Morning, Iris, I really enjoyed the beautiful animal.pictures. Glad they're in a place where they will be cared for as they should be. They had a tough start and deserve better.

Good morning Porch Friends,
Final prep is underway here for our maiden RV voyage. Going somewhere close by accompanied by my SIL and BIL. I've got brownies, a spice cake and a peach cobbler baking. That's the last of the cooking from home. Everything I'm taking for supper meals can be done on the grill or in the crockpot. It's all loaded. Just have to stop to get fresh bread tomorrow.
The babies will go to Huntland for Granddaughter to look after and feed. They will be in a stable, so warm and dry. Grandson will come by each day to check on the rest of the herd and feed Lilly and Jake and the chickens. My daughter will come to feed the bird and Oliver. Our little circus, lol.
Went to the Tax Guy yesterday. Will have to file extension for my FIL, which I expected as the Estate Deadline is April. Got a list of the bonds calculated and will deliver that to the Tax folks today. Then, I'm free for a few days. Well, I guess I'd best get up from here. The washer/dryer is going, the oven is baking and I got more chores to do… Ya'll have a good day!

Good morning. Iris, I loved seeing your photos. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to get a haircut today and go out to dinner tonight.

Good morning Front Porch Friends.
My cat, Sammy, is a pickey eater. I found something he really ,Iikes, it's Friskeys Lil Soups. It's one serving, it's soup with little pieces of fish in the soup, salmon or tuna. He just likes the soup, leaves the fish for the other cat. He also has hard food, to much on during the day.
JeriLynn. I'm glad your getting away for some fun time. With your grandaughter taking care of the babies, you will be able to relax and not worry. The babies will surely miss you. Your little Circus, will be safe. Have Fun.
Iris. Thank you for all the sweet pictures. Those babies need all the loving care they can get.
Hugs to all Zetta

JeriLynne…where are you off to and for how long?
David…did everyone sing along with "Elvis"?

Have a big wrinkle or rut this morning. Was getting ready to order from WM and they have a new security thing. They have to send a number to your phone for you to enter.also to make sure it's you! When we opened the account we used our landline number. I have tried to get them to change it in the past to no avail. Now I can't get the number to verify it's me. One man tried up help but it didn't work. Why they can't call the number and leave it, who knows. Guess I will have to cancel my account and reopen another. This whole thing, they say, is to protect us. Guess so but I can't order now. Do wish our town had a grocery store. I hate going into the WM store.
Have a wonderful trip, JeriLynn.

That's the trouble with Wal Mart. They destroy the small businesses that make a small town worth living in. When WM comes to town, the stores close, the unemployment rate goes up, and the average wage goes down. I shop at WM to avoid driving miles out of my way, but I don't like going there.
Customer service is getting worse all over. I was in Lowe's the other day to get furnace filters, and there were no checkout clerks. I had to ring it up myself, which wouldn't be so bad if self check were consistent, but it seems every store has a little different machine. Lowe's could afford a commission salesman to badger me about getting my water tested while I was looking for the filters, but not a cashier. Springfield has Menard's and Home Depot, maybe I'll visit them next time.

CARL…and that is why I will not shop at WM. Never have, never will.
Lorita…many businesses use code texting now. Annoying but I know it is for my protection. Opening a new account with your mobile # is probably easiest. Just be certain the name is not identical.
Usually I can choose to have the code sent to my email. You may have that option too.

Carl, I agree. Not my.hometown but the town where I shop had two very nice grocery stores and two well established department stores. WM came in and in a few years one grocery store closed. The other grocery store changed owners twice before they sold out. It was empty for a long time until Bealls opened. You may see one or two cars there . One of the department stores went out of business.so people have to shop at WM or travel to another town 25 miles away or go to Tulsa. Very hard to even find a parking spot at WM. This is the only one within 30-40 miles so people are stuck. I guess I will have to close m account I have had for years and open another or go into town every two or three weeks. Been so nice having this be delivered.
I wouldn't shop there either, Judith, if there was a choice without driving 60 miles. Guess I'm back to making my own bread. At least I get cat and dog food from Chewy. Thanks for the tip about my name. I don't have my middle name on this account so guess I can just add it.
Zetta, glad you enjoyed your trip to Costco. Nearest one to me is over 60 miles away. We used to shop a lot at Sams, same town as Costco.
Carl, are you close to Rolla? The secretary in Social ?Work Service at the Tulsa Outpatient Clinic was from Rolla, pretty close to St. Louis, I think.
I found a recipe for No Knead Asiago Cheese Bread I may try. Used to get it from WM a few years ago.

I have been a Walmart, shopper for years, I guess I'm lucky because I have no complaints about Walmart. Last weekend my daughter and I went to Costco for the first time, now I will be a Costco and Walmart shopper. We get all of our Walmart, orders delivered to our front door. I enjoyed walking around and looking at everything Costco, has. That's a outing for me. 😄

Yes I did "BLUE Hawaii "that was the name of his movie

I bet you did a good.job, too David. Was he a good impersonator?
Zetta, you're like me, doesn't take much to make me happy. I used to like to go to Sams but it was so big. That's another thing about WM, too big - wears me out. Going to the store to buy groceries is tiring,;put:them in the car, then on the register thing, then in the car, in the house and then putting them away.
You all sleep well tonight.

Rolla is more than 100 miles from my home, Lorita. I've driven through Rolla many times on my way to and from St. Louis but have never had a reason to stop other than maybe at a service station.

Hmmm, just thinking ….. I'm not sure I've ever been in a Walmart (for all of the reasons stated above). Also, my sense of direction is practically nil, and I tend to get lost in big box stores, so I avoid them. I remember this one time in an Ikea …… still gives me nightmares.
Possible good news and bad news for us in the greater Seattle area … possible aurora visible tonight. We're keeping our eyes peeled. The bad news is that there's a possible tornado tomorrow. 😐️ Time to go read up on tornadoes …. I don't really know how to prepare for one of those.

GG, if you don't have a tornado shelter, you get to the lowest part of your home that is the farthest away from windows, with as many walls between you and the exterior of your home. A bathroom is often used here. We're expecting severe weather Sunday. We'll be back home by then. This is just a little short trip to test out the RV.
DH is already talking about everything we need to get done when we get back, lol. Let's see: the flower beds, the pool deck, the barn (where he tends to collect and strew anything/everything), repair the backyard fence the grand dogs destroyed, barn work at the Huntland place, the chicken house expansion, put up an interior barn door in my pantry, and the list goes on. 😕
We like to shop local as well. Except I do go to WM, Costco for major grocery hauls. DH sits in the car for the WM trip. He does load and unload the groceries for me. And I use Amazon for things like bulk chicken stock, TP, PT and kleenex. But then, you know I have grandkids that "shop" my pantry so I keep more than we need for just us.

My SIL rode out the Joplin tornado by getting in her bathtub. The house was totaled (roof gone, front wall lying in the yard), but she and the dog were OK. The main thing is to avoid flying objects. Getting under a mattress is better than nothing.

good morning
JeriLynn hope you and DH have a safe, peaceful trip and get a little rest.
GG you were given good advice on what to during a tornado. I will give you two good YouTube channels to watch when you’re having bad weather. One is max velocity, the other is Ryan Hall y’all. They are on any time there is a significant weather. If it’s just small area, they may not be on. A lot of times they are both on, but then sometimes one of them will be on and not the other so it’s always good to check both. They track the tornadoes and they can make you very aware of where they are . Sometimes they can even be very specific in your area as to where it’s going to hit, not always. Sometimes they can just tell you it’s headed toward your town. Two other things that are good to do is if you have a motorcycle helmet or a bicycle helmet to wear it because frequently what happens if you get hit by something is a head injury and so that protects you a lot. The other thing is, you should always have on a full enclosed shoe one that it would be safe for you to walk over glass with.
For many years I did not shop at Walmart. We have two Walmarts in our area, but I really have not seen in our area that they caused the closure of anything other than maybe Kmart. Then the pandemic happened, I started using them because they would bring your groceries out, they were close, they opened early so I could go before many people were there once I got a good mask and went in. I was very happy with the service and I got and the groceries I got. So after the pandemic, I continued on with them. I cannot get everything there, but what I get there is almost always quite a bit cheaper and as a retired person was important to me. I still go to both of the other grocery stores, too. Walmart carries some things they don’t carry, and they carry things Walmart doesn’t carry so I have a lot more available to me by using them all.
Then my nephew got a job at Walmart the one with ADHD and dyslexia. It was a very good experience for him not great pay but it was better than where he was working. Also, after a year he had insurance available, he had 401(k) available and he could have moved up there and made more money. But he has chosen to try and get his CDL instead. If that doesn’t work out for him, then he will go back to Walmart and they will take him. They told him that when he left. He got a good amount of paid time off. I was kind of surprised by it all. Here is what I’ve noticed in our town, I would say there’s a very different class of clientele at WM compared to the other two stores in general. You get a much rougher crowd at Walmart especially later on in the day. That is not so true in the morning when I go. A few times though I’ve had to run for something later in the evening and that’s when I observe it especially. I’m glad that poor people have an option that is cheaper than the other two stores. Almost everything at the other two stores are $.50 to a dollar higher than they are at Walmart. I can see in really small towns though what you guys are talking about happening. I will say this, though my families from a extremely small town in Kentucky. Walmart tried to get in there, but they would not allow them in. Their Kmart closed anyways, and they now have to travel quite a distance to do any major sort of shopping including even going to Walmart. If the town would’ve allowed them in older people, disabled people, etc. would have Walmart. Now they pretty much have access to nothing locally. I really enjoyed using the Walmart pharmacy. It was close. I found them to be very cooperative and it was very convenient to use. I felt like they babysat me, I didn’t have to babysit them. This year due to having to change my drug plan I can no longer go to them. They’re not a preferred pharmacy. I’m not sure how much I trust the new pharmacy. I seem to kinda have to babysit them. I’m not even sure they’re going to automatically refill my prescriptions and notify me. I think I’m going to have to keep up with that and notify them. Couple weeks ago when I went to pick up prescriptions from them for the first time their computers were down. I couldn’t get my prescriptions I had to come back later. They’re not as near as Walmart was. I never had to do that at Walmart and I’ve been there quite a few years now also, I’m not real happy. I would like to be back at Walmart. I just feel they’re not going to be as timely and accurate. Hopefully I’m wrong.Ron hope you are doing ok

Good morning.
While the small-town DH grew up in had a downtown decimated by Walmart, the loss of manufacturing jobs and scaling back of the quarries played a bigger role. Elsewhere, online shopping put the nails in the coffin lid. Malls where I live are depressingly dead.
I'm fortunate to live in a community where the town supervisors are trying mightily to preserve a downtown that's walkable with shops, restaurants and services. The nearest Walmarts and Targets are 30+ minutes away. Instead, we have small shops and chains like Anthro, Gap, Athleta, Lululemon, Free People and 3 Starbucks in less than 2 square miles.
Carl, those hard-selling water treatment people most likely work for the company that does the water treatment. These vendors pay to be in Lowe's, etc to have access to the foot traffic. The place this really annoys me are the large cosmetic stores. Looking at you, Ulta. The manufacturers provide assistants who look and act like store employees but shill only for the lines they represent. And they pounce as you enter the store offering assistance. It's not a big deal if you know exactly what you want, but the store employees are so much better as they know more about all the lines including the reasonably priced dupes.
I was able to get mom's dressing changed yesterday after I showed up in person to talk with staff at the infusion center. They'd not gotten any of the messages I sent. The nurse gave me her direct line number for the future. Today we see the Infectious Disease doc and then I go downtown for a haircut and wine after.

I pretty much have to use WM because it is the only nearby source of really cheap, shoddy clothing for my disabled son. If I buy him anything good, like Levi's, it will be stolen the first week by other residents of his RCF. With the closing of the two good supermarkets near my home, I have started buying some of my groceries there also to avoid a 20-mile round trip.
HB, do you get the haircut and wine at the same place? That sounds like really good service!
The salesman wore a Lowe's vest, so I thought he was a Lowe's employee. It could easily have been part of the deal with Lowe's, though. He was young, tall, and had tattoos and piercings all over his face. I'll bet some people sign up because they are afraid not to.

HB interesting about the malls struggling in more populated areas.

Morning, just had my groceries delivered! Last night I checked the WM website and the need for the code was gone. The young man I talked with yesterday maybe helped somehow. He said I reminded him of his grandma. First time anyone told me that. Finally after a few minutes I told him I could.not deal with it right then, thanked him and hung up.. Whstever happened, I'm glad it did.
Mint, whenever we have a tornado warning, I get the three cats, two Pyrenees and myself into the bathroom. It's in the center of the house so no windows. I have a helmet I could wear. We have a nice, big cellar where I spent lots of time when I was growing up but I won't go down there by myself. During our severe weather, rain, etc. TV signal is interrupted but there is a website that has our weatherman on it so I use that.
Muskogee used to be a bustling town with ten or twelve nice department stores downtown. They decided to build a big mall and said it would help build the town. Some department stores closed and some moved to the mall. Now, the mall is all but empty and there are no stores downtown, just offices. Guess everyone goes to Tulsa to shop. What is called progress is not always for the good.
WM has damaged our small town for sure. I haven't been in a department store for years -: c!othes are ordered online and I'm fine with the result. I can count the number of times I've been in WM during the past five years on one hand. I did puck up groceries there without going inside until they began deliveries in my area. Beautiful day here, sunny, warm and calm. Grass is turning green, trees are leafing out, birds are singing and girls are out front grazing or laying in the sun. Enjoy the day.

Good morning. HB and Mint, it's not only malls that are struggling. The last time I was in downtown Los Angeles, a few months ago, I noticed that the mid-day traffic was less than before. Los Angeles is struggling.
I rarely shop at Walmart or Target, but I did grocery-shop at Target for the boycott day in February. I was impressed at how clean and organized the store looked. Where I live we have many shopping options for groceries and other items. We also have weekly farmers' markets.
One Walmart has a gas station with much lower prices. The lines are always very long. WM apparently has a loyalty program for even lower prices.
Does anyone shop at Aldi's? I don't buy groceries, but I do buy some clothing items and home items there.
Lorita, when my old phone stopped working, I could not access my Gmail account because it wanted to text the phone number that was nonfunctional. I tried to have the code sent to a different email address, but the computer refused. There was no one to call, it said don't call. I had to wait until I got my new phone before I could get access to Gmail.
JeriLynn and Mint, thanks for the advice about how to protect oneself during a tornado. When I lived in Indiana for nine months, every morning I listened for tornado warnings, I was so wary of them.
Yesterday the temp reached 99 degrees in Phoenix, a record high.
Zetta, I have a cat Sammie, too. He is a big boy, those little soups would not satisfy him. I have started giving all three cats Fancy Feast, they seem to be satisfied with that.
Beth, how was your dinner out? Was it for a special occasion?
JeriLynn, enjoy your road trip!
Iris

Just a thought - Judith, Sarah has been gone eight !months today. She passed away on my mother's birthday, her great grandmother. How fast time does pass. Haven't heard from Todd in a few weeks. He was struggling emotionally and financially. I hope things have improved for him.

Good afternoon.
My dinner out was great! I had a chicken dish in a tomato sauce with a baked potato and salad. They gave me two chicken breasts, so I brought one home and had it today for lunch. I had received a gift card to that restaurant for my birthday (March 23). I just turned 70. Wow.
We live in a small-ish town, population around 9,000. That's large compared to the town I grew up in with 400 people and now down to 300. We have one grocery store here, dentists, eye doctors, chiropractors, bank, at least 5 convenience/gas stations, hair salons, ice cream stores, 2 bakeries, coffee shop, quilt shop, boutique, financial planner office, physical therapy offices, one Amazon warehouse and one Amazon DSP (I don't know what DSP means), many restaurants, and many more, too numerous to mention. Since we are a small town, and not a suburb of a larger city, that means we need more of our own businesses and we try our best to support local. No Walmart here but there is one 15 minutes away. We don't go there often.
It's a beautiful day and I'm going to go outside and enjoy it!
Beth

The two lamps I ordered for the living room came today, in a box! Got it opened and they are completely disassembled. They have to.be put together including assembling the shades. Not as tall as I thought. Might be pretty for the bed side tables but do not want to put them together. Last time I will order lamps. I will replace the plug on one I have. This means going into Wal-Mart before June 2.
Tried to take a nap and think I did for maybe 30' minutes. Stormy woke me up telling me someone was outside.. It was Dion, one of Mike's hands. He came by a day or two ago to check what the tractor needed. I sold our tractor to Mike a few months ago and Dion is going to put in a new battery, air up the tires and move it. Then I can get the car in the carport.
It has been a most beautiful day. Cut back dead part of a couple of roses and a wild rose bush. My flowering almond has three or four bunches of pretty flowers but may need to replàce two or three roses. Last fall I.bought a big pot of mums, three colors. Remember someone ate all the flowers. I planted them and all three are leafing out. The yucca we have had for years died so will have to dig that up. Still have quite a few prickly pears left. I think m ok st,or all, of our bug trees have lived but not sure about the black walnut. Four have died and blown over in the garden. Paid $8750 last summer to take our seven trees. Hate yo do that again. No grasshoppers yet!!!

Thanks to everyone for all of the advice. The thunderstorms will start within the next half hour or so and tornadoes are not out of the question, unfortunately. I think the threat ends at around 10pm.
We have a couple of places in our house where we can go. We don't have a basement, but we do have a downstairs. It's kind of weird though. I think our house is officially known as a "daylight rambler", which is sort of a ranch-style house, with a "basement" that is on the ground floor and has windows. But there are a couple of rooms downstairs that have no windows, so I'm thinking that may be the place to stay for a few hours.
I'm good for knowing what to do with fire and earthquake prep, but tornado and hurricane prep are not in my wheelhouse.
JeriLynn - here's hoping your severe weather turns out to be not so severe.
Mint - You know what? Oddly, I do have a motorcycle helmet! I didn't even think of it! A friend of mine had a motorcycle and every once in a blue moon I used to ride on the back with him. He got rid of the motorcycle, but I kept my helmet because it is so not me. I'm already wearing my tough-guy hiking boots.
HB - that's kind of what I've seen in some of the towns where Walmart has moved in. It's really sad. My old neighborhood in San Francisco (the Castro) is still really strict about letting in any chain store within a several block radius. As a result, the shops and restaurants tend to be unique. Of course, Covid killed off a few of them…… but that's a different story.
Other stuff — no auroras last night. On the plus side, I just got a new pair of stability gym shoes (as opposed to running shoes). I'm so happy. I really needed a new pair.
Okay — I'm off. Think positive thoughts (no tornadoes, no tornadoes, no tornadoes).

Belated Happy Birthday, Beth!
Positive thoughts, GG!
I'm off to the doctor with DW tomorrow. She has fallen three times in 24 hours and stands with a list to the right. This may be AD progression, but I am hoping it is something treatable. Always something. I'll just put a belt on her (something for me to hold while she walks), take her in, and see what's next.
I'm very sorry about your granddaughter, Lorita. Your son has been dealt a terrible blow and I'll pray for him.
