Good morning. It looks to be a beautiful day here, blue sky and sun shine.

Carl I was shocked to read your wife's report. My best advice, take a deep breath and gather all of the information you can. Then you can make informed decisions. I'm sure your surprised. He's a TX sized hug for you.

Lorita I guess I'm surprised at you battery. I'd think that would fall under the warranty - or at least that's how I'd play it!!

When DH was working he always wanted spaghetti on Monday nights. When I asked him why, he said because it was one of his favorite meals (which I obviously knew) but that would help him power through the week!

HB I'm your source for TKR or knee surgeries in general. I've had a left TKR and my right TKR has been replaced / revision 3 times! In total, I've had 13 knee surgeries and several smaller procedures. Ugh.

Time for our morning Zoom and we have our appointment with the accountant with afternoon. I'm going in knowing we'll be paying in, and pretending like it will be fine.

Back later. Let's be safe everyone.

Beth, what is a grebe? We have never had beavers around the pond but used to have muskrats. The section east of us had lots of heavens but I think Toad disposed of them. They were ruining the ponds.. No idea why we never had them but Probably should be glad. Judith, I think there is always snakes around ponds. We have four not far from the house and we surely have water moccasins.

Judith, I do drive the car every day, not far so maybe should drive farther but all the roads have been bad. Something I did caused this problem but no idea what. I know I didn't leave it running or the amount of gas would have gone down and the battery wouldn't have. I'm sure no one wss around. We're more than a quarter mile off the main road and even though there is another exit from the farm, no one would know that and wouldn't have come up with only one way in or out. Plus the driveway alarm didn't go off. Stormy can hear a pin drop and always reacts, loudly, when the alarm sounds. Gremlins were around.

Eagle, I agree with you but am sure the dealer wouldn't have. Just hope it doesn't happen again. Funny, or odd to me, the positive terminal on the battery has a cover. We're had lots of vehicles that didn't so guess this is something new.

I just discovered you can order live plants from WM and they will deliver them. Not sure I would like to do that, but who knows- easy way to get them if a young man without plant knowledge wouldn't select them. I might try a fern, can always return it.

Our Governor is trying to fire the head of our Forestry Dept.who has 40 years service for not doing a good job during the wildfires. What next?

I love, love, love prunes! I used to keep a steady supply until my A1c began creeping up. I like raisins and dried cranberries. The dried cranberries come with heavily added sugar, so I can't eat those anymore.

On the other hand, the only pasta that I will eat is spaghetti. In school, all the other kids would rave about lasagna and ravioli when those were served for lunch. I would eat the meat from the insides and leave the rest. I have not changed from that time, I still don't eat the squishy pastas.

Lorita, those soups and other Delectables are for snacks, as HB mentioned, they are not meant for a complete diet for cats. One of my cats has gotten into the habit of asking for a night-time snack, so he gets a packet.

Lorita, last year when we visited the Pioneer Woman, we had to take a minibus from the main road to her place on the top of a long road, probably two miles away. What you have is so different from here, where the houses are so close you can almost touch your neighbor's house.

Spring has finally sprung here, the weather is beautiful, not chilly or hot.

Lorita…I wonder how much driving it takes to keep the alternator and battery working. I probably need to drive more.

Iris, I'm going to get some of the delectables. I think Max would like that. I have some cat good with gravy and he will eat the gravy and leave the rest.

It is so nice outside. Stormy and I just went for a seven mile ride. Been a while since we did that. So very peaceful to see the cows grazing on green grass and all the beautiful trees leafing out. Saw one pickup and that's all. Surprisingly the roads are very good where we were, only had water over the road in one or two places. We were mostly in the next County. You wouldn't believe how much better their roads are than in our County, always have been. When I was working, I would often go through that County when the wdsther was bad because of the roads.

I need to put the flag back up - had it down during the bad weather. You know when I was eating oatmeal for breakfast I kept a jar of plumped raisins in the refrigerator to eat with the oats. Been eating chocolate peanut butter puffs and Malt o meal lately.

Iris, are you beyond excited about your trip?

    Hello.

Lorita. The soup Sammy, likes is Friskeys Lil Soups. And he also just licks up the gravy, and leaves the small pieces of meat. We have ordered live plants, from Walmart, and they have been nice. I would hope, the person who picks them out, get the best ones. And as you said, they can always, be returned.

Carl. I'm so sorry about the outcome, of your DWs, scan. I'm sure once you have given it some thought, and listened to your DWs, doctor you will make the right decision.

Beth. I would love to have a pond, so I could watch all the critters in it. When I lived in Oregon, we had a lot of wildlife, right in our back yard. Like Iris, was talking about houses being further away in the country, and closer in the city, she is so right. In Oregon, I lived on a acre, with no close neighbors, now that I live with my daughter in Arizona, the houses are all in community's and very close to each other. I'm so glad there are big cement fences dividing them.

GG. Good for you, please let me know, how your first yoga, class goes. We go to our third, one tonight. I'm still sore from the two before. I also remember, my grandma, making everything by hand. And when the cookies were coming out of the oven. YUM.

JeriLynn. You need to be getting some more rest. Fixing a big dinner, probably wore you out. As much as you do it's probably hard for you to slow down.

HB. Its funng, Sammy will not take any of his treats from those tube's, he also wants them squeezed out in a plate. My daughter's cats, prefer the tube.

Well, friends, I need to go loosen up my back mussels and get ready for my yoga, class tonight. Have a good evening, Hugs Zetta

Judith, I used to have my Volkswagen that I used to just start the engine and let it run without driving. I read later that this is not good to do, apparently because the fluids do not circulate. I also read that if you do only brief trips around the neighborhood, occasionally you should do a long drive at higher speeds to let the engine warm up. I used to plan trips on the highway because I could go for days without driving, when my car was new.

Yes, I am excited about the trip.

Hey there everyone — I'm glad most of you got nice weather today. We had rain and even some hail! It's currently a bit sunny out there, which is nice. Temps are in the low 50, so I can't complain about that. The trees around here are all in flower so that's nice to see too.

JeriLynn - I was wondering about you. I'm glad you're starting to feel better.

David - I'm glad your wife is back home! It must be a big relief for you.

Mint - I'm glad your spaghetti turned out well. It's funny, we were talking about spaghetti sauce recipes and my s.o. looked up a few. My family has never added sugar, wine, cream, or butter, and the recipes we found had a variety of these additions. We've always added meatballs and Italian sausages to ours (even though I don't eat them). Yesterday when we were talking, we figured that cream or butter adds fat, which will cut the acidity of the tomatoes, and adds a smoothness to the sauce. The sausages and meatballs do the same. That's our theory anyway — I don't know if it's true, but sounds like it could be so.

    HB - raisins. 😐️😄

Beth - I had to look up grebes to see what they are. I'm pretty sure I've never seen one.

I was happy with my spaghetti sauce. We're having lasagna tonight, and whatever is leftover is going into the freezer. I don't actually like to cook —way too stressful. I'm not comfortable with the ambiguity of the measurement of some of the ingredients, like, "add salt to taste." What does that mean? Is my taste the same as yours? What if it's not? I much prefer baking, which is much more precise, and I'm not bad at it.

Lorita - your morning sounds perfect. I can even picture it. I'm with you - we're going to pay if we cut too many forestry people.

jfkoc - I had to look up those dates, and I don't think I've ever had them — but they're shriveled. 🙂

Iris - you and my brother! Picking out the insides of raviolis and leaving the rest.

Zetta - I'll definitely let you know how the yoga class goes. I'm still in the process of finding one that's not too far from me and that I think would be good for a beginner.

Butter in spaghetti sauce? ABSOLUTELY! I’m trying to think of what I cook that doesn't get a touch of butter.. hmm.

I don't know much about cooking, but I remember from high school chemistry that acids and alkalis counter each other to neutralize the blend. Pepper is hot because it is alkali, so if your chili is too hot you can add acid such as catsup (vinegar and tomatoes, mostly) to cool it. If your tomatoes are too acid, add pepper (like that in your sausage and meatballs) to mellow them out. Adding fat, such as in cream, butter, and olive oil, makes the sauce taste good and makes it stick to the pasta, but doesn't make the sauce less acid except by diluting it.

I don't like to add processed sugar to my food, so I make cereals sweeter by adding raisins, bananas, or other sources of natural sugar. Like Iris, I love Craisins but have quit eating them due to the added sugar. You can make tomato sauce sweeter by pureeing cooked carrots and mixing it in. You won't taste the carrots, but the sauce will be sweeter. That's a way to sneak veggies into picky eaters BTW.

Salt to taste? I don't salt food when I cook it, partly to keep my blood pressure under control and partly because my mother didn't salt food and I never developed a taste for salty food except things like saltines, potato chips, and pretzels. The saltshaker is on the table, so everyone can have it as salty as they like.

Caring about the shape of your pasta is certainly a sign of privilege. We are so fortunate! I read the other day that Masai women are no longer able to raise cattle due to drought and have taken up raising crickets for food. Cricket fried rice is reputed to be really good, but I'll never try it until I get pretty hungry.

Many years ago, I enjoyed an Italian restaurant in Kansas City that served Cannelloni ala Tuscana, a meat-filled pasta tube with a tomato sauce. It was delicious. We took our son there when he was old enough to eat out. He loved KC BBQ ribs, and enjoyed the tiny BBQ ribs our favorite Chinese restaurant served as appetizers, so he asked: "Are there Italian ribs?" No, but they'd be really good if there were.

I talked to DWs PCP today and decided that DW doesn't need to be subjected to chemotherapy for her lymphoma, since she has advanced Alzheimer's. I have a durable power of attorney so it's my job to make such decisions for her. We are meeting with a hospice nurse tomorrow for an assessment.

DW has always said she wanted me to outlive her, because she didn't want to be left alone. It looks like she is getting her wish.

Iris…I read that too online after Lorita's car would not start. I do not drive my car every day and the thought of a highway drive is a bit intimidating. Maybe my grandson will take it for a spin on the highway.
