Hello, Porchers.
David, have fun at Hooters, please let us know how you enjoyed your time. Sounds like you are becoming a high roller at Bingo.
Mint and HB, how are you mothers today? They have been in my prayers.
Lorita, I was always too lazy to bath Molly, it was easier to take her to the groomer. And of course there is always the extra things they do. Now that I'm in Arizona, I take advantage of my Daughters, groomer, they come right to your house In a grooming van, and take your dog out to the van. I'm going to see if my daughter can attach the picture of Molly, getting groomed.
JeriLynn. It's nice to have Hot coffee, I would hate to wake up without that. Sounds like your DH is a sweetie. I love the ocean, I grew up spending lots of time on a ocean beach in California.
Carl, it is a good thing that you DW, is less agitated, I know this is hard on both of you. It's nice that you can still get her out and have a enjoyable time. When I get up out of a chair, I rock myself out, maybe I should practice getting up without hands and rocking.
Sandy, its so nice hearing from you, and thanks for remembering me. I was off line for awhile, during my move from Oregon, to Arizona. You take care of yourself and let us hear from you as often as you can.
Hugs to all of you, Zetta

No!!! We need to find a home other than the flip house for my ex SIL. Then we can finally proceed with the flipping. This has been a long pull but you have to do what is right ….what you can live with. Hopefully we can start forward.
Port Aransas looks really cold. A bit like Lake Michigan early March.

Ah, but “Joy comes in the morning!”
A beautiful sunny day, a little chilly but not bad at all. We drove down the sandy beach and everyone jumped out of the truck whenever they saw a pretty seashell. The beach is my “”happy place “ no matter the season or weather. And Texas has never disappointed me ❤️
Sad news trigger warning: we lost the itty bitty triplet baby. The best option would have been to haul her on vacation with us but DH wasn’t hearing of that. I don’t know that she would’ve survived inside on a bottle but for me it was worth a shot. He claims those tiniest ones don’t usually survive no matter what. But NEXT TIME: I’ll stand my ground and try anyway. I’m not saying I’m right but still. Ok, sad story over.
SIL and I have raided the mall for bargains and had fun with that! Tonight is all you can eat shrimp and fixins. I’ve not cooked one meal since we left home! Yay 😀

Had good food the servers were appropriately dressed very short mini skirts and tight tops.

Glad you had a good time, David.
. JeriLynn, sorry about the little baby. I know how you feel. We have always done everything possible to help little ones. We always brought new babies to the barn and kept them in the lot a couple of weeks. This afternoon I have been watching a big. black cow ( was one of ours) who had been laying down by the pond. One of the white cows came down and stayed with her a couple of hours ago. I was getting ready to go down and check when the baby stood up and the three of them started up to the hay. I called Mike to see if he wanted to put them up in the barn but he said as long as the baby was following his mom he would be all right. I hope so.
The picture is pretty. Foreign to me though, never been to a beach except around a lake. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
I just checked again and mom and baby are halfway up to the feeding area. Guess she's letting him rest. At least it won't be so horribly cold tonight.

Hi cobbers
Just to let you know the third 'down-under' member is still here.
Still writing, now concentrating on books for children, all set in Aus. The latest couple are about children who find themselves back in time past — one in the 1950s so I knew just what life was like then! That was lucky.
Some of you may remember that back in about 2016 (!!!!!!) I had very bad oral thrush, and it was Jo who helped me get it cleared up. The next year, I had lumps on my tongue, which turned out to be cancerous, linked to the previous thrush. Removed by operation, which was not comfortable. Well, this year, the lumps are back. I had biopsies, showing pre-cancerous changes, so will have another operation to remove them. But the biopsy also showed that the fungal thrush is STILL THERE, growing INSIDE my tongue tissues. So once again, medication trying to kill the thrush, as well as the operation. Gah!!!!!!!!!!!
Great to hear from Sandy, and so sorry for the little slip up. Get well soon! And to our other Aussie, I grew up in Queensland on the Darling Downs, but did spend some time in the far north. Welcome to our gang.
Still crocheting toys for charity, which keeps me out of mischief.
Barbara

Barbara, sorry about your medical problems. Hope it turns out allright. Did they ever find out what caused the thrush?
I think.of you often and the two really good books I read that you wrote. Your crochet work is so pretty. I bet you enjoy making them.
Happy to see your post. Please post often and let us know how things are going.

Had some good news with my medical followup today. I had prostate cancer 20+ years ago and was treated with radiation. The treatment worked, but I am one of the unfortunate 3% of patients who develop radiation scarring, and I have gone back to the urologist every 2-3 months for 20 years for urethral dilation. Doc has started doing a new procedure that involves locally applied chemotherapy to suppress the scarring. I had it last fall and haven't had a dilation since. My PSA was undetectable today, which means the cancer is not recurring, and he told me to come back in a year unless I have a problem. He said he will miss me, he had gotten used to seeing me every 2-3 months and exchanging jokes with me. I'll miss him too, but not the procedures and the accompanying medical bills.
The chemotherapy was done at hospital as outpatient, under anesthetic. He popped in to see me before the anesthesiologist took over, told the pretty, young nurse I told great jokes, and, as he left the room, told me to tell her the one about Santa's shortest elf. The nurse looked pretty nervous (I suspect she meets a lot of dirty old men in her line of work), but laughed when I told her Santa's shortest elf was in therapy. He was suffering from low elf esteem.

good morning, 15°F. Yes!
Yes, eagle always wash your hands as soon as you get home and keep them away from your Face until they are washed. Norovirus Is the one that gives you vomiting and diarrhea. My understanding is it is been going around a bit this year also. Hand sanitizer does not kill it. You have to wash your hands with soap. I learned an interesting fact about Norovirus recently. The first place it was detected was in a city only about an hour from me. It was actually first named after that city. Of course the citizens started fussing about that and so they changed the name to where it only reflects a portion of the city. That was interesting. Understand that cruise ships now Have fancy types of washing stations for people to wash their hands because of the norovirus.
Hope everyone has a peaceful day. Ron, how did you fare with the weather where you’re at?0 -
Another cold day on my end of the porch.
David— Enjoy the view at Hooters. Both of them.
Gothic Gremlin— Not quite 5'? My mom and niece are 4'11". So much hemming, even of petite clothing. My BIL in Myrtle Beach had 6" of snow. He's from Indiana, so not new to him. But his Southern Belle bride and their dogs are completely beside themselves.
Beth— Great on the DEXA. I've been on thyroid replacement since the 1970s, so I try to be extra diligent about weight bearing, strength and balance exercises. So far, so good.
Sandy— Wow, you've really seen the sights in the last year. I'm sorry about your Japan mishap. It's so unfortunate. Here the gaps are an issue. Mom slipped once exiting and scraped her shin badly on the way down. DS works for a tourist railroad and catches little kids a couple times a year.
Jerilynn— I'm sorry about the baby. The first set of beach pictures looks more like Maine than the Gulf.
Zetta— I look forward to pictures of your pup. It seems a lot of mom's neighbors use mobile groomers. Some days when I drive down her street I'll see as many as 3 different trucks
Barbara— I'm so sorry for your health woes. I hope you have a quick resolution with treatment. The toys are really cute.
Mint— That's a good point about the handwashing. We seem to get outbreaks at the local schools every winter— typically after the winter break in February. Sometimes half the kids in any class will be out at which point they hire a service to deep clean the building. My son got sick on the marching band tour to Argentina. Imagine being the school nurse on a trip with 150 people and 135 of them sick as dogs.
DS and I probably had it in December. 0 out of 10/I do not recommend.

Mom Update:
Thanks for the prayers and good wishes.
She seemed a bit better yesterday. Perkier anyway. The latest bloodwork is improving, and the docs seem to be getting better clarity about what is going on. She's on the more critical progressive care unit and has had an impressive roster of specialist consults this time. So far SLPs, pulmo, hematology and infectious disease.
They seem to now think, the embolism is the result of a systematic staph infection. Not MRSA so that's good. They changed her antibiotics for that. He pneumonia looks a bit worse in imaging, but she's holding her own on 3l without IV steroids. Potential discharge today.

Morning, bright and sunny here but chilly.
Carl, good news on your checkup. I worked as a medical secretary in Urology for a few years so kind of know bout the dilitations. Wish I had a nickel for every consent I had the men sign for that. Nice you won't have to.be going in every two or three months.
I heard on the news last night that Oklahoma has the second highest number of cases for flu. Went up from 25 to over 500 in a very short time. During the covid epidemic when most people wore masks there were very few cases of flu. Wearing masks was the reason. I still wear mine when I'm around people.
Called to make the GPs appt. With the vet. He has let me bring them in before the appts.began so thought he might this time. He is out of the office today for continuing education but was told he would call in today. Cassie will ask.him and let me know. Stormy has a seizure if there are lots of people or pets there.
I so need to solve the problem of getting her in the car. Before I.bought this one my objective was to get one she could get in. When I had the Mercury sedan she could get in but now she has arthritis.
Just fed the birds- they eat a lot of feed. Girls are standing in the sun to warm up. Guess I better get some water in the tank because the pond is frozen but may thaw some later.. Hope the baby made the night okay.
HB, glad your mother is improving.

Went to the ice cream social and had 2 sundae
Tommorow I go to my first dr appointment at the VA to try to get my hearing aids fixed.

Good afternoon.
Lorita. With your vet knowing the problem you have with Stormy, I would be surprised if he did not allow that, or maybe come to you as he did before. You be carefull, you do not want to be added to the list of oklahomans (sp) with the flu.
HB. I'm glad to hear that you're mom's getting better, I bet she wishes it was faster. I would have a hard time being sick, I would hate to have to stay down. I tried to send pictures yesterday, and my daughter was helping me and my picture would not send. We will keep trying.
Carl, it's good news to hear that you will miss your doctor and he will miss you. I'm looking forward to missing my dentist, when my implants are completed. I bet that pretty young nurse laughed at your joke.
David. I'm glad you enjoyed your lunch at Hooters, it real nice that your able to go on outings.
JeriLynn. I'm so sorry to hear about that little one 😒, you take such good care of them, I hope this has not ruined your vacation.
Barbara, it's nice hearing from you, but sorry to hear about your setbacks. I love all those toys you made. How long does it take you to get one done?
Alls well with me, I'm still dealing with the procedure for getting dentures, and its not been fun. When you get old it's hard to believe you're old🙏😒
Take care all, Hugs Zetta

Zetta Thank you for asking about my mom. That’s kind. I believe my mom is starting to show a little more cognitive decline.
Barbara, I like your toys they’re really cute. It was good to hear from you and I hope you get to feeling better know it gets wearisome.
Carl, it’s always nice to get good news and to get a procedure that helps you. Makes you feel good.HB Hope your mom continues to improve.
Yes, Lorita the birds can eat a lot of seeds and they also get help from their friends.

Hi, the news just said a school east of here is closing because s third of their students and staff are out sick with the flu. Not just that school.but others. There are 2200+ reported vases if fly with almost 300 being hospitalized.
Zetta, there are three or four things that need to be examined in both GPs. He checks, then one of the girls in the clinic does the treatment, like cleaning and medicating the ears. He has come to the house to give allergy shots for a long time.. Their allergies seem to be better since they are staying outside more. I don't want to be around anyone but sometimes it's necessary. People need to get their vaccines and wear masks!
It's been a nice day, in the high thirties but the north wind is cold.
Mint, do you have snow? Does your mother take any kind of medicine for her alz?
They're showing how they're getting the BOK Center in Tulsa ready for the Pro Bull Riding . Takes four hours to get the dirt in and ready. I had wondered about that. Surely would hate to have to clean it up.
Hope all of you are staying safe and bc warm. Ron, how are you today?

Next week is Walmart. We go on 2 trips a month.

Hello dear front porch friends! I'm so tired of all this. If our Lord is wanting me to join Lou, I wish he would hurry up. I can't even walk to the kitchen without my oxygen dropping. It's going into the 70s more and taking longer to go back up. Ive gone to the bedroom several times to help with the oxygen u have in there to sleep by. Nurse is trying to move up getting me a portable one. They want a pulmonary function test first and it's not scheduled till March. I had the video call this morning with the neurosurgeon and they are ordering a MRI. Bone scan and CAT scan of my chest next Tuesday and now will be having a MRI sceduled, they are going to run out of different types of scans before long.
Ron
2 -
Ron, I'm so sorry. Please let your primary care dr. or pulmonologist know about your oxygen level dropping. That is very concerning.
0 -
Ron, Beth is so right. Talk to your. Doctor, in the morning. There should be no delay in getting your portable oxygen. If that doesn't Work immediately, contact the hospital patient advocate and tell him what is going on. Do not wait until Monday.
0 -
Ron, I think you should go to a private hospital if you have to. This can't wait until March.

We have increased flu cases in SW Missouri also but not like in Oklahoma. One of my friends, who has COPD, had it a couple of weeks ago. He wanted to shovel the snow from his driveway soon after he recovered but his wife told him he would have to wrestle her to get out the door, so he let it melt like I did. He takes a hit off his oxygen tank after walking to the mailbox and back, so shoveling snow probably isn't in his wheelhouse anymore even without having just recovered from the flu. It's hard to tell that to a Marine/farmer/bowhunter though.
The news today reported bird flu in the chicken farms in Newton County and the need to kill 1,500,000 chickens to stop the spread in the factory farms there. The birds in the commercial farms are jammed together and any contagious disease spreads like wildfire. Bird flu may be why eggs were $7.50 per dozen last time I looked. I am aware of only one person dying of bird flu so far, but it is killing a lot of birds.
Lorita, our Braum's store has peach preserves in 18 oz jars for about $3.25. Like Smucker's and most other commercial brands, it uses high fructose corn syrup more than sugar, so it may not be as good as the preserves your friend gave you, but it tastes good to me.

Lorita we still have quite a bit of snow. One day I can remember we got some melting but it still didn’t disappear. And we’ve had more snow since then and it’s been too cold for anything to melt. Even though I dislike the cold I’m very thankful for it and for the snow because we had a very dry end to our summer. We were considered in severe drought in a lot of Ohio. The last two winters have been fairly warm really. This past summer a lot of pests were extremely plentiful, so I’m hoping that this long siege of very cold weather will help with that.
Lorita as far as I know My mom does not have Alzheimer’s. Like some other people on here I’ve not had real good luck at getting a diagnosis. When my mom was in the hospital the last time, the psychiatrist says that my mom has a significant personality disorder and is delusional. The neurologist told us in person that my mom didn’t have dementia, but proceeded to go on and say that she had microvascular changes on her brain MRI, that would predispose her to vascular dementia. From there he went on to say that he could not determine dementia when she was in an acute state and testing would need to be done on an outpatient basis. I’ve worked in the hospital long enough to kind of read between the lines. Physicians are good at that for self preservation. So just a day or two ago I got My Chart set up for my mom. So I got in and was able to see Notes. The neurologist wrote in his H&P that my mom had some types of cognitive decline. I don’t remember what words he used. Some types were more obvious than others he said. She did have some trouble recalling things he had told her, which we see that. He stated that she wasn’t at her baseline right now so testing needed to be done as an outpatient. My mom truly was at her baseline. She was no different at the hospital than she was at home. My sisters and I agree that mom is starting to show more cognitive decline recently. So my assumption is is that she has vascular dementia which would totally make sense. I’ve always kind of figured that’s the type she has. I have also seen some things recently on when someone has a personality disorder that it often exacerbates when they get dementia. That makes sense also.Ron, sending you a virtual hug. I know this is very wearisome.

Good morning. Still cold and dark here.
Carl— that's great news about your urologist appointments.
Lorita— What autocorrect/predictive text did to your last post made me giggle. "vases if fly" My tablet does that as well. It's amusing. I hear you though, there's so much illness floating around lately. Norovirus is a problem at the schools especially, and respiratory illnesses are filling the ERs. One of mom's friends has COVID.
David— Only 2 sundaes?
Zetta— I hate to break it to you, but you'll still need to see the dentist for cleanings twice a year. It won't be as traumatic as what you're dealing with currently.
Ron— I'm sorry for your health situation. I agree with Carl. O2 in the 70s on exertion is why I took mom to the ER Monday. FWIW, mom was using a massive O2 concentrator at home but when she was discharged from her October hospitalization, the discharge coordinator ordered a POC to be delivered immediately— I think it was delivered the next morning because it was late in the day. She also has tanks oxygen if she loses power. The POC is great— mom gets about 3 hours on 2liters from the battery. She has wall and car chargers which allow us to get around.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
The hospitalization continues. It looks as if she's staying through the weekend. The evil discharge coordinator who obstructed my bid for rehab after an 11-day stay made a call to her PCP saying she'd be inpatient "at least through the weekend".
She's had so many tests, consults and medication changes this time. I'm a little salty about her GI consult yesterday— she refused endoscopy in favor of another barium study. When I asked to help me understand why, she said "anesthesia". They use propofol— the same thing she was happy to have (and did very well with) for her bladder sling surgery. The last barium swallow study was suggestive of a structural issue which could potentially be improved during an endoscopic procedure, but she said no. I'm betting she'll need one as follow up and that will be outpatient which could have been avoided. She said she didn't understand, and I said she should have asked for a little time to talk to family. Meanwhile, she's occasionally hallucinating flowers and large birds in her room. Oddly, she knows they're no real.
DS was a little stressed after his first anatomy class. The instructor is an older man who DS deemed to be "old school". Evidently that means nothing is online and using an actual textbook. Horrors! There was so much whining. I may have snapped at him as well when I told him "old school" is how his father and mother learned material and to be open minded.
DH took a spill on the way up from the mailbox last night. He was looking at what was in the box rather than where he was stepping. It's been in the teens each afternoon, so the packed snow and ice is not melting. He was able to get up, but I anticipate some dramatic bruising.

Morning, cold and sunny. Wind chill is 18.
HB, I try to proofread but even after those corrections it changes the words.. Sometimes it doesn't make any sense. I hope your mother continues to improve. Dealing with so many services in the hospital can sometimes be difficult. I know I had problems with a social worker when Charles was in the hospital. That was very unusual for social workers but sometimes you find a rotten apple.
I need to get out and feed the birds. They're flying all over the place. Ron, hope you are better this morning. Time for more hot tea. Back later.

Another set of twins this morning. I don’t even know yet what they are but they sure are cute 🥰

VA nurse coordinator called this morning and told me the pulmonologist approved me for 24/7 oxygen and she was having it expedited. In the meantime to use the one I sleep by and use the longer line for it. She is also putting in a order for a home health monitor. She told me it was like a laptop you plug into the wall and comes with blood pressure monitor and oxymeter. The information when I use it goes directly to the nurses and if needed they would call with instructions.

Hello Front Porchers.
Ron. That is real good news, as we all know we need oxygen to live. Like Lorita, said you contact higher ups, if you need to, your life is important. Please take care of yourself, we all care.
Lorita. It will be nice when your GPs to the vet, and get all their checkups out of the way.
David. That's nice you get two outings a month. When my DH was in MC, I remember the big calendar that AL, had on the wall, they went to BiMart and out to lunch each week. Also a lot of indoor activities.
HB. That was not good news, about me having to go see my dentist, twice a year. I like him, but I sure would not miss him. Is it the post they clean? How is your DH? Hopefully he's not covered in bruises, afterhis fall. It sounds like your mom is a bit confused. How is she doing today.
JeriLynn. Those babies are so precious. How old are they, in the picture? Probably just a few hours. Do they make good pets?
I'm so sorry to hear about the flu, picking up in so many places. Please ya all, keep warm and get plenty of rest.

This morning it was happy new baby pictures. The last 2 days these were the first pictures of the days!
Fried outlet because Granddaughter had plugged in a space heater in the same outlet as a nightlight. She unplugged the heater and was getting ready to leave when she saw a spark and smelled smoke. Disaster averted thankfully.
Next morning Jake got out of the pasture for some reason and went up to the house. You can see he tore his ear to get out. I can’t imagine unless he saw a threat and went after it. Granddaughter opened the garage door and he came in and sat there with her until Grandson came from Huntland. All the goats and babies were safe. Jake is now in a locked barn stall. Lilly is guarding the pasture alone but all seems fine.
My nerves are shot. We begin the journey home tomorrow. It’s a 3 day trip. Hopefully everyone and everything stays safe.
Praying for you all during these difficult times of sickness ❤️
