Glad you're okay, Judith. Going to watch Jesse Stone, Sandy and go to bed. Might check on the vote first. Good night, everyone.

JeriLynn - I'm blinded by the cuteness of those baby goats! A friend of mine used to raise goats, and there were always babies running around. So cute.
Zetta - "When you get old, it's hard to believe you're old." Isn't that the truth?! It's like, "when did that happen?"
HB - So much hemming. Almost everything I buy has to be hemmed. I loved your son's anatomy class horror. I took anatomy and physiology in college and loved that class. But, being of a similar "old school" vintage, we also had books. I still have my Grey's Anatomy coloring book (great for memorization, and it was just fun).
For all of you with snow - I'm sorry. I'm a weather wimp, so the mere thought of snow fills me with dread. Yesterday I had to be out and about, and when I opened the door it was like walking into a refrigerator. It was 31 degrees out. No snow, thankfully, but really, really cold.
And speaking of snow …… my husband and I have decided to take a trip to Fairbanks, AK in March. In the snow. That I hate. But - it turns out that March is the best month to go if you want to go chasing after auroras. We are both intrigued. Seeing an aurora was always a bucket list item for me, and in May, Sept., and Oct. we got to see some! I was giddy with excitement. My phone camera is packed with photos. So, off we go in search of more auroras. I'll make sure to have my real camera with me for this trip.

Good morning.
Lady Zetta— Yeah, the dentist will remove the fixed dentures and clean them ultrasonically and inspect the health of your gums and the rest of your mouth.
Ron— I'm so glad you'll be getting the POC. I think you'll find it improves things for you as you go about your day. Mom's came with a shoulder strap. If she wears it crossbody, it leaves her hands free. My friend's husband wore his in a backpack which I think makes more sense.
Jerilynn— Safe travels. What a trip this has been. Yikes! Losing your little goat and now your granddaughter almost torching the house while the dog pulls a Van Gogh on himself. Not much of a break for you at all.
Gothic G— That should be a great trip. There's a youtuber my DH likes "Emma Cruises" who did an aurora cruise in Europe that was interesting. LOL, he has that coloring book, too. He's been fussing at DS to be careful with the dissection kit. He's a generally anxious person, but I'd put the odds of stitches at 50% at the moment.

The hospital saga continues. Mother thought she could go home last night. Her hospitalist signed off on her for today, but after I left infectious disease & pulmo changed the plan to potentially Monday. They're going to watch her chest and breathing. If she's improving, she'll wean to oral steroids and go home with a PICC line for self-administered Ancef.
I expect this to be a challenge. Her vision is terrible. She has no depth perception; she doesn't always see colors and her central field can be iffy because of the AMD. Add in essential tremor worsened by steroids and things are bordering on a Mr. Bean skit.

Good morning my porch friends. Beautiful pic JeriLynn. Safe travels. You need to get home to rest up. The baby goat pics are cute.
HB you are indeed in a hospital saga. You are a good daughter to your mamma.
We had excitement here yesterday. I was in my closet getting ready to change clothes (a very rare spur of the moment meeting friends for dinner) and I heard an awful crashing sound. I grabbed my shoes shoving my feet in them, grabbed my phone and was putting on my coat when a neighbor called with "get out here." A lady was headed down our street (going north, so she's on the right side of the street) and hit a mailbox on the left side of the street and then another mailbox on the left side of the street. She'd gotten out of her car, locked it and was attempting to walk home. Except she really was having trouble standing, didn't know where she was or what street she was on. Our neighbor is a police officer in another suburb, DH went & got him. She said she didn't know what happened. She finally admitted to maybe having "a glass or three" of wine. Our local police attempted to give her several of the sobriety tests, none of which she could even begin to do. When they put handcuffs on her, I don't think she even realized the trouble she was in. Thank the Lord no one was hurt. I have no idea where she'd come from, we are a "dry" county, no alcohol at restaurants.
The crash created quite the rubble mess everywhere. The first mailbox she hit was a huge post stone one, 3ft wide with rebar foundation & rebar up into the stones. The next one was solid brick 2 ft square. He car was totaled and her airbag deployed. I don't think she was aware of any of that. I was outside picking up bricks, stones, glass, etc for quite awhile. DH picked up a few pieces, but he was chatting with neighbors, which was fine.
We did make to our dinner, all be it late. It was ok. I think I was just tired from everything and DH was also. Plus, we were on the end of the table so conversation was difficult. I was glad to get home and cleaned up & in my jammies!!

Another great granddaughter snuggled up with Rascal the oldest baby Billy goat.
We are in Ron’s Louisiana now and will be stopping in Picayune, Mississippi for the night. It’s a beautiful day. Cool but sunny. Driving about 10 hours today will see us home tomorrow evening. Saves a day.

I just had to share this!
I like to read The Guardian (a British online news site), and at the bottom of their site they always have photo galleries on various topics. This gallery is photos taken in the summer of a forest in Japan, and the fireflies. Each photo is more gorgeous than the next. Enjoy!

Those pictures are beautiful, GG. We have a lot of fireflies here during the summer. When I was little we would catch them in jars with holes in the lids. Don't do that anymore.
JeriLynn, your great granddaughter has really found a little friends so cute. Isn't it hard for you when your husband sells them? I always cry some when the cattle truck with our girls in it goes down the drive. You all have really had a different kind of vacation, haven't you? Have a safe trip.home.
It's been a long day. Haven't been out of the yard, just on the porch to feed the birds. I think they know when it's time for me to feed them.
Sleep well tonight.

GG, I think you have just illustrated "romantic goth" very well with those forest pictures. They are hauntingly beautiful.
DW and I went out to see the northern lights last summer, when they were expected to be visible here in Missouri. I drove to a dark place I know in State property, open to the public, and parked in the woods facing north, with a tree blocking the moon. We didn't see the northern lights, but fireflies were flirting with one another with their lights in the open field across the road, and the night birds were singing.

Good morning
Eagle I’m glad no one got hurt in that mess.
Nice pictures JeriLynn. Hope you have a safe trip home today.
I’ve always enjoyed seeing the fireflies at night.0 -
Good morning, I spent the night in the emergency room I had severe pain in my left knee.I have chronic Cellulitis in both of my legs and last night the pain was so severe I was taken to the hospital. After xrays it was determined I had bruised my right leg doing my exercises. I had an ace bandage put on it and said to ice my knee and today the swelling and pain is gone.

JeriLynn, so sorry about the little goat, your sweet dog and the near miss house fire. Glad it was a near miss, though. There are frequent reports of house fires here in Iowa in the cold. Terrifying! You will be glad to be home. I'm sorry your vacation wasn't what you had hoped for.
GG, the photos are lovely! One summer when the Houston grandkids were up here, they were mesmerized by the fireflies (we always used to call them lightning bugs). They said they don't see them where they live.
Yesterday we went to a bag sale at a local thrift store. They gave you a large garbage bag when you walked in (and you could have as many as you wanted) - fill it up, just $10. Hubby and I got a total of 15 items for $10. My other bargain yesterday was a bag of bananas for 99 cents. As you are aware, the peels had spots and black in places and they were not salable. Anyway, I got 16 bananas and they were all perfect inside. I made a banana bread and froze the rest to use for future banana bread or to put on my oatmeal.
Expecting warmer temps here this next week - 40's. That makes me happy. There were reports of two ATVs going through the ice on lakes in NW Iowa this past week. Fortunately no one was injured.
HB, maybe your mom can go to skilled care as long as she needs IV antibiotics. Otherwise, I suspect you'll be going to her house twice a day to administer it.
Beth

beautiful road…where is the Kudzo?

David sorry, know cellulitis can be a trial to bear.
Beth I’m starting to have time to go back to the thrift stores too. I went the last two Saturdays. Yesterday I got one small dish made by Mikasa. I have picked up several of their dishes at the Thrift store. They appealed to me for some reason they are made in Japan. We called them lightning bugs also.1 -
Lightnin' bugs here, too! JeriLynn, the picture of the road reminds me of roads in Arkansas and NE of here . Makes me feel relaxed and calm. Last night on the TV show -'Emergency they were treating an African Pigmy goat. Reminded me of your little ones.
HB, this tablet is changing every thing I type so you all may have to read between the lines.
Cloudy, cold and flat out windy here this morning. Fed the birds this morning and almost froze.

Lorita don't forget the Chief's play @ 5:30 today. It's going to be a good game for sure.
Cloudy, cold, damp and very foggy here. Very odd.
David I'm guessing today and tomorrow will be resting up from the ER visit. Sorry you had to go through that.
I've got zero energy today, as in none. That's very rare for me, I'm usually going a mile a minute. There is nothing wrong with having a slow day - that's what I'm telling myself at least!
Let's be safe everyone.

I spent today resting and tommorow but on Tuesday I have all kinds of tests so I can finally meet my primary care physician.

Eagle, it's cold and cloudy here. WC is 33. Took down the trash and went over to Darwin's to take them some Jimmy the.Bakers.loaf cakes. Forgot to get the mail so had to go.back down. My hands were so cold when I got back.
Talked briefly to Mike. Asked him if they lost any.babies in the cold. He said last evening a cow calved behind the clinic where he has some cattle. An hour befote dark the baby was okay but this morning they found a coyote or dog had gotten the baby. I would have thought the cows would have protected it better. This spring something got a calf here. One reason we always kept the mom and her new baby up for a week or so.
Watching Washington and Philadelphia playing. Eagles are ahead. Some ill feelings between the teams. Hope the Eagles win. Ready to watch the Chiefs after this one. I think I mentioned that Jalen Hurts, QB for the Eagles was a QB for the Okla. Sooners and was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. Back later

Good afternoon all.
Eaglemom— Yikes. What a mess. I lost a mailbox to a drunk at my old house. Mine was on foot, stumbled and used it to break his fall. One of my other neighbors saw it happen. My neighbor at this house backed into my mailbox trying to get around his wife's car instead of moving it. We're on a cul de sac and our drives are only 3' apart where they meet the street. He did attempt to fix it but it's going to need replacing anyway.
Jerilynn— Great pictures. A lovely sunrise and cute kids.
David— I'm glad the ice did the trick.
Gothic G— They're lightening bugs around these parts as well. The night before our wedding, my kitten ate a lightening bug. It disagreed with him and he threw it up. The vomit glowed intermittently for almost an hour. DH, a scientist, was eager to explain the chemistry behind this to me. That man knows how to impress a girl. I still married him.
The pictures are stunning. That area is near a research facility where DH worked on a joint venture. He used to travel there several times a year and said the area is beautiful.
Lorita— I was thinking of you this morning. I'm part of a group of moms from around the country whose sons all have high functioning ASD. She mentioned getting her younger boy ready to leave for a year teaching English in Turkey and meant to say "Getting ready to ship Aydin to Turkey" but we all saw "Getting ready to ship Biden to Turkey".
Beth— I wish I could have mom do some time in a SNF for her medication and a little PT. But right now they're packed with people coming off hospitalizations for flu, RSV and COVID. Given the state of her lungs and immune system, congregate living would be too dangerous right now.
I hope they can switch her to having the medication twice daily instead of 3 times. I did IV abx for 10 days back when it was a newfangled thing. Mine ran with saline every 6 hours. I didn't get much sleep. Her nurse said the syringes are all prefilled and go right into the PICC. That should be simpler.
_______________________________________________________________________________
Mom was a bit less combative today. The cat was under the bed and surly. Mom's new roommate is challenging. She's not an English speaker. I don't know if she has delirium, dementia or a hearing loss but her family was all with her this afternoon and shouting at her. After they all left, she became agitated and banged on her tray table with the phone. The nurse called the daughter who returned and that stopped. Mom says she banged the phone most of the night.
I left her with the Philadelphia-Washington game on and hours of Rick Steves loaded to her iPad.
DH sees his PCP tomorrow, so I will need to work her ride home around that.

Good afternoon.
Lorita, so sad something got to the calf. Do their mama's get ran off?
Beth, good deal at the thrift store, $10.00 for as much as you can get in a bag, 😁 my daughter and I went to a Goodwill store yesterday, she found a small cooking pan, that normally goes for $50.00, she got for $7.00 and it looked brand new.
David, sorry you had to go to ER, but glad things are improving, it's nice you will be meeting up with your doctor. Wonderful surprised you're wife showing up for lunch.
Eaglemom. Iam so glad the lady that had that wine, did not do more damage, like run over someone. I hope you enjoyed your dinner, you deserve a good dinner out. , I know you enjoyed getting home and in your jammies. That's my favorite time of the day, getting ready for bed.
GG. Those pictures were just beautiful 😍 thank you for sharing.
HB. Sounds like your mother is not recovering fast. She's in my prayers. It's sad when a person is in the hospital, and not getting the rest they need. Does the hospital have a cat that visits the rooms? Is that what was under her bed.
JeriLynn. Your in my prayers for a safe trip home. How is your dogs ear? Everyone at your house, will be so glad when you get home. I bet your nerves are frazzled, just plan a day to totally relax, if that's possible.
Hugs to all, my porch friends. Zetta

We are home safe and sound! We’ll deal with dogs, fences, goats and begin unloading the RV tomorrow 😂. Thank you for your prayers for getting home and listening to my whining the whole time we were away. ❤️

Eagle, what a game! Kept me on the edge of my chair until the last minute. Now for the Eagles and a threepeat. Did not realize Mahomes is 6'2'.I've been watching the Chiefs for 59 years when they played in the first Superbowl and lost to the Packers. Lennie Dawson was the quarterback and Hank Steam was their coach.
Zetta, I would imagine the vow would protect her baby unless she was.a first time mom or there was more than one of whatever it was. Cows are very.protective of their calves. A couple of years ago Toad found a calf up in a tree where some kind of big cat had stored it. That was about half a.mile from us. All kinds of things out there.
Glad you're home safe and sound, JeriLynn

wow the fireflies are just amazing…..I’ve only ever seen them in a cave in New Zealand, and that was with difficulty, as I can’t look directly at things in the dark and only see the peripheral vision, so didn’t get the full effect.
We’re still house sitting but it finishes this week. The place we are staying is 6 acres and surrounded by bush and in the evening dozens of kangaroos come out to feed on the grass around the lake near the house, I’ll miss the view from here. Apart from the Roos there are lots of birds that we don’t see at home, blue wrens, fantails, red cheek finches, plus the normal cockatoos, kookaburras etc. it really is a beautiful spot to be.I’ve spent a lot of my time painting and have done 50 tiny paintings for the children from the local primary school. We belong to a pen pal group and I include these with my first letter to them each year. They’re no masterpieces, as I’m completely self taught, but 6&7 yr olds don’t know that 😉.
Great to hear from you Barbara, love your crocheting.
