Just need to talk to my friends (211)

DId he give you a ticket, Judith? I got a speeding ticket once in Haskell. At least he made your day!
Another problem, what else! Thought I would turn on the propane stove to see if it was okay. Pilot light finally came on but really low. When I went to the next step it went out. Guess I will have to call Jeremy(plumber). It may just need cleaning. No big hurry.
Cloudy and cool here. Layers for sure. I broke out the buffalo check flannel pants and a sweater this morning. I think it's supposed to be in the 50s Wednesday.

Good morning. Well, I broke my restful three night record, I woke up once during the night. I still got in nine hours of sleep.
The weather here in SoCal is still warm enough for short sleeves and shorts. I never wear flip-flops outdoors but many people do. No rain in sight. Temps are supposed to rise to 90-95 degrees over the next few days, due to Santa Ana winds.
Carl and Ron, do you both attend the same senior center? I've heard of chair yoga but not chair chi, ir sounds fun.
JeriLynn, is Jake neutered? The dishware is very nice for Southern meals. I don't remember why your aunt was hospitalized. Will she be able to live on her own eventually? Your family seems to come together very well to help everyone out. What a great family!
Eaglemom, isn't it encouraging to see appropriste clothing? SoCal is very casual, even at what used to get dress-up events.
Lorita, I still think you should try one of those ultrasonic noise devices to chase away the rodents. On a farm they are always around. Or get more cats! My condo complex wanted to keep feral cats to chase away the rats that are endemic in SoCal. They did their job, there are no rats now. But the mama cat isn't spayed, so there will be more feral cats roaming around.
Judith, you didn't say if you got out of the ticket.

Ron and I go to the same senior center, and I had a nice visit with him this morning. There is at least one center nearer his home, but the one near me has more to offer.
Chair Chi is a real good stretch, and it is helping my stiff shoulder a lot. I stand for most of it and only sit during the things that make me dizzy.
The senior center staff distributed info about the food pantry today. There are no SNAP (food stamp) benefits in November due to the shutdown so people will be hungry and the charities will be swamped.

Iris, I am willing to try anything. WM has them. What I can't understand is how they are powered, does the vehicle supply power? How are they attached so they won't fall Out. Does anyone know or had experience with them?

LOL…no ticket!
I have had bad luck with those sound things inside. Mine plugged into an outlet.
How often are you driving the car and for how long each time? Have you moved the parking place around frequently? Have you removed the nesting material? Have you sprayed with peppermint oil? Have you set out traps around the car?
Finally, how will you know if the rats have left????

I guess you would know if it is gone when you don't see any evidence of it.I drive it almost every day. I don't think parking it in different places would help but I will. No traps. I left a light on in it last night and tonight. No evidence today. Our neighbor many years ago had one of those things that made a noise in the house. That would drive me nuttier than I already am.
Eagle, time for KC.Chiefs!! Thunder is also playing but I can't get that. Haven't heard from Darwin yet to see how his procedure went. Hope it wasn't bad.
Good night. Sleep well tonight. Iris.

I didn’t stay long at the senior center but enjoyed talking with Carl again. I’ve been leaving around lunchtime because I’m afraid my esophagus problems and I would have a fight. I have thought about staying sometime and having a cup of coffee while they eat, but something probably needs to be on the menu I don’t like. I didn’t sleep well last night because I overdid it with my son’s shrimp creole. That’s my biggest problem, I can’t help myself when it’s something I love. I layed down for a little while this afternoon and again, woke up choking and trying to catch my breath. This doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s scary, especially when nobody is around.
Received my on line statement about my upgrade to a iPhone and seemed a little high. I went into the summary and noticed I was being charged for an additional line I didn’t ask for. I’ll have to take care of it tomorrow when I go to Buffalo for a haircut.

Ron you have to stay upright for at least one hour after eating, preferably for two hours. If you really must rest, try to get a wedge pillow that can let you doze upright. I have a hiatal hernia and I don't lay down after eating.
Lorita, the ultrasonic devices only affect rodents, not people or cats or dogs. That's what I read. Is your car in a garage or carport? You could plug it into the wall. It might affect Billy the squirrel.
There's a new crop of mushrooms in the grass, I might have to open a restaurant (LOL). There's been no rain recently. They do look cute, though.
I'm ready for bed now, good night.

HB - thanks for posting the info about the scrubber. It's now on my "things to buy" list.
I hear you about the light, although for us it's morning and afternoon. The sun set before 6pm tonight and it won't rise tomorrow until around 7:50am. When we get to the solstice, the sun will set at around 4:20pm. It'll be pitch black before 5pm. I'm still not used to that.
Lorita - How is Darwin doing? It sounds like he didn't have a stroke? Can they tell if you've had a stroke by looking at your eyes (since you mentioned an eye appointment for him)?
Ron - that's a very pretty piece of land. That sky! It's like a postcard.
Also, lucky you that you have a a very chef-ly son.
eaglemom - my bestie and I often lament that there are so few places where we can go where a quasi-formal dress code is enforced. And we're from California (home of very casual people)! I'm glad the bridal shower was fun.
One of the things I like about going to goth clubs is that you can wear formal wear and it's never wrong.
Carl - speaking of warm things to wear … I've already broken out my fleece tights. Black, of course. 🙂
Judith - it's always nice (usually) when you get pegged for younger than you are. I went to goth/industrial show when I was still in my 50s and I got carded. My s.o. had my ID and he had just walked in. The guys at the door would not let me in. I had them look at my gray roots, and I rattled off all appropriate dates (high school and college graduation dates, etc.). Finally then let me in. But come on, I didn't look like I'm under 20! Maybe the lighting was extra favorable.
I'm glad you didn't get a ticket!
As for me, I've been fixing all of the fiddly things before I launch my blog. It's been hours and hours of fiddly little things. I have ten posts ready to post (not all at once), so I'm happy about that.
If you're curious, it's fiveandahalfyears.net. It's not public yet, so it's password protected right now - I'll be getting rid of the password soon and making it public. The password is the word 'temporary' without the quotes. Any and all feedback is welcome, even if you hate it. So long as it's constructive, you won't hurt my feelings. You can click on any of the photos to make them larger (one of those fiddly things). And no need to read it at all, of course.
Right now I'm listening to Death Guild and winding down. I don't think I'm going to be up much past midnight tonight.

Morning
GG, I read it all. And it is wonderful. My biological sister lived in San Jose and is there now in memory care with Lewy Body.
I visited her in San Jose in 2019, before memory care. I've seen her maybe 5 times in my life, meeting her as a young adult when I was 24 years old. It is, indeed, a small world.

Good morning, all.
Iris and Judith— Good information on stroke symptoms and the need for urgency in diagnosis & treatment. As they say in neurology time is brain.Lorita— I hope things went well for Darwin yesterday and that he has a good outcome. FWIW, I think the noise deterrents operate outside the range of human hearing. I also hear that they don't work well.
Ron— That is a spectacular spot for a cabin. Have you made any traction on design and builder yet?
Mom's got issues with reflux and aspiration. She's supposed to eat 4 hours before lying down and to sleep on a wedge which she complains about mightily.
Sweetwater— It's amazing how many good workouts exist on You Tube. Senior Shape has several that don't require much space and even one oxymoronically titled a seating walking workout. I tried it last week and was surprised how well it got my heart rate up.
Jerilynn— That is the very China. I don't use it all that often; I don't think my aunt ever used it. I only ever saw it when I helped her move to Maine. When it came to live at my house the plates still had stickers on them. It does make for a pretty table, but I generally only use it if I have mom here and it's not Christmas. If it's just DH and myself, sometimes I'll get out my wedding China and at Christmas it's wall-to-wall Lenox around here.
Eaglemom— I'm glad you enjoyed the shower. IME, showers are fancier than they used to be and are often in a restaurant so folks do dress up. My niece and her fellow professional friends do tend to wear dresses often even for casual wear like a weekend BBQ.
LOL, the last family shower was one a cousin threw for her pregnant daughter. It was over-the-top. She hosted at a vineyard and hired both a DJ and a photographer. The older family members were aghast because it was a sip'n'see rather than hours of the mom-to-be opening gifts.
Gothic G— You're further north than me so you'll lose more sunlight. Latitude matters; DH used to travel to Scotland for work often and found the light really played with his head.
Carl— I bet the seated Tai Chi was a great stretch.

Yesterday was the retina specialist.
Today is a double delight— pulmonary function tests and a pulmo visit followed by her dentist. It just occurred to me that she needs to premedicate. I think she has meds at home but need to check. She, of course, is not answering the phone.

Good morning.
jfkoc you were pulled over for going 5 miles an hour over the posted speed? That's nuts. I'm one whom uses the speed signs as a guide, not a rule! Now school zones and residential street of course I'm compliant, otherwise I tend to push the boundary a bit. I'm a very good defensive driver, just a spirited driver!
Lorita our Chief's won last night. They were looking good most of the time. I think Kelsey is just a goofy kid wrapped up in a manbody.
HB the premedication is important, as you know. Is it an hour before seeing the dentist? That's one I'm strict about, always taking my premedication. The color of the china, Castle Turquoise is so pretty. I really like it. That would set a beautiful table.
Ron the site where you camper is is beautiful. I would agree with the others though, you need more propane bottles. Or bigger ones. That's something you don't want to run out of this winter.
Iris those mushrooms are big. It must be healthy soil for them to grow like that.
Let's be safe everyone.

I agree…Rusty would suffer from the ultrasonic sound.

Morning, I woke up esrly, early and it was rsining. Back to sleep and it was still raining when I woke up again. Stopped now but really dark. Haven't been out to.check the gauge.
It got to be 7:45 and Darwin hadn't called. I figured he was asleep.and hated to call, but did. He was asleep but said he was ok. Late yesterday he said his eye hurt some and vision had been blurry so guess they dilated them. He said he was NOT going back. So guess he did not have a stroke, just some bad food.
Eagle, I saw the first quarter and the Chiefs were doing ok. I had two news shows to watch so didn't know how the game turned out. Glad they won. Thunder also won!
You know I haven't seen Rusty.in a while so guess he must be eating black walnuts. Guess I should put out some sunflower seeds for.him. I hear the girls bawling so better go see what's up. Back later.

Wasn't anything bad, a 500-600 lb. Calf couldn't find the herd so was calling them. They're half a.mile away. I told him and saw.him headed that way. The house and barn are in the center of the farm with pastures all around. He was in the southeast one and they're in the NW one.
Put out sunflower seeds on the south end of porch hamburgers and in one.birdfeeder. Checked the rain gauge almost 1.25". Add that to the almost 3.25 and we have had about 4.5". Rpeally.looks muddy. Checked the back.of the car- no new nest I.can see but surely can smell Grandpa Gus. Sprayed again.
They're pretty strict.on school zone speed limits here. They fine you and a friend' s husband had to attend classes - that was in Tulsa.

good afternoon
I see I got far behind in my reading. I didn’t realize I was that far behind. I knew I missed yesterday.
glad everyone is OK

Good morning.
Lorita, I confused the names, Billy is the bull and Rusty is the squirrel.
I don't remember what breed of dog Barclee was, but if he was a terrier-type dog, he probably kept the rodents away for a long time. Don't you have some barn cats?
I don't own a dress. Since I live in casual SoCal, I can go everywhere with black trousers and a dressy or button-down top.
HB, since your mom can do back-to-back medical appointments, she is doing better than me. I need a break between appointments. I will be going to an appointment with a new PCP this afternoon. I am eager to hear what she will have to say.

Iris, Barclee was a blond Shih Tzu. Probably never saw a mouse. We used to have up to 30+ barn csts. At one time most of the mother cats had kittens. It was a job to take care to of them. I fed them and doctored them when needed. Before we had them we could leave a sack of opened feed in the crib and next morning there would be mice in it. After the cats, no mice. No idea what happened to them except probably were out hunting and got too far away from trees and coyotes got them. Kitt was a barn cat but became a house cst after he lost an eye. After that Max decided he wanted to be a house cat. He climbed the screens and yelled so much I let him in.
It has been raining for a couple.of hours with more to come and colder weather and strong winds. I did get the propane stove lit. The pilot light is burning yellow and about 1.5" high. May be getting too much air. Hopefully it work itself out. If I'm out of the house very long, like going to town or at night I turn it off.
Iris, the only dress I own is a blue, flowered midi dress I got this summer, short sleeves. Will probably never wear it. I do own several skirts though but haven't worn one for years. Did just receive a pair of berry colored trouser jeans. I love trouser jeans -still wearing a pair I've had for at least 12 years. I like gauze (not sheer) pants in the summer and jeans and French Terry in the winter-:all Denim & Co. When we were feeding I wore flannel lined pants.
Haven't seen Billy in a couple of days so guess he is with the others grazing.

I just had a call from Darwin. His daughyer, SIL and he had gone to town and as they came back the West way he said there were lots of police cars about four miles from here, on the highway.. He got a notification on his phone that someone had been shot and the shooter wss on the loose. Said to lock my.doors ( always keep the locked ) and keep my.gun closeby.
I called the Sheriff's office and the dispatched said she couldn't release information because it was under investigation but did say the Sheriff would make a statement on social media and tv. Called my nearest neighbor and his SIL lives about a mile from the area and she called to tell him to keep doors locked and be on the lookout.
Darwin says he is seeing better today than he has in a long time
