Judith, the First Americans Museum looks fascinating! I would like to visit if I ever get to Oklahoma City.

Congrats on getting your desk clear. What an accomplishment!

Lorita, when I was in Oklahoma with my travel club, we visited the Will Rogers Museum. We have a Will Rogers State Park in the Malibu area. The 31 room house and other structures were destroyed by the Pacific Palisades fire of last year. Fortunately, all the horses were saved. The park recently reopened to the public after extensive work.

Carl and Lorita, I've been spoiled by fresh corn on the cob. I cook mine in the microwave but no longer with butter, because I'm a butter-holic!

Goodlife, my downstairs neighbor and I each bought a potted ficus years ago. Hers was planted into the ground and grew so tall it began to cover my living room window on the second floor. I was always after her to trim it. Finally she removed it and planted a smaller plant, although that one is now up to my window, but there is only one stalk, so it doesn't obstruct my view. The focus that I had in a pot lived for a few years, but all the leaves kept falling off, and it eventually succumbed.

GG, it's nice that you visit Cantor's when you come to LA. It is so reminiscent of NY and Brooklyn! Sadly, most of the stores around Csntor's are vacant. Many stores never recovered after the shutdowns during the pandemic days. But the Original Farmer's Market is thriving. And it's next to The Grove, if you're into shopping for high-end goods.

Ron - I'm glad you've got some ointment for your rash. I hope it does the trick.

Judith - getting a desk cleared is such a good feeling. I'm working on the same - haven't finished yet.

Lorita - I'm with Goodlife. I really enjoy hearing about your farm. Being mostly an urban girl, I have no experience with farms, what it takes to run one, or how to take care of farm animals, so I learn a lot from you. You write so well about it, I can almost imagine the rhythm of your life. Don't stop.

Iris - I've only been to NYC a few times, but my s.o. is from the east coast and spent a lot of time there. The times I've been there, I've there with him, and he toured me around. I remember going to the Carnegie Deli back in the day, and I was reminded of Canter's. My favorite place in NYC is the American Museum of Natural History. The first time I went there, we spent more than two hours in the dinosaur halls. I could have been there for a lot longer. 😄

Nice day today in the PNW. Sunny, mid-70s. It's supposed to be nice all next week — I'm ready for it!

I got all of my chores done today, so tomorrow will be a restful one for me.

    Good morning!

Lorita, I enjoy hearing about your farm life - as I do also enjoy hearing about the city life from Iris, HB, Judith. Nanny, I also enjoy hearing about your farm life.

I'm neither a city nor country girl. I was raised in a town with a population of 400. I had a horse barn and pasture but it wasn't attached to our house. It was a few blocks away. A year ago, I was in that small town and walked up to where the pasture was. There are now 2 houses there, which I was aware of. The barn is still there. I spoke briefly with a homeowner and he said the names of the horses are still written in the barn. I don't remember writing them there but I must have. The barn had one stall, a tack and feed room and a hayloft. There was a well with an old fashioned pump beside the barn. The pump is still there.

I'm a suburban girl now - living in a fast-growing town of 10,000. The view out my backyard July 10. My, it was gorgeous!

    Have a good week! Beth

Good morning. A quiet day here today ahead of a 3-appointment week. Sunny and warm today but without the humidity.

Lorita— I wonder if there are folks who drive for Uber in your area or perhaps medical transport. Cataract surgery would require a pre-op visit, then a surgery date for each eye about 2 weeks apart. DH's surgeon wanted to see him the day after each procedure and didn't clear him to drive until a full week after the second surgery. He also had to see his DO about a month after the 2nd procedure. This is to say, you'd need more assistance than just a single ride to the doctor. Dh would say it was worth doing.

Iris— I'm glad Cantor's was good. It can be hard to find a good Jewish deli outside of the NYC metro area. We have a couple of reliably good delis near me, but when we were visiting my in-laws in Myrtle Beach my SIL overheard DH and a friend raving about the Carnegie Deli and swore she knew a place that was "amazing". Bless her heart. It was the worst meal I think I've ever eaten and the pastrami DH ordered looked even worse than mine. I was kind of salty as I was hoping for some fresh seafood— she claims to be allergic to all fish.

That was some fancy cigarette machine. The main branch of our county library has one retrofitted to dispense little art pieces as a fund raiser.

Eaglemom— I'm glad you got your internet service back. I agree, the heat is likely a factor and not a coincidence. Could it be impacted by brown-outs?

Carl— Lucky you to be enjoying the fruits of the neighbor's garden. Especially with all the talk of risky produce. I had promised to make a green salad for yesterday's party and ended up getting all hydroponic lettuces so as not to make anyone sick. It was funny, I brought a lovely homemade vinaigrette and bottled ranch. Ranch was the more popular of the two.

Nanny G— Did you ever circle back for the chair that caught your eye?

Well done you for taking on Arlington without a lawyer. I have found as I've reached a certain age that colonoscopy prep options are a common topic of conversation.

Gothic G— That game looks like something my DH would enjoy. We had a friend who used to host game nights, but she moved and it's been years since we've even played Rummy.

Judith— I was kind of sorry to see Norway eliminated. They have a fun fanbase. DH and I had a rare Saturday night without DS or other plans. We avoided our usual pub as the bar would be crowded with the game and ended up at a pizza joint. The staff are all from Mexico and Central America and they always have futbol playing. Last night they were so into it they forgot our soup order twice— it's all good the match was exciting and the soup was great when it showed up as dessert.

Goodlife— I am impressed that you have been able to keep a Ficus alive long enough to report it. I love the look but have managed to slaughter any that have crossed my threshold.

Ron— I hope you're leg is responding well to the medication.

    Beth— That's a gorgeous shot.

My godchild's twins had their 1st birthday party yesterday. They're incredibly easy-going little ones and they did amazingly well with the festivities. I was very gratified that they seemed to really enjoy the gifts I got them— a toddler-sized Radio Flyer wagon with gardening tools and a little shopping cart with toy food.

There was much drama running in the background. Paternal grandfather was hospitalized with liver issues/change of mental status. He's not been taking his lactulose as prescribed. His 2nd wife, who has severe joint issues and depression, crashed and burned Friday afternoon and ended up admitted at a different hospital. It sounds like she may have had a psychotic break after 3 days without sleep. The maternal grandmother/party host (my friend) had her regularly scheduled IVIG infusion at home and had a reaction that included chest pain/spasms, hives and limb weakness. She ended up being transported to a 3rd hospital. Luckily, they sorted her out quickly and she was home in time for a late dinner. I feel so badly for my god daughter right now— it's a lot to have on her plate.

Scotland and Norway were the only. interesting teams. What a joy it was to have them in our country.

My Ficus trees are indoor only. I think my "new" pots are slightly bigget so I will need to get "soil'. Then hopefully the grandsons can transplant. I will google.

I guess it rained here last night. There is a tell-tail puddle on the flat room of the sun room.

It will be interesting to follow SC after the death of Lindsey Graham. He was a force to be dealt with for many years.

    Good morning.

    Beth, how nice and peaceful!

My brother lives in the second largest co-op in the country, with 25,000 homeowners. My own condo complex was one of the largest when it was built in 1960, at 100 units. But nowadays, there are many complexes that are much larger. We are so fortunate here that there is so much diversity in housing situations.

GG and HB, Cantor's Deli had New York-style cheesecake, which I craved, but the weather was too hot to take home on the Metro. Now that I know how to get there, I might have to make a special trip just for a slice of cheesecake! Yum!

It's cool today, 75 degrees. I hope it holds. Wednesday, July 15th, will be National Hot Dog Day. I'm ftom Brooklyn, where Nedick's and Nathan's were famous. My mouth is already watering! There are so many variations, but I like a plain dog, which we called a frankfurter, with just ketchup, no mustard.

Thanks, guys, will try to.not bore you too much.

Beth, the picture is beautiful. Reflections in ponds make for pretty pictures. I see the moonrise and sunrises reflected in our biggest pond but don't see the sunsets because of trees, unless I go out in the pastures.

HB, no Uber's here but there is KATZ but Triad his 25 miles away and I doubt the trip would be comfortable- they use mostly vans.

Had big thunderstorms last night and some rain. Mike was out checking cows and he said we had more rain that he had. Darwin thinks lightning struck a power pole across from his.house last night but no damage just a big flash of light.

I couldn't find Max this morning. I keep Lilly and Sammy in the north side of the.House and Max in the bedroom because Sammy.jumps onto Max. I.hunted and called, inside and out but no answer. Finally got down on the floor by the bed and didn't see.him...Did it again and saw him.. Grabbed his tail.but he got away. Later saw him under the bed and pulled him out. His ear feels damaged so something happened. Finally got him to eat.but just checked and he is back under the bed.. Hard to get down on floor and hard to.get up. Wouldn't that have been a pretty picture if I had called Darwin to help- an 87 year old helping an 84 year off the floor. I.didn't hear anything so maybe the thunder scared him but what about his ear? Need to take down the trash so will be back later.

Max seems sore, doesn't want to move around much. He must have been in been a fight with Sammy

Snake story - Darwin called a while ago to tell me about a snake his wife saw on their closed in back porch. He said it was a black snake so he picked it up by its tail and took it outside. Scared her but he knew what kind it was. He said it was the second snake he has seen this year. There wss a little hole at the.bottom of the door where it squeezed in.

Hope all.of you had a good Sunday. Sleep well tonight

Lorita, your stories are never boring! Especially stories about picking up snakes by the tail. Wow, that's an image for me to fall asleep by. I get antsy when I see a spider. I want to say I don't know how you all live like that, but I know you country folk grow up with critters and creatures so you aren't skittish around them, like me.

Ron, your place looks great! You have just what you need. I hope you'll be very comfortable there.

Iris, you are lucky in that in your area there are many plants you can grow outdoors that we can only have if they are in pots and if lucky we can have outside during the mild spring and fall but need to be indoors for the winter and summer. It was 106 degrees today. The only time I see a ficus as big as your neighbors is in an office two-story atrium.

Beth what a beautiful picture. You have great views around your pond and I would love having water so close by. Colorado is on fire so sunsets and rises have been especially colorful this past couple of weeks but hard to enjoy when the smoke burns your nose and we can't see the mountains that are only 45 miles from us.

GG - ficus trees are always losing their leaves. I find a few each week, annoying but I've learned it doesn't mean the plant is really dying just a little unhappy. For me it is the lighting which in Washington is always an issue for houseplants. My sister in Lacey jokes that she, her cats, and plants all fight for that one sliver of sunlight you all get weekly. 🤣

Ron - your place looks nice and half the fun for me would be imagining all the ways I could fix it up and make it mine.

Good morning. A busy-ish week here. I need to pay a couple of bills and drop them at the P.O. on my way to mom's before taking her to see her psychiatrist. How is it the 13th already???

I'm debating leaving a message for the psych as mom's been more fretful that usual as she's unable to get around independently and her resentment at her POC continues. The problem is that mom is often a lousy reporter as she slips into "Little Engine That Could" mode when asked how's she's doing as if saying "not good" would insult the doctor. I attend almost all appointments and give my observations, but she needs the psych's office to be a place where she can speak freely so I wait outside. The psych has invited me to speak to her if I have any concerns which is nice.

I hope all have a good day.

Morning, beautiful morning in Eastern Oklahoma - to.be in low 90s today..

Ron, I just now saw the pictures of your apartment. How.nice it looks. I hope you will.be happy there..

Iris, bugs and snakes are two things I do.not like. Yesterday I was in the pantry and saw a huge spider. I got the fly swatter but he was in a hard to.get to.place so missed him. That makes two big spiders in the house I know about. Years ago.one.bit me on the front of my thigh during the night. It kept swelling to the point I.felt I needed to.hold it so.it wouldn't fall.down. Went to the ER don't remember what they did. Luckily it wasn't poisonous.

You all enjoy the day.. Back later.

    Good morning.

We had rain overnight, 3 inches. I don't recall it being predicted, but I'll take it. The only downside is we lost power. When the ceiling fan stops, the reclining bed going into "flat" mode without touching the remote, DH's CPAP stops and the music stop all at once its a lot to quickly adjust to quickly. Plus the room being totally dark. I quickly got my wits about me and realized the power was off, calmed DH down who kept says "what's happening" and realized if I turn on a flashlight he'll settle down. I put the flashlight on the nightstand, propped him up with several pillows and he was back asleep within 5 minutes! Thankfully the power came back on with 45 minutes. Now the wonderful part, its 79. We've not had this temp in two months! Its refreshing. I'll catch up with everyone in a bit, I'm heading to the patio with my tea to enjoy not being hot.

    Let's be safe everyone.

It's still overcast today, it feels so nice and comfortable.

For you gardeners: the Huntinton Arboretum will be exhibiting two corpse flowers, both are blooming tight now. The odor of the bloom is of rotting flesh, said to attract the flies that pollinate it. Here is an article. There are videos online, but unfortunately (or fortunately) no smell-o-vision. Pair of Corpse Flowers begin blooming at The Huntington in San Marino – now’s your chance to see, and smell, them – Pasadena Star News https://share.google/6O50kzdrHKF4h5DHx

Beth - What a gorgeous photo! You should get a print made of it and put it up somewhere.

HB - To be honest, I didn't get the allure of the Carnegie Deli - but then again, I'm sure that's the Californian in me. I found the food there kind of overwhelming. Like, I had a bagel and cream cheese there once, and I swear to you, they put the entire container of cream cheese on that bagel - probably 8 oz. of that stuff. I was overwhelmed. And I only ate less than 1 oz. of it it.

Take Time is the type of game that you can pick up and put down, for what its worth. From what I understand (from reviews) is that no one plays it straight through.

I hope things go well with your mom this week.

Ron - Your apartment looks very manageable. I'm glad you're happy and comfortable there.

Goodlife - the light in Washington still trips me up. Next month there will be too many days where it all just looks wrong to me - the angles are wrong. I never really noticed the light when I lived in California, it was somewhat different in the winter and summer, but not wildly so. Here, it is.

Lorita - I've been known to kill black widow spiders, but the harmless ones I rescue and take outside. I've never run into a snake anywhere where I've lived. But, there is one bug that I just can't abide. Just the thought of it grosses me out. I'm not even going to say what it is for fear that I might see a photo of it (like on wikipedia or something).

eaglemom - I'm glad it's cooled down enough for you to enjoy a cup of tea.

The gym was good this morning - I really like the feeling I get when I walk out the door. No, not because I'm leaving, but that feeling - almost a runner's high.

Then some adulting, bills to pay and stuff. Then, I found a website last night that I wanted to explore. It's called wordorigins.org . If you like the origins of words, slang, dialects, etc., you will probably enjoy this site. I got lost in that site for awhile late this afternoon.

Lorita, the corpse flower used to bloom every 3-4 years, but the biranists have gotten the two that they have to bloom every 1-2 years. When it blooms, people come out of the woodwork to see and smell it. It is a giant flower, about two feet tall.

    Time for bed. Good night.

Good morning. Today starts another heat wave with dangerous temps tomorrow. Blech.

Gothic G— I agree with food at such delis tends to be overwhelming and wasteful if you're traveling and can't take a doggie bag.

You might enjoy this NPR offering—

Ron— Thanks for sharing. It's a lovely unit and very HGTV updated. I love the balcony. The apartment I had before I met DH had no outdoor space and I really missed it.

Eaglemom— Maybe you should get a generator because of the CPap. I've been trying to convince mom to get one. She has natural gas, so it would be not a huge deal.

Iris— I'll pass on the stinky flowers.

Judith— It's it refreshing when a customer service agent actually solves and issue for you?

    ____________________________________________________

I see the dentist at 11. Call me a cynic, but I'm wondering what "area of concern" and "procedure" he'll pitch this time.

Mom seems to have done exactly as I expected with the psych. She went in and painted a rosy picture of how well she's doing. The doc gave consensus. Mom gave her $200 and we scheduled her next session for October.

I hope all have a good one.
