This was posted by a neighbor. Can you imagine being worried about retaliation for speaking about Alzheimer’s research?

It's easy to imagine if you've read "1984"

no research has been cut. They are cutting non research positions. Not to worry. My daughter works at a non profit and I researched it for her. We will actually have more money for research. Old grants remain in place. New pending grants were paused temporarily for review. One director at the NIH was fired last year by President Biden due to fraud after an 8 year investigation.

Thanks for that perspective. But my concern is, a major academic institution warned a person with Alzheimer’s to be careful talking about research funding cuts because they are concerned about retaliation from the highest office in the land.

The former president of Costa Rica, a Nobel Prize winner, just had his visa revoked for criticizing you know who.

So someone told someone not to talk about something because there might be cuts? Until I have evidence of actual cuts I’m not worried I looked at the NIH website and fully researched this subject because of my daughter’s job and my late husband’s and my sister’s dementia.

I'm sorry, but your take on this is naive. Think of it like this: If a hospital cuts all of the non-medical staff, do you really think that doctors would be able to do more work? No, they'd be spending all of their time writing up notes and ordering supplies instead of seeing patients.

I find it very sad that some would post nonsensical statements such as "no research has been cut" at a website sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association. For anybody interested in the the real story, perhaps a good place to start would be the "News" section of the Alzheimer's Association website. Here is a link to their April 1, 2025 posting titled "Alzheimer's Association Sounding the Alarm Over the Threat of Elimination of Alzheimer's Programs at HHS, CDC."

The general reports in the news media indicate that NIH staffing was recently reduced by about 1,200, including scientists, support staff, and other officials.

I appreciate your optimism. Now is certainly not the time to cut back on funding for Alzheimer’s research.

I work at an institution where Alzheimer’s research is being conducted. Or it was. Our federal grants are being “paused,” with stop-work orders going out to the principal investigators.
