Caregiver Daughter in Miami

Hello,
I am a 42 yr. old female and I care for my 79 yr. old father with mild Alzheimer's/dementia. Mom passed away June 2023 and it has became so much harder. I am trying me best to take care of him, but he's mood swings, the repetitiveness, etc, are frustrating. Wondering if through here I can have some ideas, books I can read, forms I can read/join to better take care of him and better understand this disease.

    Hello Jenn,

Bless you for being a caregiver daugher. The ALZ connected website actually has good information about Alzheimer's.

    I'm putting the link below:

    https://www.alz.org/help-support/resources/care-education-resources

There's also another page they have around the topic of education, its link is here:

    https://www.alz.org/help-support/caregiving

Lastly, in Miami there are several real-life in-person Alzheimer's support groups. You may be able to get some feedback from other lady caregivers who have gone through sometime similar. If you call the Alz 1800 number, they can put you in touch with the coordinator who runs the support group so you can find out how to join.

Being a lady taking care of a man with Alz is hard. You might want to also call the Alliance for Aging in Miami (Google for number) and see what they advise. They may have options and assistance for someone in your predicament.

Best of luck to you and your dad.
