M1, my heart breaks for you and for her. These things happen so quickly, it barely gives us time to adjust. Praying she is in no pain and for peace for you, my friend.

I'm so sorry to hear it will likely end this way. Our wish for our loved ones is that they pass painlessly in their sleep - and I hope her pain is well controlled and she just slips away. I will be praying for both of you in the coming days. Hugs to you.

you can’t imagine what comfort your words bring me on this vigil. It won’t be long, they are keeping her comfortable and don’t think she will wake up at all. I’m grateful we’ve said our goodbyes and beyond grateful for her, period-I truly have been blessed to have her in my life.
If there’s a learning point here, let me say that it was absolutely the right decision to push for inpatient hospice-their ability to manage pain is miles away better than anything available at home or MC, and with additional comfort measures like placing a Foley catheter so that she doesn’t have to be moved or changed. Just a point to consider that might help someone else in a similar circumstance. Falls are such a traumatic way to go out.

You think about this day and think that you are prepared but when that day arrives it is a horrible time. I hope she has a peaceful transition and I wish you peace and strength.

She died in her sleep at 5 am this morning. A blessing; she never woke up once they got her sedated and comfortable, and she didn't linger. It's a beautiful fall day here. I took the truck to town, got her things from her MC room so that's all done, and now I am home with my dog on this beautiful farm that is her legacy. The suffering is over for her, thank goodness, tough cookie that she was who dealt with chronic pain most of her adult life.
I am so, so grateful for all the thoughts and prayers and support that you all have offered. I am grateful that she chose me to share life with, and I am grateful for the family and friends that surround us now. I am grateful now that I will get to bring her home, which is what she really wanted. For us the love will go on, and that makes us so fortunate. I am glad this day has finally arrived.
