Lorita, I'm so glad Charles was able to thrive in country life. Everything you talk about on the farm is so different from life in the city.

GG, temp here reached 84 degrees today! But it's chilly at night.

I meant to come back earlier but I got busy. The problem is that I wake up late and I start my errands late, then I eat dinner late, then it gets to be time for bed. I've got to turn in now. Good night.

Ron, I hope you're asleep but I wish you a good morning if not. Hope you feel better soon.

It's 20 degrees here at 5 AM. We expect a high of about 30 and a low of about 10 tonight. I overheard a woman say that this is the time of year when she doesn't want to wear a coat but a sweatshirt isn't enough. If she doesn't want to wear a coat in January, when?

A parade is planned for MLK day as usual. We expect 25-degree weather that day, also as usual. I have never attended the parade for that holiday, and I won't be doing it this year either. 🐧

The New Yorker came yesterday. The cover depicts people walking through a snowstorm while a cat sleeps happily in a window. I think owning a cat is a lot like being a sugar daddy. They are cute, you pay all their bills, and they occasionally give you some attention.

    Good morning.

Carl, there are some cats that crave attention. I like cats because they signal peacefulness to me.

GG, I used to follow what I call my African Diet. This is no sweets, no seconds and nothing after 8 pm. When I was in Africa I lost weight by following these simple steps. I think the main step was not eating sweets and desserts. I ate good food at mealtime without snacking. And the kitchen was closed after dinner. Unfortunately , here at home, it is too easy to get back into snacking and nibbling all day and night. Also being sedentary.

HB, the sleep doctor recommended getting up at the same time in the morning. But I am too tired to get out of bed in the early morning. The fact that getting up early is working for your mom encourages me to work on this tactic again. I set my alarm for 7 am and I immediately got out of bed. So here I am! I feel awake. I'll let you all know how this goes.

Morning, Beth, they might be cedar waxwings but I haven't noticed a lighter colored.breast-will check today.. I fed them earlier earlier so they are out there.

Judith, he sells the cows or calves, not sure. I know he culls. We sold spring calves the following January when they weighed 700-800 lbs We did.not sell cows. We got too attached to them. Lots of expense in raising cattle though.

I doubt anyone fought the solar farm and data center. I think they contacted land owners, probably did not tell them the whole story and let the money talk. Several of the areas in Okla. did fight it and won. If you could see what they are doing, and just started, you would see what I mean.

They are also going to have to build a big OG&.E plant to provide power for the data center. It is an area of 4500 acres, about seven sections, and the data center will take 450 acres. So that land is gone. The solar panels will be all over the other acreage. Even if they are elevated the land can't be sprayed or fertilizer for grazing. Who would run cattle on that land? Right across from all of that I saw cattle grazing and rows of.big bales -that land is.not part of the 4500 acres.

A friend lives across the road from that and he said they dug deep ditches and put in big water lines to provide water for all of that. This is in the County across from me. In our county the people rebelled and would not allow a wind farm to be.built. Upsets me to think about it.

Cold and sunny here, and windy. This time of the winter worries me.because of fire danger- low humidity, dry vegetation and wind.

Iris, Charles took to country life like a duck takes to water- he loved it. I need to get on your African diet to get rid of six pounds I have put on because of bread and ice cream.

I agree about cats craving attention. I have three and the minute I sit down a cat is on my lap, sometimes all three are in the chair with me.

Ron hope you feel.better today and got some sleep.

Carl, you are spoiling those ladies at the Senior Center. But you are too nice to not do that.

All the feed I gave the .birds three.hours ago is gone. I have a container by the front door I keep the feed in and if I leave the front door open a.bit one of the cats will sit on the container and watch the birds. Really cute.

I think you are right, Sandy. They may be TItmouse and they are smaller than the cedar waxwings, I think. I just gave them more feed. I have fed at least 60 lbs. Of bird feed and most of a 15 lb. Sack of black oil sunflower seeds. Getting ready to order more.

Some of you were talking about getting into fights in school. Well, I never got into a fight or even saw fights when I went to school in the 50s and 60s. But I did see a vicious unprovoked attack at my college, one girl attacked a completely innocent girl.

In my adulthood after I moved to my condo complex in SoCal I have seen one neighbor harassed and threatened by another female neighbor. I had to go to court as a witness to an attack by one female neighbor onto another female neighbor, also unprovoked. I myself was threatened by that same neighbor but after she was sanctioned by the court she never threatened me again.

Recently, I was driving and a woman stood in front of my car in the street and shook her fist at me and yelled at me. I won't deny that I was concerned about my physical safety even though I was inside my car, because situations can escalate. SoCal is not safe. Why do I stay here? Well, I try to keep a low profile and stick close to home and avoid the public as much as possible. And I keep my doors locked.

    Good afternoon.

Iris that had to be concerning, for sure. You never know about someone's mental health. Or frankly if they are just being mean to be mean. I'm glad you know what to do to keep safe.

HB I've thought of using the humidifier, (and Iris suggested it also), but its one more thing to do! I probably will start doing it though. The doctor said on days when my eyes are sore (like today) it means they are very dry & to use extra drops and to wear my sunglasses inside. When the dog looks and see's me with my sunglasses on she runs for the door because to her that means we're going outside!

DH has been wanting to play a game, so I'd better go she which game he has in mind. I've got chicken boiling for chicken noodle soup tonight. DH likes his on a bed of mashed potato's, I can't handle that, ugh. Cranberries are soaking for a dessert. Too easy.

Everyone be safe. The weather is bad in several area's of the country.

Iris, that was scary. Eagle is right. You never know what is going through someone else's mind. I keep my doors locked but I can see someone coming and have the driveway alarm, too. When I was growing up we never locked our doors.

It's 40 degrees, sunny and windy. Very cold 40. I took down some more trash and saw a yearling checking out the water tank. What was in there was frozen so filled it and brought in the hose.

I have at least two big bunches of daffodils up about 8" out by the lot so covered them. A japonica in the backyard is blooming. It's by the cellar door so had to cut some branches to get in the cellar. Brought them in and they are.blooming in the kitchen window.

Had to change tv channels from Planet Earth. They were showing .how.sea lions and other things are being caught in discarded fishing nets and in the nets when they are catching fish. Really sad and awful how some people treat animals. It said over a million tons of netting is discarded in our oceans every year by commercial fishermen and many species have become almost extinct by.being caught in those nets and drowned when they catch fish. Guess I better get back to watching Leave It To Beaver. Maybe I will take a nap.

    Good afternoon Porch Rockers.

HB. Your mother is so lucky to have you there for her. Your such a patient daughter. My DD also has patient, hopefully I'm not doing anything to cause her to use them. Your so right about the lines in shopping centers, and Starbucks usually has one.

Carl. Your a sweet guy, taking orders for the ladies for a Wendy's run. How many volunteered to go with you? Congratulations on your annual check up.

Iris. Im glad your feeling better. I think I finally got over my sickness. It's always safe staying close to home. I feel safe in my neighborhood, but I won't go out after dark. I won't even drive after dark.

Ron. Be careful of them chickens, they could get under your feet and trip you. Just put your arms around your GD, I know how she must feel. And your GS, I don't blame him I would have and I have done the same thing. Please get some rest so you can go help Carl, at the senior center. That's good news about your tire replacement being covered.

Mint. Thats scary about your sister having a 103 tempature, especially what my doctor told me what could have happened when I had a temp of 102. Your potpie recipe sounds good, I may try that one.

Eaglemom. How is the rash on your DHs leg and how your eyes feelng today? Sometimes things can be so irritating.

Beth. I do remember about red cup day. I didn't think i have ever got one. My DD has a lot of Starbucks cups, she likes all the holiday stuff, me I just like Pumpkin Spice with almond milk.

Lorita. Memories are good even if they are bad. I have a few bad memories i want to forget. But you and Charles, have a love story that will be with you forever.

Cats and dogs are my life savors. We have 3 cats and 2 dogs. One of the cats and one of ths dogs are mine. Molly the dog and Sammy the cat. They are always next to me, the others like being next to my daughter.

Got to go. Hugs to all Zetta

My goodness, these cats! I was missing Sammie and looked for him twice outside, but he wasn't there. It turns out he has been on the balcony all this time, about four hours. I had looked on the balcony but he was hiding.

For anyone interested in Jackie and Shadow, the bald eagle pair, they might be beginning to nest again.

Good morning, Ron. It's 7 degrees now, but it doesn't feel that warm because there is an 8 mph wind from the northwest. Brrr

Guys, I didn't really have a choice on that Wendy's run Friday. My friend M is 91 and has mild cognitive impairment. She relies on the senior center lunch as her main meal of the day. When she learned none would be served, she was visibly disappointed and anxious. My car was outside and Wendy's is a few blocks away. My mother would be so ashamed had I not dealt with that simple problem.

I went to lunch with my son, my niece, and my brother's widow yesterday and had a nice visit. SIL sent me home with a plate of fudge, which is not on my diet but is really good. I guess the fudge is the antidote to the salad I ate for lunch 😁

Carl, fudge is always part of mt diet! I gave up on a diet many years ago. My Cardiologist wanted me on a certain diet and My Gastrointestinal Specialist wanted me on a certain diet. After comparing the two I discovered what I could eat off of one diet, I couldn’t have because of the other and the same with the other diet.

Cranberries soaking for dessert? I'm intrigued Please tell me how this is done. My mom used to make a cranberry relish type salad at Thanksgiving. I was not really a fan. I do like craisins and cranberry jelly.

    Good morning.

Beth, I once made cranberry relish from the directions on the package if dried cranberries. It was good.

Carl, you had a plateful of homemade fudge—lucky you! Ther's a Wendy's near me but I haven't been in a very long time. Perhaps I'll swing by sometime. Although as Ron says, it really isn't on my diet.

I'm up early again. I don't feel sleepy.

I'll try to send some warm SoCal weather to you midwesterners! 7 degrees is way too cold!

Morning, 20 degrees and sunny here. So far no wind to speak of. Watching morning news shows football this afternoon.

So, three of us have cats named Sammy. Thanks, Iris, for reminding us about the Eagles.

Good afternoon. It's snowy here again today. Yesterday's forecaster "wintry mix" turned out to be 2" of sticky snow. Today we have 2" and counting from a coastal storm that was also meant to be "wintry mix". DS is going to get stuck shoveling again this evening.

Ron— I hope you're feeling better. I don't think I would be able to fall asleep with a HR at 105. Can you?

Lorita— I can't speak to solar farms but the data centers can impact the folks who live near them. They're noisy and use a lot of resources in the form of water and electricity to run. My niece in Indiana is fighting one near her that is looking to use water from the reservoir on which she grew up and where her DH's sailing club is. I wonder how this will impact the value of the very nice homes that were built overlooking it. My SIL still lives there.

Iris— I hope your sleep is improving.

Eaglemom— I don't think I could do a nice homemade soup over mashed potatoes. Seem like it would ruin both. I hope your eye is feeling better.

Lady Z— My patience is flagging. I am getting tired of being the oxygen police; she doesn't always feel SOB when she obviously is, and she can be pretty snappy when reminded. She's on my list today as she's not answering either phone. She pulled this yesterday as well but she did finally pick up around 3pm. I don't want to risk going out on snowy roads to do a well check. I hope she's not outside shoveling without her oxygen again.

Carl— It was a mitzvah to feed your friend. I'm glad she has you looking out for her.

    _________________________________________________________________________________________

I have a massive pot of vegetable beef soup going. It's a recipe that needs close to 8 hours on the stove so it might not be quite ready come dinner time. I wonder how the boys would feel about canned tomato soup and grilled cheese. Or maybe a short run to the nearest pizza joint. Catching up on laundry. Maybe I'll get a Pilates session in before dinner.

I hope all enjoy a pleasant afternoon.

FUDGE??? Who is making and who will share their recipe?

Data Centers…I have spent a lot of time watching and reading. I think it all boils down to the same problem as Wamart. We are responsible for their creation,

No walkers to see this morning so I am guessing it is bitter cold outside. Faucets are dripping.

Interesting class yesterday at the museum related to Data Centers. .It seems we have created 2+ generations of screen people. Oklahoma  law now bans public school students from using personal devices like phones, laptops, wireless headphones, and smartwatches throughout the entire school day. Additionally several schools in Oklahoma are stopping the use of computers in the class room and have gone back to paper and pencil.

I think you're right, Judith along with love of the almighty dollar. I agree with going back to pencil and paper in schools. Using a calculator or computer doesn't teach how to solve problems, only how to use something else to do it.

I haven't had a piece of fudge in years. I remember making milIionaire fudge but.not the recipe..

It warmed up ,to about 50 today but going to.be only about freezing tomorrow. Going to watch the Bears and Rams, probably in the bedroom.. The game between the Texans and Patriots was played in a snowstorm! I like to watch the games played outside. Go Bears, Sandy!

    So, good night, sleep tight.

Iris - Your African diet makes a lot of sense. My big Achilles heel is chocolate. I have no problem avoiding any other kind of candy, but put a piece of chocolate in front of me and I'm done for. Not eating it for three months is somewhat painful, but in the end not that big of a deal, so that's what I'm doing. I'm also of the mind that having nothing to eat after 8pm is a good idea. I usually make sure to have dinner no later than 7pm, especially if I'm working out early the next day.

I'm with you - I always keep the doors locked. It wouldn't occur to me to not lock them. But, I'm from southern California. 😉

Carl - I've always had cats that have wanted a lot of attention. I can't even count the times when I'd want to get up off of the couch, but I couldn't because I didn't want to disturb the cat sleeping on my lap.

And - it's still really nice that you made the Wendy's run. A lot of people wouldn't have done that, and you did.

Fudge - yummmm. I bet it's been five years or so since I've had that.

HB - How did your soup come out? I bet it was delicious, being cooked for eight hours.

Lorita - I hope things continue to go the right way in terms of fire-risk. Wind and dry vegetation is a bad combo.

Today was quiet, which was nice. I finished reading Zone One - I'd forgotten how good it was, and how thought provoking. It's not often you can say that about a book that takes place in a post-zombie apocalypse world.

Best part of today? We had sun!! We got all the way up to 50 degrees today - now we're back down to 43. We'll be in the mid-30s in a couple of hours. The weather forecast is for sun tomorrow as well, but we'll see.

Ooops - I meant to add that I saw an article online about Bob Weir (from the Grateful Dead) - turns out that today there was a life celebration in San Francisco in honor of him. I was never a Grateful Dead fan, so they're mostly off my radar, but when I saw this headline: Thousands of fans celebrate life of legendary Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir in San Francisco - I took notice of what a big deal it was.

Almost, Sandy. Do wish they had just run for another first down and kicked a field goal. But they did well and it was a good game. How about that catch to tie the game? I'm talking about the Rams and Bears football game. Sandy and I wanted the Bears to win.

GG, chocolate is one of my stumbling blocks, too, and crackers.

HB, a soup simmered for eight hours? Yum yum!

GG, I was never a big chocolate fan until I attended a computer class for seniors. The teacher encouraged us to eat dark chocolate because it is good for the brain. So that class started me on craving dark chocolate! I shouldn't even be thinking about chocolate now. No eating until morning!

When I moved into my condo complex in 1982 I did not lock my door until it was time for bed. I even slept on the balcony when it was hot. Those were the days. I just took my trash out, the sky is so darling and clear.

It's time for bed again. Good night.

Have any of you tried Dubai chocolate? It has a pistachio filling. Is it delicious? Some brands yes, some just ok. Lindt is pretty good but my favorite is from a candy store called The Chocolate Storybook (they ship). I have even seen recipes online but too much trouble for me to try.

1 degree here this morning. We've had a cold snap and it'll be nice when it is over.
