GG, thanks for the link to the video. Very interesting. Looks like we just need to enjoy the movies even though the dinosaurs aren't realistic. .Guess they change things to make it scarier. That guy really seemed to know what he wss talking about. I really did enjoy watching it.

Cloudy and cool here this morning. We had some rain last night with more to come.We really need it. I hear some ranchers have resorted to using City water because their ponds are so low..

I actually stayed in bed until almost 10. Did wake up about 7_ just laid there and watched tv. Looks like it's almost time to get out winter tops, already got the warm lounge pants out and wearing them. Kind of dreading winter!

HB. Glad the painters are on the job today. Your house color sounds nice. I need to have Bryon paint my porches before winter if we can find a good weekend.

Beth I just cannot figure out how that rat got in there. Not through the windows and the bottom of the car should not have holes in it. I left the back.open a long time yesterday so hope it got out.

Mint, hope today is better for you.

Good morning. First the first time in a long, long time I slept all night without waking up once! What a good night!

GG, I watched the video about the earthquake barbell, wow, that is some workout. You did that? Good for you!

Ron, your poor grandmother! I'm glad your aunt was around to help with her dignity.

Beth, a Starbucks moved in not far from me, but I've never been there. The Red Cups sound very nice for people who drink there.

HB, you do a lot for your mom, DH and DS, what do you do for yourself besides watch paint dry?

Today is National Bologna Day. Bologna became famous during the Depression. Who doesn't remember bologna sandwiches for school lunches? My mouth is watering, although I never eat those now.

iris, my go to sandwich back in the day was pb & j.

I feel bad for the chickens today! It was suppose to rain all day and all we’ve had is a few sprinkles. DIL told me to let them out for a little while since it wasn’t raining at the time, but put them back in the coup. I did exactly what u was asked to do and it wore me out chasing down one hen. HR was at 110 and I decided even though it’s still not raining I’m not messing with them anymore. Was thinking about going and picking up some sausage and that hen with the sausage would be good in a pot of gumbo.

Ron, that's so funny but I know how you feel. Thanks for making me laugh You know those chickens will go back in the hen house when it starts to rain. At least ours did. We bought 120 day old chicks, Half hens and half roosters.. When they were big enough we had the roosters dressed out to put in the freezer. Of course I couldn't eat any but Charles said it wouldn't bother him. He took one.bite and that was it. We raised them.and did all the good things for them. Only lost one when our little dog knocked a brick onto one. My.parents got the spoils. We sold eggs at the VA, extra large and jumbo, for fifty cents a. dozen. It was s lot of work so we sold them. That's my.chicken story.

A couple of years ago I saw a sign at the feed store where someone was selling chickens for $12 each! Wonder what they sell for now. It's raining!

I remember bologna sandwiches. We even had bologna heated on a griddle when Mom wasn't home to cook for us. The slices curled into a sombrero shape. Fried egg or PB&J sandwiches were better. Ron's gumbo would be a LOT better.

My in-laws were at a horse racetrack in California once, and two men sitting in front of them were working out their bets. When they agreed, one of them went to place the bets. The race started, and the horse they had agreed on won. One man was cheering, but the one who placed the bets sat glumly. When the excitement died, he confessed that he had changed his mind on the way to the betting window and bet on another horse. His friend said "Oh, well, back to bologna sandwiches."

I got my flu and covid shots today while I picked up my BP prescription and stocked up on vitamins with the 20% off coupon they gave me for getting the shots. I already have some chicken soup for when I catch cold, so all I need is a jar of locally grown honey for the cough I may or may not get and I'll be set for winter. The furnace man is coming in early November to make sure my furnace is OK and change the filters.

Lorita, I'll bet tooting your horn like a steamboat will scare the rodent out of your car, especially since you have found and removed his bed and pantry.

I will try that, Carl. Never have eaten much meat. The only bologna sandwich I ever ate was years ago.. Karen and I usually had lunch together but this day I didn't bring mine. Karen had a bologna and onion sandwich and we split it. It was pretty good. I do remember fried spam sandwiches and they were good. Never had a fried egg sandwich but do like scrambled egg ones.

Carl, I’m glad now I stopped by the porch again. When you told the horse racing story reminded of one of mine. My wife and I use to put out a tip sheet at Louisiana Downs, didn’t bet that often unless we felt really good about the bet. There was this one owner/trainer that had two horses and never put them on the racetrack unless they were ready to win, which they did the past two years. It came time he brought them to the track, I had to work and gave my wife $100 to put on the horse to win. The horse won at 12 to 1 odds only to find out later that my wife and her friend got to talking and decided to bet another horse. I asked her if she had lost all 100$ I had given her, she said yes, but reminded me I lost $200 the last time I went. I Told her, YES BUT I KNOW HOW TO GAMBLE! When the second horse ran we did get all our money back.

Isn't the motor and everything under the hood shut off from the rest of the car with a firewall.or something? Just googled it and it said there can be openings around the frame. When I take it in maybe they can check. Meanwhile will spray every day with Grandpa Gus, however it says it isn't the scent that repels them.. Guess I wss being good to them unknowingly. If it was a lady rat glad she didn't have babies. Would have had to call Darwin for help if that was the case.

Still raining.Haven't been out to check the rain gauge.

Grandpa Gus…and we are back to peppermint oil!!!

Rodents can chew through a firewall. They will definitely enjoy any/all food you leave in the car. Going a step further snakes are always looking for mice.

    God bless city living…lol

Don't say that word, Judith. I have had enough of them. You would love the country! And we haven't even talked about wild hogs, wolves , coyotes and panthers.

About ready to go into bed and watch tv. Darwin said he had 2.5" of rain. Good night, everyone.

I’m full! Son and DIL took me to Ref Lobster and even though I’m not suppose to eat big meals, I couldn’t stop. Lou and I use to eat at Red Lobster all the time and anytime I asked her if she wanted to eat out, Red Lobster is what she always said. They shut down the only one we had in Louisiana a few years ago, but her dementia was so far along by then that it didn’t matter. I had given my son a key chain with the letter (L) on it. He pulled it out of his pocket, laid it on the table and said “mommy is here with us”.

    Sleep tight everyone

    Iris,

yes, there are places in Australia where snow falls. There are high mountains on the east coast [the Australian Alps] which regularly have snow, and have ski resorts during winter. Also the island to the south, Tasmania, has regular snow on the highest peaks, and also on the lower levels during winter. Inland, there are sometimes snow scurries which melt as they hit the ground.

Despite all of that, I have never seen snow myself!

Morning we had rain during the night and it's barely daylight now. I think it's supposed to.be rainy today, too.

Looking forward to the Thunder game tonight. Their first two games of the season ended up with wins for them in two double overtimes. Should be a good one tonight. I noticed that Mark Cuban sold his majority of the Dallas Mavericks for $3.5 billion.Must be nice. Enjoy your Ssturday.

Basketball fans, there is a Netflix documentary on called "Starting Five." It follows some NBA players through the season. I haven't watched it (yet). Season 2 features Tyrese Haliburton and SGA and I don't know who else. By the way I see SGA had 55 points in the last game! He is amazing!

Football fans, there is also a Netflix documentary called "Quarterback." This last season featured Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins and Jared Goff; prior season was Marcus Mariota, Kirk Cousins and Patrick Mahomes. I watched both seasons and it was good.

There is also one called "Receivers." "Peyton Manning's documentary crew follows wide receivers Justin Jefferson (MIN), Amon-Ra St. Brown (DET), Davante Adams (LVR), Deebo Samuel (SF), and George Kittle (SF) through the 2023 season, chronicling their on-field exploits as well as their home life. I won't be watching that one as I don't "know" those players.

Barbara, I like to Ser snow fall if they're. big flakes which doesn't happen often here in the daytime. Used to like to get out in it and take pictures. Just too hard taking care of cattle though. I remember getting the snow out of the bunk feeders before we put the feed in. We have been snowed in several times without power.

Have any of you all ever had ice cream cake? I haven't but looks good. They showed how to make it on Cook's Country this morning I will never do thst. No Ice cream shop within 25 miles so.guess I can eat ice cream and cake.. Just saw they are going to make moon pies on ATK. I have done that.

Just watched it and I.guess I made a knock-off. I used a cake mix to make the big cookies and marshmallow cream inside, no chocolate on the outside. Good anyway. There is a saying about moon pies and RC Cola, not remembering it tight now. Ron, you're from the South so maybe you will know it. .Now I want a moon pie and apple pie. Not quite recovered enough for those things though.

The leaves were very late about turning, but they are beautiful now that they are turning.

I made an apple pandowdy today. It looks good. Had never made this before.

Hope you are continuing to sleep well Iris.

Ron we sill have a Red Lobster. Haven't been there in a long time but I like it.

Good morning. For the second night in a row I slept all night! This is amazing to me! I hope I can continue.

Barbara, watching snowflakes fall is enchanting.

Judith, what is Paul Reed famous for?

Lorita, having ice cream cake was a regular treat when I was growing up. I believe Baskin Robbins still sells ice cream cake. It comes as a cake roll.

Mint, I'm sure your apple pandowdy was tasty!

I thought I was supposed to pick up my friend from the convalescent home today, but it is next Saturday. Well, now I can do some errands.

Hello my porch friends. I've been reading but haven't been writing. DH has had far too many appointments. It seems that's all we do. Then this appointment refers you on to see another doctor and appointment.

I'll share my bologna story. When I was growing up I decided I didn't like bologna. I dug my heels in and refused to eat it. Dad said he was fixing a "great" dinner one night. He fried bologna - but I didn't realize it was bologna and loved it! I wouldn't eat eat it cold, but fried it wasn't bologna anymore.

I've got to run and get a prescription. Back later. let's be careful out there.

I have had ice cream cake from Dairy Queen and liked it even if it was soft serve "ice cream" instead of the real thing. I have loved chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream all my life. Most of the Moon Pies I have eaten were from vending machines and stale, so I never acquired a taste for them. I learned yesterday that Oreos offers a "Selena Gomez" version with chocolate and cinnamon creme filling. I didn't buy any because they aren't on my diet and because they were priced at $6.50 for an 11-ounce package, but I'll bet they're good.

Iris, I'm glad you're sleeping. I sleep through the night on occasion, when I am really sleepy, but not very often.

I spent a couple of hours with my son this morning. We had coffee, biscuits with apple butter, hash browns with onions, and fried eggs. That isn't on my diet any more than the Oreos, but it tasted good.

Iris…I am facinated with "color theory" so I have really been looking forward to this exhibit.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_theory

This major retrospective, the first devoted to the artist, will present a survey of Paul Reed’s art and accomplishments from his early days as a graphic designer in 1950s New York to his success as one of the founding artists of the Washington Color School in the 1960s to the aesthetic reinventions of his later work. Reed’s life was devoted to art and endless exploration of the many and varied properties of and approaches to form, color, and light. Throughout his career spanning six decades, Reed worked in a wide variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, collage, graphic design, and computer-generated and enhanced imagery. His lifetime achievement as an artist, prolific production, and the variety of materials, techniques, and strategies explored in his art rank him as one of America’s most significant painters active in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

Paul Reed: A Retrospective is guest curated by David Gariff, PhD, senior lecturer at the National Gallery of Art, and will consist of over one hundred paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. The checklist is drawn primarily from OKCMOA’s permanent collection with additional loans from important museum and private collections.

This exhibition has been 8 years in the creation and will travel forward to other museums.

Good morning. The painter is back today. He did a first coat of the lightest color, and we both agreed it needed to be lighter still. Project creep includes 2 more gallons of paint.

I need to scrub the hall bath. I bought a battery-operated scrubber that's like an oversized electric toothbrush at Costco. Highly recommend. The thing is a demon on the grout.

After, I hit the ATM ahead of meeting friends for dinner tonight. Fancy Italian is on the menu. I bought a Chiante Classico that got a 93 in Wine Spectator and a Cali Chardonnay as back-up.

I never ate much lunch meat growing up. If mom roasted a turkey or beef we might get that, otherwise it was PB&J, grilled cheese or tuna salad. DS will take deli meat sandwiches for lunch when he works; I don't buy bologna because I can't stand the smell or texture of it at 7am. He got PB&J today. He was happy and I didn't have to touch meat. So yay!

Ron— I'm glad you were able to extricate yourself from the tub. Was the tub a standard size or scaled to a travel trailer? How does it heat water?

Lorita— So your refrigerator has risen from the dead? That's different.

I've had Carvel and Baskin-Robins ice cream cake, but the ones made by the local creamery are so much better.

Iris— I'm glad your sleep is improved. Poor sleep is so frustrating.

Beth— I'm glad you had a successful colonoscopy.

Barbara— Snow is pretty when you're inside and don't have to be anywhere. Especially if you have a snow blower.

Eaglemom— I know that pattern of a single appointment begetting at least one another appointment. Mom and I got stuck in that vortex last winter. I hope things improve soon for you both.

Carl— The Selena Gomez Oreos are lovely. I have a friend who makes it her mission to try each of the Orea collaborations. The Post Malone (salted caramel swirl) and Blueberry Pie were pretty good, too.

Judith— I could have used a lesson in color theory this week. The painter did most of my mid-tone areas and then the lightest color which read almost the same as the midtone. Not the look we were going for. The painter helped me select an off-white with a hint of green to it— "Iconic White". It'll cost me an additional 2 gallons of paint but will spare me hating myself whenever I drive up to the house. Painter was gracious about it. It looks so much better already.

HB…I need that scrubber. Please tellme more about it.

Color is tricky. I usually buy a quart of paint and apply it to styrofoam board. That way it can be seen in varying light for periods of time.

I had a client who was insistent that her bedroom walls were two different colors. I had to use painted poster board to assure that only one color war used. I did, however, repaint one wall with a second color, my expense, to solve what she viewed as a problem.
