Judith are you ok?..
Iris, somehow I missed your post about your friend. People were talking about it so I read.backwards until I found it. How scary for.her. It pay to always be careful and keep doors locked. I keep mine locked when I'm inside just a habit, but not when I leave for a while. Glad things turned out all right.

Emjoying a couple of hours of music from the fifties and sixties - mostly doo wop. You could understand the words and the music was pretty. Brought back lots of memories. Do you all remember Bowser and Sha Na Na?
It has started to rain. Good.night

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
Iris - Nope, no shopping for this girl. I went to the gym this morning but otherwise stayed home.
Beth - Yikes about the snowstorm. I know all of you are tougher than me, and deal with snow every year, but that much snow kind of freaks me out.
HB - I'm glad your mom gets to come home today (and hopefully she did).
tigersmom - I hope you like the book! It's so well done … I think it won a Locus award some years ago, and was a finalist for a Hugo and a Nebula. I enjoyed the fantasy elements, and I also enjoyed learning about NYC through that lens.
Lorita - I dimly remember Sha Na Na, but I've never heard of Bowser.
Now I'm off to go make cookies. 🙂

My friend is picking up the pieces of her life after her van and purse were stolen.
HB, is your mom supposed to use the supplemental oxygen all the time or as needed? She does not appear to be aware of her hypoxia.
Carl, how was Golden Corral? There has been one near me for many years but I've never been. I've been to one out of town, though.
I vaguely remember Sha Na Na. I listened to a Beatles song at the supermarket today, and it brought back such great memories of my youth!
Good night.

@Iris L.
Mom and the oxygen. For now, she is meant to be on it 24/7 until we re-evaluate with her pulmo in ~2 weeks.
In addition to the COPD and asthma, she's always been a bit of a dysfunctional breather. She tends to be a shallow mouth breather, and she also holds her breath when focused on something which looks a bit like sleep apnea. She rarely reports being SOB and denies it when she obviously is. We've tried teaching and modeling "how to breath" but it doesn't stick.
My concern is that she doesn't see the bigger picture. Despite her education, she is blissfully ignorant of anything to do with health. She sees various specialists for her many conditions, but she fails to understand how the individual pieces go together. To her, the O2 level is a "lung thing" while I'm concerned about delivering oxygen to her heart (CHF, pulmonary hypertension, CAD), brain and optic nerves (she already damaged one optic nerve and is legally blind on that side with a 30% lifetime risk to the other).I have to go to the ATM today, so I'll stop by unannounced to see if she's behaving herself.

Iris, I don't much like Golden Corral. I always eat too much at buffets, for one thing, and only about six things offered at GC are at all healthy. DS loves the place and it was his birthday, so I took him there.
I loved the Sha Na Na TV show. I remember one night Olivia Newton-John was a guest star, and she was telling the regulars she was afraid her reputation would suffer if she was seen with them. Funny! And I love doo wop music. Doo wop reminds me of dancing with high school girls. The Beatles remind me of high school too, and college. I never hear "Hey Jude" without thinking of the Hibachi Hut, home of great grilled steaks and sausages and the coldest beer in Manhattan, Kansas.
Iris, I'm just glad your friend wasn't injured. She can get another car and purse. I was robbed at gunpoint once. I only lost about $40, but it was still traumatic.
Smart people can make really dumb choices about their health. My brother's late GF was diabetic, and her idea of managing it was to skip breakfast and lunch, then eat a huge bag of potato chips in the evening. She taught comparative religion in a college and was quite intelligent except with respect to her health.

Motning, cloudy windy and cold even though it's 48. The.big cold front is in our panhandle now. There were wind Gusts last night of 51 mph.
I think Bowser sang with She Na Na .if I remember correctly. I don't know any singing groups.now and.certainly no songs. One of our favorite singers was Roy Robison and we got to see him once with Conway Twitty. Iris, I loved the Beatles even wore my hair like them for a while. Still my favorite group.
The wind is really howling. Norh.of here is already in the thirties.

And the bath faucet came off in DH's hand as he was brushing his teeth.
I swear this house hates me.1 -
11 people in the house…only two slept here. They cooked…they cooked…they cooked. They somehow had troubke finding the trash can. They were soooo loud.
Yesterday we went bowling. My daughter's MIL (90) went too and kept asking who all the 14 people were in the 2 lane roome we had rented for 2 hours. Then she wanted to know how long we had to stay and so forth. I used all the memory skills I had learned here! I actually enjoy being with her so it was fine.
The New Yorkers flew out at 6. The 2 who slept here broke the french door lock and managed to lock their bathroom door from the outside. I have no idea when the car leqaves for St Louis.
All will be quiet tomorrow and I will slowly put my house back together Oh, they have just reported that something is wrong with the toilet and my ovens.
I am reminded of " All and all Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"….lol

Sounds like you had an eventful few days, Judith. When we are used to living alone, having guests is different.

good afternoon

Bad neighborhoods reminded me of my old home in Shreveport. I believe this was mentioned before, about buying the house next door to the one I grew up in. Lou and I raised our sons there and lived in the house for 26 years before we finally had to move. Should have moved sooner, but I was to stubborn and wasn’t going to be scared away from my neighborhood. The first 15 to 20 years were good, then in became a living hell. Thugs walking down the street shooting lamp post lights out, vehicles being broken into and stolen, drug addicts knocking on the door all hours trying to sell you something they stole. One guy knocked on the door at 1 in the morning with a bullet in his leg; I gave him a towel to wrap his leg and had him sit on the porch while I called 911. When I finally moved was when they found a dead woman in the trunk of a car parked in the street next to my house. I hate it when decent neighbors die and next of kin sell the home to anyone.
I’ve been eating to much the past few days, I had a bad night last night and my bed looked like I had a wrestling match in it last night. Had a lots of rain and still raining some. I just hope the weather stays clear of to much ice and snow until after my MRI Tuesday morning. My son told me they keep hwy 65 pretty clear but the problem is always getting off of this mountain.

Ron, that sounds so scary. It was time to move. Neighborhoods never stay the same.
Just put ingredients in to make a fresh loaf of bread. That bread maker gets a workout!

Good morning.
Lorita, how nice to have fresh homemade bread!
Ron, I hear you about the change in neighborhoods. But like Lorita says, neighborhoods change. You've found a nice one out in the country.
Carl, what an awful experience for you! My mom used to tell about coming home from Harlem to Brooklyn at night on the subway with her friends after seeing a show, they had no fear because the subways and streets were safe for young ladies back then in the 1940s. People didn't lock their doors.
HB, you have your caregiving work cut out for you.
Judith, you are strong to have all of those visitors in your home. Now to recuperate!
The weather is still mild today. I'm going out to an activity at the library. So long.

What happened to Carl?

I was robbed by three teenagers with a pistol about 35 years ago, while I was unloading groceries in front of my house. I lived in a nice neighborhood, but these were punks roaming the streets in a van looking for drug money. The drug epidemic is the main reason the streets aren't safe anymore.

Was that where you IIve now, Carl? I can only imagine how frightening that was and how angry it made you. Glad you are okay.
I just watched a program about Mount Rushmore and how they made it. I wish Charles and I had driven up to see it and Devil's Tower. Too late now.
Good night, everyone.

Lorita, it was in Kansas City, but it could have been anywhere in the country.
0 -
Lorita, I will be visiting Mount Rushmore with my travel club next summer.
Carl, you're right, thugs roam around searching for targets in all areas. And you're right again, illicit drugs are a cancer on our society. Also the breakdown of families contributes to crime.
The sewing project at the library today was a detachable collar. It took me three hours to put together, but I did it, yea for me!
It's getting late. Good night.

Good morning, left water dripping and still froze, was ok at 1 this morning. Guess I’ll be going to families house when my needs call. If I had a outhouse like my country relatives had when I was growing up, I wouldn’t have a problem. I’m glad I don’t have an outhouse and would rather deal with the problem and not the spiders and hornet nest. One of my rich relatives had a double seater and had plans for a triple. I can hear it now; Carl I’ve already finished, can you pass me one of the catalogs? LOL For the rockers that have never been in a outhouse, especially at night, you don’t know what you missed.

Cold and drizzly here today but it's snowing at the moment.
Iris— The collar turned out nicely. I like the print— it reminds me of a dressing gown I had back in my Laura Ashley era.
Ron— Heading into a warm house to do one's business sounds better than an outhouse any time. I haven't used an actual outhouse since I was about 6 and at my aunt's place in Maine before she had a bathroom installed. In scouting I have made use of all manner of options in all manner of weather. It gives one an appreciation of indoor facilities.
Lorita— My MIL always wanted to go to Mt. Rushmore but never made it. After she raised her sons, she and a band of 3 other schoolteachers road tripped every summer but never quite made it there.
Carl— That must've been a terrible experience. I once almost had a purse snatched in the underground tunnel that ran between the Broad Street Subway and North Philadelphia Rail Station. It was a dumb place to be.

Mom seemed to be behaving herself when I dropped in yesterday. She'd had a nice shower and was watching some nonsense on HGTV while wearing her O2. She'll see her PCP tomorrow and then I'll take her for a haircut Tuesday. Maybe a pedi if she's up for it.
I hope all have a pleasant day.

Iris, that IS a nice collar. DW loved to sew, she would have liked that a lot and made a white dress to go with it.
HB, glad your mother is taking care of herself. Hope you have a pleasant day too.
Judith, I hear you about house guests. I had DS for one night and it reminded me why I like living alone.
Ron, outhouses are why chamber pots were invented. Those double seaters are called "two-holers" here in the Ozarks. Just don't use the catalog pages with the women's underwear, that was our Playboy back in the day.
DW and I went to Mt. Rushmore many years ago. We slept in a tent, woke early, and saw the monument in the light of the morning sun with almost no one else around. It was beautiful.
I was a big fan of Roy Orbison too. His song "Pretty Woman" inspired a movie title and a really good TV ad for tennis shoes or some such.
It is cold out there. The dashboard thermometer read 28 when I was filling the gas tank and enjoying the north wind at 8 AM and read 24 when I returned home at 9:30. D at the diner said her husband was driving his semi in Nebraska today, and he had jackknifed twice in the snow. No snow here yet, but it's pretty bad north of the Missouri river.

Good morning.
I awoke to a giant spider on my stair landing, I managed to knock it to the ground. I hope it doesn't crawl back up here to the second floor.
Ron, I've seen online that some campers or tiny homes have composting toilets. I agree, it's no fun going outside when nature calls.
HB, I'm glad your mom is adapting to her supplemental oxygen.
It was foggy and cold this morning. I'll stay in today, I got only 4 hours of sleep.

Iris, the collar you made is beautiful! Good job!

Carl - The closest I've ever been to a Golden Corral is a commercial I saw for it on TV. Had it not been for the commercial, I wouldn't have known they exist. I'm not judging, I'd just never heard of them.
I'm going to speak heresy now —— I'm not a big Beatles fan. 😱 There's a couple of their songs I like, like …. I Am the Walrus (what drugs were they on for that one?), and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. That said, I fully acknowledge their greatness, and their huge influence on bands that came after them. I can even hear their influence in many of the gothic bands I listen to today.
Our weather is cold, but not that cold - yet. We're sitting at 45 degrees right now, and it's getting into the low 30s at night. We have a bit of sun right now - and a week of rain heading our way.
Iris - that collar came out so well! Very pretty.
As for me, we've had a pretty relaxing holiday weekend. We went nowhere and did nothing. 🙂 I was so happy we did our thanksgiving last weekend so that we wouldn't have to get out in the craziness this weekend. I'm feeling like I'm ready for the upcoming week.

Love the collar, Iris. I remember back in 1960 we wore pretty dollars IIke that with our sweaters. In fact I borrowed from a friend a white fur one with pearls to wear to have my senior picture made .
Carl, I remember the trips at night and in the cold to the outhouse. You know the catalogs served two purposes- you had something to read or look at, then the other purpose. We didn't have an inside bathroom until I was about eleven. My daddy still went to the outhouse for a long time. Grandma had one of those chambers.
I just took down the trash and it is cold ,- mid thirties with WC of 28, cold, North wind. Freezing rain with some snow tomorrow morning. Again on Thursday. So glad the barn is closed for the girls and babies.
Ron, do you leave a stream of hot and cold water running? I do especially in the kitchen which is on the north side and I turn on a small electric stove to warm under the sink. Better go out and take the water hose off.

Gumbo with turkey left over and sausage for supper.

Love the Beatles, but give me the Stones. Stones have been together 63 years. Beatles were together for 6.
