in Panama, 7.7, wss awful Haven't seen any news this morning so wonder about aftershocks.

Ok I'm frustrated. I've written out something twice only to have it vanish. Gurr

Judith, I don't know if this is true or not. If you look at YouTube, there are all kinds of stories about Harry and Meghan, including that the two children were born by surrogacy and that her pregnancies were faked. Again, I don't know what to believe but there is nothing in the mainstream media about the Sussexes losing their children. Time will tell, I guess.
0 -
What I "think"…Harry lied on his visa…a surrogate was used…Megan is older than she claims…the monarchy can claim guardianship. The laws re succession are interesting.
0 -
Boomer!! Sooner!! Sooners won over the Longhorns 27 to 24 in a last second field goal. Good second half for OU. Sorry, Eagle. Is the Texas QB, Arch Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning?
I have watched too much TV today so think I will go to bed early. You all have a good night.
1 -
Hmm, I haven't really thought about Harry and Meghan much (or the rest of the family, for that matter). I do remember that Harry talked about doing various drugs (cocaine, mushrooms, etc.) and I think he didn't mention that on his visa application. If he didn't, then there's the problem.
It's hard to talk about Meghan because there's so much racism, and/or "unconscious bias" within the royal family and the people who work for them. Remember when at least one member of the royal family feared that Archie's complexion was going to be dark? And Meghan is a strong woman from the west coast. Life as a royal is so very different than life in California… I can imagine there could be a clash.
I read the wikipedia page on Harry and Meghan's chat with Oprah, and it all does seem pretty messy.
Judith - "kerfuffle" is putting it mildly. 🙂 I'm glad I'm not related to any of them!
eaglemom - And there seems to be a small table in your post too. Weird. I've had stuff like that happen to me too.
It was kind of chilly today, it never got out of the 50s, with some morning drizzle. We ended up getting a bit of sun in the afternoon, but it never got warm.

Good morning all. It's gloomy and damp this morning. We've got 24 hours of rain forecasted which is good for weed-pulling later this week but just kind of yucky.
I am glad I did the lawn yesterday— collected downed branches (so many branches), edged and mowed. DH looked out when I was done and remarked how much better it looks when I do it instead of DS. Even DS agreed when he got home from work. Nice try guys.
Carl— I love that story from your alumni magazine. My godchild works for a similar organization here— Philabundance. She fell into the position during Covid when all the theaters closed— I don't think she'll ever use that $$$ musical theater degree her parents funded but they're both proud.
Gothic G— I'm sorry you didn't get to bask in the South Carolina sunshine. They have such lovely weather this time of year. My BIL has left Charleston for Dirty Myrtle and his daughter has finally figured out staging her visiting in spring and fall instead of the summer. She's there this week. BIL had a procedure on his cervical spine during which he had a heart attack which earned him a couple extra inpatient days. He's home now and his DW is having cataract surgery. Sounds like a great time for the kids to plan a vacation!
Lorita— Sounds like you're quite chuffed at the outcome of that game! Congratulations!
Eaglemom— The disappearing posts used to happen to me a lot before they migrated over to the newer iteration of the forum. I'm sorry that happened; it's so frustrating.
Ah, the British Royal Family. Perhaps the world's longest running soap opera. The Sussex Side Show is more of the same but one can't dismiss the overt racism in their tabloid press. Sure, Camilla and Catherine endured periods of vitriol— Camilla was the "other woman" for decades and "Waity Katie" (Butter London had a nail polish color named for her and a special edition "No More Waity Katie in celebration of the marriage) was mostly the victim of classism for years. Even Catherine's mom was derided with "doors to manual" (she'd been a flight attendant) and excoriated for chewing nicotine gum in public to quit smoking. But it's different for Megs because of the racism of the press and the community.
As a veteran royal watcher, my take is that Meghan's American sensibilities served to agitate her somewhat dimwitted husband. He'd grown up under the rules of primogeniture and probably had never questioned the material disparity between someone born a spare and a future sovereign. I suspect she signed on expecting a more lavish lifestyle than the reality.
Another piece is that she either misunderstands or misrepresents certain aspects publicly which results in lies. Two from the infamous Oprah interview include— "Archie's complexion being the basis for princehood" (only grandsons of a reigning monarch and the eldest son of the eldest son are typically given the title of prince) His title came with the accession of his grandfather to the throne. And then there's the one about the Archbishop of Canterbury marrying them privately in the garden a few days before the big spectacle. That can't happen and it put the head of the CoE in a tricky spot. Him? He probably did lie on his visa application; The Heritage Foundation has been chomping at the bit around this for years now.
Judith— That clip isn't a particularly respected source. Many of the more mainstream media have their own royal news channels on You Tube if you're interested. The Daily Mail offers "Palace Confidential"; their Diary Editor often "knows things" before others and their Royal Editor seems to probably be closest to the king and queen of all the writers. Roya Nikkhah is Royal Editor at The Times and is rumored to be something of an unofficial mouthpiece for the palace. The Telegraph's Daily Tea sometimes covers the royal beat. People Magazine is seen to be a mouthpiece for the Sussexes.
I've read the rumors about surrogacy and pregnancies faked with "moon bumps". Some of the videos and stills supporting that idea are pretty convincing. One of the strongest voices behind that is Lady Colin Campbell who also has a You Tube channel. She's really out there but kind of fun in small doses. Her backstory is probably more interesting, and sad, than anything she reports on.
Beth— Since you're the book person and mentioned all the Sussex rumors, the Lady Colin Campbell autobiography, A Life Worth Living, might interest you. My favorite royal adjacent author is Anne Glenconner. Lady in Waiting and Whatever Next? were worth a read although, like Lady C's, not always an easy read.

Lazy day here today. I took mom out for her COVID shot. I'm kind of bummed. They had Novavax which is a shorter reaction for me. My smaller CVS didn't get any. She was off her O2 when I picked her up. Her excuse this time? "I was doing an experiment". I am sick to the teeth of this nonsense. I re-explained the consequences of hypoxia and told her it was unfair for waste her doctor's time as well as mine if she isn't going to be compliant.
We had a nice dinner out just the 3 of us. We've kind of gotten stuck in a rut and we'd read about a new place and gave it a try. Aside from their Pepsi beverage service, it was amazing. DS got a pizza with cup pepperoni, DH ordered the cheese and meat board instead of a meal and I got Nonna's Bolognaise with a meatball as big as a cat's head. So good. Lunch today I think.
DS came home with yet another laundry list of things he needs for school. A lab coat, bandage scissors, hemostat and a different watch. Seems the one DH gave him isn't great, the second hand goes back before advancing and his instructor told him he needs a different one. Clinicals start on the 19th.
I hope all have a safe and pleasant day.

Afternoon, all of the above things are lost on me - knew nothing about any of it. Hard enough for me to try to keep up with things around here.
Gave the last of the Aeromycin I had to Billy this morning. Maybe Jon can drop some.off in the morning when he feeds the bulls. I found another bottle of pain meds for Stormy. I break the.big tablet in quarters and hide them in powdered donuts.
Patsy asked me something a few years ago that I have been thinking about. So, I will ask you all - are you finding it harder to.open things now? I do- couldn't do without my QVC bottle opener. I even find it hard to open the Moist 'n Meaty packets for Stormy. Even getting the cover under the lid of OJ requires a knife. Guess it's loss of hand strength- isn't getting old and weak fun?
Going to be in the.low 90s today but cooler and rain by Thursday. Carl, did you say you got rain from the hurricane? Iris, your hurricane looks like it really dumped a lot.of rain. Maybe you needed it, but not that much.

HB, thanks for the book and YouTube recommendations! There are quite a few royal YouTube channels but some seem phony or outright untrue to me - especially when they give a disclaimer that they are for "entertainment purposes only."
Beautiful last few days here! Warm and sunny. I've been working on the garden. Saw a praying mantis in the garden today. Still seeing a few butterflies. The zinnias are so pretty still. I love having a little bouquet of them in my kitchen.

No rain here yet, but we expect rain Tuesday night through Thursday, high in the 60s Friday and Saturday. It's 90 and sunny with a 15 mph breeze today, beautiful late summer weather even if it is autumn.
Beth, I stopped my car yesterday and found a praying mantis sitting on the front fender. They must have really good grip!
About the royal family, it seems to me that "for entertainment purposes only" is not a bad way to describe them. Poor Queen Elizabeth. She tried so hard to make her family respectable, but they'd be on Jerry Springer if they lived in trailers instead of palaces.

Carl, you're killing me over here (I'm laughing). I very much agree with you about the Jerry Springer show. I can just picture Harry and William getting into a verbal fight that devolves into a fist fight, with much yelling and screaming from whoever else from the family is on the panel.
HB - I'd forgotten all about "Waity Katie." Years ago, a bunch of us, including a friend-of-a-friend visiting from Leeds, were waiting in line for a movie. The friend from Leeds referenced "Waity." She didn't even call her "Waity Katie", just "Waity."
About Meghan faking her pregnancies — I admit, I'm not up on all of that, but my first thought on hearing about it is that it's more racism in action.
I don't view William or Harry as the sharpest tools in the royal shed, but I also wonder how the trauma of losing their mom at such young ages (and under those circumstances), continues to play out in their lives.
Over here at my end of the porch, there's some weak sun and 60 degree weather. I'm already back to wearing sweaters and fuzzy socks. I also pulled out the fleece-lined leggings I got last year from Black Milk.
I got to sleep late this morning (I happily slept until 11:00am!), now I feel well-rested and ready for the week.

Lorita that was quite the football game. Don't worry about it, I'm not a UT fan, frankly I'm about as far from a UT fan as possibly!!! We're loyal to our alma mater, but yesterday they seemed to have forgotten how to play football.
Hoping this goes through. Let's be safe everyone.

Who cares a rat's butt about the royals. At least William and Harry served in the military.
0 -
GG, I ordered the Goth lasagna for lunch today. It turned out to be a 7-layer chocolate cake! 🍰
While we're talking about royals, let's not forget Duchess Fergie being photographed topless in the stables with an army officer who was supposedly her bodyguard, or Harry's uncle going on TV to say he stayed at the Epstein mansion when visiting New York because it was "convenient." Royals are rednecks with money and titles. They live in old country houses, don't have jobs, and marry their cousins. LOL
Like the king, I am too old to get in much trouble. I went to church, lunched with my son, niece, and sister in law, and enjoyed a pleasant summery afternoon.
1 -
Let me reiterate, my interest basically lies in British law…specifically what applies to the monarchy. That said, I find the soap opera facinating.

Beth, I love zinnias. They are always so pretty in the fall. Mother always had two long rows of flowers in the garden so we always had fresh flowers in the house. In our hot summers zinnias, cosmos and marigolds do best. She also had sweet peas in a ring daddy made. I really don't have a place for flowers except in the big containers where I have caladiums and in the bathtub.
Eagle, Texas dropped from #1 to #7 because of their loss to Okla.
Took down the trash, checked out Darwin's.House and looked at the progress on the solar farm. Made me ill to see it. Also saw my Road Runner in the driveway. I was afraid he died in the water tank. He just laid there when I turned it over. It was really.hot and the black rubber tank was empty so maybe he got too hot, then revived when he.got out of the tank.
You all sleep tight. Good night.

Many years ago I waited for several hours outside a church to get a viewing of Fergie and her hubby the former prince, Andrew. I liked Princess Diana and Fergie was the closest substitute for me. When she went on Weight Watchers, I did too, although not for long. I also stood outside Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard.
I think in these modern times, following the goings-on of the British monarchy et Al is a way of stimulating their economy, the way watching spectator sports is for us. They don't do anything but attend charity events and commemorate their holidays and wear fashion for the public to copy. Diana was a lovely fashion icon, I watched everything about her. None of the others can touch her. She was a lovely person altogether.
On another note, this is the 50th anniversary of the movie Carrie. Hermosa Beach Community Center was the setting for Pier Avenue Junior High School. Hermosa Beach hosted an anniversary screening of the movie, with self-guided tours of important shooting sites. They also held a 1970's themed prom. Here is one picture of a fan.
Check out this image
I'm disappointed. I set my plants outside so they could soak up rainwater, but there was no rain overnight. But apparently there was high surf.

I admired Diana even more after the divorce, because she touched and hugged HIV/AIDS patients in yhe early days of the disease, and because she spoke out against IEDs and land mines.

Good morning,
Sorry I haven’t written lately, still back and forth with Cardiologist. Blood pressure was high so was put on hydrazine and spironolactone along with my atenolol. Blood pressure and heart rate high so hydrazine increased from 25mg to 50mg. Blood pressure better but ended up in ER with rapid heart rate. Was taken off the two and put on diltizem, stay on my atenolol and now blood pressure is high again , but heart rate is better. 😠
I will try and catch up with my front porch friends, but right now I’m exhausted all the time.
Ron
