Eve, I still have those feelings after more than ten years. Sorry.

JeriLynn, Lily looks like Stormy did when he was a puppy but the dark hair lightened. Do they have trouble with allergies and hot spots? Sheena has allergies but no hot spots but Stormy has both. I don't remember them having allergies until they were five or six.

Mike suggested I have their hair cut pretty short next year to help with allergies. Sheena like to to be brushed, Stormy not so much. GPs are wonderful, sweet tempered dogs. Ours stay in the yard except when I take them for walks. They do keep the girls away from the fence. Wonderful watch dogs. Do you bathe them?

Lorita, we usually TRY to bathe them. But keeping Lilly out of the pond long enough is a challenge. No hot spots and no haircuts. Lilly HATES being brushed so we sadly wind up cutting some tangles off. I would take her to a groomer if I could find one. Not found one willing to do the job though

    Hello Porch Friends.

Ron. I really liked that cabin, but for me the stairs would be a issue. Hopefully if you choose that one, the stairs will be fine. The house, we are moving into in Bosie, has stairs to the bedrooms, luckily my bedroom and bath are downstairs. My DD, and I plan on going up and down for exercise.

Iris, it's nice your cough has gone. Take care and get lots of rest, sorry you had to miss your trip. You will enjoy the next one.

JeriLynn. It's funny the same thing happened to me. I also had to fast last week, for my doctors appointment. I was so glad the Starbucks, was right across the street. Especially now, that they are offering the pumpkin spice flavoring. I hope Oliver, kitty is feeling better. Jake and Lilly are beautiful. Molly, my little dog loves riding in the car.

    Hugs to all Zetta

JeriLynn, I know how you feel about Oliver,- you want to keep him as long as possible but don't want him to suffer. An awful decision. When it was time for Susie to go, Mike had to make the decision.

Go out and look at the moon.. Good night.

I'm sad that I'm missing that beautiful moon that all of you are talking about. But that's life in the PNW - cloudy. Forever. 😄

Iris - Yay! I'm glad you're out of covid jail.

JeriLynn - Oliver Kitty. 🙁It's really hard. This was how I felt about Godzilla and Gamera. Godzilla was 18 and a traveling cat just like Oliver Kitty. Gamera, not so much. It was so hard losing both of them (at different times). And I know what you mean - you kind of know when it's time, even though you don't want it to be.

    I love your dogs!

I'm in the same boat as you were - I'm currently fasting, and am pouting about it. I'll go do my test tomorrow morning and then eat. raar

HB - You know, I've never been a Bon Jovi fan, but the more I read about Jon Bon Jovi, the more I think he's a thoroughly decent human.

I like that your mom put Roman numerals on her clock face. I told my s.o. that when I go in on Friday I'm thinking of drawing a clock like this one — you know, draw the basic shape of the clock with all of those curves, and then the clock face in the middle (just because I'm annoyed that I have to do this). But then I decided it would be too much like whistling past the graveyard, so I'm not going to do it.

Eve - I get you. This is a very hard journey.

We also made a Costco run today. We picked up a humongous box of Ghirardelli brownie mix - for when we're done with the ABCs (Oct. 1!).

I had a lot of odds and ends to do today, but got everything done in time for Death Guild (which just started).

Later on this week we're getting our covid and flu shots. We both saw this article on Politico that said that there is an ACIP meeting on Sept. 18 and 19, and they'll be discussing the covid vaccines (among other vaccines), and we're kind of concerned that access may be further limited. Maybe we're over-reacting, but we decided to get our shots before that meeting takes place. I'm not feeling great about the flu shot, especially since all of you medical folk recommended waiting.

Today I was a little wobbly on the stairs, probably because I was so sedentary for over a week, so I hydrated and walked around my condo complex. When I returned home I wasn't wobbly.

We have missed two trash pickup days due to the bathtub being in the dumpster. Trash is piling up. I sent a photo to management. I was told they are waiting for the homeowner to remove the bathtub himself. I don't think that's going to happen. Oh, the joys of condo living!

I really didn't do anything today besides walk around and take my own trash out to the other dumpsters. I have to try to get going tomorrow.

    Good morning

Its just refreshing to have cooler morning temperatures.

They delivered the hot tub cover yesterday. The guy was barely able to remove the waterlogged cover. After cutting it in half and his face turning red he finally got it off. I have no idea what it must have weighed. He put the new one on and I see him staring at it. Then he turned it and was staring at it. Next I saw him on his phone. I thought to myself this doesn't look good. I see him turning it again and finally I go outside to talk to him. The hot tub cover we've waited for since Feb has been made with the fold going the wrong way!! After going through everything we could possibly do, I settled on one. I didn't think I'd like how it looked on the patio, but frankly I like it better than before. I did ask about having it remade, and he said it would probably be five months. Nope, I'm not going down that road. Anyway, its done and the hot tub is up and ready to be used.

The vacuum is calling my name. Back later. Let's be safe everyone.

    Good morning all,

A beautiful and cool 60 degree morning, the high is only forecast to be 73 today. My kind of weather. Small chance of rain tomorrow, yay!

Looking forward to getting together with several ladies who used to be my Weight Watcher’s members. Once WW shut down all our locations we started meeting weekly to stay in touch. It’s become the social highlight of my week.

Our local Safeway grocery store has been our go-to for COVID shots. Hoping to go this Thursday, but may wait on the flu shot. The new razor throat COVID variant sounds like a worst case scenario of strep that I’d just as soon avoid.

It’s comforting to be part of such an understanding community here. I know I’m just beginning to navigate this journey and find it helpful to lean on and learn from all who have walked before me. Thank you.

Off to town. Take care and be safe.

    Good morning, just barely.

Eagle— After all that the cover wasn't 100% exactly what you ordered? Sheesh!

Jerilynn— Those are some handsome beasts. I don't envy anyone getting a fasting blood draw. Yuck. It's interesting, mom's cardiologist doesn't require fasting for his lipid panels. My PCP and endocrinologist do. You deserve a Starbucks after.

Lorita— Thirty-minutes listening to some horrible Muzak? I'd hang up too. Can you call the branch?

The medical system where most of our doctors are plays a rendition of a Mozart piano piece that sounds like it's being performed under water. I like when they offer a call-back later.

Chance— Your DH sounds like my mom in Costco and other stores. Her hearing isn't great even with hearing aids and she seems unaware of people around her. Her vision is terrible, too. She has unreliable depth perception and AMD which makes seeing packages/reading labels a laborious process. Consequently, she's often oblivious to inconveniencing others. It's clear she's with me, so I'm the one getting dirty looks for taking her out. During COVID I did all her shopping which was so much easier.

I hope your vaccine appointment goes well.

Gothic G— That sounds like a good plan. We all need to get shots. DS will need to play the underlying risk card. He's a risk to us. Between his classes and working the Santa trains (think preschoolers packed on a train singing <shudder>) he always brings us home some kind of Christmas Crud. One year he gave mom and DH COVID— somehow, I dodged it.

Iris— That's crazy. It would make so much more sense for the HOA to pay to remove the tub and charge the offending homeowner.

I weeded yesterday. The front beds look pretty good aside from some Rose of Sharon volunteers that will require chemicals. I filled 1 1/2 lawn bags with weeds and managed to get them into the barrel before it was picked up. Alas, something bit me, and my eye is still swollen from it. No idea what it was.

I look like the devil still. I need to run to the store. I'll wear my biggest sunnies to spare the locals.

Morning, sounds like everyone is up and at 'em. It was a beautiful fall-like morning but is warming up. These two weeks or more of cool weather has spoiled us.

Sandy, I have all of those c!othes in the car, ready to take down in the morning. I kept two coats I hope Bryon can wear. He work outside all the time so he might use them.

Eagle, sorry about the cover, after all that time waiting for it. Seems like things are just not done with the care they used to be.

Isn't it a few weeks early to get flu and covid shots? Maybe we are tending to get them early in case something happens they aren't available later. I like to wait until the latter part of October, but maybe shouldn't.

Since the clothes are out of that room I need to do housework, cleaning one room each day. If I could do that I would have it done in a week. Now I need to do some more work in the bedroom closet. I did find a new pair of shoes in the little closet I had forgotten about, never worn so that's a plus. Guess I got them last summer and didn't wear them because they were winter shoes.

I think I may get those three TVs in their boxes and put them in the cellar. It isn't being used so should work.. Hate to leave that for someone else though. I did find a recycling place about 30 miles away but the directions are sketchy and I would have to pay them to take them..Seems like everything is a problem.. Noticed the end of a quarter round had come loose in the bedroom so had to fix that. Seems like I begin doing something and have to stop to do something else

Beats me how I was able to get up at ,6 a.m., have breakfast, get dressed and get to work 30 miles away in all kinds of weather, for over 33 years. Shows that working outside the home is for younger people. I think that's why I tend to procrastinate,- no deadlines to meet most of the time. Better stop and get to work, maybe.

Lorita, I'm with you, I used to be up and ready to go early in the mornings when I was working. Even when I travel I can get up and go. But at home, I'm dragging.

This morning I was woozy again on getting out of bed, but I think it's from being sedentary, so I really do need to get going and walk about to strengthen my weakened muscles.

HB, what you suggest would be the way to go, but will they go the rational way? We'll see, but I'm not holding my breath.

Eagle, these hot tub covers aren't made to order, so why does it take so long?

Eve, thanks to Covid I'm down four pounds. I hadn't eaten any snack foods, like chips or cookies. Each time I get a craving I hold back.

I haven't been up to see the morning full moon, but I did see a picture, it was large and bright. Well, I'd better get going.

Two college students came to the senior center at lunch to solicit volunteers for a physical therapy study. I think I will participate. As a volunteer, I will get a PT assessment and eight weeks of PT (one hour per week with home exercises) to improve balance and prevent falls. The man across the table from me said he was paid $75 for the last study he did, but eight weeks of PT is worth a whole lot more than $75.

I hear you all about getting up early and going places. I think young people do it partly on caffeine and adrenalin. I had planned to meet SIL at Costco at 9:00 this morning, so I set an alarm for 6:30 and went to bed early. I must have been really sleepy, because I slept right through the alarm and woke at 9:30. About one minute later, while I was sitting on the edge of the bed, SIL called to say she had just arrived and apologized for being late. We both need keepers but we both live alone, so we are a mess. We laughed and agreed to reschedule for some other time.

My new "self only" health insurance card came today to replace my "plus one" card and I need to refill a prescription, so I'm off to Walgreen's to show them the new card. Have a nice day!

Better luck on your next meeting with your SIL, Carl.

I'm watching Gunsmoke, then will watch Lawrence O'Donnell and hit the hay. Kind of tired tonight. Hope all of you are okay. See you tomorrow. Good night.

Iris - I have the same question as HB - why doesn't the HOA pay to remove the bathtub and then charge the homeowner who is responsible? It's kind of bizarre.

I hope that you're starting to feel less wobbly now.

Eve - I'm glad you still get together with the Weight Watchers ladies. It's probably nice to see everyone.

My feeling about this community is the same as yours. When I walked in the door, I knew absolutely nothing about dementia. Everyone here was so welcoming and so helpful. Over the years I got so much great advice … people here really helped me so that I was able to be more effective in caring for my sister. I will always be grateful.

HB - I would have liked to have waited for our covid/flu shots, but what do you do?

I hope your eye heals soon!

Lorita - I did the same thing as you - up at 6:30 and in the office by 8am. Then leave at 5pm and do Jazzercise (and all that entailed) for an hour and then go home. I was glad when I got my first post-law school job - no one showed up in that office before 10am. It was heaven for all of us night owls. It was not uncommon for most of us to be working (and emailing) at 10pm, but I was happy to work late so long as I didn't have to be in the office at 8am.

Carl - that sounds like a good deal! When my regular trainer was out for a month following his hamstring surgery, I had a temporary trainer who was also a trained physical therapist. So he'd incorporate some of that with me. It was really good.

It was a mixed day for me. It started out badly. After fasting last night, I went in for my blood test and the doctor's office hadn't sent over the orders to the lab. So the lab sent me back to the doctor to get the orders (literally next door, so not a big deal), and I was greeted not by the receptionist, but by web cam guy on a laptop. 😐️ Another patient waiting in the office looked at me and said "I know." This is new since my last visit (in Aug). Web cam guy was not helpful. With no caffeine and no food in my system, I was kind of crabby and ready to go full on Karen, but I restrained myself and only gave them calm withering snark. It all got resolved. I was irritated because this should have taken 5 min, and instead it took about half an hour. It would have taken even longer if I hadn't complained.

    The day did get better.

My Tuesday afternoon DJ session was well-received. The music was "pop goth" - gothic music with no sharp edges, and very poppy, like this song - Dead Stars by Covenant.
