Hey there Lady Zetta - We're out of town right now so I don't know if there are any windstorms in our area. If I had to guess, I'd say "none" because we tend to get windstorms around October, and then again in December and January. The rest of the year it's pretty quiet.

I hope your windstorms aren't vexing you too much.

How was dinner last night? It sounded like it was going to be great.

Lorita - I love blue nail polish. Anything in the family of a royal blue is among my go-to colors.

Beth - you and my sister! She always liked a French manicure for her nails. I'd never heard of ballerina slippers as a color, but when I looked it up, I could definitely see the Queen wearing it.

That sounds like so much fun - getting together with your high school girl friends. My graduating class was a lot bigger, but the town where we went to high school wasn't all that big, so I can imagine people getting together periodically.

I hope you had a good workout! I'm looking forward to going to the gym tomorrow after lazing away in Charleston.

HB - the Zoya nail polishes are pretty. And you are absolutely correct - I am a Lincoln Park After Dark girl. That polish is definitely in my rotation, along with the purples and blues.

I hope you have a great day getting to be home.

Iris - You'd probably like Charleston. It's a very pretty city, and there's lots of good food. You have to look pretty hard to find something bad.

I got nothin' for you about the traffic. It was just like that when I was a kid, although I can verify that the smog situation is a lot better now.

Lorita - I'm with you - H*e*l*l will freeze over before I buy a Tesla or use Starlink.

Right now I'm getting ready to post a new blog post, and then we pack up and get ready to leave town. Fast trip, but really good seeing my mom-in-law and seeing how well she's doing.

    Good afternoon.

I had a dentist appointment t=this morning. The new crown in now in and feels great. Paying for, yikes. That didn't feel so great. I've noticed each time we're at the dentist its just not busy. I'm wondering if that's a sign of the economy? It's a private practice so I wonder if that makes a difference?

Laundry day here. For some reason I've gotten off schedule and now its piled up. Linen's on the bed are changed, laundered and put back on. That's a workout in and of itself. We have separate split twin xl's making a king sized bed. We love the adjustable part, but changing sheets is a job. Driers' beeping, time to fold.

    Let's be safe everyone.

Iris, I think the previous generations got rid of the grizzlies for a reason. Bringing them back is just dumb. Might as well bring back saber tooth tigers while they're at it.

    Good Afternoon.

Lorita. You are so right . Autocorrect has a mind of its own. And yes it does take time to correct, the auto correct. My grandparents, lived on the California coast, and someone was always getting a tick. I remember that my grandpa would light a match blow it out and put the hot end ext to the tick and it would back right out.

Beth. I thought i had a small graduation class, we had 62. I graduated in 1963 im not sure how many are left in our class. I wish I would have keep up with my class, but I always seemed to be busy. It's nice you have kept up with yours.

Ron. Enjoy lunch with your family, its nice your getting.

HB. I would be afraid touching any dish named Victoria Platter. My grandmothe had China and she used those on the holidays, us kids ate off of other plates. I liked when she used the china,China, it met us kids would not have to do dishes. I have plates that don't even match, so when i break one, that's OK. Your right that name with ths little chickens sounds creepy.

Back later my comcomputer Battery is very low. Probably because of aall tne correcting iv been doing

I'm back and my laptop is 100% charged. So this is my above post continued.

Ron, i was also hoping you got out and had breakfast with Carl.

Iris. Thanks for the laugh about how that word changed. I need to make sure to read all of my corrections. Your probably relaxing and getting ready for your next trip. I envy you for being so active.

GG. Yes my dinner was delicious. My DD is a good cook, she takes after her DD, who did most of the cooking. Tonigh she cooking pork chops. If your traveling have a safe trip.

Iris. Talking about Bears in LA is funny. Last night on the Idaho News it was showing a moose, in down town Bosie. They say she's there often, she just walks around.

Last night I did take a walk with my DD she usually goes a mile but we just did 1/2 a mile. And of course Molly had to life her leg on all tne trees. The tree in our backyard that got blown over on Monday, was finally removed today.

Good night to all Hugs Zetta .

Regarding our graduating class and my school, I grew up in a town of 400 (it's 300 now). It was a consolidated school district with 5 or 6 small towns - the largest of the towns being about 1000 now but smaller then. I don't keep up with everyone in my class but I maintain the address/phone/email address list for the class and have most of them. Our get togethers usually bring the same 10-14 women every year. There were 28 girls in the class and 20 boys. There are 7 total deceased and I found out last year that 2 classmates now have dementia - current age 71. Pretty sad.

Lorita, I like Brunson too! Josh Hart too - what a good rebounder. Very interesting game, Knicks down by as much as 14 I think, then won it. Spurs have several really good players; not just Wemby but also Harper, Vassel, Castle. Quite a bunch.

Carl, we in California have solved all of our problems of homelessness, high housing costs, budget deficits, fraud and everything else, so that the only thing left for our legislators to address is the plight of the poor grizzly bears in other states. The bill to introduce Grizzlies passed in the Senate by a vote of 29 to 9. Can't people see that we're so compassionate about wild animals here? 😬

HB, I'll keep that nail polish in mind for the future.

    Good night.

Took the cake and a chopper over to Darwins and had a nice visit with them. They make a lot of deviled eggs so thought the chopped would help. When we got home Billy was waiting for feed so went out to the barn and gave him hay. Walking back through the grassy runway guess I stepped on a rock and fell flat on my back. I got up pretty easily but will be sore.

Carl,I wouldn't want to be around Grizzleys but think they should be preserved probably where there aren't many people. I think all species should be kept alive. Just think about how the buffalo were almost hunted to extinction. I believe all species have a purpose but cannot imagine what purpose a tick has. The world is losing species every day so it's the job of humans to take care of them the best we can.

Beth, Caruso is a really good.player too. Will look for John Hart. Remember when the dominant teams were the Lakets, Bulls, Celtics and Hawks when they were in St. Louis but that was many years ago. Looking forward to the game tonight. I think it will be in San Antonio.

Sandy, really enjoyed our visit yesterday - wish my.phone hadn't run out of power. Talk to you soon. Stay safe.

It's going to be rainy this weekend, then very hot and.humid.next week with heat indices over 100. Need to get more pain meds and glucosamine for Stormy and feed for Billy so am thinking about doing that today.

    morning…..

"While ticks have no inherent "goal," they play specific ecological roles. They serve as a food source for birds, amphibians, and reptiles (like the western fence lizard), and help regulate wildlife populations by culling weaker animals. Additionally, tick populations can act as bioindicators for the general health of an ecosystem. [1]

Tick #5!! This one wasn't stuck - just crawling up my back and I felt it.

Stormy and I went to town and got 100 lbs. of Billy's fee, then to the vet for pain meds and Dura Flex -$102. He was busy, as usual. When I was at the feed store I got a handful of treats for Stormy. He was nervous and wouldn't eat them until we got home. Same as he did with the tv guy -wouldn't eat the treats he gave him until he was gone. Just dawned on me that he didn't charge for the treats.

Darwin just called to tell me he was home. He had been down on his creek getting sandstone for his daughter. He is worn out. She is making walkways with them.

Judith I know everything has a purpose to keep the ecosystem in balance but I still don't like ticks, ants and grasshoppers. Sandy, the grasshoppers are back.

News is reporting that screw worms have shown up along the Mexican border in Texas. Not good for cattle ranchers. Haven't been in the US for 60 years. A fly lays eggs on the cattle and the worm hatches and screws Into the skin. It said the worms were on a calf. They removed the maggots and treated the calf. They are going to release more sterile flys to combat the outbreak. Also said beef prices will Increase. Sorry for being so graphic. Makes you wonder what purpose those.Flys and worms have, doesn't it?

The.birds aren't eating too much feed now so maybe they're catching little grasshoppers. I'm not too sore today so guess I lucked out.

I don't have much use for mosquitoes either. I read that the most dangerous animal in Africa is the mosquito, because malaria kills more people than lions, hippos, crocodiles etc. combined. As for grizzlies, any animal that can and will tear down my kitchen door to get my food can stay in Canada and Alaska with their relatives as far as I'm concerned. Grizzlies aren't endangered, they are just scarce in the lower 48 states. Even bison would look less colorful if a couple of thousand were grazing in a grain field I had planted with a horse-drawn plow. 🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂

Iris, I read that when California was first a state, the state was broke, most people spoke Spanish, and there were gunfights in the streets. Nothing has changed. 😆

I saw that about the screw worms in Texas and was impressed with the prompt attention the problem got compared to the measles outbreak last year. I presume that is because cattle have market value while children bring nothing at market.

We will have more and more insect borne diseases as the climate becomes warmer. Insects like warm weather. One reason DW never wanted to visit Africa was because she thought Africa was "buggy" and she didn't want it.

Carl, I have heard that Eastern Okla. has a lot of black bears. Never have seen one and don't care to. There are Cougars around. There was a black one seen last year. Some.big cat killed a calf a couple of years ago and stored it in a tree across the road from us.

Time for the ballgame. Some girl is murdering the National Anthem.

Carl - As a fan of the La Brea Tar Pits, I'm totally good with bringing back saber tooth tigers! But maybe not in populated areas. 🙂

Beth - wow, your class really was small. My high school was also a consolidated school, and kids came from five different towns. We probably had a thousand kids at our school back then. 250 kids in my class sounds about right. Still, even with 250, I knew most of them.

Iris and Carl - You know what's funny about California? I've had any number of people (in WA state) ask me if I'm ever afraid to go to California, especially San Francisco. It's so bizarre. I've never felt unsafe in SF.

Lorita - we're also due for seven days of rain. We won't have the high temps though - only in the mid-60s during that time. The joke here is that the sun will begin to shine reliably beginning on the Fourth of July.

Sad day in the Gremlin household, and greater Gremlin community. We're all Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, and today we all read Anthony Head's obituary. He played Watcher and school librarian Rupert Giles. He was just great. If you don't know who he is from that, you might recognize him from the 1980s coffee commercials - link is here. But we love him for this. 🙂

Otherwise, it was nice to get back to the gym. The earthquake bar was waiting for me, and then a half hour of boxing. It felt really good - especially after the long flight from Charleston back home. And then sitting on the runway for another half hour because of gate issues.

GG, I've never felt unsafe in SF either, or in California generally except one time in LA. I pulled off the freeway for gas and the station attendant was wearing a uniform, a pistol, and a look that said "What is this man doing in this neighborhood?" I wasn't there long.

I have seen that look in other places, including Chicago and DC, and I always heed it. Sometimes it's a good idea to read the room.

Never watched Buffy, but I loved the coffee commercials. Best coffee ads ever! Sorry to see such a young and talented man go.

GothicGremlin, I graduated from Orting High School in Orting Washington near you and near the base of Mt Rainier. I have been tickled by the class counts. Mine was a total of 19 people and 11 of them were considered 12 year seniors having gone there since 1st grade. I was an outsider coming to the town/school when I was a sophomore; interesting where you land when a military brat……

Hi all, My graduating class was about 650. You had to have a "thing," or you'd just sort of stop existing. I tried orchestra but ended up with ROTC, so many of my friends ended up joining the military.

About Route 66—it goes through Albuquerque. I remember my mom telling me if you go east on Central Ave (part of Route 66) long enough, you'll end on Oklahoma City. There's a hospital on Central, and they're giving each baby born this year a Route 66 commemorative onesie "born on Route 66."

Morning, rainy weekend so no mowing . it's getting darker by the minute.

. Glad we got into town yesterday. I bought sweet feed and a handful of treats for Stormy. Wrote a check for the feed and left. Thought about what I did after I got home. Felt bad about it so called and apologized to Red this morning. He was very gracious, said no problem and that I had been a good customer for years. Also said they sometimes give them away. I may not be back this summer because the girls will be back and I can't feed Billy. How silly can a person be. I was in a hurry because Stormy was in the hot car- gotta do better

Really good game last night wasn't it, Beth? Those guys are rough for a non-.contact sport. Last night they said Wemby never played in college, just came from France to play. Only 22_ just think about what a career he will have.

Sandwich, Albuquerque is 15 hours from here. One time we drove straight through, found a motel across from a fair or flea market and had to lay down and rest a while. Love Old Town.

    Enjoy your Saturday, everyone!

    Good morning.

Sandwich, I think it's so special for the newborns to go home in a commemorative " born on Route 66" onesie!

I can't remember how many students my high school had, it was either 1000 or 3000, and it was so long ago.

Carl and GG, when I returned from Mexico, people asked if I felt safe there. I told them I felt safer in Mexico than in LA. I don't feel unsafe where I live, but I do keep my head on a swivel when I go out.

And you're right Carl, California hasn't changed much since it became a state.

As far as wildlife goes, we have enough down here, we don't need to import anymore. A mountain lion made its way into a Pasadena neighborhood, by an apartment building. It was successfully tranquilizer and transported. A different mountain lion was transported from a Santa Monica neighborhood last week. These are both highly populated areas a few miles from the mountains. Here is the story about the Pasadena mountain lion.

Could you just imagine dealing with a grizzly bear in the same situation? I don't even want to think about it!

Good morning. Sunny and very warm today with poor air quality. Mom has all the risk factors, except pregnancy, so she'll be indoors.

Lady Z— FWIW, mismatched China and flatware are having a moment. The cool kids are mixing it up— you're on trend. Seriously, when my niece got married my mom bought her a set of mismatched silverplate from Anthroplogy; my goddaughter registered for the exact same set.

The great irony of your grandmother's China is that it's pretty robust as dishes go. Not Corelle indestructible but better than porcelain or chucky stoneware.

Lorita— I'm sorry about all the ticks. We have them here as well. We have Lyme Disease here and alpha-gal syndrome as close as NJ. I don't go out into the yard unless I'm dresses appropriately— long sleeves, pants tucked into socks, gloves— since I had a run in with a deer tick that led to 21 days of doxycycline. 0 stars do not recommend.

Gothic G— I've been known to dabble in OPI's Lincoln Park on my toes. I'm pretty pasty so it pops.

DH was saddened by Head's passing. Buffy the Vampire Slayer had been his guilty pleasure for years.

Carl— I once made a wrong turn driving DS to Jambo and ended up in a neighborhood in DC that's off the tourist maps and garnered that same "look".
    ______________________________________________________________________

We have black bears here. They seem pretty harmless but the state's DNR (Dept of Natural Resources, not the other DNR) does capture and rehome them to state forests. They can cover a lot of territory in a short amount of time. They're tacking one that crossed the river from NJ and was last seen over by the high school. DH checks for his progress on the local news site each morning. There are mountain lions in the local park, but they're pretty shy. I've only seen one once when I was cutting through the park at dusk.

I'm meeting friends for Italian food tonight. I should run to Costco but don't know if I feel up to the circus that is Saturday-at-Costco.

You have to keep the ticks off your body by where you walk and your clothes. I would think in the country one would get a lot of ticks on themselves.

Judith, over 200 governors are meeting in my city for the 94th annual U S Conference of Mayors. It will be presided over by Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt. Mayors will discuss common city issues, including the rise of data centers. I hope they can come to a consensus that works for all.

I almost forgot that today is the anniversary of D-Day, in 1944, the beginning of the end of WWII. I took a wonderful trip to the Normandy beaches in 2019, where I learned all about the military maneuvers. I even met a woman shopkeeper who was a child during the landings. History takes on a different meaning when you can see real-life examples of what is in history books.

The great astronomer Edwin Hubble was born on Route 66, in the town of Marshfield MO. Marshfield is quite proud of this, even though the family did not stay but only stopped to give birth while en route to somewhere else. That's OK. Jesus never lived in Bethlehem either, but Bethlehem has dined out on that one-night stand for 2,026 years.

73 and cloudy here, and the rain is just starting. I'm suffering from a summer cold and plan to stay in, warm and dry.

My graduation class was over 600 and Sandwich, I also was in ROTC. I remember instead of a prom, I took my date to the Military Ball.

Grandson needed new football shoes with cleats for this year football. Was proud he has decided to play his senior year. I drove him to Academy Sports in Springfield, beside the cleats I bought him a mouthpiece and new shorts, then we ended with Firehouse Subs.
