Been raining for at least the last five hours, really hard at tines. I can imagine how flooded the road north of me must be. Yesterday the ditches were already full. Good to fill ponds though if they were low. There s flash flooding in some counties north of us. Glad I got into town for feed and meds. I have been parking under a tree so maybe this rain will wash the car.
Just watched a few minutes of WNBA and they use white basketballs. When did that happen?
Beth I agree - wish they wouldn't flower up the Anthem - it's pretty as is.
Carl, I hope your cold gets better soon. Summer colds are bad.
Back later.

Get well soon, Carl!
I spent a nice afternoon with my Red Hat ladies. Now to rest up.

Carl and Iris - I always pay attention to my surroundings no matter where I am. So yeah, I guess I read the room and act accordingly.
Some day if you're bored and looking for something to watch on TV, consider giving Buffy a chance. It's very well-written, funny, snarky, and can have a lot of heart.
I hope you feel better soon.
Iris - I'm glad they were able to transport the mountain lion!
Speaking of wildlife, today when I was cleaning the kitchen I looked out the window just in time to see a coyote trotting across the yard. This is one of the reasons I don't just hang out in the yard, I'm never sure who I'm going to meet there - coyotes, bobcats, raccoons. Mostly they just wander through.
Goodlife - I've never been through Orting, but I kinda know where it it. And you're right, it's not too terribly far from me.
Sandwichone - I don't think anyone looked at us sideways if we weren't involved in something in high school. I had long been a band kid, so I guess that was my thing.
HB - my mom had so much Corelle. You're right, that stuff was indestructible. I'm not sure what happened to it all. Maybe my brother has it now.
I'm with your DH on Buffy. I thought it was interesting that the the other two core members of Team Peggy were Buffy fans. We often used the dialogue to help bond us. Whenever Peggy started exhibiting some new and unfortunate behavior/symptoms, one of us would start out with "I have a theory …" , so we'd have a laugh, and not cry instead.
Judith - are you still making progress on the bagpipes? Enjoying it?
Lorita - that sounds like a lot of rain. Are you getting any flooding?
Today was kind of drizzly for us as well, and on the cool side. Next week it's supposed to be in the 80s!!! I'm looking forward to that!

Morning, yes, GG there are flood warnings out for many counties in Eastern Okla,, ours included. Looks like more rain today. Grass and weeds are growing making a good habitat for ticks and grasshoppers.. I see our girls this morning on the section east of me. I will be glad when they're home. They aren't used to being out in the rain so much.
GG, I have seen coyotes between the house and pond and even closer. There is at least a couple of big wolves around. I have seen and heard them and others coming up our driveway have told me they have seen him. When the doors are open I hear them at night when they go out to hunt. I have had to run wolf hunters and their dogs off the farm.
Iris, glad they were able to get the lion back where it belongs instead of killing it. I feel sorry for the animals - man has moved in and taken over their natural homes, just like we did to the Indians.

Good morning. I just dumped the rain gauge from yesterday, 3.5 inches. That is a lot of rain for us. It seems to be clouding up now, so maybe more today.
We had a huge retirement party yesterday afternoon. It was beautifully set up outdoors. However, mother nature had other idea's. After the second crack of thunder everything was very quickly brought inside. The party went on like nothing happened!
Back later to check on everyone. Let's be weather aware and safe.

Good morning, nice and sunny this morning, but looking for rain later. My son in Dallas said the rain at his house finally moved out but his yard is soaked. Speaking of California; I’ve mentioned this before, after I landed in Oakland, California's from Danang, Vietnam during an airplane strike, I said California would never see my face again. The only time I felt I was welcomed back home was over a day later after finally making it home. I’ve changed my mind since! Now I’ve met several wonderful individuals from California (my DIL was born and raised in San Diago) and also have front porch friends here. That proves first opinions are not always true, but at the time I hated the brief period I spent there being cursed and spit at.

Getting darker here. My tablet says rain will begin in five minutes. Never made it out to our rain gauge.
The way many Vietnam vets were treated when they returned home was shameful. But remember that was not everyone. I think veterans are to be admired. I think often of the.big sign I saw every day when I went to work outside of our VA Hospital which read "The Price of Freedom is Visible Here" is so true. So many did.not return home and many returned scarred outside and inside. Thank you for your service, Ron.

Bag pipe…still a source of laughter
Wild life….I have had a red fox. for years

Hurried and took down my one, really heavy sack of trash and got the mail. Eagle, emptied the rain gauge and there was 3.5". SprinklIng now. When I emptied it a few days ago there was also 3.5"
Just heard a word I hadn't heard in a long time - nubbins! Are you all familiar with that word.
There used to be a fox where we parked by the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, North of the VA Hospital. No foxes here though.
0 -
I've heard of nubbins all my life, Lorita. It applies to very young children or to anything else that isn't very big.
Lots of foxes around here. Plenty of woods, water, rabbits, and mice, so foxes do fine. You have wolves and coyotes, they may reduce the number of foxes for you.
80 degrees and humid here. Some rain expected around 4:00, but nothing major.

We have missed the rain today. Somehow it went to the east. Very humid though Next week will be sweltering.
My caladiums are finally coming up. The planter that gets afternoon sun is ahead of the others. Still.haven't gotten the rose moss seeds planted.
I have always heard short ears of corn referred to as nubbins. I can remember breaking those in half to feed to the hogs.
I heard bad seats for Game 3 of the.NBA Finals are going for $7500 and good seats, not courtside, will be it $200,000 up. They just said that lots of nearby parties for people who can't go have been cancelled by Secret Service Because Trump is going to the game. People are unhappy.

I never heard of nubbins but I have heard of nubs. "If you point your finger at me you'll draw back a nub!"
Ron, I'm sorry you had such a horrible reception when you returned from Danang. Sadly, that sentiment is still present against law enforcement, especially in Los Angeles county.
Catalina, which is an island, has its own subspecies of fox. They were almost extinct a few years ago due to distemper, but recovery efforts have rebuilt the population.
Ah, how cute!
Iris

Those little.guys are so cute, Iris. Thank goodness for organizations working to stabilize and help them recover. I can tell that butterflies and rabbits are not nearly as plentiful around here as they once were. I can remember mother talking about seeing timber wolves here on the farm years ago.

Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Get some before it's too late! But I think it's okay if the celebration spills over into tomorrow.

Love chocolate ice cream! Good night everyone, sleep tight

Good morning,
Love chocolate ice cream, vanilla, strawberry, peach, butter pecan, homemade vanilla and cookies, Neapolitan, etc.
Tornadoe warning last night, but it stayed northeast of us. Thunder and raining now, with more on the way. Guess even though most of my days are like this, is a stay inside day.
The home health nurse now wants me to send in oxygen results on the monitor alone with heart rate and blood pressure. Oxygen level has not been that bad since my move to Missouri, until recently.

Good morning. Warm and breezy here at the moment. We had a little rain over the weekend but not enough to help with drought conditions. I noticed the creek and even the river at Trenton were lower than usual. They should be higher this time of year.
Ron— I'm glad your grandson has signed up for football this year. I know you'll enjoy going to the games.
I'm glad the nurse is tracking your O2 levels. It's important to stay on top of that. I notice my mom's are lower than they were even a few months ago, but she doesn't perceive the change herself so having another set of eyes on you is great. I've been reading up on BLVR which is a new treatment for COPD. It looks interesting but I don't know if mom would be a candidate. The pulmo she sees is on staff with the university hospital that offers the procedure. I'm curious to see if he mentions it at her next appointment. It's "minimally invasive" but does require general anesthesia and a 3–4-day hospital stay.
Lorita— I envy your rain, but not the ticks or mud.
Nubbins is a new one for me. At first, I wondered if it was a variation of "nibling" (an inclusive term for nieces/nephews based on sibling).
Carl— I hope your cold is improving. Summer colds are the pits, especially if you're also dealing with unhealthy air or pollen. Yuck.
Judith— You'll have to post a clip of your efforts on the bagpipe at some point. Are you learning a specific song?
Eaglemom— I'm glad the indoor Plan B worked out for the retirement party. It's so iffy to plan outdoor events this time of year. My bestie is hosting her twin grands' 1st birthday next month. The parents live in a house that has 8 steps to the front porch and almost no available street parking. Bestie is immunodeficient and plans to set it up outdoors— she has a covered back porch and a 12x 12' tent/dining fly. If the weather goes south, she'll move the party indoors and leave which is safer for her. I volunteered to make a salad for the festivities— I'm thinking a mixed green to complement her hoagie tray.
Iris— Mom used to do the Red Hat Lady thing. She was always surprised by how different the 2 (groups, units, covens, what the collect noun for RHL?) to which she belonged were. The one in FL was big on museum and garden outings with a nice lunch while the one in MD was mostly lunch with a side of gossip.
I'm down for chocolate ice cream anytime. A special day is a good excuse to indulge.

We had a quiet weekend aside from meeting friends for dinner. DH enjoyed his choice a lot more than he did last Saturday. The woman in a couple-friends can be a little extra. Aside from occasionally judging or shaming the choices of others (usually DH) she is one of those folks who looks at a menu and immediately starts thinking of swapping out components. I have never once seen her order a pasta dish with the chef's choice of macaroni shape. Saturday, there were 2 cod entrees and she wanted the preparation from one version, the sauce from the other and the mashed potatoes from the filet mignon special. One of these days, the chef is going to come out and hand her an apron. LOL.
Today is mom's eye appointment. Her retinal specialist is back from maternity leave which meant tweaking the schedule for all her injection patients, so I am anticipating a busy office. The place is organized chaos on a good day. Mom mentioned that the doc must be "huge" by now. Niece said she was obviously pregnant back in early February, and she looked ready to go on maternity leave when I saw her the end of March. I suspect mom's vision is worse than she's letting on.
Btw, Beth, she is loving her new CD speaker and listening to audio books. It's been life changing. She missed my initially phone call because she was listening to some early Dylan.
Off to have my 3rd mug of tea and do the crossword. To challenge myself on Monday I try to do it on the crosses or downs only.
I hope all have a pleasant and grizzly-free day.

Morning , warm and cloudy. Can't seem to get going this morning. Directv is trying to negotiate a contract with ABC so missed Meet the Press yesterday morning. Did watch it a while ago on YouTube. Looking forward to the game tonight.
Hope everyone is well, or better, this morning.

Good morning. It is going to be a hot one today, and all week. The weather forecast is for the heat index to be 105 to 110. The older I get the more the heat bothers me.
Ron how did your son and DIL take it when you shared with them you were moving into a community? Personally I think you'll enjoy the interaction. That's good news about your grandson playing football. That's something to look forward to watching.
My besties DH is having a heart procedure at one. She was in the medical field so she ask the questions, read up, etc. When they arrived today surgeon said it could possibly take five and half hours, because what he's doing is on the bottom left side of the heart. Apparently that's the most difficult to work with. She wasn't expecting that long of a procedure, maybe three hours. I'm going to fix DH lunch then take him to a friends house for the afternoon (which he'll love) and make a flying trip to the hospital to sit with bestie. Of course the hospital is over an hour away, ugh.
Let's be careful and safe everyone.

It was thundering and raining when I woke this morning, so I went back to sleep. Got up in time to eat lunch at the senior center, then another line of thunderstorms came in while I was driving home. It is humid and the pollen count is high, just a normal June day. Some of the streets are blocked by flood water, but it isn't hard to detour. One bicyclist was rescued by the fire department after getting trapped in a flood where a hiking/cycling trail goes through a low place. Several thousand people lost electricity last night, but mine stayed on.
My cough is better but it's still there, so I'm trying to stay dry. So far so good.
Speaking of predators, there was a story on the TV news of a small dog being attacked by a large owl in her back yard. The dog's best friend, a large dog, rescued her or she would have been an entree for a family of owlets. As is, she got off with scratches from the talons. It's a bird eat dog world out there! 🦉🐩

I have a lot of rabbits…
HB…song??? I can't get the first two notes of the scale consistently!

That's so nice of you, Eagle, to go be with your friend. I know she'lll appreciate it. Waiting alone is really hard.
Guess we're going to have the same weather. Guess I'll stay in as much as I can. Weatherman just said the heat index is already 100 in Bristow, west of us.. There is flooding in some counties especially along the Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas State lines from the weekend and morning rains. I was really surprised that our road wasn't flooded.
Be careful on your drive, Eagle.
Carl, we had a friend who raised German Shepherds and wolves tried o entice the puppies out of the yard. Glad the.big dog saved the IIttle one. He careful with that cold.

What a wonderful story about the little dog, Carl! My cat Simon liked to jump up onto the roof and roam around on my condo complex. One dark night I saw what I thought was a hawk resting on the roof. I was so scared for Simon! But when the sun came up, I could see that the "hawk" was actually a satellite dish. I was so relieved!
HB, Red Hat groups are called chapters. My chapter is a newly formed chapter, so mostly we have lunch. But we are planning excursions for over the summer and into the fall. The main idea is to have fun and to leave cares behind.
I hope your mom has a good eye appointment.

Lorita - the coyote that I saw just trotted across the yard. I'm always surprised when I see them - they're so dog-like, but not.
Nubbins? I've never heard that word.
Ron - I'm sorry you had such a bad experience in California. Usually we're better than that.
Iris - My mom was from Southern California, and really liked going to Catalina island. It was definitely one of her happy places. I've only been there a few times, and I enjoyed it each time.
How did I miss National Chocolate Ice Cream Day???
HB - I hope your mom's eye appointment went well.
So far I've had a grizzly-free day, and I am happy about that. 🙂
eaglemom - I hope your bestie's DH had a successful procedure. You're a good friend!
Carl - I wouldn't like that weather at all - especially the high pollen count. My allergies have been killing me this spring, but everything is finally starting to calm down.
I hope your cough goes away soon.
Judith - I've never tried, but I imagine bagpipes are difficult to play. So cool that you're learning how to play.
As for me - my trainer brought out the new bands for the earthquake bar. They're very thin, so they allow the kettle balls to bounce even more than usual. Man, that thing beat me up! He was using the heavier weights too. But it was good! Very challenging, and I'm feeling it. But in a good way. Then I did about 100 sit-ups, and then escrima for about 20 minutes for cardio. All in all, a good workout.
Other than that, I've spent most of the day catching up on bureaucracy that I had left over from we left for Charleston.
Weather-wise, it's been chilly and drizzly all day.

Good game - wrong winner but not by much. In my mind the refs made a few questionable calls that went for the Spurs.
I heard today that one of the buildings for the nearby data center will cover 30 acres and there will be 160 acres of solar panels. Lost land for sure. Result of the love of money.
Hope everyone has a good night.

I see two bright "stars" in the sky tonight, facing north. Google says they are Venus and Jupiter. Does anyone else see them? Usually I barely see stars b/c of so much light.
I'm looking at the two over the palm tree.

Very nice, Iris.
I'm seeing nothing in the sky tonight - clouds and rain (yeah, the PNW). 😄

Good morning!
Lorita, I watched the game last night too. I was disappointed in the outcome. The atmosphere was electric in Madison Square Garden. Did you like the soloist for the National Anthem? I thought he was good.
GG, I am always interested in hearing about your workouts. You inspire me. I'll never get to the point you're at, but if I can get stronger bones and muscles and lose some belly fat, I'll be pleased with that. I have started doing a lot more cardio since I read about 30" 3x/wk decreases chance of dementia, and 30" 5x/wk decreases chance of 13 different cancers. I did 70" yesterday.
We have another hot day coming so I need to get outside and do a few things before it's too hot.
We are having a new "Trex" deck built right now. Looking forward to it.
HB, I'm glad your mom is enjoying books on CD.
Have a good day, everyone!
