Brain donation / autopsy

My dad is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s. My siblings and I would like to get an autopsy done to learn more about his specific diagnosis.

The Brain Donor Project rejected us. Have others gotten private autopsies? We’ve been quoted 4000$ for a private autopsy which seems worth it for closure/to see if there is a higher likelihood that west inherit the disease.

Anyone have experience with private autopsies or other routes to get a diagnosis after death? Thank you!

In addition to whatever responses you receive now, I suggest that you do a search for brain donation, because there have been several threads in the past.

If you're concerned about heritability, I'd get a referral to a genetic counselor and go from there. Blood tests might be sufficient to determine answers to your question for a lot less.
