afternoon…
Stayed in bed and watched the documentary about the first automobile, a Winston, to make the journey across our country. It was a Ken Burns from 2003. Fascinating!

I'm getting ready to get all of my cleaning done.
I started out the morning by reading the news and listening to music. For some reason Perfect Day by Lou Reed popped into my head and I remembered a great video of that song - it's actually an ad for diversity of music for the BBC. The ad is the song itself. It starts out with Lou Reed, but then each line of the song is sung by a different artist — Bono from U2, Elton John, Tammy Wynette, Emmy Lou Harris, David Bowie, Burning Spear, Gabrielle, Tom Jones, Heather Small, classical and opera artists, and more. It's well done, and kind of uplifting, so I thought I'd share.

Hi, windy here and pretty warm 64 at 7 a.m. Darwin came st 10:30 with chain saws, post hole digger and sharp shooter. Said he had come to transplant the tree Could not talk him out of it.so, we went down the driveway and found the Bradford Pear I had selected. It was about 5' tall and we quickly found it would be too hard to get.out of the ground...So Found another smaller one and it was the dickens to get.dug up.. Roots galore and a pretty long tap root. But, he did!
He had already dug the hole in the yard before we left…Got it planted and watered good...We put it where the Southern.Magnolia had been. No flowers this year but plenty of long thorns. It is in the.northeast corner of the yard.
I was tired and know he was so got him.inside with a bottle of grape gatorade. Sent him.home with an eight bottle carton. He was going to cut some wood and go.home. He is an energetic 85 year old and a.bit stubborn. The best neighbor.you could ever want.
I have the trash together and will take it down later. They fed the girls and they are back to trying to graze. Saw all.of them this morning when they were out front. Very curious about what we were doing. I could have have never got that tree transplanted. Thinking about be weeping willow or peach tree for the other place. Looks like most.of our trees are budding but.nothing on the.black walnut yet. He said this is the first tree he has ever dug up and transplanted.
Don't forget The Americas tonight on tv. Hope everyone is well today.

Good afternoon!
GG, I will be visiting Seattle later in the year. I have been before, but I never visited the Space Needle. Is it worth a trip?
I have a group question for the pet owners. I have three cats, ages 15, 15 and 8. I have always fed them Purina Friskies canned food and I varied the meats. But now they seem to be bored with the same food, because they eat less. Yet they don't like other, new foods. Should I keep trying new foods?

Iris, that's the brand I feed my three cats, too. . I feed Pate for a while and then switch to the kind with gravy. Like you, I try to vary the kind of meats…I figure they're like us, they need variation. I also give them dry Diamond cat food. I.have to watch.because Stormy and Sheena love cat food. Sometimes the cats eat the dry dog food. Max, my oldest cat loves a little milk occasionally. Good luck.
Have a.nice time on your trip.

Hey there, Iris — yes, the Space Needle is worth a visit. I'd skip the expensive, not-very-good revolving restaurant at the top though. The Public Market is also worth a stroll.
Other places of note: in the Fremont district of Seattle there's a very large troll under the bridge. The troll is holding a full size VW bug. If you have the time, go visit the Mount St. Helen's visitor center - it's fantastic. Really good exhibits showing when the volcano erupted and the aftermath. In Tacoma there's the Chihuly Museum of Glass. It's also fantastic.
If you eat meat, make sure to have some local salmon. 🙂
Oh! Almost forgot - the arboretum is gorgeous, no matter what time of year.

"Perfect Day" was really good, a great editing job. There was a video on TV some years ago in which two men were singing the same love song, and both were on their way to visit their lovers. One was a black man driving an Escalade through LA to an airport, and the other was a white man driving a "Cowboy Cadillac" pickup from a big log house in Montana to a rural airport. The song was just right for either situation. I just hope they weren't visiting the same woman!
I don't remember the singers or the name of the song. "Stereotypes" would fit, but I'm sure that wasn't it.

GG, on your recommendation, I think I will try to visit the Space Needle and the Public Market. I will be going on a cruise, so I will be in Seattle for only a day or so. I remember when Mount St. Helen's erupted. I'm sorry I won't have time to visit the other sites you suggested.

Good morning. We're getting a chilly rain on my side of the porch today.
Gothic— Thanks for the link. That was lovely.
Iris— Are you doing an Alaskan cruise?
A friend of mine with several cats and her daughter who has 8 currently have said they believe certain formulations of both wet and dry cat food have changed in recent months. She said that most of the cats have gone off things they've previously enjoyed. I know my friend feeds some of her cats Fancy Feast which is also a Purina product.
Lorita— Good luck with the tree, even if it is a Bradford pear. When transplanting an established tree, a good rule of thumb is that the root system will pretty much mimic the canopy's width and depth.
David— How is the PT going for you?

I have to make a couple phone calls later. I've been trying to reschedule mom's dressing change on Wednesday as it conflicts with her appointment with the infectious disease specialist. I called and left a message last Wednesday and Friday and have not gotten a call back. Mom got a text to which I replied "reschedule" and got an automated replay to call the office. I'm also irked that they didn't send the dressing kit I requested. The pharmacy claims the infusion center has them, but they don't really and what they do have isn't as comfortable. I will be so happy when she can transition to oral medication. I'm sure she will as well. This regimen is causing significant hair loss which she finds very upsetting. She's got baby fine hair as it is, losing a handful daily is a lot.
I also want to cancel the dental cleaning— her dentist left the practice and I want to run the prophylaxis guidelines past the new doctors anyway.
DH has an echo later this afternoon. I hope that goes well. I may ride along if he asks. I need to sort out dinner. I planned to make pizza last night but was fried when I got home from taking mom to the grocery store. She's impulsive and refuses to make a list some she ricochets about the space. I picked up what I needed and put it in the car and then followed her as she meandered about. At least I got my steps in. And DS was happy to meet us after work at the trendy pizza place that has self-service beer taps built into the wall.

Iris, my Oliver Kitty likes the Friskies Shreds, but he mostly licks the gravy, which I then refresh with warm water. He also gets a small dish of treats topped with Pure Balance Puree. (creamy, so he likes that) and there is always a full dish of Meow Mix for him to nibble. He's 18 this year so I think his preference is shifting to the softer food.

Morning. Darwin is indeed a blessing, Mint. He was also helpful with Charles several times. Nothing better than a good neighbor and I try to be one for he and his wife. .
Going to try to watch for those electric people so I can do battle with them. It's hard to see from the.house when someone is in that area.
HB, I.hope the tree lives because he worked do hard to geT it. He said that was the first tree he had transplanted. The ground was mostly sod and had some gravel in it from road work we have done in the past.
Years ago I found a little maple in the yard- really there were lots of them- so.I put it in a.bucket and kept it through the summer, then transplanted it and.now it's a.huge tree. I will see if any of those survived the winter and.go from there.
Looks like it will be a pretty day but some wind. Back later.

HB, My PT is going well. I feel like iam about 95 percent. My main problem is my legs, after being on my back for ten days in the hospital " I lost my legs" so to speak and it is going to be awhile before I can really walk without help. Right now I need help getting up out of a chair once up I can walk slowly with my walker. When I go out I use my wheelchair .

Good afternoon everyone. Absolutely beautiful here. I did giggle to myself earlier - the AC was running yesterday, this morning I noticed the heater ran and just now the AC cycled. I would love to open the windows and get outside air inside, but its just full of pollen. We have enough cough cough wheeze wheeze sneeze sneeze without opening any windows.
Our Bradford tree was lovely with all of its white blooms this year. I don't think its ever had so many. It's completely budded out now.
DH sees the neurologist this afternoon. He likes us to come in every 6 months, so we do. He doesn't do much of anything except talk with DH - which I guess is how he's judging him. They usually have a very good discussion on a number of subjects, the the neurologist will ask a question or two about something he's said. Sometimes DH can answer and sometimes not. I do appreciate how he always ask DH how he's feeling, is anything bothering him , does he have any concerns, etc. When he walks out of the room he always pats DH on the back and give him some affirming words - I so appreciate that. He addresses me also, but its DH's appointment, not mine.
Time to get lunch then head to the appointment. Back later. Let's be safe everyone.

I am not a fan of Seattle but I throughly enjoyed the Pike Place Market. We were there for Copper River salmon which was wonderful. Best salmon ever.
We drove from Seattle to Vancouver for another 2 weeks. Loved Vancouver. Both of us got our captian's licenses while cruising the Gulf Islands. I would go back there any time.

Eagle, hope the appt. goes well. I went to all of Charles' appointments at the request of the doctors. If there were questions he couldn't answer, they looked to me to answer. I was happy to do so for several reasons.
Beautiful day here but wind has gotten up - I can hear the wind chimes on the porch. Girls are geazing. A while ago they heard a truck and started heading for feeding area but stopped when it went by.
The electric company guys have not shown up. Wish I could call them but when I call their number it asks for account number and because I don't get service from them I can go.no further. It looks awful down thetr. Just imagine half a mile of tree lined land with very few living trees and all the ones they have sprayed and killed either partly standing or laying in pieces on the ground and fences and in the ditches.
The Bradford pear trees have been beautuful. Some still are but the strong wind has damaged the blooms. The little tree is sort of wilted today even with watering. Most of the trees in the yard and carport are budded except for the huge black walnut. There are at least four trees that have died and blown over in the garden area. Guess that will be another bill bill to take care of them.
Judith, where did you find artificial ferns? I try live ones most years but the south wind blows so hard on this hill, they don't last too long. I ordered cone flowers and perennial Gerbera daisies again from QVC. They won't arrive until late April. Too early for bedding plants although WM does have them. Did get the caladiums ordered.
David, hang in there. You're progressing very well, just takes time.

Lorita…Nearly NATURAL 48INCH FROM AMAZON. NO FADING AND THEY LOOK REAL. YOU CAN ALSO ORDER FROM NEARLY NATURAL FOR THE SAME PRICE.
I GAVE IN AND ORDERED FROM THE FLORIDA BOYS …

Thanks, Judith. Good night, everyone.

JeriLynn, I'll have to try New Balance
0 -
JeriLynn, I may have to try Pure Balance puree, because they like creamy food. HB, I'm surprised to learn that the formulation of the pet foods have changed, because I had not read anything about that. All of my cats seem to like Fancy Feast better, I suppose I should just buy more of it.
HB, yes, I will be cruising the Alaska panhandle in the summer. I would like to visit Fairbanks because I used to live up there.
David, it's great that you're getting your " sea legs" back!
I went on a day trip to Forever Wild Exotic Animal Haven. Animals that had been in roadside zoos or that had been kept illegally as pets or that had been injured in the wild have been rescued to this sanctuary. There were some tigers, a lion, a brown bear, hyenas, several monkeys and alligators, also an eagle and some Ravens. There were also barnyard animals. They can live out their lives here. Here are a few photos.

My phone posted before I was finished.
Brown bear
Three legged red fox, was rescued from a trap, the foreleg had to be amputated.

Coyote
Green monkey
Leopard
One week old baby goat—there were twins but the other one bounded away too quickly. JeriLynn, I was thinking of you. These two kids were jumping around and frolicking about so actively for being so new.

I hope everyone had a good day today. Mine was good, but quiet.
Iris — I think you'll like both. The Market has a lot of fun snacky treats to enjoy. The Space Needle has some incredible views of they city. I love all of your photos of the animals. I especially love the ones of the big cats.
David - I'm glad your PT is going well and that you're feeling like 95% - that's most of the way there!
jfkoc - My dad never liked Seattle either. For him it was all of the one way streets. The streets just bugged him. I'm glad you were there during Copper River season — it really is the best salmon. And agreed about Vancouver, I love it too.
Lorita and eaglemom - I'm glad you're both having great weather! I'm jealous!

I don't think I've ever been in any city I liked better than Vancouver. We spent several days there in '97 before cruising to Glacier Bay and back via Holland America. Wonderful trip! Have a good time, Iris.
