Walgreen is chronically understaffed also. The location I use has reduced pharmacy hours to one shift per day and close for lunch, because the pharmacy techs are forbidden by State law to sell a prescription if the pharmacist is not present. Walgreen is filling some of the prescriptions at a central location 200 miles away, and they do vaccinations by appointment only by sending us to a location that isn't as busy of most of their pharmacies.
There is a shortage of pharmacists. A pharmacist has to complete a 6-year college degree and work for a year as an intern in order to become registered. That's a lot of time and expense. Pharmacists are well paid ($150,000 p.a. in MO, a low wage State) but that still means the students have to live simply into their mid-20s and most people don't want to do that.
Beth, thank you for the information. I'll hold off on the shots for another month or more.
I'm sure I will be exposed to illness since I can't stand to sit alone in the house all winter. My County never was more than 50% vaccinated even during the worst of the pandemic, when hospitals had temporary buildings set up in their parking lots, and it will be no better this winter. I will just rely on masks, vaccines, and my natural immunity to keep going. And keep some chicken soup, rice and applesauce in the pantry for when that doesn't work.
HB, I didn't get my blood pressure under control until I reduced my caretaker role to one person plus myself. Is there time in your very busy schedule for stress relief?
It is unfortunate that this country politicizes everything from health care to the kind of car we drive, but that is how we live now.

Lorita - I saw an article this morning on the Rolling Stone website about whether or not this administration will try to ban Covid vaccines outright. The answer seems to be "maybe", although when asked about this, the administration gave a "no comment" answer. Even so, the authors of the article are not recommending that everyone rush out and get vaccinated right now. Anyway, just something to be aware of. As for myself, I'm planning on getting vaccinated when the new vaccines become available. I'll probably get my flu shot sometime in October.
Hi Sandy! I don't think I've said hi before. I live on the west coast, and am originally from California, now living in WA state.
I hope you continue to mend from your stroke.
HB - I'm guilty as charged. I got up at the crack of noon - but I stayed up last night until almost 4am, so I have an excuse? 😄
I second everything Carl said about stress and caregiving. In my case my BP wasn't at issue, but I was grinding my teeth, and I have a really bad habit of chewing my fingers. My nails are hard, so I can't chew those, so when I'm super stressed I chew the skin around the nails. There is a direct correlation between the condition of my fingers and my stress level. Now that I'm not caregiving, I don't grind my teeth (haven't for awhile), and my fingers are pristine. Placing Peggy in memory care helped as well. Of course back then, nothing was going to get rid of all my stress. But you do what you can do.
Beth - That's how I am - if I even look at the sun, I tan (and there goes my goth card!). I have olive skin, but even so, I use sunscreen.
Thanks for all of the info on vaccines!! Very useful.
I didn't watch the interview with Bruce Willis' wife, although I read a review of it. It's all just too close to what my sister went through with her diagnosis. I feel for him and all of his family.
About the boot camp - it was five days long, and the main difference was that for anything I did, he either added more reps or more weight, sometimes both. The other difference was that he added more cardio - like using the sled, which you push and pull. It's not the most exciting exercise, but it's effective. In that case, he added an extra two reps and added an extra 15 pounds. One of the days last week we did almost a full hour of escrima (the stick fighting). When I exercise on my own, I don't work that hard. On my own, I'm mostly doing maintenance, getting in more time on the treadmill, or doing exercises that I feel I didn't get enough of when working out with him.

Oh my gosh! I just saw that a woman gave birth at Burning Man. She didn't even know she was pregnant!
From the article:
After his wife gave birth, Kasey Thompson recalled running outside the R.V. to call for “anyone to come help us.” He was met with a neonatal care nurse, a pediatric doctor and an obstetrician-gynecologist, as well as other festivalgoers, he said in the interview.
Sounds like Burning Man! 😄

I second that wish. Mint. I'm afraid those times are gone forever but hope I'm wrong.
It has been a busy day. This morning when I was petting Stormy I found all the hair was gone under his chin, around his neck and it was moist. I put new collars on them a while back and the buckle is square so I think it had rubbed his neck. Cleansed it with peroxide and put on Neosporin but it kept bugging me. I thought he might need an antibiotic so when Bryon and T came I took him to the vet.
He's only open until noon and doesn't take appointments today. I got there about 11:45 which turned out to be perfect timing. Since there was hardly anyone in the clinic Stormy did all right. Mike said it had been irritated by the buckle and had turned into a hot spot. He gave him an antibiotic shot and allergy shot with meds to take at home. He said to spray that area and some others on His back with Hexa Spray. Also said I should probably have their hair cut pretty short next spring. He doesn't have a groomer but they gave me a card for one. Both of the GPs have a little.bit of trouble getting up and he said it is arthritis. I give them glucosamine chews but he said those don't work too well. After he finishes the Prednisone he will start them.on arthritis meds. Sheena is a little over eleven and Stormy is a little over ten. When I was checking out I had my open purse on the counter and the clinic cat was very interested in something that was in it - no idea what.
The roads were good. Bryon and T (that's what Bryon calls him) mowed, weedeated and cut down several broken limbs (a trailer full they took to the brush pile). He put the charger on the PU when they came and by the time they were ready to go, it started. He cleaned out leaves where a mouse had tried to make a nest and put in four of those mouse repel packets under the hood. I drove up to the station and got diesel in it- I think it's full. Felt good to drive it. I will drive it around a couple of sections every other day to keep it charged. Several lights on the dash are staying on.
Ron, glad it wss nothing serious.Could the runny nose maybe be allergies? Our allergy season is beginning and my.nose is drippy with itchy eyes. I don't want to get either vaccine until later -usually wait until the end of October…I'm not around people very much and a!says wear a mask so that should sufficeth. May be I enroll but when my groceries are delivered I wipe them down with Lysol wipes. Just makes me feel better.
GG,I can't imagine someone not knowing they were going to have a bsby.but guess it does happen. Have fun on your trip, Beth. One of Carol's daughters wss born in Iowa and this year she and her husband went to the Iowa Fsir. Do they have the cow made out of. butter every year?
I don't use WM pharmacy and our town doesn't have CVS.but does have a smaller pharmacy I use. Wait time at WM is way too long. My home town has a population of about 200 and the closest bigger town is around 4,000- no.grocery store. We did have two nice ones but WM drove them.out of business. I better stop. Sandy, keep posting!

GG, new life at Burning Man—what a memory! I had one mom who was not aware she was pregnant. Fortunately the baby delivered okay.
GG, I read that Tai Chi and other gentle martial arts are good for older adults. Have you tried any of these?
I plan to get both Covid and influenza vaccinations in October.
I picked up a Covid/influenza test kit but I will test tomorrow. I'm not as sick as I was with Covid or influenza, so I believe this is a simple rhinitis. My throat is not tickling but my nose is running. Question: does your nose run and do your feet smell? Maybe you were born upside down!
(This is a kid joke from my childhood.)
My rental unit's gas pipe has leak beneath the walkway. This should be a common area issue. No work to be done over the holiday weekend, they will follow up on Tuesday.
I'm going to rest up the rest of the day. So long.
Iris

Iris, we have had calves born upside down and backwards - not easy.
GG news about the Burning Man birth was on the world news tonight. Why do they call it Burning Man?
I guess I lifted too much today because that dollar sized spot in my back feels like I imagine a knife sticking in it would feel.
Iris, isn't a gas leak dangerous? Years ago we had a propane leak under our house. We kept filling the tank and the propane company decided something was wrong and had it checked. We never smelled anything. Charles was a smoker so guess we were lucky nothing bad happened..

Lorita, there is a butter cow sculpture at the Iowa State Fair every year. In fact, there are also other sculptures each year too - I think it was Toy Story figures this year.
To see them, google Iowa State Fair butter cow images.

Legalize marijuana, ban covid vaccines. That's no goofier than some other things that go on.

Iris - I haven't tried Tai Chi, although I'm not opposed to it - I'd probably like it. I like the more vigorous martial arts because I find them relaxing (which probably sounds weird). They're also confidence boosters. I know that where I am now, I can defend myself, if I need to. And honestly, I'm in my later 60s, so how much longer can I do this? Who really knows, so I might as do it while I can.
Lorita - You made me think about this! Burning Man is many different things to different people. I think at the beginning (the mid-80s), the founder was in a mid-life crisis and so he and some friends built a wooden man on the beach (in San Francisco) and then burned it down. It probably felt good to him on some level. As the years have gone by, it's morphed into what it is now. Here's a brief history (large print + lots of photos). By the way, The Man burns tonight - actually, in about 3 hours (it's 5:47, my time. Here's where you can watch The Man burn live, if you want. It's not really all that exciting, if I'm being totally honest. Here's the Burning Man website - you can see some images that capture the vastness of it all.
Some people go there for the week long party and all the drugs and alcohol you could possibly want. That's never been of interest to me. I've enjoyed it because I like camping in the desert, I like visiting and/or interacting with the art installations. One year our camp created an art gallery - we even had an art show opening, complete with canapés and champagne! I like Death Guild's Thunderdome (which is exactly what you think it is), I like running into random friends in the middle of the night. And I really like the randomness of the whole thing - like the time I was wandering around the playa, and in the middle of nowhere I came upon a snow cone machine with different flavored snow cones. How random is that?

Beth - I also saw that (banning Covid vaccines). There was an article on the Rolling Stone website this morning. I put a link in as well.

NBC said the baby born at Burning Man weighed 3 lb, 9 oz, so I'm guessing it was premature. That might explain how Mama didn't know she was pg. That was an interesting story posted by GG about BM. All I ever hear about BM is the drugs and promiscuity and burning a really large scarecrow, and I always assumed there was more to it than that. Why drive to the desert to do what can be done so easily in San Francisco?
Amateur fireworks tonight at the County park just west of my home. It has been really dry, hope they don't burn it off.
The Youtube videos about vaccines aren't available. Maybe Youtube took them down because they are bogus? Hope so.

You know,if all the pros who develop and/or update the vaccines to take care of mutations in the germ have been fired, how are we to know if the vaccine is right or even good and safe to take.. Scary times we are living through.

I've been coughing and sniffling all day. Better tomorrow I hope.
Lorita, the gas company shut down the gas line. Plumber says it's safe. I've got to go, coughing too much.

Glad they did, Iris. Hope you feel better. When I wss little and wss coughing my mother would put a little salt in my hand and tell me to touch my tongue to it and swallow to stop coughing. It worked!
Good night, everyone.

Morning,MInt, you're awake early. Hope everything is ok. I woke up about 5 and guess I got my sleep out. The GPs are still asleep And guess the cats are, too. I close the door at night so they aren't in the bedroom. But they rattle the doorknob sometimes when they want in. The weaher msn says we may have some rain today and tomorrow so glad the grass is mowed. I forgot to talk to him about painting the porches. I have the paint but too big a job for me. The cats are awake!!
Bryon said he saw a copperhead out by my car yesterday. Tried to kill it but it went under the fence, then came back through toward him and went under his mower. No telling where it is now so guess I better look where I walk. Not sure what a copperhead looms like but they are poisonous.
Guess I'll turn on the tv and see what's on. I watch news shows on Sunday morning, Dr. Stanley and Denim & Co.
Mint, how are your vegetables thIs year? Are you canning things? I hope your mother is doing well. I know it's a relief to you to know she's being cared for. Has she adjusted to the MC?
I will be back later.

I took down my post about the President and RFK JR banning Covid vaccines. They were "unavailable" from this site. However, both are still available on YouTube. Here is where to find them, if you are so inclined. One is on Ring of Fire and is called "Trump and RFK Jr are planning to ban covid vaccines." The other is on The David Pakman Show and is called "Deranged Trump is going to ban the covid vaccine."

Good morning—
Carl— most PharmD programs near me are 4 years postgraduate, so not paid until about 26 and likely with considerable student debt. My state university alma mater's program is 2 years of classroom instruction and 2 more clinical years but no paid internship. $21K/year which is reasonable compared to some places. My niece with a MPH does better at a Big Pharma company, and I imagine a PharmD would do even better and get weekends and nights off. No wonder there's a shortage.
Gothic G— Burning Man Baby will have quite the origin story.
Lorita— I hope your back is feeling better after some rest and that poor Stormy's neck heals quickly. Salt for a cough is a new one for me; I'm absolutely going to try it.
The strains of the virus for the vaccines were determined about 3 months ago. They're based on the LP.8.1 strain which is a descendent of Omicron so not completely unlike last year which is similar to what happens with the annual flu shots.
Iris— I hope this is just a short-lived pesky summer cold for you.
Beth— I'm not surprised those videos were taken down; there's a lot of craziness on You Tube. The list of underlying conditions that can qualify someone under 65 is quite extensive and interesting reading. Substance Use Disorder, Physical Inactivity, ADHD? I suppose this could also change.
I was happy to see they included a reference to Pemgarda; it's been very helpful for my bestie who has primary immune deficiency._______________________________________________________________
Carl and Gothic— I suspect you're right that "caregiving" is impacting my BP. I'm not so much a caregiver in the traditional sense but rather responsible for maintaining mom's illusion of independence and her emotional wellbeing. It's emotionally exhausting. I think I may be "clenching" in my sleep, too. Most mornings my jaw is sort of tired.
Today would have been her 69th wedding anniversary; dad was diagnosed exactly 9 years ago today which means I have been in this supporting role all that time.
I volunteered to take mom to the cemetery this afternoon and then DH and I will take her out to the steakhouse if she's interested.
This site continues to amuse me at random times. Evidently, I posted a naughty word yesterday and found myself edited. See if you can guess what I originally wrote. There could also be resentment in play if she is upset to have lost driving privileges; dad insulted mom's driving in a DELETED for tat manner because she was the one who had to enforce him not driving.
HB0 -
Yes, I know and probably everyone over 50 knows what a t.. for tat is. Is southern ladies back in the 50s and 60s used that expression, I see how its dirty.
0 -
Dear editors,,,DELETED for tat. Is that what you edited?
DELETED for tat
is an English saying meaning "equivalent retaliation". It developed from "tip for tap", first recorded in 1558.

Do you all remember months ago I was trying to find L'Origan perfume, my fragrance for over 60 years that is no longer made? Well, yesterday and today when I turn on my tablet an ad for L'Orignale perfume appears. Only costs $150 - I won't be.buying that! Is something keeping tabs on our shopping ideas? Also happens when I.look for something on Amazon or WM.
I didn't know if something that might be offensive is posted that it would be deleted. Still Cloudy here. We had a few sprinkles earlier.

Good Sunday afternoon. Grey and overcast out, which is fine with me. Not much else happening here. We did watch Kansas State football yesterday evening. As much as I like football, I will admit the game was rather boring. We one, but as they as, it wasn't a pretty win.
DH's coughing continues. It is a small bit bitter though. Yesterday he was very clingy, thus nothing really got accomplished. Today he's ok, but I'm betting clingy happens soon!
My new car had a flat yesterday - stupid roofing nails. I didn't see any point in calling AAA to put the donut on then I'd have to go to the tire store. So I wagged out the air compressor and aired the tire up & went to the tire store. Its not 2 miles from us so it was very safe. Its all fixed now. I'm just glad it didn't happen when I was on the highway.
DH just realized he's not had lunch!! I guess I'd better go make that happen for him. Let's me careful everyone.

My car has a donut spare, too. I didn't want to have that but I do. Still thinking about getting a regular spare but where would it be kept?. Would take up too much of the back. When I had my Mustang I rotated the tires myself-I was 24!

Yes, the data miners keep track of what we post. I posted something about using nitrous oxide (NO) as an anesthetic for dental surgery and received ads for NO for weeks (NO is a legal recreational drug). And now I will receive the ads again, I suppose.
On another board, a veteran posted that his military service had been at the Redstone Arsenal, and it came out Redstone ****nal. It's the site computer trying to keep us civil, but it doesn't work. You may be as vulgar as you wish if you misspell the words, i.e. "My girl dog is a biotch."
A spoonful of honey helps dry coughing. That's an old home remedy repeated to me by a nurse practitioner, and it works for me.
I hope you sickies get well soon. I called SIL yesterday and her daughter told me SIL's sister had visited overnight and gave them a cough, so I'm postponing my visit. Only Labor Day, and here we are already! (Sigh)

Bad news, I tested positive for Covid, ugh! I'll have to cancel my trip.

Iris— I am so very sorry about you missing out on your trip to KY.

Hello Rockers.
Lorita. I bet your glad your road may be getting fixed, and got your PU running. How is Stormys neck? I have had that happen before, so I make sure the collars are as loose as possible. Aren't Copperheads, rattle shakes? If I saw one of those, I would probably never go outside. Was the lawnmower running when it went under it?
Thanks, for the tip on the to help stop coughing, I will surely try that. Also the honey, Carl, talked about. Yes it's been very hot here in Arizona, I'm looking forward to the Idaho, weather. I sure wish they would quit messing around with Wagon Train.
Iris. I pray 🙏 your feeling better, and not another case of covid. Your always so busy, take care and get some rest.
Eve. I wish I had a one stop, everything, I really don't like driving much anymore.
Ron. Im glad you went to ER, and happier nothing serious was found. Get some rest 😴
GG. In my late 60s, I never would have been able to do the work outs you do. I'm pretty active, but not strong. I hope your bones are strong, and not getting brittle as you age. Keep it up as long as you can. I think the yoga, was causing my glutes, to hurt. I have stopped yoga, and they still hurt, not sure why.
Eaglemom. I also hate those donut tires, it was good you were not on a highway, and good you were close to a tire shop. Donut tires are not safe. That's probably what I have in my car.
HB. That was sweet of you, to offer to take your mom to the cemetery, I don't see how she could pass up the Steakhouse. YUM. Who would have edited your word? There have been some post, that should have been completely edited.
Sandy. It's nice hearing from you. I'm sorry about the stroke, hopefully your recovering as much as you can. Is your horse, home and walking better. How is your Turtle? Is it a big one? Please make sure if you're walking around, be safe so as not to get dizzy and fall.
I will be going to the doctor on Tuesday, to get all my meds updated, before our move, that will happen the end of September. I will then get the flu or covid shots , what ever if any the doctor will give me.
Take care all. Hugs Zetta

Good afternoon all,
Woke up this morning to another power outage, yesterday and one last week as well. Glad we have a backup generator.
I appreciate the posts regarding flu and COVID vaccines. Being old and immunocompromised I am in favor of keeping my vaccines current.
HB - I clench my teeth so hard at night I wake with a headache. I think in my case a night guard is in order.
EagleMom - ugh, sorry about the flat tire on your new car. My last flat happened just as we returned home from shopping. I too was grateful it didn’t happen on the highway.
Iris - I’m SO sorry you tested positive and need to cancel your trip! Hope it’s mild and you’re feeling better soon.A very nice gesture… our pool maintenance person brought BBQ beef, rolls and coleslaw to us this afternoon a real treat! Grateful for thoughtful neighbors and friends
Missing one of our outdoor semi feral cats today Off to do a walkabout to look for him.
Stay safe everyone. I hope you’re able to do something just for yourself.
Eve

Zetta I.have sprayed Stormy's neck three times today. Hard to be able to see it. Hexa Spray works really well for hot spots. I think I may just keep their collars off until I need to take them somewhere.
Iris, so sorry about the positive test. Do you think you got it from someone on your last trip? What will you take for it?
Darwin brought over some more vegetables and I took down the trash. That's the extent of what happened today except feeding cats and GPs, giving meds, eating and watching tv. Oh, did take a short nap. The yard and.north and west of the house looks good after being mowed and weedeated. They also took down some broken limbs, one about 20 ft. Up. He mows the sides of the driveway down to the mailbox and all around the entry.
Zetta, he said the snake went under his running mower…No idea where it went. There are copper heads and water moccasins here. Guess I don't know what copper heads look.like. Bryon was concerned because the snake was close to where I.park and the rain gauge. I guess I'll just have to watch where I walk. I didn't think there were rattle snakes around here but a couple.of years ago.I saw the rattles hanging on a rear view mirror taken from a.big one They have a.big rattle snake.hunt every year somewhere in Okla. Judith may know where. Why I do not know.
Carl, I.hope you get some rain.. We may get some, maybe, almost every day this week. Just let the GPs out for awhile. It's cool enough that most of the girls aren't coming to the barn during the dsy. Good for them that it is cooler. For us, too.
Good night, everyone. Iris, hope you feel better soon.

Iris, so sorry you are ill and will miss your trip. I hope you have a mild case and are able to get back to feeling well and traveling again.
