Judith no way to get the air out.

Carl .I ordered some of those things-'hope. they work. Cowboy does sound creepy.

Happy for you, Ron. The place looks great. Do they provide housekeeping?

The girls are back!!! We heard the guys honking their horns calling them this morning.. That really got Billy's attention especially when he heard them bawling. He was so excited- ran to meet them like a yearling when they headed to the barn. Not sure everyone is back- didn't look like the 70+ head but may have missed some when they went into the barn. Now I have to get those back doors opened - going to be hot this weekend.

Time really does go fast especially as we get older.

Today is Juneteenth National Independence Day. Some of you may not be familiar with this holiday. Juneteenth commemorates the day on June 19, 1865, when the enslaved people of Galveston Texas learned that they had been freed two and a half years ago on January 1, 1863, but they had not been told.

Although the day is to commemorate the end of slavery in the US, a few states still allowed slavery and enacted emancipation laws later in the year. But at least there is a federal day solely to commemorate the end of slavery, regardless of the timing. The ending of slavery is so important to our American history.

    Judith—

Thing of the topper as a pillowtop added to a mattress. And yes, you would normally put a mattress pad over the topper unless it was fleece.

No, I hadn't thought of that. Wouldn't a pad defeat the purpose.of softness by compressing the topper? I would.have to have. a really big pad.

    Hello,

We had a busy day today. We got groceries, shopped at a thrift store, went to Lowe's and bought some plants, went to the bank (but it was closed due to Juneteenth) and took our granddaughter to the gym and later to Subway. A side note, I cannot believe how expensive Subway is: $8-9 just for a sandwich! That is a 6" sandwich.

Ducks have been stopping by often. They eat seeds that fall from the birdfeeder.

Carl - Cowboy. The very epitome of guys I avoid. Ewww. Just ewww.

And the first day of summer? My mind goes immediately to the fact that after that it's all a downhill slide to diminishing sun. That's what living in the PNW will do to you. 🙂

Ron - Wow! That's great news!!! And with a balcony too.

About sheets - I also wash the sheets and put them directly back on the bed. Rarely do I fold sheets.

HB - I wish I was one of the cool kids! 🙂 I may have been in band and theater, but other than that, I was very quiet.

Reading about your mom ….. it's good to have at least one doctor who's on it, and who you can count on.

Iris - I'm glad Juneteenth is finally a federal holiday. It still brings me down that I didn't learn of Juneteenth until I was an adult. It was never mentioned when I was in school.

Beth - I love your photos!

I went into the gym today, got in 1 1/2 miles on the treadmill and then some abs. Kind of a light day, but hey, it's a holiday!

I finished reading Backtalker by Kimberlé Crenshaw. It was good.

We're going to set up the atrium tonight and have a dance party.

AI OverviewYou do not technically need one, but using a mattress pad (or protector) over your mattress topper is highly recommended. It keeps your expensive topper free from sweat, spills, and stains, and prevents it from sliding around under your fitted sheet.

GG, Juneteenth used to be a Texas holiday. I never heard about it until I came to Cali, which has a lot of Texas transplants. Even then, there was no public celebration here, as far as I know, until 2021. I think its good that everyone knows about it now.

I went for my sleep apnea study at the hospital sleep lab, with a complaint of insomnia and not being able to fall asleep for hours, sometimes, just laying in bed, staring at the ceiling. At the sleep lab, I fell asleep right away. I attributed my rapid sleep to three things: 1) the room was pitch black dark 2) there was absolutely no noise and 3) I slept on a 3 inch memory foam mattress topper.

I try to recreate that environment, but I still have insomnia.

I can probably buy a mattress cover.IIke I have over the mattress now and pin it to the topper. Better yet use the one I have!

I just watched a two hour show on MS NOW about the Obama Presidential Center. Michelle Norris interviewed President Obama and the First Lady and showed lots of the Center. Very interesting. I will Never see it in person but have seen a lot of it tonight. Very fitting that it opened to the public on Juneteenth.

Happy day on Green Acres today. I have watched the girls today and they are happy to be home. Billy has his family.back.

My.bedroom has double windows looking out over the south pasture and just as dusk began the.southern sky was dark blue and the south pasture was golden in the setting Sun. The cows were grazing and I saw .three babies playing together. This was framed.by the black walnut and a huge.hack berry. As the sun disappeared and it got dark the security light at the house a mile south of me came on, then my.south one. All in all, a good day.

    Love your pictures, Beth.

Ron, when do you move in?. A balcony yet!!

    Good night

Good morning, busy trying to pack up. I told my son that I wanted my bed moved today even if we had to wait on other items. I will be sleeping there tonight! I’ve packed several small items I can move in the car.

    Good morning Friends!

Just 56 degrees this morning. It will get up to 79 today. Air conditioner is off and windows open for now.

I have one little tomato on one of my 5 plants. Some of the plants aren't thriving where they are planted. I think they are not getting enough sun, and for next year I plan to make a raised bed in full sun for my vegetables - currently just green beans and tomatoes but would likely add cucumbers.

Ron, so happy you got your apartment! Do they provide activities, meals, and housekeeping? Will you be closer to the services/drs/senior center?

Lorita, we used to sleep on a bed that had a very thick mattress. It was difficult to get fitted sheets on so I bought flat sheets for both the top sheet and bottom sheet. That worked well for us. Glad the girls are home. What a pastoral scene out your window!

The baby white bison has died. No official cause of death has been given but persons who had been to the refuge in recent days said he appeared to have a severe wound on his leg. He was less than 2 months old.

GG, you do keep busy with your travels, gym, blogging, Death Guild etc. It is good to stay busy. It keeps us young! Do you do box jumps? I can jump UP onto a 10" box, and OFF a 15" box. It gives a shock to the hips, in a good way. Impact helps build bone.

Mint, how are you? I've missed your posts.

Nanny, I am missing your posts as well. I'm sure you are as busy as a bee. You talking about teaching VBS reminds me of one year I did it and had junior high kids. They were so ornery that I had to have the pastor sit in on all the rest of the sessions (I couldn't control them)!

Judith, I've watched my grandkids play soccer but never the pros, either in person or on tv. I'm a rabid basketball fan though. ❤️ Knicks ❤️ Thunder ❤️ Iowa State Cyclones

Eagle, did you and your DH enjoy the FIFA experience downtown? It's amazing how many cities are having soccer now. I don't follow but if you turn on the tv it's all over.

    Goodlife, how are you doing?

Iris, did you have a recent sleep study, or were you referring to one you had in the past and how well you slept during it?

Carl, I imagine most of the people at the Senior Center are friendly, good people. Cowboy - not so much. With his lack of filter, I suspect he might have cognitive impairment.

HB, I'm sorry your mom has fluid in her chest. It sounds like (from your description) it is in the chest cavity and not the lungs themselves. I wonder what causes that. I am sad that she has such poor health but you have to admire her for keeping going, including swimming.

    Have a good weekend, Friends.

Carl, they don’t allow chickens, but I do have a stove any if I want to stay in the room instead of eating in the cafeteria, I will always have some of the hens eggs on hand. Interesting fact about free roaming chickens, they stay fresh longer if you wait until your ready to eat them before washing.

Beth, the apartment is in a good location; they have activities, restaurant that is open 7 to 7, weekly housecleaning, and it’s still close to VA and DRs.

I moved a few boxes already, but had to rest more than I wanted to. I’ll let son and grandson do the rest and I’ll put stuff away.

Beth, you are absolutely right about the senior center. I wouldn't go there if it were populated largely by fools and knaves. Good point about Cowboy, too. I had presumed he was always like that, but he could be slipping. He's a sad case, any way you look at it.

Good afternoon— Warm, sunny and breezy today. It's lovely. I did something I haven't done in several years— I mowed the lawn. Normally DS does it although not to my standards. Mowed, edged and deadheaded the last of the peonies. It felt good; previously getting on the mower and walking in the yard were painful because of the knee situation.

Iris— I knew about Juneteenth because my dad was a history teacher. The county's new African American History museum opened today. I think mom and I will make a visit one of these afternoons. I drive by on the way to her place and have been watching the restoration of the old farmhouse where it's located for about 5 years now.

    Gothic G— You're a cool kid here.

Lorita— The view you described sounds enchanting. I'm glad the girls are home with you.

Ron— Congratulations on the new home! Just don't overdo it moving. Let your grandson do the heavy lifting.

Carl— I'm glad most of the folks at the center are more like you than like Cowboy.

Beth— Lovely pictures. I'm a sucker for ducks. I had a pet one as a kid living in an apartment in Philadelphia. I don't know what my parents were thinking.

The fluid is due to progressing CHF. She doesn't retain water in her legs or hands, but it does build up in her chest which worsens her breathing which is already poor because of COPD. I pulled up her chart. Her last thoracentesis resulted in just over 4 oz of fluid and was done primarily to culture for infection/cancer. The x-ray taken just before looks terrible. I'm no radiologist, but I could barely make out her left lower lobe. I didn't hear from the scheduler yet, so I don't know when we'll be doing this. I was hoping for next week, but it doesn't look likely as she'll need to hold her aspirin for 5 days before. I'm not even sure it will improve things.

Morning, beautiful day here seems like it's going to be pretty warm.

Another problem -of course The girls are back and want to be in the barn. It had been closed, just the back doors, so it needs to.be.open to let air flow through. I have opened those doors many times so thought I would open them yesterday. Tried aǹd tried but neither one would.budge. Finally realized Both doors were pushed in at the center and one had the top corner pushed out. I think that corner is broken and it may be off the track. Called our local lumber company to see if they had someone to fix them. If they find someone they will call. One time Bryon and a couple of.his friends fixed them - getting them on track. The doors are about 12 x 8 so are very heavy.

Girls are in the barn and some are grazing out front. Good to see them home.

I'm so happy for you, Ron. You'll be around people if you want to be and can either cook or.not. Jerry was even able to have meals in his apartment if he wanted to and I.bet you can, too. It sounds like the same set-up. There is another one in Enid, Okla., I think. When are you moving in?

Ron …..wish we were there to help your move. It sounds like a perfect place for you.

Lorita…you will need to get a pad with deep sides …then you will need fitted sheets with deep sides too.

The Betsy Ross flags have arrived…thought that would be fun for the remainder of the year. Also got a Red Ripper flag for Dick's birthday.

    Bagpipe…..no comment.

    Garden…orange day lillies blooming abundantly.

Grocery…Sara Lee white sandwich bread is identical to Wonder sandwich. bread which I can no longer find.

Big trip to Trader's so no cooking for a while. Bought an English cucumber and some fresh dill for some sandwiches. I had a craving…lol

The final chapter of the Basket balls. Someone picked them all up and returned them to the person who distributed them with a thank you note. Each one said love Stone in honor of the young man who died this past year and was big Thunder fan.

Washing sheets now where I’ll have clean ones for the bed. Feel bad already, feet swollen, head hurts and not a bone in my body that’s not hurting. I’m just to stubborn to know my limits and son has already got onto me and the tattletale told daughter in law where she can fuss also. Ron

I had a reminder pop up on my phone yesterday, reminding me that JoC passed away one year ago yesterday. She is someone who I think of often and I miss. May she rest in peace, I love you JoC. 😍

I miss her too Zetta. Also miss Joan (Telinda). Both of these ladies were good friends for years.

Talked with Bryon and he is going to try to get a couple of his friends together and come tomorrow and take down the barn doors. He and.his friends have done this.before.

Talked with another friend who has done jobs for me. He had surgery on his back in April and is healing. He lives across from the data center that is being.built. The building is going to cover 36 acres with several hundred acres of solar panels across the road from him. Terrible loss of hundreds of acres of good.farm and pastureland.

Ron, I imagine the anxiety and apprehension of moving and starting a new phase of your life is contributing to how you feel. I bet you will feel much.better after you settle in. Moving is.not easy. I remember moving from an 8x30 travel trailer to a 14x70 MH 20 feet away was not that easy and.how I felt and I was 33. Rest a while
