Good morning. We had quite the rain overnight, but things are slowly drying out. Not sure if we'll be able to eat outdoors at 6pm but if I'm not cooking, I'm not complaining.

Carl— It sounds as though you have put much thought into your dear wife's service; I hope that brings you comfort.

Judith— It is best to supervise that kind of work. Sometimes the people working in lawn and landscaping are strictly muscles and haven't a clue. Mom has 4 small hostas I planted last year. The lawn service hits them with their weed wackers with every cut. They're well withing the mulched bed, which they do not maintain beyond mulching twice yearly. Last spring, one bozo even cut them still in their pots before I got them into the ground. SMH.

"Listening to my sister" sounds awfully cryptic.

Lorita— It's hard to know who is more destructive— Rusty or the cats. Moving the plant nightly has got to get old.

Zetta— I'm excited for you to be officially a studio member. How cool. That sounds like something fun to look forward to.

Gothic G— I'm glad you'll have both nice weather and a reasonable MIL on your trip. I'm told Charleston is a lovely city. I've been twice but both times were around BIL having heart surgery. DH, O-negative, is requested in case a brother needs blood and I got to babysit. Despite carpooling the kid and visiting the hospital I haven't seen much of the city.

These days BIL is remarried to a lady from Conway— 3rd time's the charm!— and they're living in a little community within N. Myrtle Beach these days. We're supposed to visit but it needs to be July as SIL has surgery in early August and DS has classes starting Aug 20th. Poor DH hasn't seen his brother in 6 years so I need to get this scheduled. They're a few blocks from a nice beach— private without any condos or hotels. I look forward to that part.

Ron— I wish you were on the other side of your move already. It's a lot of work and emotionally draining to make the change.

Jerilynn— If anyone can make an appetizing meal plan for weight loss, it's you. That said, it sounds like food might be your DH's Love Language. Maybe yours, too.

I'm glad you didn't have to run. DH got out of it. His new cardiologist was taking a history and asking how his heart would react when he ran and DH said "I would never do that".

I always appreciate the consistent name confirmations. We brough dad to Philadelphia from coastal MD when he had his psychotic episode. He was discharged to a SNF/rehab for 7 weeks. During that time, mom and decided they needed to move closer and listed that house and set up an apartment here. When he was discharged home, the SNF physician sent his prescriptions to the local chain pharmacy.

About a week later dad started sundowning and threatening my mom. She wasn't quite bought into best practices, so they were feeding off one another and I was getting a nightly call to referee. About 2 weeks into this, I asked if he was getting his meds. Mom assured me he was taking them. I locked myself in the bedroom with them and was horrified to read that while the name and DOB were correct— what are the odds— all of the new medications were for a man in Sacramento. I later found out he'd been dead for 12 years. Weirdly, there was quite a bit of overlap, but the all-important Seroquel was missing. The pharmacy did try to contact mom, but she missed the call and never saw the voicemail to call them.
    ___________________________________________________________

It's nice and quiet here. I'm catching up on laundry. DH is reading a new book and DS has a 12-hour shift.

I had my recheck with the hand surgeon. I'm improved but she wants me splinted another month because I'm not healed. If it's not much improved then, I'm looking at surgery and yet another 2 months in a splint. I had the splint refitted since it was rubbing because the swelling has gone down. I treated myself to some new splint liners. The black compression ones are too hot for this weather.

I took mom to have lunch with dad's cousin and her daughter. The place was filled with old ladies— us included. The moms discussed their medical issues since their last visit. Her daughter and I mostly talked about our kids' weird eating habits and school. Her daughter's studying to be a school psychologist and had a grant, under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, to pay for her tuition in return for working several years after in a Title 1 school that was recently ended by the current administration.

Mom was sort of weird yesterday. She was super chatty in the car with me but during lunch it was kind of hard to engage her. When the cousin asked if mom's community had a club house or activities, she said "no, it's a regular house". LOL, it's a 55+ community with both a clubhouse and lots of activities. When dad's cousin told her about their plans to go to the beach together as a girls' trip, the daughter asked mom if she had anything special planned for the summer. Mom told her that the only thing she had plans to do was going to Rockport with her granddaughter in July. Umm, she's going with me to visit her sister in Boston with me in 9 days. I mean, DH and I planned an anniversary get-a-way around getting her to see her sister.

Better get on with my day. Be well out there.

Good luck. Eagle. Sounds like hard work.

It's already 78 here and now we have a light Northwest wind so the flag is flying some. Supposed to be mid 80s today. I went out and put a stake by the Royal Empress tree that has come up. It's already 2-3 ft.ta!l with huge leaves. Something has made holes in some of the leaves already. You can almost see those trees grow. Beautiful out there.

My side is hurting some today, I think from lifting and twisting with the !oad You would think I would learn. Guess you can't teach an old lady new tricks. My doctor has tried.

Girls are coming into the barn where it will be dark and cooler. They know what to do..

Carl, you will remember that last afternoon with your wife lovingly and forever. I'm happy it was good for both of you.

Judith, the first of my caladiums are coming up. I have been worried that all the rain has caused the bulbs to rot, and some may have..

Been sitting on the porch watching the mother swallow fly to her nest to feed the babies and the hummingbird coming to the feeder. Very relaxing and pleasant out there. I think I'll go.to.bed and watch tv a while - my side still hurts and will until the muscle strain gets better. Usually takes a week or more. Hope you all.can sleep well tonight. Good night.

Greetings Lorita. I’m Jo C’s daughter. Is there a way that I may reach out to you privately? My profile, at the moment, is set to public. (I’ve never used messaging on this platform.)

To contact Lorita privately through this site, using a laptop, click on the mail icon in the upper right corner of the purple banner at the top of this page. At the top of the dropdown that opens, click on the "write a message" icon (looks like a pad and pencil) and type in Lorita— when the autofill drops below, click on that. Write the message in space provided and click "post message". It will be sent privately to Lorita.

I think of your mom often. She was so wise and kind to me when I first came here.

Good morning. It's cool and clear today after rain and showers that last couple of days.

I had my own brush with wildlife yesterday. I had to run to the store and when I stepped out onto my front step, I caught a rabbit helping herself to the contents of one of my flowerpots. I was so careful to select deer resistant plants at the nursery; I forgot about these guys. Normally, the rabbits scatter if you get close, but this one froze. She had plenty of shrubs into which she could have hidden, so I went back inside and watched. Just as I suspected, she had a baby with her. He popped out from behind the planter and she kind of yeeted him into the peonies. He wasn't having any— he wanted more lunch and kept sneaking out. I felt kind of bad for her, he was the bunny version of that kid who carries on in the grocery store. This went on long enough that DH was able to join me at the side lights and watch. I'd forgotten how cute the babies are— like Peter Rabbit come to life.

    Good morning!

I feel like I've been kicked by a mule and run over by a train this morning. Family is here for the weekend, but didn't do that much preparation for move, just a lot if visiting and very little sleep. I will wake them all up in a little while, get dressed for church, and after church and lunch start sorting everything out.

Carl, still have you in my prayers, along with all rockers which have always been my rock when needed!

    Good morning Rockers.

Oh Carl, what a tender and sweet memory you shared with us. I brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad that your son wasn't too upset. Your emotions will be all over the place for awhile - be kind to yourself.

Ms McGillicuddy I'm so glad that you've reached out. I spoke with your mom multiple x's on the phone, until she got sick. In the past I sent several cards. She was very active on this board.

Carl are you trying to cleaning out the entire house now? Can't you just take the necessary items now and come back later for the rest? I'd think that would be less exhausting for you.

    Let's be safe everyone.

You are right, Eagle, my emotions are all over the place. But I am eating and sleeping and staying alive.

Ron, take it easy with the move. My grandmother said "Three moves equals one burnout" and I have found that to be true. Take what you need, leave the rest, and let your son do the heavy lifting. You are in my prayers.

JeriLynn, that is the perfect picture of a modern Southern couple. Have a great trip!

God's blessing to all of you. Lorita, I hope you are feeling better.
