I have started experiencing similar issues with this recently and I don't know the best way to handle. My LO recently started to have long term memory lapses about people and pets who died long ago and then she remembers, but to her it's as if it just happened and she gets very upset. For example, one day she was crying in bed at night. I asked her why she was crying and she said her mom died and nobody told her, and that she missed the funeral. The reality is her mom died a very long time ago, and she did go to the funeral. My gut reaction was to explain this, but that doesn't seem to help. I try to divert now, but sometimes that doesn't help either and I just have to console and let her cry. But then occasionally she gets angry and says to me "why didn't you tell me before?". It's really sad. 😞
