Pet the goat had twins this morning. A stillbirth and this handsome little fella. Roscoe Brown. He’s been in the short pasture and the barn hallway. Mama is doing good, being attentive. Jake and Lilly are close by keeping watch.

    Good morning Front Porch Rockers.

Dear Jo, if you're reading this I wish you a Happy Birthday 🎂 and many more. You're in my thoughts, and missed and loved. Xo

Ron. A move is hard, but at times it's in you're best interest. I sold the home and a acre of land that my DH and I lived on for years and moved to Arizona to live with my daughter and SIL. I miss Oregon, and where we lived, but I'm thankful for my kids wanting me to be with them. Molly (dog) Sammy (cat) and I have adjusted. You will adjust as well.

It's been a few days, I need to get caught up with you Rockers. I have been bird watching, waiting for Sunny and Gizmo, to take their first flight out of their nest on Big Bear Mountin. I'm addicted to those birds. 🥰

    Hugs Zetta

Carl, you know about these things. Can you tell us what crypto coins are and mean coin?

I just tried to call Joan (Telinde) and she didn't answer. I think the last time we talked she had another surgery coming up. She may be in the hospital. I'll try again tomortow.

Darwin called a while ago. He cut wood again today. Many of the big limbs have broken up high and are still hanging (just like most of mine). He tied a rope to one big limb and to his Mule trying to pull it down. He said all but one wheel came off the ground, so he quit. How dangerous was that? I'm afraid he'll get hurt doing things like that.

Most of my broken limbs are south of the house so the house sort of protected the trees on the north. I didn't see any damage to trees down in the pasture. He said the wind was awful but I can't remember that - must have been in the living room on the north side of the house.

JeriLynn, that baby is precious. Really makes me want one. How much does he weigh and about how tall?

I will say good night. Sleep tight.

Lorita, he is probably about 4-5 pounds. I didn't pick him up yet, just loved on his little face and let him smell me. He's under a foot tall. Mama was happy to get the crackers I brought her.

    Good morning

Ron, my prayer is that the move will go smoothly for you. I know it’s hard but I think you’ve made a good decision for your entire family which includes you. You’re going to need them now in this stage of life.

Ron I just edited this. I’m sorry I did not notice that it said your removal. I dictated this and you know how that goes I have it corrected and I apologize that I did not proofread.

Good morning, all. I'm loving all the pictures of the springtime babies.

It's still very damp here but not actively raining so that's good. There's been an ambulance next door for the last 30 minutes or so. The police and fire marshal have pulled out, so I guess it's not super urgent. I hope no one is seriously ill or injured.

We used to have EMTs her a lot when the lady next door and the father of the folks next to them were still alive. Once when DS was in kindie he and a friend were playing in the yard and a police officer burst into the house asking "where are they?". It was the wrong address, but it did scare the daylights out of me.

I should probably take mom to get her picture taken at the DMV for her driver's license. She hasn't driven in years, so it's not a hill I plan to die on. But I do worry they might flag her for an eye exam at the very least. She'd flunk and be very upset, so I've been avoiding it. She also wants Real ID. If she has the documents needed, we could do that as well.

For sure. Tried getting in touch with Joan again but no answer.

Pretty morning here but storms later. Had cream of wheat , toast and half a banana for breakfast. I had gotten several bananas about the time the flare began and they are getting really ripe. Guess I need to mash and freeze them for banana bread later. Reminds me I need to put ingredients in for a loaf of bresd. All I have is brioche and I need plain bread.

Yesterday when I got the car out of the carport I saw big paw prints in the wet ground. Must have been that big wolf who is around. They were as big as Stormys so guess he is still around.

JeriLynn, I think you said your husband raises and sells goats. As cute as they are, how do you keep from getting attached to them? I know I would and not want to sell them. I was like that about the girls. Calves were the ones we sold and I tried to.not get too attached to them. .Ssd, I guess, to say I am still attached to them. I wish I could have kept them but at least they are here.

Heard bawling this morning, looked out and they were all in the lot milling around. They had been in the barn. The NE gate was opened and soon I saw someone in a Gator moving them to the NE pasture. Buck, our horse, used to do that. They will be back in the barn soon. They come in about 9, stay all day and come out to graze about 4.

Still weak, cleaned the !itter box and it wore me out. I read this morning that taking calcium could sometimes cause diverticulitis. I wondered because that was the only different thing I had been ingesting for three weeks before the flare.

Watch out for storms. Back later.

Good afternoon. Well, guess what - the fence guy was a no show. Gurrrrr. He did text me and he can't find pickets that he likes. He'd been to 4 different places. Now the guy is very meticulous, but comes on. Cedar fence pickets I didn't think were all that different. He said he wants them all the same - and he's not finding it. I guess he'll keep looking and whenever he finds exactly what he's looking for then we'll get the new fence.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, please be careful Lorita. You admit your weak and the heat can zap you even more. Please be very careful. Can you drink some Gatorade? It's something besides water and tea, plus it will help balance your electrolytes. It's just a thought.

Now I want baby goats! Such sweet pics.

Ron you've made a very difficult decision, good for you. Of course it will be hard for you, any move would be hard. Your doing this for you, which is great. Let those kido's watch over you and you get to watch the grandkids and their sports. That's a win in my book. The move is a move, but your memories are still just the same. You'll be taking those with you.

It's Memorial Day weekend. In small town KS it's a big deal, if your a Veteran or not. The cemetery is decorated and looks nice. I called our local flower shop last week to have her make a silk arrangement to put on my parents headstone. We had a lovely chat and I told her what I was thinking. She agreed, but I could tell she was thinking slightly differently. She sent me a picture of the flowers she'd just delivered to the cemetery. It's a lovely combo of what I'd ask for and clearly what she thought would look nice. It looks lovely - and I called to tell her so and thanked her. She was so pleased that I was pleased. Small town living at its best. (She also the one that when I'd called one time for flowers to be delivered she told me no! I'd ask for some daisy's, maybe even bright pink Gerber daisy's mixed in. She said 'honey your daddy would kill the both of us if we put bright pink anything out there.' In thinking about it, again, she was 100% correct.)

Thank you to all of our Veteran's we have on the board. I hung our new US flag and TX state flag proudly this morning. Thank you for your service.

    Let's be safe everyone.

We're looking at rain tonight and all weekend, so I'm not sure I will fly the flag. OTOH the veteran across the street has a small one attached to his mailbox so maybe I should.

Memorial Day is a big deal to us in Springfield MO, for its usual reason and because we host the Midwest National street rod show this weekend. Hundreds of gussied up '32 Fords and '57 Chevys are rolling up and down the streets and congregating at the fairgrounds. Old hotrodders with arthritic hands who couldn't open a jar, must less turn a wrench, travel from all over the central US to visit with their friends and see each other's pretty cars. I have never owned a street rod and probably never will, but I love looking at them.

My air conditioning mechanic came today and got my AC cleaned and in running shape. It's 15 years old and needed a new capacitator, but it still runs well.

I don't think I would name any animal I intended to sell or eat. Although, when Jon brought home a new goldfish, Garfield suggested they name her Sushi. 🙂

Lorita, crypto currency is money that is not regulated by any government agency or bank. It is a record of transactions maintained on networks of computers and serves the functions of money (a medium of exchange and a store of value). Since it is unregulated, it is highly volatile and susceptible to fraud, and no one should invest money in it that they can't afford to lose. The big ones are Bitcoin and Ethereum, but there are many others. I don't understand all I know about crypto, so I have never considered investing in it. Some major corporations are buying crypto, since they see it as a better store of value than the US dollar under present management, but they have professionals to manage their money and I don't.

JeriLynn - Oh ,that's right (about the ma'am). I knew that. I get the manners and respect. It's funny, we never were expected to say yes sir or yes ma'am when we were growing up. But - we were expected to be respectful - and we were! If I was told to do something, you can bet I was on that. And I would never have dreamed to let any of my sarcasm show, or roll my eyes. But if I responded "yes" to an adult, and the adult said "yes, what?" to me, I honestly don't think the word "ma'am" would have entered my brain at all. Maybe the difference is the south v California (the west coast?).

And, oh my gosh, aren't baby goats just the cutest little things? I'm like Lorita, I'd never be able to give them up.

MInt - don't feel bad about your weather. It's rained here every day since last week. I'm seeing some sun right now, but I know it's ephemeral.

Lorita - Gotta love autocorrect! 😄 Barclee is a cute name. I liked Barcode because it reminded me of a friend of mine who had two little black cats. She named them both Xerox.

Also, I'm with eaglemom - can you drink gatorade? It tastes horrible, but it's good for replacing electrolytes.

Carl - I don't know anything about cryptocurrency. I guess the only thing I know is that it tends to be volatile.

I'm ready for the long weekend! We will probably have burgers on one of the days. Meat for my s.o. ,but a veggie burger for me, with lots of mustard and pickles.

I had an interesting conversation with my trainer this morning when I was at the gym. I'm 23 days in with having no dairy. I was curious how it would feel - and, I feel better. Odd, because I never felt bad to begin with. So I mentioned it to my trainer, and he said that lactose intolerance exists on a spectrum, so perhaps I have a slight bit of that? Hmm, maybe? Peggy was highly lactose intolerant. Dairy has never bothered me in the past, and it doesn't bother me now, but maybe it kind of does? So I think next time I go to the doctor I'm going to request an allergy test to see if there is anything there or if I'm just making stuff up in my head.

Hi again, don't guess I will fly our flag either because of all the wind and storms. We have always flown it since moving to the farm house except in bad weather. A flag doesn't last long here because of wind. I promised myself I would always have it up for Charles and his military history.

Thanks, Carl. None of that for me but sure does pay off for some. Glad you got your AC checked. I know it's as muggy in Missouri as it is in Oklahoma. Curious -'do you pronounce the name of your State like it ends in an E or A? I use the A. We have a town called Miami, not pronounced like the. one the Florida so guess that's why.

GG, are you a vegetarian? I have been for years, not vegan but ova- lactate. Guess that's because we have had cattle and could not stand the thought of someone consuming them. But, never did eat much meat.

I laughed out loud about the name Xerox for the cats. Would never have thought of that.

Eagle and GG, I don't know if I can drink Gatorade or Boost. Surely wish I could. I love the grape gatorade and Boost. Guess I could drink some Pedialyte. I didn't know it came in powder form. Should keep some if that like Judith does.

Sandy, I was going to order those shoes but the black ones weren't available in my size. I may order some Easy Spirit and.hope for the best.

Ron, I don't envy all you have to do to get ready for the move but it probably is best for you to be near relatives so they can help if needed. You'll have relatives and I know you make friends easily so it will be okay.

I think I may go sit on the porch a while, while the weather is good. Funny, this past week, before yesterday, I heard and saw a lot of birds but not since then. Wonder why? Good night, sleep tight.

GG, I have read that most human adults are lactose intolerant, like most adult mammals generally. Lactose tolerance has only evolved in the last few thousand years and only in parts of Europe and Africa, like Germanic people and Masai. I am of mostly German and English descent, and I can drink milk without a problem, but you might not. If skipping dairy makes you feel better, you probably should listen to your body and do it. I feel better when I frequently eat salads with mixed greens or stir fry with mixed veggies. I don't feel unwell when I don't eat the mixed veggies, but I feel better when I do.

It's 61 and raining lightly, and car lovers are sitting out there with their grandchildren watching the street rods parade up and down the street that was our main drag strip back in the day. I like the cars but not that well.

I sat up most of last night listening to comedy and music on YouTube. I think I will try to get some sleep tonight.

Lorita, I pronounce Missouri with the long e ending. The State was called Misery during the Civil War, for good reason. I know Miami Oklahoma is pronounced with an a ending, because I had a good friend who grew up there, but most people from around here would use an e ending.

Pronunciation of a lot of words varies from one part of Missouri to another. St. Louis is more like the East, and an ice cream sundae is called a "sun duh" instead of a "sun dee" as we say it in the Ozarks. And Missouri would be pronounced with the a ending.

Lorita and Carl — I'm mostly vegetarian. I eat salmon because it's so good for you, but that's pretty much it as far as meat is concerned. I stopped eating red meat in 1997, and quit eating chicken sometime later.

I think I've read that too (about most adults being lactose intolerant), Carl. I'm mostly Sicilian so that may have something to do with it.

Interesting about word pronunciation. I didn't know that those words were pronounced like that in the various regions. I have a friend who tells me that there are things I say (or pronounce) that peg me as from southern California. I would pronounce those words as Miameee, Missoureee, and sunday.

    Morning.

Thunder, lightning and rain for next several days. Hopefully good for all those plants/bushes/shrubs we put in the ground. The hummingbirds are loving all the red on the patio.

Yesterday was first pool day of the season. The Madison City grands/greats were here. Steaks, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, yeast rolls, brownies, fruit salad, chicken salad. I didn't take a single picture. Great fun.

Ron, while moving is a huge task, I think this is a good decision. You'll be with your family. And making important memories for your grands.

Carl, DH would love that car show. He has just finished restoring a 63 Chevy SS. People stop in the middle of the street on the town square to call out to him with admiration for the car. It was a years long process.

Eagle, such aggravation with waiting on things to get done. I like your "Flower Lady". I just put new flowers on all the family headstones but will put fresh cut wildflowers out for Monday.

GG I don't do a lot of dairy but the thought of coffee without the 1/2 and 1/2 makes me shudder. I'd have to give up coffee and no one around me would enjoy that, lol.

"JeriLynn, I think you said your husband raises and sells goats. As cute as they are, how do you keep from getting attached to them?"

Lorita, I do get attached but it's a business for DH. My preference would be not to have them at all. The sad reality is they are food or, a source of milk if they are milk goats. But I try to honor them with names and loving care while they have their time with us. I'm not allowed to go with DH to the sale barn. The one time I went, I cried so hard he went back and bought back the baby I was crying over. On the sale day when he plans to load them, I feed them cookies, love on them, say goodbye and I pray over them. Then I go in the house and DH attends to business.

Ok, BIG lightning strike and a power surge. I think I'll get up and away from this window till the weather settles. Have a good day Y'all and be safe wherever you are.

Good morning. We're supposed to get a little sun this morning and again on Monday, but it should be dry, so I will count that as a win.

Our small town puts on quite the parade on Memorial Day. The parade starts at the town cemetery on the outskirts to honor the man for whom the Legion Post is named, then it snakes through town stopping at the old graveyards at the Episcopal, Methodist, AME, and Roman Catholic Churches. There's a boring speech at the town hall and then a final stop at the Presbyterian Church (where Washington brought the Hessian POWs after the Battle of Trenton offering them an option to obtain farms in the central part of the state rather than death).

My son, and sometimes me, have marched. DS and I walked all through his years as a Cub Scout and then Boy Scout. I recall one hot sweaty parade when he was in 8th grade swearing he was never going to wear his synthetic Class A ever again. I elbowed him, pointed at the marching band in their black wool uniforms and reminded him, that's what he'd be wearing the next time. As the band uniform mom it used to irk me that, for some reason, the parade did an about-face after the speech which meant the band was right behind the Belgian horses. What a mess.

Lorita— Good idea about the banana bread. I must have half a dozen Ziplocs of mashed over-ripe bananas in the freezer at all times. I should make a couple loaves. I like it toasted with a cup of tea.

Another issue with crypto is the vast amount of energy mining requires. DH shared an article last night over dinner out (how romantic) estimating that 3% of the total energy used in this county is used in computing for crypto.

Eaglemom— A friend put in a cedar fence last year and ran into a similar situation. She was trying to match one side of it and ended up getting all new and settling for her second choice as the first wasn't available. I wonder if the situation is complicated by lumber being sourced from Canada and the uncertainty of pricing right now.

Carl— DH always reminds me that those of us who tolerate lactose are the mutants— not the other way around. DH came to lactose intolerance in his mid-40s. He had a terrible flare-up on a trip to Indiana when DS was about 2. The pair of them spent a week guzzling ice cream and milk shakes. DH was in terrible pain; it was assumed to be a gall bladder attack, and his ER doc brother sent him home wearing a Fentanyl patch. This meant I had to drive the 666 miles home. I had a massive blowout on I-70 in Ohio at about 70mph and was able to limp into a rest stop. A young couple who turned out to be students at a bible college near mom's house changed the tire for me. They insisted; I was going to call AAA. DH kind of stood there looking stupid and drooling. When they were done, the woman fussed over how cute DS was and shared that she'd just found out she was pregnant. I have never let DH forget the time he was all highed-up and let a pregnant woman change his tire.

Gothic G— I kind of like Bar Code as a name, too. My friend bought a house from a real jerk. His wife was going into a SNF and he was going to take the cats to the pound. My friend said she'd take them. He agreed but day of they weren't included. She did find one in the yard a few days later and named him Tubby Lunchbox. He was a fine cat. My neighbor has a cat named Pot Pie.

Since intolerance isn't the same as a true allergy, they test differently. For adults it's usually a breath test or glucose testing along with a food diary.

Ron— I hope your move goes smoothly. I hope you can find your people when you move. Maybe there's a nice church community that would suit you.

    ___________________________________________________________________________

I took mom to get her picture taken for her new driver's license at the local AAA. She doesn't drive but is hellbent on keeping it rather than getting a state ID. The DMV was closing early, so she wasn't able to do the Real ID portion. Of course, she left without her camera card, so I had to circle back to the house. She thought her old license was the camera card. Ugh. The wait wasn't too awful but she confided she's faked her way through the visual check to confirm the information was correct as she couldn't read the screen.

After, I swapped out her old modem for an upgrade. That turned out to be way more complicated as she had the wrong "username" in her password file— it's supposed to be her town's name and a number. But the tech who created it for her, misspelled the town's name omitting a silent "e" where mom did not when she wrote it down. Something that should have taken me 12 minutes ended up sucking 2 hours out of my life.

We're meeting friends for dinner at a Thai place. That should be fun.

    HB

Friday was a pleasant start to the long weekend….long weekend, who am I kidding? I'm retired, every day is like a weekend! 🤣 I went to lunch with a good friend. The lunch wasn't good…I had ordered a chicken with a honey mustard sauce and the taste wasn't good. But we had good conversation and afterwards went to her house. Her husband has lung cancer and is doing fairly well at this time. I was glad to see him and talk with him. She has a fantastical garden - on the gate to the garden (ie the backyard) is a sign saying "The Sanctuary." And it is. Tranquil, peaceful, a lot of shade. Her favorite flower is clematis and she has many, probably more than 20. Anyway, she dug 2 daylilies, 4 tall allium and 3 Asiatic lilies (yellow) for me. An interesting story on one of the daylilies. I had shared a division with her years ago; now she gave me back a division of the same one. Full circle.

I got all of them planted as well as the peonies I'd dug from my parents' grave. My garden is looking fuller but it's mainly green, not in bloom yet. It is a work in progress.

My oldest grandson's 24th BD today. He lives 4 hours away so we won't see him but will call and talk with him. I always sing Happy Birthday over the phone to the young grandkids, but I feel self conscious singing to adults.

Other kids/grands coming over for dinner. I have some fresh rhubarb (anybody here grow or eat rhubarb?) and am making a dessert. I made a pie a couple of weeks ago but something different today.

I hope to do some more plant shopping soon. I have been to one nursery twice, Lowe's twice and a grocery store garden center once. I also have bought a number of plants online.

I love rhubarb and rhubarb pie is my favorite dessert. I have tried growing several times but my free range chickens always take it out before I can get it going very well. That and horseradish plants. Chickens are going into an extended run this year and less time out in the property. Sad for them but I am so tired of losing all my plants. You have inspired me to try rhubarb again this year. Darn another trip to the garden center. 🌱 😃

Morning, just had breakfast in bed! Of course I had to fix it but that was okay, enjoyed it. anyway. We were awakened at 2:30 by loud thunder and drain. Checked radar and there was more to come. We went back to s!eep and have just stayed in bed.

Thanks to you all who post in bold type. Makes it so much easier to read. I began posting in bold years ago when one of our friends said it would help her and have continued.

HB, I read you should add s little lemon juice to the bananas when you freeze them to keep them from turning brown. I may have to add more sugar to the bread. I have a few more to fo. Wish bananas would keep.longer.

Mint, I.hope you and your sister have a safe trip and good visit. Be careful.

JeriLynn, you sound like me. Years ago we decided to sell five older cows. Sent them to the stock yards in the morning but the cows would sell about 7 p.m. .We kept thinking and talking about how sad it was to take them from their home. I called a couple.of times as 7 drew closer to see if they had sold. Finally, we decided to try to get them home. I called and luckily a trucker had just brought in a load of cattle and we made arrangements for him to.bring them home. He stopped in the meadow and when he opened the tailgate of the trailer, they hit the ground running. I took some feed down to welcome them home. They had made two long trips that day.

We never sold cows again, until I sold to Mike knowing they would stay here. Sadly, he has sold a few of the older girls, Gray Lafor example. So, I don't blame you for crying. When we sold calves I always told them goodbye and watched them go down the drive with tears in my eyes..

It's thundering again so think I will stay where I am,To watch TV or nap. Enjoy the day..

Hello all, I'm back from my trip to Kenya, where I had a wonderful time. I'm going to try to catch up on what has happened while I was away. I'll post some pictures later. I'm still catching up on my rest.

There was talk about cornbread earlier in the month. In Kenya, a common food is ugali, made from maize, which I believe is the same as corn. It is shaped round, like a meat patty. The taste is bland and somewhat pasty. I thought it tasted like paste. Here is a picture, the round white disc on the plate.

What look like corn kernels are beans.

Hi. I sat on the porch about an hour this evening and was the hummingnird twice. Right in front of my chsir. I also discovered s little barn swallow has a next on one of the porch ceiling lights. About the only place a snake couldn't go. She may have little ones because she kept coming close until I movrd, then went to her nest. Makes me feel good.

Also.noticed the barn stall door was open so got on my boots and went out to close it. Luckily I found a board to walk on in the mud or I would have gotten stuck in the mud or face down in it.

It was do peaceful sitting on the porch watching the birds and cows,no noise like in town, just quiet. Saw a cow walking hurriedly down to another pasture and waited for her to come back I.figured she had her calf staked out. Finally gave up and drove down the lane to the mailbox and to check on her. There was another cow there so guess she had been babysitting for the first cow. Oh, one of the guys has opened the big North barn doors so I won't have to.do that.

Zetta, watching Gunsmoke before I go to sleep. Good night, Everyone. Sleep tight..
