Morning, bright and sunny here. It's 40 degrees but no wind, yet. HB, just talked with our county election board. She says mail in and absentee ballots are the same thing in Okla. If a person iś incapacitated the ballot requires signatures of two people as witnesses. If not, it has to be notarized.
learn to cook with gas, too. Love the picture of the full moon and of the pond at sunrise. We have a big pond east of our house, pretty close, so I see sunrises and full moons rising reflected in it. Can't see the sunsets from the house because of trees.
Still trying to get clothes sorted out. Sandy, you say I'm always looking for something and guess I am. Had a pair of house shoes sitting under a chair across from the bed all summer. Now they're gone. Same for a pair of pants, still in their wrapper that have been in a drawer this year. Thought I might wear them around the house but can't find them. They'll show up sometime.
Beth, I have always cooked with electric so think I would have to learn to if us good. Would like to walk in the pasture instead not on the gravel road butcook with gas, too. Glad you're enjoying your new home..
Mint, I use a light weight quilt all year and in winter put on a fluffy throw. Just thought would like a blanket. The slick ones slide around but guess I could pin the edges to the quilt.
Going to try to take the GPs for a walk every day. Will do all of us good. Would like to walk in the pasture but the girls get very curious of the GPs if they're close..
Drought moniter just came out and it is getting worse daily. We need rain so badly. The cooler weather is nice but will be back in mid 80s next week. The cooler nights are getting rid of the grasshoppers!!
Back later.

Good morning
David im so sorry. Prayers for you and your dear wife. Can you put weight on your leg or do you have to be nonweight bearing for awhile?

Good morning. It's another crisp fall day here. The leaves are just about at their peaks. My back yard is a mix of red, orange and yellow at the moment. No ponds here, though. My old house was right on a creek with a hill opposite that was gorgeous this time of year. I miss that view, but not the flooding.
David— I am sorry to hear about your ankle. Yikes! I hope it heals quickly and uneventfully.
Beth— Mom's range is a Kitchen Aid. It is a very nice appliance, but I sometimes hit buttons when leaning over it. And the belt loops/pockets on my pants sometimes catch on the handle to the oven.
I wonder if that was COVID you had. The loss of sense of smell is less common than it was but it's still a thing for some people. I hope it returns soon. When I caught this never-ending cold, I tested for COVID and flu and was negative. They tested mom for those plus RSV on admission and they were all negative too.
Mint— I have a friend who eschews pork products but cooks very Southern. He uses smoke turkey in his collards and beans. Pretty tasty.
Lorita— It's dry here, too. Yesterday I detoured from the hospital to pick up a burrito bowl for DS and crossed the bridge over a flood control reservoir that's almost dry. Normally, it's popular for small-boat sailing, kayaking, and birding but it's mostly dried and cracked earth.

Daily mom update.
Day 6. She was a little better yesterday, and they've tweaked her meds a bit reducing her steroids. Some nursing students gave her a proper bed-bath yesterday and even got her up in a chair for 15 minutes. It completely exhausted her. Her mood was good. Her roommate has been transported to hospital in the city where she receives her cancer treatment. I hope they can leave the bed empty for a bit as mom's reluctant to cough and disturb anyone. And she has to cough to clear her lungs to be discharged. I visited for 90 minutes and left her watching a documentary on Princess Alice of Greece on YouTube when I had to leave.
They're talking discharge in a couple of days. Her blood cultures still aren't back and her other blood tests look worse. The BUN/Creatine Ratio is high and increasing but it's not clear if it's a function of steroids or worsening CHF. I expect that discharge follow-up will include PCP, Pulmo and Cardiology. I'm pushing for a short rehab stay— I don't see a rapid recovery to anything near her baseline with home health. Any pro tips for making that happen?
She's got an appointment next week for psychiatry; we may need to reschedule (doc rescheduled it 6 weeks already) or move to Zoom. Mom hates Zoom. And another post-op appointment the week after and an eye injection after that. I better gas up the car.

HB, ask the Care Manager to submit your Mom to the Rehab facilities of your choice. Insist she is unable to manage alone at home and Rehab will be the best option to return her to Independence at home. Polite but FIRM!!! Rehab will allow you to determine her best capabilities regarding her "home" situation. Just rinse and repeat. And also say the same thing to the Hospitalist or whoever is in control of her discharge.
Hoping for the best for you… jeri lynn

David, I fell on the ice this past January and sprained my ankle. Still bothers me from time to time. Woke up about 3 this morning with intense left sided pain. It was better by 8 but went to my doctor anyway. Told me to drink lots of water and take Senokot. Guess I'll eat some kraut, too.
Went to WM ( don't want to do that again, too big and busy). Did get some chocolate marbled brioche which is delicious. Got some more houseshoes and a huge pot of mums, yellow and bronze. Got home and discovered they charged the original price on mums so will return some tennis shoes next week and take care of that.
Asked my doctor about the RSV shot. He said since I'm in good health, don't smoke and not around little kids would not need it. Covid, said to use my own judgment. He can't take it, makes him really ill.
Glad to be home. Had to manhandle the big gate close to the house going and coming. Off the bottom hinge and I had left the girls in to graze.

I broke my ankle and am now in a boot and will now see orthopedic dr to see what he wants to do. I will let you know what's up

All shots done except Flu. I will do that next week.
Pharmacist says the Shingles and RSV are one time. Whew…one last thing to keep up with. They were out of Magnesium Glycinate so will order from Amazon.
David…falls can be nasty. By the way, I am impressed with the color coordination of the boot, socks and pants…lol

Well, the kitchen is DONE! lol. Supper is molasses and garlic pork tenderloin with potatoes, carrots, onions; squash dressing, green beans, rolls and a relish tray.
DH took the billys to the sale and came home with 4 beautiful nanny goats. I'll get a picture tomorrow. They are Savanah/Kinko/Nubian girls. They're already getting to know the other younger girls and eating crackers from my hand. LOL.

You can thank my wife for me being color coordinated.

HB sorry your mom is still struggling.
Thanks for info on turkey tails. Looks like you use wherever you would use a ham hock. I don’t eschew pork but rarely use it. Hope I like them for a little variety. Made my pintos yesterday without any seasoning. Put them over my cornbread and topped with an Ohio made salsa. It was good and had air fried potatoes with it. I did not soak them and cooked in crockpot. Will be my go to method from now on. I was s healthy meal besides being tasty,1 -
PINTO BEAN RECIPE FROM BIG jOE'S HARDWARE, SANTA FE;
PUT BEANS IN A POT…COVER WITH BOILING WATER.
NEXT MORNING RINSE…DUMP INTO CROCK POT….ADD CHICKEN BROTH AND WATER TO 2 INCHES OVER BEANS….COOK ON LOW OVERNIGHT. REPEAT IN ONE WEEK.
LORITA… EAT SOME RAW CARROTS

Mint, that's how I cook beans, in crockpot. But, the next time I cook butter beans I I'm going to soak them so the skins will be sifter. I never put seasoning in my beans, except some salt at the end. I used to like to mix mayonnaise in my beans when eating them.
Turkey tails! Every time Charles' mother would visit she wanted turkey tails. We also used to cook them for our Queensland Heelers. They loved them.
JeriLynn, four nanny goats. Are they babies. Or grown? I think they are so cute and fun to watch the babies. Probably wouldn't last here because of coyotes. Our neighbor tried raising sheep.but coyotes got the lambs. You all should heard them.last night when they came out to hunt. Hardly ever see a rabbit anymore. Judith, raw carrots? Told my doctor I was going to have to beat kraut. He said cabbage works for him. Is Magnesium Glycinate better than the regular kind?

Both my PCPs and Dick's cardio said Glycinate. YOu can google to read why. I know it is the one best absorbed. Fringe benefit, it help with sleep.
New season of Lincoln Lawyer starts…yippee!

Lorita i saw where people liked mayonnaise on their pintos. I had never heard of it. We use to eat tobasco or mustard on ours. Always ate onion with it too.

I haven't had mayo on mine in years but I do like salsa on them. Or crumble cornbread in them. with cornbread and onion. I need to start calcium again and magnesium and vit.C for the winter. Just hate to swallow all those pills.

There are a hundred ways to eat beans, and they're all good. Mom's recipe: One can seasoned black beans, one small tomato. Chop up the tomato, mix with the beans and just enough mayo to make it stick together. Yum!

Good morning
Welcome to the porch Carl. Yes there are many ways to eat many types of beans.

Good morning. I can't believe it's Saturday already. DS works a long day today, so I'll fix his lunch as a treat. Poor "kid" foraged for himself most of the week in addition to his cat care duties.
Judith— It's crazy how many vaccines there are for grownups these days. I finally have DH and myself caught up. He needed RSV and Tdap in addition to flu and COVID. DS needs to get the COVID jab; he randomly did flu when he picked up a prescription.
JeriLynn— Congratulations on your new goats. I hope they keep you entertained.
Your menus sound so good— so many side dishes. Frankly, I'm all about the sides.
It's funny you mention a relish tray. DH and I were just talking about these as a thing back-in-the-day at restaurants and holiday dinners. In fact, DH jokes that our favorite niece's cooking is so weird that she should only ever be entrusted with the relish tray for family dinners. LOL, I guess that one step up from being in charge or paper plates or bags of ice. FTR, we're a small family, so we break out the nice china, silver and crystal for the sake of my mom. My niece is that rare millennial who loves fine china and such. As a kid I gifted her a single piece of sterling flatware for her birthday/Christmas so she had 4 place settings by the time she graduated high school. And she picked my pattern, so she'll get 8 more when I shuffle off this mortal coil.
Hi Carl. Nice to see you here on the porch.
Mint— I'm glad you got all the bulbs planted. DS and I failed miserably last fall. I wonder if they'd still bloom.
So many ways to prepare beans. But I don't think anything can beat Ron's Red Beans and Rice. It's so good.

Today will be Day 7 in the hospital for mom.
She seemed a bit better yesterday and was tolerating sitting up for several hours. She'd had a period overnight during which she felt she couldn't breathe and thought she was dying, so they put her back on the higher doses of meds. I was finally able to find her progress notes online. They've redefined the diagnosis as a COPD exacerbation brought on by pneumonia. They're still mentioning "home health" with a note that I want subacute rehab in the discharge coordinator's notes.
Today is not starting out well. I spilled an entire mug of tea in the microwave/stovetop, washed and dried my "missing" Chapstick ruining 2 of DS's tees and 3 pair of boxer briefs (treating with Dawn as we speak and DS is having car trouble necessitating a ride to and from work (8 miles) today and tomorrow and then rides to his classes tomorrow which are on 2 different campuses including the southern one which is a miserable 11 mile commute away. DH feels like he's coming down with something. He did drive DS this morning. Fun times here.

In the middle of the night I woke up not feeling well. I googled and yep..reaction to Covid shot. They said it was a good thing so I took 2 Tylenol, watched a little TV and went back to sleep.
Welcome Carl!
I want a goat….
1 -
Love the goat pictures, JeriLynn. Sounds like you name all of them like I did with the girls. Wish I had a couple of baby goats, too, Judith.
Judith, when did you get your covid shot and how are you this morning? I will have to go to town to get my ballot notarized so may get my flu shot then. Covid shots at our health dept. Won't be available until mid November.
