Good morning. Another lovely day on tap— warm, sunny and low humidity. Maybe some t-storms tomorrow. Fingers crossed as it's dry here.
Lorita— a 30-acre building? Yikes! That is massive.
Eaglemom— Fingers crossed for your bestie and her DH. This isn't an ablation, is it? I know they can take a very long time and that it can really vary once they get into the procedure. It's kind of you to arrange to spend some time with her. Mom had her TAVR done in the summer of 2020 during peak COVID restrictions which meant she could have 1 support-person but not actually with her until she was in her room. It wasn't super-long, but it was still hard.
Carl— I'm glad the cough is improving.
Judith— Well, you do have until Christmas, no?
Iris— "Chapters", noted. The picture is pretty amazing. Venus is usually pretty easy to see as it's close and very bright. Mars, too. We used to get our best stargazing near my parents' places in coastal MD and FL, but my aunt's place an hour north of Portland, ME was incredible.
Beth— I envy you your next decking. I'd like to replace the decking on mine with Trex.

I was busy with mom yesterday. In addition to the eye appointment, I had to fix the TV in her kitchen (she messed up the input source again) and stop by the optician's shop to have her glasses fixed. She falls asleep watching TV with them on, and they get all bent out of shape.
Her retina appointment was interesting. Her vision in her left eye (damaged optic nerve) has been improving from 20/200 to 20/60 but her field of vision was very narrow yesterday— she was only able to see the left-most letter of each row. Her doctor says the imaging looks stable but in terms of function her vision seems worse to me. When I got to the house, I noticed that the azalea I'd bought to fill in an empty space in the garden was very wilted. It had "looked OK" to her earlier when she watered some potted plants.
My car is in the shop for an oil change and state safety inspection so I'm homebound today. I hope it passes without a massive investment. I'm making pizza again because it's a cheat day. I need to start my dough. I also bought some fresh rhubarb for DH; I'm thinking a crisp rather than a pie. I'm not a huge fan of rhubarb myself, so maybe DS and I will have blueberry instead.
I hope all have a pleasant day.

The Honda passed state inspection, but mechanic recommended replacing the tires (showing age and cracking) both front and rear alignment asap. He suggested the place he buys his tires for resale as quicker and cheaper for me. I have an appointment these in an hour.
Guess I'm going out for dinner.
HB1 -
HB, DW and I tried cheat day but I brought home my secretary so DW put an end to that. 🤣
My doctor's appointment (6-month followup) went well. My blood pressure is down, which I attribute to my Factor diet. I've lost about 12 pounds, and half of it is water due to eating a lot less salt than I get in restaurant food. If I can get myself off the couch and exercise consistently, I'll be pretty healthy for a man pushing 80.
I was scheduled to take a bus trip to the St. Louis Zoo tomorrow, but the bus broke down and the trip is rescheduled to October. I'd rather walk around outdoors in October than in June anyway. It's 85 degrees and windy today, and humid as always. St. Louis is at the junction of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and is humid all summer as well.

Good afternoon.
HB, I like rhubarb pie. But I'll take rhubarb crisp. Will you be able to bake it tomorrow? I admire you preparing your own pizza dough.
Is your mom aware of her vision changes?
California does not have vehicle inspection. I remember those from when I lived in DC.

Snake #2! Went out to move car and came back and he was in the path but slithered under the porch.
Nice picture, Iris those planets were really bright. You know I have never seen a palm tree. They don't grow out here on the plains.
Beth, I missed almost all of the National Anthem but what I heard was pretty good.
Sleep well, everyone.

Busy day today! Went to the Senior Center this morning and Mission Ridge called while I was there. Still no one bedroom available, but they said could be having a Studio available and should know for sure by tomorrow. They know I want a one bedroom and they said I would keep my spot on the waiting list for one bedroom and when available, I could move. I had lunch there and talked over a few details. The food was good! They also need paperwork from my primary doctor who I don’t see again until October, so I went to the VA. After a 45 minute wait, I talk to the nurse who told me she thought my Dr could feel the forms out from my March visit. After being home for thirty minutes I found out my granddaughter had a flat at work with no spare. I drove back to Springfield to take her home and will go back tomorrow to get her four tires and keep her best one for a spare.
think I’ll get ready for bed! Good night!!Ron

Ron, you were busy so hope you get a good rest tonight.. Are the apartments furnished? When we moved Jack into AL the rooms weren't furnished Never thought to ask Jerry.
How far from Springfield are you?
0 -
Beth - You'll get there. When I first started, I could do one push-up, and even that was a stretch. I wouldn't have even dreamed of the earthquake bar. Boxing is great cardio! Fun too.
I'm like you, I want my bones to be strong, lower my chances of cancer and dementia, and keep my weight in check. I really am fighting my genetics. We'll both just keep up the good work.
HB - how often do you make pizza dough? Homemade pizza is just the best.
Hey Carl - that's great news! I think you're right about your Factor food.
Iris - did California get rid of the smog checks on cars? I'm pretty sure I had to do that several years ago when I sold Peggy's car. I don't think California has ever had safety checks, at least not that I remember. Washington state doesn't have smog checks or safety checks.
Ron - you really were busy today.
Today was another drizzly cold day for us. Next week it's supposed to heat up to the mid-80s. I'm so ready for it.
Gym was good today, mostly boxing and abs. I always like that combo.
I spent a chunk of today planning for my spring cleaning. I think this is the year I'm going to have to let go of a number of books. It's time for someone else to enjoy them.
I also spent a lot of time thinking of my dad. If he were still alive, he'd be 103 today. Peggy's friend M (part of Team Peggy), sent me an email today acknowledging his birthday.

Good morning.
After 9.5 inches of rain we are attempting to cut the front pasture with little success. 😏 The pool overflowed, the pond overflowed, it was unbelievable. But the water didn't come in the house so all is well and blessed.
Cleaned the patio and the baby Barn Swallows fledged yesterday. We have string lights out there surrounding the entire porch. They are perching there and on the ceiling fans and pooping everywhere!!!! No more patio nests after these have moved to the silo. They'll have to be content with nests on the front porch. I can't keep moving all this furniture💩🤣
Tonight is Vacation Bible School Training for me. Looking forward to being with the children.
Off I go to retrieve my patio rug from the fence before the next round of rain begins…. I guess I'll fold it and put it in the garage until the birds relocate.😂
Y'all have a good day.

ERRANDS TODAY…..

Good morning.
Lorita, I read that snakes eat mice. Are there poisonous snakes in OK?
Ron, it's so nice of you to rescue your granddaughter and to gift her with new tires!
Are you thinking of accepting the studio apartment for now until a 1 bdr becomes available?
Carl, what a good medical report! Factor is doing well by you.
Judith, how often are your bagpipe lessons? Do you bring the bagpipe home to practice in between lessons?
GG, my dad would have been 111 this year, born in 1915.
California still has smog checks; my car had its first smog check last year at year seven. Usually on a cloudless day I have a peek-a-boo view of the mountains north of me, but yesterday the air was so smoggy that I could not make out the mountains at all. With all the electric vehicles, one would think there would be less smog.
I have an intention of culling books, but when I look at them I think I will read them again. But will I? IDK.
NannyG, VBS used to be popular here, now, not so much. I hope yours is well received.

Iris…snakes do eat mice. They are territorial meaning that they stay in their own "home" area.
We have 46 varities of snakes in OK…7 are poisonous.
Re the bagpipe…we learn on the part called a chanter….after we can play that we get a "bag". I practice every day and go to a lesson once a week. It is really wonderful to learn and laugh. The Pipers are lovely to me.

Iris, around here we have copper heads and cotton mouth watermoccasins- that is what I killed a couple of weeks ago and saw yesterday. When they open their mouths it is all White like cotton. Years ago one.bit Charles. We flew low to the.doctors office and he was ok.
Just went out and fed Billy. I called and told.him to come and eat. BY the time we.got back inside he was eating. He is staying in the barn most of. the time.. Mike says the girls will.be back in three or four weeks. It is.hot and windy- not pleasant.
Nanny, my little barn swallow must have lost her babies after they hatched. She is no longer flying around on the porch. They are so cute sitting on the edge of the nest getting ready to fly. Glad yours made it.

Lorita…the cotton mouth around your porch may have eaten the baby birds…they are great climbers.

Don't think so, Judith. The nest is on a light fixture on the porch ceiling, so a snake would have to have climbed up the wall (which has happened before), then across the ceiling - but who knows. I hope not. I have wondered if ants might have gotten them.
Beth, are the storms/tornados near you? Please be watchful and safe.
Basketball game tonight!!

Judith and Lorita, thanks for the info about the snakes of OK. There was a YouTube video about a snake climbing a vertical wall, but I didn't watch it.
Judith, I had to look up the chanter, and found this video of a young woman practicing. I get the picture now of what you are doing. I was imagining you with a set of bagpipes practicing at night, serenading your neighbors.

Lorita, I drove to my local market which has two rows of palm trees gracing the long driveway. I always enjoy looking at them. California has many varieties of palm trees, but only one type is native to this area, the rest were imports. I hope you enjoy these photos of palm trees.

Beautiful ships, Judith! Thanks for sharing!
We are having thunderstorms and had heavy rain for awhile. Nothing severe in our area at present.
Today I mowed the backyard, spread compost and mulch on a flower bed and went to a meeting of the historical society. They keep me busy with various projects. I do enjoy it.
Enjoy the game if you watch! It was the same singer of the National Anthem tonight as Monday night. He did a good job.

Thanks Iris….people who "pipe" play their chanters dayly. When one graduates to the bag the blowing half is above the bag and the holes are below.

What a game!! I think the Knicks were down about 29 and came.back to win by one. Beth, I was clapping and cheering just like everyone else. Bet you were, too.Knicks up 3-1. I think Wemby is a dirty player - just my opinion. Also liked the National Anthem. Good for the Knicks- just one more game needed. Good night everyone

Morning!
Sunny, hot and humid here. Thunderstorms this afternoon.
A car and a truck 🛻 both stopped for the Geese and Babies to cross the road this morning. They’re happily grazing the front pasture and paddling the pond.
One more Barn Swallow nest to hatch. Mama is diligently sitting. Daddy is bringing food to her and giving her the occasional rest break ❤️
Off to take Uncle to the doctor. Have a good day everyone ❣️

I'm off to visit the Tar Pits. These Seagulls were talking to their reflections at a window.

Thr seagulls are pretty, Iris and also the palm trees. I doubt they could survive our prairie winds. They look really tall. Any coconut palms.
Love the picture Beth. Lots of happy New Yorkers last might and headaches today.

NannyG55 - That is a scary amount of rain! I'm glad that most of your baby Barn Swallows are okay.
Iris - When we lived in southern California, we lived in a place where we could see the San Gabriel mountains. Well, we could see them on a clear day. If it was a smoggy day, you couldn't even tell that they're there.
I hope you're enjoying the La Brea Tar pits!!
Judith - I'm glad you're getting support from the Pipers.
Judith and Lorita - I'm just going to put wall-climbing snakes right out of my mind.
As for me - I had been promised renegade rows at the gym. Well, I finally got 'em. 3 sets of 10. Owww (but in a good way). Then 150 sit-ups (of various kinds), and finally escrima. I'm pretty tired from that, but I also feel nice and loose, if you know what I mean.
And now, back to work on next week's posts.
