Happy Birthday, Marie. Hope it was a good one.

Heavy thunderstorms headed our way. We can hear thunder and Sheena is scared.. Normally the girls would be in the barn. Hope Billy is. You all have a good nights sleep. See you tomorrow.

Sure is dark out there! The thunder woke me, an hour later the lightning took out the electricity and there is nothing but lightning, light reflected by the clouds from miles away where people have electricity, and solar lights lining some of the neighbors' walkways. My power is on because I have a generator, but I will not be able to dry the clothes I washed until the electricity comes back on.
Saw a huge tree uprooted today, missed a house by about a foot. The trunk was at least 3' in diameter, so they dodged a bullet. Their little house would have been crushed like a strawberry basket.
DW brought home some Easter candy from the party at day care today, so I am fully chocolated up. We are saving the chocolate rabbit for Sunday.
The thunder has abated so I will try to sleep before the next line of storms comes in later. Sleep tight, friends.

Okay here, Mint. It has rained all night and supposed to keep raining. Good day to stay inside and read , sleep or watch tv. Looks very wet outside so guses the road is flooded. They didn't finish making care of the trees they killed but maybe they will when it dries up. Hope everyone is well today.
Darwin said that was the best candy he ever had. I agree. He was at home, in bed not feeling well when I was there yesterday and his wife thought he was down cutting wood. He said she is just not aware and can't remember anything. So sad for both of them.

Checked the weather forecast..no tornados so turned over and slept through what did happen. Very dark outside…good day to putter inside.

Thank you Mint and Lorita for the birthday wishes.
Yes, it was Monday.
Turning 78 I have to wonder where all those years went! lol

Happy Saturday everyone and Happy belated birthday Marie! The years sure do go by fast that's why it's so important to make everyday we have here count, enjoy what we have and be kind to one another.
Glad those in the path of the storms are safe. It's been hot and humid in my part of Florida; I live near the ocean so there is always a nice breeze on my patio so that helps.
Lorita, is Todd still around and do you hear from him? Is it like six months since Carol passed? When do you think they will bring your girls back; I know how much you love and care for them. I also had an idea for starting new thread - what do you think of the first of each month so we'll all know new one started. Just a thought.
I don't post often but do try to read posts everyday. I learn so much here about all kinds of things I didn't know - gardening, cooking, life! You all are my google. xo

Belated Happy Birthday Marie!
I too had a milestone birthday earlier this month. I know that things won't be as good as they were in my earlier years, but I look upon my older years as my reward for the struggles that I had gone through in the past. So I'm going to relish these years with a new perspective.

How did you sleep, Iris? I don't know.if we had heavy storms or.not. didn't wake up. Still raining some here but haven't been out to check the rain gauge yet but everything looks really wet and there are puddles. That is a really good way you have to think about growing older.
CaroLynn, good idea.but will probably have to.be reminded. I shoot. for page 20 but it usually gets beyond that. I haven't talked with Todd in some time and I should call him. You know, it's been nine months the 26th of this month since we lost Sarah.. Doesn't seem.possible.. I still think of something I want to tell her or ask her, then remember I can't. There is no one left to ask questions I have about family matters.
I guess the girls will come back after they graze out where they are. He bales that section for hay so it will have to have time to get big enough to.bale after they graze off this grass. There's about 600 acres with maybe five herds over there. They are in the west - south 80 maybe and can probably go into the west-north 80 so may take some time. I miss seeing and talking to them. I know they miss being in the barn when it rains. Most of them were raised having the barn for shelter from cold, rain and heat. There's a difference in raising cattle as a business vs for the love of just having them and not for money. Guess I should get dressed, still have on my gown and robe or I could just stay like this. One of the perks for living in the country and alone.
UPS.brought a pkg. After dark last night.. Opened it this morning and it was the three lantana. The plants are about 3" tall and two of them already are blooming. Guess I'll put them in a.black pot on the tree stump, or maybe only one in the pot. Years ago we had lantana and they were tall. They said the Gerbera Daisies were delivered three days ago but not here. They will resend them.
Judith, are they having protests in OKC? Have you planted your caladiums? Still haven't gotten mine.

We have a lot of protests here. Recently there was a large protest at the capitol. There are certainly some things I would like to protest but the parking and walking to deter me.
Belated good wishes for the year ahead Marie.
Do all of the cows fit in the barn?
No, caladiums are still in the box. They go to the flip house. Probably 2 more weeks and the ground will be warm enough. I think I will use Mexican heather this year in front of the fence,

Good afternoon.
It's a lovely day here for a change although pollen levels are extremely high at the moment so I'm inside with the windows closed at the moment.
Mom's 2 blood cultures showed no growth as of last night which means her staph infection is no longer detectable. She's been really stressed awaiting the results; I didn't expect a positive given how well she's been doing.
I did go shopping earlier but came right home as drivers in the center of town were tetchy. I'll grab a dessert in the morning and go to Ulta on Monday. I'm skipping my niece's Easter party but one of her friends will drive mom to and from, so that's good.
That's funny Carl, my current San Marzanos are also Cento— they have some language deeming them "certified" by an independent E.U. approved agency not affiliated with DOP/PDO. They are wonderfully flavorful but are packed in puree. They'll be on my pizza later this evening. I look forward to it.
Be well-

Judith yes they all fit in the barn with space to spare. Looked out and saw Billy. Guess he has been in the barn all day. It's still raining here, not hard, just enough to.be messy. Was going to take down the trash but will.wait a while. Trash truck probably won't run anyway.Been watching Grease so will finish that..Can't believe it was made 50 years ago.. Just checked and John Travolta is 71. You should see his current picture.
HB, glad your mothers lab work was good. Hope she continues to improve.
Finally decided I would get dressed. Now I want a nap. Trash can wait but I need to see if UPS might have left the plants down there.

Hard to believe it has been 30 Years ago today since the.bombing of the Murrow Building in Oklahoma City. Dark day in Oklahoma. There is an hour long show on TV tonight about all that happened . Earlier they interviewed the Trooper who arrested McVay about an hour later, 90 or so miles from OKC on a traffic violation, not knowing what he had done.

Carl, watch out for the storms tonight. They're headed your way. Weather said there have been many tornado warnings and bad weather around Dallas. Eagle, hope you're okay. Hail and tornado warning around Ada, way south of us. Flood warnings , then a couple of good days, then heavy rain again.
Good night, everyone. Sleep tight.

I will never forget the pictures of the firemen carrying the dead babies out of the wreckage of the Murrow Building daycare center. It was just months after my son's death, and it felt as if the children murdered in OKC were my own. Had McKay chosen Kansas City, he would have murdered some of my friends. I was so angry. I would have executed McKay with my own hand if I could have.
Now it's been 30 years. I knew it was April 18, but I didn't turn on the TV and didn't think of the significance of the date. Time does heal. But I'm still angry.

When I was young, April 18 was a good day. It was the day when, at Concord Bridge, "the embattled farmers stood and fired the shot heard round the world." I wish I could still think of it that way, and still see life that way, but Waco and OKC and a lot of other tragedies have battered my psyche for too many years.
I need to learn to forgive, even those who don't want forgiveness, even those who say "I did it and I'm glad." Maybe I'll ask Pastor David about that next time I see him, and pray about it in the meantime.

HB, I noticed that my Cento tomatoes have basil in them, which is probably an "impurity" by real San Marzano standards, but I like basil very much so I am sure I will enjoy them. I'm glad your mother is doing better. I had my mother for 72 years, but I still wanted more.
50 years since "Grease". I remember going on a driving vacation that year, and that song "Tell me more, tell me more" was on the radio ten times a day. I was 28 years old. I had a wife, two children, a dog, a mortgaged house, two ethel-burning V8 cars, and a job that allowed me to work 50-60 hours a week to pay for it all. I know what I was feeling, but what was I thinking?
Somewhere in Mark Twain's autobiography, he used the phrase "All those slow-drifting years." The man had a way with words.

Have had two tornado alerts on my phone. There's one just NW of is maybe 10 miles and another South going NE, probably 50 miles. Lots of rain, thunder and lightning, Everyone is in the bedroom and I have put on jeans and shirt. Just issued another tornado warning SW of us. They have said we may have tornadic weather tomorrow midday. I have closed captioning on the bedroom tv and it is really funny some of the things it shows, kind of like my tablet. I think I.can go.back to.bed. Thunder is really !oud and close- scaring Sheena.

Happy belated birthday Marie!
Carl and Lorita - I'm thinking good thoughts for both of you and that the tornadoes bypass you.
CaroLynne - I often ask myself the same question - where did those years go?
HB - I'm glad your mom is doing better.
I also remember the bombings. It was just horrible.
Other stuff —
I've been able to see my aunt. She's pretty weak, but in good spirits. She told me that she had one day last week where she was so weak she couldn't talk. 😕 We'll be able to see her again tomorrow, although probably not for very long. I'm so glad we made the drive down.
We'll start our drive back home after we see my aunt.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter.

Happy Easter!

I'm glad you went to see your aunt too, GG. I had a favorite aunt, my mother's youngest sister, and we loved each other without reservation. She was about 14 when I was born, and we bonded pretty tightly and remained so to the end of her life.
We are having a lot of rain and thunder in SW MO, and are under flood watches, but no prediction of tornadoes. However, the radar shows a lot of storms west of us in Oklahoma and Kansas. I probably should go back to bed and sleep before they get here.
It was about 60 and raining lightly this afternoon when I passed a neighbor's house and saw 6-8 children running around in the rain looking for Easter eggs. Good times.

Good morning
Wishing each of you a Blessed Easter
Carl forgiveness is important on a lot of different levels. When we don't it can be like drinking poison. A lady I knew talked about how she had to forgive a certain person or it was going to kill me. Lords prayer talks about it and in Matthew Jesus told Peter we are to forgive someone 70x7. Hope you find the strength you need. It can be challenging for us sometimes.
Lorita know it must be hard having no one to talk with in your family.
