HB,I.hope your friend is okay. Let us know when you hear something.

I just heard that Stephen Colbert's nighttime tv show has been cancelled..Most watched show at night. He is very outspoken about things, politics for sure. I wondered if this would happen.

Sitting by the phone until we leave for our appointment and I just got a text. She's waiting for transport to her room; she'll be staying overnight. She did have a blockage. She'll call her daughter to loop her in tonight. She's the one who had the twins delivered early because of pre-eclampsia last Sunday. Crazy month for them.
Off to the derm with a weight off my shoulders!1 -
Good morning.
Lorita. The cat soup is, Purina Friskeys Lil Soups. Our kitties really like them. We get them from Walmart, in boxes of 18 with 2 different flavors. I would also worry about that baby calf, not finding his mom, and being hungry. Is this common?
GG. The singing bowls, put out beautiful sounds. DD, got herself a small one, im going to get me one, and see if we can make pretty sounds. I bet your looking forward to the family visit. It's always nice to see them come, and i also enjoy seeing them leave.
JeriLynn. Enjoy your mani/pedi, you sure deserve it. Your simple lunch sounds Yummy.
HB. I really enjoyed yoga, with the relaxing and stretching movements. A person does not realize how relaxing it can be. Another thing is the hour is totally for yoga, if I was home, I would find other things to do, and not devote a hour for me. I would also have 2 dogs and 3 cats, walking all over me. 😁😁
How is your bestie doing, did she drive herself to the hospital? I can see me doing something stupid like that.
Wishing you all a good day. Hugs Zetta

Lunched at the Senior Center today. Now I'm doing laundry and catching up on paperwork. It's nearly 90 and humid, too hot for me to want to play outside.
Steven Colbert used to be funnier than he is now. One St. Patrick's Day, he ran a clip of an Irishman talking about the dignity of the Irish people, which was fine except the speaker was so drunk that he would have fallen if he hadn't been clutching a lamp post. Then we switched to a young woman who was preparing to bungie jump from a bridge, wearing the bottom half of a green bikini and some large shamrocks painted on her torso. Her explanation, somewhat slurred, was that she was doing this because her friends were. Then Colbert said: "I can hear her mother now. 'I suppose if your friends stripped naked, painted themselves green, and jumped off a bridge, you'd do that too.'" 😄
I need to go to the post office and see if I can get some fresh tomatoes. TTYL

Good afternoon all… and Happy Weekend.
Caro_Lynne I was born in KS but we live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We're suburb dwellers!
This eye nonsense is bothersome, for sure. Lorita I think you ask what they have me using. The prescription is Restasis. I'm to alternate between Refresh or Systane Complete PF (which he prefers) during the day. I am to use Pataday Allergy drop also. Then at night the Systane nightime jel. That is like Vaseline, frankly I'm not a fan. To me it feels grainy, but I know its not. I like the prescription drops and the Pataday allergy drops, to me I notice the most relief. But I'm following instructions doing them all. There is zero probity of us not sleeping with the ceiling pan turning!!!
We had plans for dinner out last night with our besties, then another couple horned in! They are fine, he's just a little different. But I will say, last night was quite pleasant. He was very engaging and everyone had a good time. I'd chosen where I wanted to go, but it got vetoed because she's gluten free. Ended up as a place that's ok, and I'll be darned if she didn't eat "normal" people food. My bestie looked at her and said really? Really your eating that and we're only here because of you. She laughed and said sometimes she just can't help it, but she'll pay a huge price for it today.
Time to figure out our dinner. I'm so tired of cooking the same thing. And I'll be darned if I'm going to stand outside and cook!! We won't starve, that's for sure. Let's everyone be safe.

Zetta, he was two or three months old so he was okay. He probably found her or she heard him and called. I think most of them are in the barn now but I see a few in the pond cooling off. You all know me I'm just an old mother hen when it comes to animals..
Tell me about the singing bowls and.how they work. Sounds interesting. Thank you for the name of the soup. I will order it for the vsts. They all love it, especially Msx.
Another delay from Sears. Another seniormost technician, she called him, has to come out and approve it and that may be the end of the month. I think I will get another one from Lowes for the utility room. I had debated about getting a freezer but another refrigerator will.be better. I wish I.could have reached through the phone this morning... I don't know how they stay in business with all the runarounds. If the contract worked like it did a couple of years ago things would be better. Guess they call it progress- I have another name for it.
They have worked on the washer a few times so guess it will be the next to go. Never have really liked it much anyway. Looks like I'm borrowing trouble.
Hot outside so I'm staying inside. Guess we have a couple of months of hot weather to come. I remember one Labor Day we decided to go to the Cherokee National Holiday in Tahlequah and it was 100. Of course the AC in the car quit working. I would like some rain to cool it off but guess that would make it more humid and farmers need to get that hay baled for the girls this winter.
Thanks for the information about the eye meds, Eagle. I don't always have to use many drops in the daytime but it seems worse at night and it may be blowing some on me.I have a piece of cardboard at the foot of the mattress to keep it away but I know some gets through. There seems to be so many meds advertised for dry eyes so it's good to know what you use. Have you ever tried the eye mask you warm in the microwave?
Carl, I really like Stephen Colbert and hate to see him go. I usually just watch his monolog. Good idea to stay in out of the heat. Back later.

Lorita— word on the street is that Colbert was canceled because CBS's parent company, Paramount, wants to sell to another company and merge with Skydance Media which would need approval of the current administration. TV as we know it is over.
Carl— Colbert was funnier when the world was funnier.
Eaglemom— I used to use Restasis before Xiidra. The new one works better for me, and the aftertaste is less awful. It's very expensive and not all plans will cover it. I do Patady once-daily drops for allergies and also Flonase which helps with itchy eyes. Zyrtec, too. I'm covering all the bases.
I am Team Ceiling Fan. I'd have it on high if DH wasn't such a bony wimp who gets cold. An eye mask could help with evaporation. I used to wear one but I thought the strap might be breaking off my hair. I have one like this. It looks a bit like a small strapless bra but it doesn't lay on my eyelids so it's comfortable.Bestie is staying overnight for observation and should go home tomorrow. She sounds great.

My wife had dry eye. Once she woke up with an eyelid stuck to the eyeball and had a painful red spot on the eye after she got it open. I was afraid she had had a stroke in the eye, so I took her to urgent care, where the doctor told us what it was. She tried the microwave eye patch but didn't like it and used Systane gel at night for several years. Then her neurologist recommended she take fish oil capsules every night, for brain health, and the dry eye problem went away. She didn't need eye drops or gel or anything else for her eyes for the last year or two of her life. A spoonful of olive oil might have the same effect as the fish oil, but I've never tried it.
No tomatoes yet. I'm eating supper alone so I'm opening a can of spinach and cooking a couple of eggs. I ate Cheerios with banana and nuts for breakfast and ate fish and veggies at the Senior Center for lunch, so I'm not doing a lot in the kitchen today. Tomorrow isn't looking too good either. I have some sweet potatoes, and I really like them microwaved and seasoned with a skim of butter and some pepper or cinnamon, so there's that if I get hungry again before bed. I'll crank up the oven again after the weather cools. Maybe.
Back in the 1960s, Sears earned more in interest and penalties for their credit cards than in profit from sales of merchandise. The rise of bank cards may be what has put them down.

Good point, HB. We are reliving the events of 1929 - 1931, and there is nothing funny about it.
Glad your friend is doing well.

Or PBS and NPR. One by one. Did they do away with radio free Europe or was it a different one a couple of months ago. Carl, I had chocolate peanut butter puffs with bananas for breakfast.I love microwaved sweet potatoes, split open with a sprinkle of sugar and more than a little butter. Never tried cinnamon or pepper.
I have to be careful with the meds I use for my eyes because of narrow angles. Can't take allergy meds either. I need to try the microwave mask.
HB, did your friend have stents put in? Glad she's doing well.

HB, glad your friend's procedure went well. How frightening!
Have a good evening, everyone. Beth

Anyone familiar with LG or Frigidaire refrigerators?
Sleep well, everyone. Good night.

HB - I'm glad it looks like your bestie is going to be okay! Very scary.
About cities - our San Francisco neighborhood was (probably still is) pretty tightly knit as well. Part of it is that the Castro is a very gay area, and gay people sadly have to deal with homophobia, so people stick together. But also, the heart of the Castro is only about four blocks, so I knew all of my neighbors, and I knew all of the shopkeepers, the bank and grocery store folk, servers at the restaurants, etc. We could all spot a tourist or someone who didn't live there a mile away. 🙂
JeriLynn - your 'simple' lunch would not be simple for me - pudding and potato salad would trip me up. However - I'm making deviled eggs on Sunday.
Lorita - I hear you about the hot tea - I'll drink it in cold weather and in hot weather.
We didn't have summer camps in southern California, but we would go camping. For us it was in the San Gabriel mountains. Iris may know about some of the locations - Mt. Baldy, Wrightwood, Big Pines. Mountains were an hour in one direction, and the beach was an hour in another direction.
After school we were always playing with our friends, but like Judith, we had to be back by dinner.
Southern California is probably why I'm a weather wimp - there's no snow there, the temps are basically the same all year long, no hurricanes or tornadoes. We have to deal with the possibility of earthquakes, but we're all prepared for that (unless it's the Big One -then we're toast).
About Colbert - I'm with HB, I've read that too.
Judith - I can't even count the number of times I've had spaghetti for breakfast - cold even.
I also did Brownies, and one year of Girl Scouts, but I was done with Girl Scouts when the boys got to go camping and the girls had to make seat covers for football games. I was so not happy. To this day I love camping. And I still love Thin Mints.
Zetta - it's great to see everyone. These relatives are the ones on my s.o.'s side, so we don't see them as often. Our nephew has come such a long way. He's more than moderate on the autism spectrum, but he's doing great. He's turned into such a wonderful person.
Carl - no, there's nothing funny about it at all.
Hey Beth - I hope you have a good evening as well!
Over here, we're just hanging out with the fam, so I have very little to report. We're going out for brunch tomorrow to one of our favorite places - good variety of food there, stuff for vegetarians as well as for the meat eaters in the group.

good morning
HB hope your bestie continues doing ok.
Lorita I remember catalogs etc. in outhouse during my childhood. We moved to Ohio when I was seven years old I believe. Once we moved here, we had indoor bathrooms. We lived in a pretty rough house at first, but it had a bathroom. In Kentucky my dad had managed to build a new home. It was a nice home, much nicer than the home we now had in Ohio, but they didn’t put a bathroom in it. We still had an outhouse. It didn’t take my dad too long till he got us a better home in Ohio. Then he also put in an indoor restroom for his parents in Kentucky. We were from Appalachian foothill area of Kentucky and it was pretty poor. That’s why my dad left there was to get a better job.

Good morning all.
Bestie will go home today. She had an uneventful night other than going full-on Karen with the 3-11 nurse. Doctor upped her statin from 20mg to 80mg which is common after an intervention for a blockage— she refused it because she wants to talk to a doctor first and the hospital doesn't have her OTC Xyzal on formulary and offered Zyrtec. I love her, but she does have a way of alienating people.
Her daughter was very upset to learn about the heart attack and stent. She's got some serious FOMO (for Judith— fear of missing out) and angry and hurt that "everyone" knew before she did. Everyone would be me, her ex (for some reason she wanted me to call him) and the friend from church who will feed her cats. She's planning to drive home. We'll see how that goes.
Carl— Your poor wife with the stuck eye lid. That must've been excruciating for her. I took fish oil for a time, and it didn't seem to help with the dry eye (or the joints which was my reason to try it). I do have a salad most nights with dressing I make with EVOO so maybe I'm already getting the benefit. About your wife's dry eye improvement, 2 things came to mind. If her dry eyes were the result of inflammation, maybe her use of turmeric calmed things down enough to relieve the dryness. My eyes would be dry anyway, but they're made worse by my use of screens and reading (I don't blink often enough). I wonder if your wife reduced her eye strain because she was using screens and reading less in those last 2 years.
Lorita— The loss of funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, meant to offer universal access to all communities in the U.S., will impact the more rural and sparsely populated parts of the country. I wouldn't be surprised if larger cities were able to maintain a NPR and PBS station for their communities with local reporting through donations and grants but with less created content. But the smaller places might not. With internet, they'd be able to stream these stations, but they wouldn't have the local news and special interests available.
The one thing I hear is to avoid Samsung in appliances. My Samsung TV is OK but it can't get Apple TV which annoys. My friend has some LG appliances— she had them in her old house and liked them well enough to buy new ones when she upgraded her current kitchen. No complaints from her so far. My Whirlpool appliances were uniformly awful. My range died in 25 months and would have cost more to repair than replace including the purchase of the required new gas line connection. The ice maker of the fridge died in less than 3 years and the dishwasher, which was bought same time as the range, leaked the week after the oven died. The microwave lasted the longest at about 4 years; it was replacing a GE model I bought just before my son was born. He'll be 33 next month. Mom has KitchenAid which is the same parent company and hers has been fine except for the dangerous burner knobs. The appliances are very, very similar. Go figure.
Wirecutter recommends LG for a number of their "best" refrigerators. For French door, they like LRFLC2706S; for a bottom freezer LRDCS2603S; and for top freezer LTCS20020. For side-by-side they do recommend a Whirlpool WRS315SNHM.
Gothic G— When DS's troop would attend open camp-o-rees with girl scouts, I was always struck by the different approaches. The girls slept together in massive tents that had the canvas decorated. A few planted gardens of silk flowers with garden edging around them. This was a sharp contrast to the boys who were two to a tent and whose site area was littered with random gear. Not long after DS aged out, the BSA added female packs and troops. In theory, they were separate but in most chartering organizations, they ran parallel and did their meetings and outings together. One benefit to that was the access it gave girls to the physical assets and programming of the BSA for those who really like the adventuring piece of scouting.
____________________________________________________________________________________
I need to sort out my day. I'll put together lunch and dinner for DS who has a 12-hour shift today and maybe make some cheese bread for bestie. I need to stop by her house this weekend to deliver a baby gift. I'll pick her up some melon and corn from the local farm stand to drop off as well.
Have a nice day.

Ditto on Samsung appliances. My dishwasher was kaput in 3 years with very little use, the range in 5. And today DH says we need to get a new washing machine - it will not stay in balance during the spin cycle. 5.5 years old. The icemaker freezes up continually. Never Samsung again for me.
Our neighbor across the road owns a nail salon in our nearby community so I went there yesterday instead of driving into town. Also a never again. The guy who did my toes hurt me twice. He got more polish on his gloves than on my nails. And the massage was less than satisfactory. The owner did my fingernails and it was ok. Owner owed DH $ for a lawnmower so my service was free. I tipped each operator $20, smiled and said Thank You. I'll drive to town next time.
Got chicken on for salad. Will get everything except the pudding done this morning. Pudding tomorrow so the cookies are not soggy.
DH got round hay bales yesterday so he's getting that out before the rain comes today. I'm cleaning. It's just too hot and muggy out there for me.
HB, I'm glad your Bestie is ok. Scary stuff.
I use Restasis for dry eyes because my insurance company will not approve Xidra. I'm also on Team Ceiling Fan in every room. With a light sweater because I am also wimpy when air is blowing on my neck and shoulders. I keep a light wrap in every vehicle because DH is a grizzly bear who blows the AC full blast, lol.
Edited to add: DH's SIL passed away night before last. Peacefully with her family at her side. Grateful for gentle passings.
Y'all stay safe and I'll TTYL

I. have a Subzero frig…it is over 30 years old and the only repair has been a new ice maker 3 months ago. My range is a La Canche…it too is over 30. years old. Nothing wrong with it except the mice chewed up the wiring. That cost me a pretty. Yes, they were expensive but I did get a professional discount. Would I buy again at full price? At age 84? Nope.
I think the fewer bells and whistles the better. One really need to do some research on what to buy. I almost opted not to replace the icemaker. Trays are really very easy.
Hot/humid today.
HB…thanks. I would never be able to figure that one out…lol

I use ice trays. My Whirlpool refrigerator is 16 years old and the icemaker quit 14-15 years ago, just like the icemaker in the previous refrigerator I bought in 1995. I don't think I would spend a dollar for another icemaker. I was nearly 50 years old before I owned one and got along just fine.
I took DS out for burgers and fries today. We sat in the car under a shade tree and enjoyed the breeze while we ate and talked. It was nearly 90 degrees F but the breeze was 10 mph and it felt nice. I bought some Amish tomatoes and cantaloupe on the way home. Reminds me of that song from Porgy & Bess: "Summertime, and the living is easy . . ."

When DS needed his wisdom teeth out, I bought a countertop ice maker at Costco on sale for $40. It works quickly and makes small cubes ideal for first aid.

appliances…be certain to buy a brand that has good repair in your area!!! It took a year to find repair for the range damage

Thanks for all the good information. My Kenmore refrigerator is 25 years old. Ice maker wss replaced twice, I think. IF they ever authorize the placement I'll get one as nearly like it as possible. The one I think I will get is one for the utility room to keep extra things will not have an icemaker.
Sandy and I went over the different kinds last night and Whirlpool won out. This morning I've been trying to get the things rearranged out there.I have an AC in the window and really don't want to use the same outlet for the refrigerator so have to move a chest of drawers where I keep winter things and a slender cabinet across the room. Mopping is included so I'm doing it in increments.
I have a washer and dryer and water heater out there plus storage for cat and dog food, another cabinet and litter box. It's a long room - used to be a screened in porch, turned into a room. For the life of me I don't remember when my parents made the change- even had to redo the roofline and made extra footage. I had a new floor put in a couple of years ago when they replaced part of the. Bedroom floor. That was necessary when I had snakes in the house from a broken board under a heavy wardrobe.. Always something to deal with.
Really hot and sultry. It's 90 degrees but heat index is 109 so I plan to stay in.The poke I sprayed p!us some Johnson grass is still standing. Usually takes a couple of days to die. Girls are in the barn and there is a little wind for ventilation.
I have two big fans and an electric heater I need to get rid of because they no longer work and I have no idea what to do with them. They were in the utility room along with a wheeled battery charger and a dolly. Better stop and get on it.
Carl, what you said about eating hamburgers in the car in the shade so reminded me that Charles and I used to do that. The meat patty went to Barclee, our Shin Tzu, and I had a cheese burger minus meat. Back later.

lorita…who picks up your trash?
0 -
Herringshaw Waste Mngmt. I called a few months ago to see if they could pickup bigger items. They used to but no more. I will call again.
Rusty has a wife!!! Lilly was looking out the window watching something on the porch. I looked and it was Rusty eating sunflower seeds. I took out more and a little later he was back with hid wife so guess I will have to put out more from now on. Sandy, I checked and squirrels do eat tender leaves and many flowers. No idea why they don't eat the violets in the yard. Maybe they do

Well, tomorrow everyone heads home - it's been a great visit. Brunch this morning was tasty, and I was able to stay well within my ABC confines. Tonight my nephew told me he wanted to hear some Dead Lights (he was curious about them), so I chose a couple that I really like, and he liked them as well. Made me happy that me, the old person, can find new music that a 20-something will like (and I don't think he was just humoring me.
HB - hopefully by the time you see this, your bestie will be recovering and resting at home.
I'm happy to know that scouting has changed, and that the girls can now camp and do the things that I wasn't allowed to do.
JeriLynn - I"m sorry that your DH's SIL passed away. But I'm glad it was a gentle passing.
Lorita - Have you always been vegetarian? I've done that with hamburgers too - take out the meat and eat the rest. On the extremely rare occasions we stop off for burgers, we'll go out of our way to find an In-N-Out because they'll make the burger that way for those of us who don't eat meat.
Yay for Rusty!

Good morning
Sorry JeriLynn about the loss of your SIL.
Some of my family members have had issues with Samsung appliances too.

Morning, already nice and warm outside. Going to be scorcher all week long and probably until mid to late September. I can remember hot summers when the roads would buckle and they're telling about that now already in other states.
GG, not sure I have ever heard of Dead Lights -' assume it's a singing group or band. I have been a vegetarian for probably 40-45 years. Not a vegan because I do eat dairy products and eggs occasionally ,( if I can not think about where they came from). Never did eat much meat my whole life.
Darwin said he thought he would stay in today -That will be the day. He told me yesterday he has two more trees down so that will be on his mind. He will have to go in for meds but not today. I told him when he needs groceries to tell me and I can order them and have them delivered but can't do that for pills. I can request delivery as early as 7 before it gets too hot.
Just put out sunflower seeds for Rusty and his wife. They had eaten all I gave them last night.
JeriLynn, sorry for the loss of your sister-in-law.
Time for the morning news shows. Stay cool today.

JeriLynn, I'm sorry for your loss.
