Just need to talk to my friends (205) May 2025

I finally had my phone with me in the pasture so here’s today’s treat for you.
@GothicGremlin ’s namesake GG the Mama and her daughter Galentina (Gal for short). See her itty bitty horns?
They are both beautiful girls with, I think, the most exotic eyes.
Everybody got vanilla Oreo treats while I traipsed the pasture in my nightgown. When I’m not fast enough with cookies, the babies nibble at my gown lol.0 -
JeriLynn. You sound like me - I used to go out in the pastures in my gown in the CW.
They are both beautiful. How much do you think the baby weighs?
Just talked to Darwin. He and Donna were sitting on their porch watching the barn swallows flying around. They have several nests on their L shaped porch and several in the barn. He thinks there are babies in all of them. Wish there were some here. While we were talking he saw a rabbit. Said it was the first one he had seen in a coon's age. I saw a. Couple st different times a few days ago but not nearly as many as in the past, both were cotton tails. Haven't seen a jack rabbit in years.
Already in bed and just had half a cup.of applesauce. Will say good night. Sleep tight.

Good morning
Glad you had a nice visit Eagle.
zetta thankful children are home safely.

Morning, laying in bed watching the severe weather predictions for this afternoon and night.

Morning. We had quite the thunder & lightening show last night. It certainly was loud. A small bit of rain, hardly enough to even count as rain. This morning the humidity is oppressive. We're to have storms this afternoon. DH has a dentist appointment today, I'd like to change it but we'll keep it.
Back later. I need to get a load of laundry going. Let's be safe everyone.
0 -
Laundry going, shower taken, birthday card written and mailed; waiting on appliance repairman to place a new fan in the oven of our range. It's very windy and we got a bit of rain this morning and there is more to come.
Eagle, I hope you get the rain you need without the storms. Glad you had a good visit with your friends.
JeriLynn, your goats are adorable (and spoiled - OREOS! My goodness!) Speaking of Oreos, have you ever made a dessert called Dirt with crushed up Oreos, cream cheese, vanilla pudding in a little cup with added gummy worms? Kids are impressed by it; it is delicious too.
Lorita, we also have a barn swallow nest. It's under the decking. Sounds like Darwin is having a bit of a rough time. What became of his special memorial tree that was damaged? Hope you are feeling better and thank you for sharing the story of Lorita's painting. I am thinking it must be hung up somewhere in the facility, and Judith treasures it and would like to have it in her home.
Zetta, sounds like your daughter and SIL had an amazing trip! It is a blessing that she has travel benefits with her job.
Mint, hope you are well and just as busy as you want to be. I know sometimes you cannot get to all that you want to do.
Sandy, I am hoping that you are improving and especially your vision. What a scary situation!
I really loved seeing your photos, Judith! Thank you for sharing them.
GG, are Ranier cherries sweet cherries or tart cherries? Are they similar to bing cherries? Or pie cherries? GG, never mind the cherry questions. I looked at your links and have an answer: bing cherries, not pie cherries. Such a cool story about Peggy's class ring. I'm sure it will be appreciated by her good friend.
Ron, I am thinking of you. Did you decide to move to MO?
Have a good day everyone!

More peonies, at my son's house. So fragrant!

Those are like my peony, Beth and also like the artificial ones.Absolutely beautiful.
I was as weak as water this morning but managed to scramble a couple of eggs and make toast. My goodness, scrambled eggs never tasted so good! Also have had some milk and applesauce.I hadn't had solid good for about four days. As weak as I was it Just makes me.hurt to think of all the starving people around the world and how weak they must be and how awful. Severe storms predicted this afternoon through most of the night. Getting things together in the bathroom and tablets and phone charged. Have to walk out to the gate to get the leashes for the GPs.
Darwin called but forgot to ask him about the tree. Will later. Gave everyone their medicine, and mine, fed the cats and will feed the GPs in a minute.
Sandy, hope your vision is back to normal, or better.. I need to call Joan to check on her.
Beth, I love barn swallows. Darn snake, anyway. I need to check the barn but haven't seen any at the feeders
. Eagle, will you all get more storms when the dry line comes through? Be careful..
Everyone, please be careful.if the storms come your way.

Where is everyone else? First line of storms is going through. Still pretty weak and watery but did go out to the barn to make sure the girls were there. They are - way back in the north end. Fed and medicated everyone and everyone is in the bedroom watching Wagon Train, Zetta. When this storm.goes through I may take a nap.

the morning got away from me…
long talk talk with my sister …her daughter, who was with an abulence company 30s ago, is in charge and not setting up appointments with the right Drs. It is concerning and I must tread carefully and work around the fact that my niece has absolutely no current medical training.
A good time was had at the birthday dinner last night. I had my Bombay and then a Brandy Ice. Loved both!
Lorita…what is wrong with you? I am concerned. Looks like you will have some rough weather shortly.
The goats are wonderful. Maybe you can stand in the middle of the field and sing The Sound of Music in your nightgown and send us the video…lol

Prayers for weather safety for everyone. Ours comes tomorrow but as my feet hit the floor this morning the whole bedroom was flooded with lightening.
I’ve been cleaning all day and shopping for the food events of the week.0 -
The weather does seem to get more violent every year. For one thing, Tornado Alley has moved a State or two east and the storms are striking more densely populated areas. We expect interesting weather here in SW MO tonight and tomorrow, like thunderstorms and hail with flood warnings in the low places. Nothing but clouds and showers so far.
I was really tired last night and slept most of the morning. Then I went to visit DW at MC and picked up a bag of groceries on the way home. The nurses at MC tell me DW talks about me a lot, asking them if they know where I am. They think it's "cute" that she worries about my welfare and misses me.
I don't know why DW worries that someone might harm me. I have no enemies; I have outlived all of the SOBs. 😁
Judith, I think it is cowboys who sing to their herds, not goat ropers. It would make a cute video though, especially if the goats sing along.

Good afternoon Rockers.
Lorita. Lorita being weak is not good especially if your by yourself. I hope you have told Darwin, you need him to be aware. We worry about you.
GG. That was a real sweet thing that you gave Peggy's class ring to her friend M.M. That is something that would have made her very happy.
JeriLynn. Those goats are precious, I would love to be able to give them both a hug.
Carl. Your DW, sounds so sweet. It's nice she has settled in. She loves you and will worry about you for as long as she's alive. It is nice you're able to visit her as often, as you do. I will always remember, the days I would take my little dog Molly, with me. Molly would sit in the recliner with him and I would lay down on his bed and nap. We did this usually 3 times a week.
I had to go to the dentist today and get the lower denture lined up with the post. All the surgery's I have gone through, have healed and in 3 weeks I should have both dentures in. I've had the top ones in for 2 months now. I'm glad this is almost done, I don't know if I would want to go through this again.
Take care all, Hugs Zetta

Hi Been watching our weather group since about 3. I did take an hour nap before that. Tornados south and.north, now east and northeast of us.north and south of us.. I think I heard a hail stone or two during some heavy rain. Hopefully the storms in Eastern Oklahoma will Diminish.ones that might develop along the dry line in Western Okla.
Thank you all for the concern.. Judith I have had a diverticulitis flare. It began Thursday. This is the third or fourth time it has happened, the first time in 2014. My doctor gave ,me a script for Flagyl, the.medicine for it. I went on a full liquid diet. noon Thursday, went off it this morning and will gradually get back to normal food. Scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. Applesauce and yogurt during day. I was so weak this morning but after the eggs and toast felt better. Much better this afternoon. But I have this awful metallic taste from the medicine and have ten to go. Darwin knows I have been sick. He calls at 7:30 some am and pm. Called earlier this afternoon. I will be ok. Did walk out to barn to Ser if the girls were there. They were.
Now there are a Couple more tornados south and.north. We have had heavy rain. Hope all of you are safe. This is going into Arkansas. Loud thunder now. Another tornado near Evening Shade. You know there is a town in Okla! Called Going Snake with Strawberry Springs nearby. TTYL.

I thought that It likely a flare up. I hope you are adding Pedialite to your liquids. It is recommended. My friend who has had some flare ups was told to use it. I always have the powder on hand. Her foods have never been restricted (they used to say avoid seeds etc but no longer…you can google this). She does have to keep her fiber intake up though. My brother's Dr has said the same.
No response from my sister or her family. Oh, well.
Yes, the goats must be in the video too.
Carl…I have had the same thought about tornado alley shifting to the East.
1 -
We have tornadoes north and south of me but none near here, for which I am grateful. The warnings are in NW Arkansas and central Missouri, and watches in SW Missouri east of me, in the Ozarks around West Plains. I still have thunder and heavy rain, and the local TV station is telling everyone what part of the house to get to if you are in the warned area. It's a good night to stay in. I have some rice left over from my chicken/pepper/onion/carrot stir fry, so I opened a can of red beans to mix in. Just right for a rainy night.
Lorita, glad you and the girls are OK. I worry about you out there.
Zetta, my mother got dentures in the 1950s and wore the same set for 60 years. The set you are getting should last you forever so you shouldn't ever have to do this again. Burger King is still selling that Texas BBQ Bacon Whopper BTW.
Guess I'll charge my phone and go back to watching the weather news. TTYL

A tornado hit the oldest own in Oklahoma this evening,- Fort Gibson. The news showed a couple of pictures of the damage. Maybe the later news will have more information. It's a small town where a National Cemetery is located.
Judith, I didn't drink Pedialye. I had some.but didn't think of it. Stuck to water, juices and tea. I know they say things with seeds won't trigger a flare but way take the chance. If you have ever had it you don't want to eat anything that could possibly cause a flare it's very painful.
Your stir fry sounds good, Carl. We used to make stir fry often with fried rice. Love fried rice. Glad the tornados weren't near you. Been awfully stormy here. Thanks, Carl, I'll be okay.
Time for sleep. Good night, everyone

HB - Okay, that is SO funny about the caladiums (being toxic to kids and animals). It was so on brand for my mom to have those. She was a wonderful person and had many great characteristics, but knowing how to manage children, and know what was good/bad for them, was not a strength. I'm laughing even as I type this.
I'm glad your weather cleared up and I'm glad the baby shower had no shades of Erica Kane - the evening gown, while weird, seemed harmless.
eaglemom - no green thumb over here. I'm sitting here on the sidelines admiring everybody else's green thumbs! My thumb is most definitely not green. I think it's a shade between charcoal and black. Did you know that you can over water a cactus? I didn't.
Lorita - wow, about the painting. I hope your flare-up calms down.
Zetta - I'm glad everyone is home safe and sound. It sounds like a good trip was had by all.
Carl - It's the weirdest things that date us, and it's always a shock when it comes up. One of most hilarious things that comes up for me is when I show up at a goth club. I'd say every other time some young 20-something will come up to me and say "I'm so glad you're here." I know they mean it as a compliment, but man, it does not make me feel young. As I sit here listening to Death Guild online, "Bela Lugosi's Dead." (undead, undead, undead.)
And you know what, Carl? In the later stages, my sister was convinced that this persistent hallucination, The Lady, was out to harm me in some way. Could not convince her otherwise, even when I was there in person, all in one piece.
JeriLynn — wow! What beautiful goats. They both have such cute faces.
Beth - My mom used to make dirt cake. Her's was a bit different than yours. It was chocolate jello pudding with crushed oreo cookies covering the top. She'd also add gummy worms.
Thinking of all of you in the path of severe weather. I hope you all stay safe.
As for me, I spent a chunk of today cleaning my office. It needed a lot of love. I finally sat down a little while ago to listen to Death Guild, chat with my gothy friends, and catch up here. I've still got a few hours left in me.

Morning,
Quiet here at 4:27 am. I hope to go see the Country Flower Lady today before the storms set in.
I do NOT have a green thumb. I'm more of an "oh that's pretty, let's stick it in the ground here" gardener. My preference would be to have a professional be in charge. DH thinks not.
A goat video. I'll see what I can do. No singing. DH already thinks I'm crazy on a "normal" day, lol.
I have to deal with the Carpenter Bees on the front porch that have decided to eat the cedar hand-carved bench. I guess they got bored with drilling holes in my wood columns. Got some peppermint oil as deterrent. We have a couple of those jar thingys that captures them on the patio. But I hate those. It breaks my heart when one of the bees gets in there. I bought 4 spray bottles and 2 essential oil droppers. I guess we'll just smell like peppermint around here. Why do we have Carpenter Bees anyway? What is their job?
Beth, I have not made the dirt cake, but I have several relatives that used to bring that to family dinners. You are right, kids love it and it looks fun to make.
Lorita, we always have Pedialyte on hand for the goats. The Walmart brand. I'm thinking a "Flare Up Chart" posted on the fridge with a list of things to do might be helpful. Are you able to identify a "trigger" for the flares? Be safe today.
GG, I remember "The Lady". You were a good sister.
Judith, I hope you hear from your Sister or her family. It's so hard to watch and navigate these issues. I feel the same with my Aunt.
OK, it's 5 am now. I'm folding laundry before the day gets started. It will soon be light and time to let the chickens out. And DH will be up. See ya later.

Well, it's a little after 3am here, and I'm just winding down from my virtual visit to the club. 🙂 Fortunately I never plan early morning stuff for Tuesday mornings.

Morning, still hurting some but have three more days of Flagyl. Haven't read but will later. Weather is calm this morning. Back later.

Good morning. Slow start here today.
I hope all in the path of the extreme weather are safe. You all must be exhausted from being on alert constantly.
Lorita— I hope you're feeling better. Would your doctor OK something like Boost when you need to restrict your diet?
Carl— It sounds as if your DW is quite content to settle into her SNF. It's nice that you're able to visit so frequently.
Judith— Your thoughts on diverticulitis are in line with what we've been told as well. MIL had flares from time to time. Her very old school, small-town doc also advised against nuts, seeds and also fiber which, for her, meant constipation. My BIL, an ER doc in a teaching hospital tried to dissuade her but she had her heels dug in. When he moved her in with him, he took her to their best GI specialist and he wasn't able to convince her either. The battle to get her to take her prescribed fiber supplements to avoid flares was ongoing and frustrating for BIL and his wife.
Zetta— Your description of your visits with your DH is very like what my mom used to do. There were no pets involved but the two of them would nap in dad's bed for a couple hours a couple times a week.
Gothic G— It's funny the things that make us feel old. Getting "ma'am-ed" for instance.
Jerilynn— I've been meaning to ask, are those bows on GG Mama's horns? Or is it just bedding stuck to them? They kind of remind me of a picture I have of my nana taken in about 1898 when she was a little girl. It's a studio portrait of her, her older brother, younger sister and their really ugly pug. My mom pointed out that her grandmother had "pierced" the dog's ears to accommodate ribbons to match the girls. According to mom, who has all manner of awful stories about the woman, tracks.
___________________________________________________________________I am off to a slow start today. I need to vote in the primary, order a prescription refill for DH, schedule him a haircut and get an electrician in to replace an outlet/switch on GCI line. The switch is for the garbage disposal, and it's finally died. I need to track down a painter and someone to tidy my garden beds as my tendon isn't going to be up to the task.
DS and I made a Costco run. I needed to buy his sparkling water, DH's Diet Coke and some other stuff. I normally drop about $200 but we were out of things like deodorant, toothbrush heads, printer paper, and such so it was 2 carts and $300.
I threw the boys a bone and agreed to smash burgers at a nearby farm store. They have a lunch counter with freakishly good burgers and sandwiches. In the evenings, the folks running the place seem to be high schoolers. I bet some of them aren't even old enough to drive and yet they are meticulous and very professional at what they do. Yesterday, there were a bunch of free-range middle schoolers milling about and acting like idiots— they were amusing. It was like Dinner and a Show.
Be safe out there today.

Thanks, Judith, I read all of it. I checked my journals to when I had it in 2019 so I'm on the right track. It takes up to ten days to fully recover. Normally they give Ciprofloxacin and Flagyl. I can't take Ciprofloxacin but Flagyl seems to works, just takes time. I take Senokot to help prevent problems so no idea what caused this flare. I do need to get more fiber from food, so more vegetables, I guess although I already eat a lot of them. The only thing could be the English peas. Need to find early, more tender ones.
HB, its a clear liquid diet. Don't know about Boost but I can drink it now. Just had a piece of toast, instant mashed potatoes and a little cottage cheese. Need to order some cream of wheat and a couple more things. On top of this, my right knee is bothering me. My Tommie copper knee sleeve has gotten too big so need to get a new set.
Time for Wagon Train, Zetta and need to give Rusty his apple slices.

Good afternoon all. Finally checking in on everyone. The puppy had a vet appt this morning, then DH had PT. We hurried home as the AC guy was to be here by 2:00 (its now almost 4:00) to do summer service. The termite inspection was to be at 3:00 and he's "running late, will have to reschedule." So half of my list has gotten done. I'll be calling the AC guy shortly to see where he's at. The rest of the week is scheduled as full as I want so things will have to be pushed back to the next week.
Beautiful day here, even though its windy. We did have quite the storm last night though. When the phone rings in the middle of the night - it just scares me. It was a weather warning - they called twice. DH was sound asleep through the phone ringing, but when he heard me respond to the call he immediately sat up saying "what's happening? Hello" Except I had the phone! I told him it was fine, he laid back & was out immediately. This morning he has no memory of it!
The picture of the peonies - oh my goodness. The are beautiful. We are just too far south, or that's what I tell myself, to grow them. What a beautiful color. I can smell them through the picture!
Need to get ready for a board meeting in the morning. And then of course there is the ever present dinner to get ready in a bit. And lets not forget, the call to the AC guy. Let's all be safe out there.

After Madison's vet appt, we needed to stop at Home Depot! She loves going shopping!!!

HB, that’s straw/grass from grazing. No earrings. DH will not allow gussied up goats🙄🤣
Got 6 pink hydrangeas, some white petunias for a couple patio pots, some purple spiky something, 2 pink butterfly bushes and dug some kind of tall, wavy purple flowers at Huntland and some pepper + more tomato plants. 50# cracked corn for the geese and 50# dog food. And lavender. The whole car was full.
Tornado watch currently until 10pm. Storms moving in around 6pm. Im’ma be upset if the weather gets my new gardens. But always pray for safety. I can re-plant if I have to.0 -
Lorita—
Judith is right. Senokot is a stimulant laxative. You might want to ask your doctor about slowly introducing something like Metamucil as a source of fiber.
Eagle— Looks like Madison enjoyed her outing. I managed 1 1/2 things on my to-do list today. That reminds me— I need to call the HVAC folks. Here's hoping the contractor reaches out in the next day or two.
