Yes, Mint, what a gorgeous moon this morning! Full and big and yellow. I loved seeing it.
Lorita, glad you got the check for your refrigerator.
Carl, the Stroll garden sounds fantastic. What a nice day you had!

Good morning. It rained overnight and this morning which is good. Things were starting to look a little parched. Some of my trees are already starting to turn color and shed leaves.
Ron— Bummer about your grandson dropping football; I remember you enjoyed watching him in the games.
I can appreciate wanting to do a walk through. Is there anything available in the general area for sale that might meet your requirements. The timeline for a new build is considerable and has a lot of moving pieces that could result in delays. Turnaround time from contract to possession here is 6-9 months in a planned community where all the permitting and grading has been done. If you need to find a parcel of land, buy it, have it tested for suitability for well/septic or bring in city water/sewer, get permits, find a builder and have it built it could be a lot longer. I guess it comes down to what you want more— the experience of the project that results in your dream cabin or having your own real kitchen asap. Sounds like you're well fed without that because of your family.
Lorita— I have a friend who worked for a time with a large charity serving the unhoused in Philadelphia. One of her issues with these kinds of programs is the inhumanity with which the unhoused are treated. So much of the language used in discussing the problem makes people sound like vermin— like if we take away their nests or stop feeding them, they'll go somewhere else. Shelters aren't a good answer; most require residents to clear out during the day. Her organization was unique in that they focused on getting folks housed and then help them with mental health, substance use and employment once they're safe instead of requiring them to earn a place by doing so. It's a more humane and successful strategy.
Jerilynn— The allergies have been awful this year. The tree pollen season was OK, but the weeds are kicking my butt. I'm using both Zyrtec and Flonase daily along with Pataday for my itchy eyes.
I'm glad the Grandparents Day was a success.
LOL, on my scheduling skills. My niece once laughed that if anything happened to me that my poor DH wouldn't last a year. I told her he'd be dead in less than 90 days. She replied "that's awfully specific". I said, "the man has no idea where his heart medication comes from or how to get more".
Judith— What do you mean you did 2 paintings? Did you paint them, study them or something else entirely?
Tigermom— You can't go wrong with RICE for a sprain. Compression feels good.
I wonder if the update scheduled here on Tuesday evening will put an end to the editing glitch so many have run into.
Gothic G— I laughed at the description of your DH's hair. Once mom and I were in the waiting room of her pulmo and a man came in with seriously disheveled hair. He was otherwise nicely dressed so it caught my eye. I heard him chatting with the desk at check-in. It turns out the man has a side hustle impersonating Albert Einstein which is a fairly lucrative endeavor a mere 30 miles from his home in Princeton.
Mint— I am not ready for 44F in the morning. TBH, I'm not loving darkness at 7:30 in the evening or when I wake up in the morning.
Carl— That's some next level people watching. I don't get the whole furries thing. Especially on a warm day. But, to each their own.

I'm catching up on some laundry today. I washed the small rugs from the bathrooms. May I live long enough for them to actually dry.
Still waiting on one of my tests; it's been 12 days already. I'll reach out to the CNP who ordered it if we got to 2 weeks. I was told "about a week".

HB your friend was doing the right thing.. People are homeless for many reasons and I'm sure time was not taken to find the reason. These people have struggled to find a few personal things including things to be used for shelter and the officials came in, grabbed everything and threw it in a truck. One thing I can't forget was a man who had a tent for shelter. They came in, tore it down and threw it in the truck. Somehow he managed to get it back and there was a video of him pulling it across the grass to put it back up, I guess.
On my.previous post I mentioned they shot a persons dog. The man was asleep and the dog was probably trying to protect him while he slept. It was said the dog lunged at the shooter. They did operate on the fog but later I heard the he died. It showed the owner and he wss so upset about losing his dog, his friend and protector.
They should have made sure there would be shelter for everyone before they began rounding them up. I don't know if they followed through with this but it was said they would be given a choice of going to a shelter or to jail. Evidently all the shelters were full and it showed people returning back to their area but, this time, without anything at all. This wasn't done in the right way.
They're going to do an update? In the past they did this fairly often and things were confusing for a while. Hope this update helps.

We have an organization called The Kitchen, founded by a Catholic nun, that started as a soup kitchen, added a health clinic with volunteer doctors, and evolved into a "homing the homeless" organization. They own apartments, furnish cars to carpool to work, and do much else to help people get off the streets. I gave them a car, and have given them clothing, furniture, and other things.
Many people in power have never been poor and have no idea how easy it is to go from "paycheck to paycheck" to homeless. I recall one man who lost his convenience store job because he missed work for three days during a bout of influenza. Then he lost his car because he missed a weekly payment, couldn't get another job without transportation, and lost his apartment. Capitalism is very productive, but one of the things it grinds up is people. This man didn't even have a substance abuse or other mental illness; he was just poor.

Ok, to recap for Lorita and others: Carl retitled RFK as Secretary for Health and Human Sacrifice, and HB described him as that animated piece of beef jerky. Brilliant, the both of you. Bravo!
It was in the 50s here when i woke up this morning, and it’s still cold and rainy at noon. Made for some good housecleaning weather. Too hot and humid to do it yesterday.
Lorita, the men’s final of the US Open will air at 2pm ET today on ABC. Djokovic lost yesterday in the semi-final to Carlos Alcaraz, who will play Jannik Sinner for the title. ABC is Network TV, so should be widely watchable.
And I agree with you about the homeless encampment and destroying people’s property. That should not have happened. And how heartless to shoot someone’s dog, who was just doing his job. Homelessness is a big problem here, and things like that sometimes happen here, too. But I think they are trying to be a little more proactive and less hostile lately. It is hard in the winters, when many of the homeless simply move into the subway system where it is warm.I cleaned half the house today and will finish tomorrow. It is easier on my back (and my foot!) to break it up into two jobs.
Well, I am off to have some lunch before the match. Hope everybody has a good day!

Here is a tiny home I liked!
And in the back is the bedroom and bathroom, also stairs to the loft is as you start to enter the bedroom.
Really don't believe I would need more than this, but still looking.
Ron

That's room enough for me! It's a nice looking place, too.

Carl, The Kitchen sounds like a good organization to help people You're right mostly people who make laws don't know what it is like to be poor.
Tigersmom, thanks. Both names are very appropriate. I don't know the tennis players anymore except Djokovic and I never cared for him.. Federer was our favorite. Guess I missed the match- been watching an Audie Murphy movie.
Ron, I think the house is really cute. Looks like plenty of room. Charles and I lived in an 8 x30 travel trailer for almost two years after we got married. Housekeeping was easy and we loved it.
Judith, you're right,- lots to learn from everyone. Are you completely over your dizziness?

Tigersmom, where is Alcarez from? I'm watching it now.

Lorita, Alcaraz is from Spain. Sinner is Italian. Pretty good match!

Ron, I like tiny homes but I don't like lofts or stairs for older adults.
What happened to what you posted before? Was that a cabin? An RV?
I'm finally not coughing much but I still feel weak. BBL.

JeriLynn - I'm happy to report that our air quality is now back down to 26, and the sunlight is back to normal. The word that comes to my mind for those sickly yellow skies is "oppressive", but "ominous" is just as apt.
I wouldn't say I have a phobia with math, but I would absolutely say that I'm math averse. I will also occasionally count down from 100 by 7s. I'm going to the doctor this upcoming week for my "wellness" check and I know there's a clock face in my future.
HB - my s.o. went as Albert Einstein one year for Halloween. "!!!!!!!" is all I can say. For the guy with the side hustle as Einstein — I wonder what his patter is like?
HB and Lorita - About unhoused people - There's a huge dignity issue, of course, and then to add insult to injury, there's the data privacy (and personal privacy) issues. Nothing like a little identity theft to thwart your ability to get a job. And I can't let myself think about how people's animals are treated by authorities.
Carl - The Kitchen sounds like a wonderful organization.
tigersmom - thanks for that - good descriptions.
Carl - I love your potential tiny home. It looks like it has everything you need.
About sport - Somehow I know the golf people. I don't even like the game, but when I get to the gym and get on the treadmill, golf is usually on the TV, so that's what I see. 🙂
Today's mostly a lazy day for me - I'm ready for one! I'm going to finish going through all of the photos (I found another cache of them). We're going to the Bay Area in a couple of weeks and I'll bring some of the photos with me and hope that my aunt will know who some of those 1940s-1950s people are.
My s.o. just made a Thai curry for lunch, chicken for him, tofu for me and lots of veggies (green beens, snap peas, kale, red bell peppers). It was so good.

GG, glad your air quality is better. We have some smoke occasionally from the fires in Western Canada. I cannot see the fascination people have for golf. Carol's husband is 83 and he plays with ten other men who are in their eighties. They play in 100 degree weather and in the forties. To me that is a job playing four or five days a week.
Tigersmom, I caught some of the fifth set. Looked like it was a good match. So, McEnroe is still around with all his white hair. Lendl is looking older, too. I would not have recognized him. Those were two of the guys we used to watch.
Iris, glad the coughing is better...Takes a while for us to recover. Take it easy.
Need to.feed the GPs and myself. Enjoy the evening.

The moon is huge and beautiful!! It's reflecting in the pond and is so pretty. Mint, did you say it's the Corn Moon?
Good night, sleep tight.

Good morning to the big, bright, beautiful moon and to you all!
I'm drinking black coffee this morning since I have fasting lab work at 7:40 this am. And, I'm grumpy about it. Luckily, Starbucks is across the highway from the lab so, not too much longer to wait.
Oliver Kitty has tummy issues and only made it to the hallway rug this morning …. uggh. I made an appointment for him last week to go to sleep but cancelled it. DH talked me out of taking him but, I really think it's time. If he were human, he would be on Hospice. He's 19 and has traveled across the country with me to work assignments, lived in hotels, rental houses and the RV. He loved traveling in the RV. He would get on the top bunk, lay on a suitcase and look out the window, lol. I hired a private service to drive him and the 3 dogs from Central Florida to Washington State. In California, he had a window bench to look out the 3rd story hotel suite window. Then back across country home to Alabama. He's a travelin' man.
After my lab appointment, we have to haul the GPs up to the Vet for rabies shots. Thankfully, the Vet Tech will come out to the car to give their injections. They like people, but they do not like other animals. Their job requires them to protect the goats, so anything on 4 legs is a threat in their minds. DH will manage them. I go to provide sweet talk and treats.
According to my calendar this should be a "light" week. Take dear Aunt with dementia for lab work and a birthday breakfast, study and take tests for the children's outreach program for my church, go with DH to Lynchburg for his allergy shots, cut grass here and at Huntland, clear the remains of the garden, mail some packages and begin sorting the tons of Christmas decor I need to sell from the AL apartment clean out. Easy, peasy.
So, you all have a good day and I'll TTYL.

Good morning
yes we are headed to less light HB. I think it affected me more when I worked than now. At least now I see daylight. When I worked, I went to work in the dark and I came home in the dark. Always took a while to adjust to that and I would feel tired.
Trying to help the homeless is very complicated. People who are boots on the ground in it will tell you that. Some who tried their hardest to be a solution had to give up.
Glad you have your freedom back Iris
Take care0 -
Lorita yes it is the corn moon
my post would not allow me to edit. I wanted to add it to my post. I think I’ve seen others complaining of that recently. I’ve seen others complaining of that recently.
then it actually wouldn’t even let me put on a new post but what I did was I went back a page and then it would allow me to start a new post. That’s just a hint in case someone else has that problem.

I could not edit this morning either.

Good morning. It's a beautiful day on tap here.
Carl— The Kitchen sounds a bit like Project Home in Philadelphia. Also started by a nun, who is friends with Jon Bon Jovi, they are creating housing and help with adult education, afterschool care, health services and outreach. For a time, my friend ran their drop-in center where the unhoused could hang out, get showers, do laundry, talk with advocates and social workers, grab a hot drink, charge their phones, etc. From there, she moved to out-reach which she loved.
Ron— I love the modern farmhouse vibe of the design. Is that going to be enough prep space for a cook of your caliber? Is it workable for aging-in-place?
Iris— I'm glad you've been released from COVID jail but you're still going to need to take it easy until your strength returns.
Lorita— McEnroe was my DH's favorite player. Back in the olden times, he used to take the second week of Wimbledon as a vacation week so he could watch. He's since lost interest.
My auntie, the sweet one with dementia and a compound full of stuff in ME, started her married life in a trailer. Her new husband was a grad student at Rutgers; they lived on campus in 1950 in the married dorms. They had a 15-footer with bathroom facilities down the path. She was happy as a clam there but unlike Ron she wasn't much of a cook.
Jerilynn— Oliver sounds like a very special guy. It won't be easy to say thank you and goodbye to a companion who shared so much of your life.
Your "lite" week sounds exhausting.
Gothic G— Mom's MAP includes a NP in-home visit. This earns her a $50 gift card so she's all in. When the NP did a quick cognitive assessment a couple years ago, mom drew a case clock and added Roman numerals just to be extra. Last week she tried to charge her Apple Watch using a lightening cable, so it would be interesting to see what she'd draw if asked today.
Interesting you mention identity. This is a huge issue for the unhoused— many can't prove who they are which is needed to access any kind of assistance. Replacement documents cost money and are mailed which is a double hurdle. It's surprising how many homeless are veterans. One charity my friend still volunteers with is Restart which came about to fill this need. They also have a meal on the parkway each Monday for anyone who needs it. This one was started by a professional soccer player.
I don't get watching golf, but then I kind of don't get cooking shows either. I used to enjoy a round with DH and/or my mom— but deliver me from the serious country club types. I could never make it my whole personality like my dad did. And he wasn't even any good at it.

The moon was an absolute dud here. Local meteorologists were playing it up as a rare early rise which would be colored by the sunsetting and very dramatic. DH and I went out every 15 minutes and it was just kind of meh. Bright but not the size or colors we were promised. My neighbors must've wondered what we were up to. Our previous neighbors once asked us why we were looking up at the sky. NASA was launching one of the last space shuttles at dusk which means in ideal conditions you can see it from here. DH explained it to him and his son. They looked at DH like he was an idiot and went back in the house. I cannot fathom that lack of curiosity.
I took mom food shopping yesterday. I even braved Wegmans. I did prepare myself by preloading an Aleve and wearing my squishiest athletic shoes. When I got there, she claimed to only need a "few things— lettuce and fruit and wine". Wegmans strongly encourages the use of reusable bags. Mom had a box of such bags in her kitchen when I arrived. When I prompted her to get some, she extracted 2 grocery and 0 wine bags. I suggested that she grab more bags as she always runs out and then has to buy bags, so she grabbed 1 more grocery bag.
When we got to the store, she selected a little cart. I tried to encourage the larger one, but she claimed she was only getting a few things. Instead of cutting her go free-range in the store, I escorted her around in a logical manner. Needless to say, she remembered a whole boatload of things she needed and filled her cart and most of mine. $297 later, she'd filled her 3 bags and the 4 I brought for myself. Guess who had to buy more bags?
The week looks quiet so far. I may do a little weeding. Tomorrow, I have an eye appointment to have my glands expressed and then I drop off my car to get some gasket cover replaced. Still waiting on some bloodwork; it'll be 2 weeks on Wednesday which seems awfully long.
I hope you all have a pleasant day.
