Goodlife - I'm just a curious person, curious about everything, and everything around me. I've been like that for as long as I can remember. I end up asking a lot of questions and read a lot - and try not to be annoying.

That's a good word for the light in WA state - soft. I haven't spent a lot of time in Colorado, but the Morrison Formation crops out in several places there, and so when I've gone to Colorado I try to go places where I can see bits of it. Boulder is pretty, and I have a life-long friend who lives in Durango. I went to Denver once too. Colorado is also a pretty state.

Ron -I'm so glad you're starting to feel better.

Lorita - a bosu is probably not for you. 🙂

Beth - your gym day sounds intense! Good for you! Since you have them at your gym, give the bosu a try. I bet you'll end up loving it.

Our air quality was up to "moderate" today, and I could see the smoke in the air. It makes the sunlight even more filtered.

I'm glad you didn't have too much damage from the storm.

HB and Goodlife - I'm glad it's not just me with the light. Being from California, the light just doesn't change all that much throughout the year, but WA is much farther north, and the light really varies.

HB - You're not wrong (about Barnabas being camp).

I had the same experience with All My Children as you did with General Hospital. Erica and Brooke are still feuding after all these years? Over the same guy? Canny soap opera writers, they know how to keep their viewers.

I'm sorry the plumbers are back.

Carl - Scenery being chewed on Dark Shadows? Say it isn't so!!! I loved that show as a kid, but even at my young age, I recognized chewed scenery when I saw it. 🙂

Lorita and Carl - I hope you both stayed hydrated and cool(ish) today.

Iris - Those murals! Kind of bizarre, although I like the dinosaurs in the upper left. I like the upholstery on that brown couch. It kind of reminds me of the seats you see on the London Underground.

    Your hotel looks really nice.

We got up to 90 degrees today, but it didn't really feel that hot.

Evening porch friends, a balmy 90 degrees here this evening but temp is dropping fast and it will be the first good sleeping night in a while.

Lorita - Colorado is a beautiful state. As a military brat I have lived in many places and honestly we are blessed with so much beauty; a person could explore their whole life here without needing to leave. Colorado Springs is our primary city with a military presence and until recently the government's space research center. Pueblo is about 220 miles south from me but very close to our elevation and a desert environment like ours. Its always so interesting how the days are so hot and the nights can get quite cold. Its that dry heat 😅

Beth - Estes Park in the heart of the Rocky Mountains is a favorite for everyone here. 180 miles from me we have not camped there but it an amazing time during the fall when the elk are bugling. When our daughter was a teenager we stayed at the hotel up there that the 1980 movie The Shining was filmed. They did a tour and the spooky was just a fun weekend for us all. It's a shame that hotel has struggled to stay open all these years and yes the drive up looks just like in the beginning of the movie so no wonder.

H.B. - General Hospital - can you believe it is still on and I bet if you watch for a few minutes the same thing would happen again - pick up right where we left off 😝 Regarding your ceiling leak - that sure sounds like a lot of water for your DS to leave even if he is overly exuberant with the H2O. Are they sure it is not a leak they need to scope with a camera and see if there is another source? Water travels.

Carl - the museums in Denver are amazing. My DW and I traveled over to Denver several times a year for various exhibits. The Natural History you mentioned is a staple and you can spend a whole day as we have a few times. I miss those days so very much; we have seen the King Tutankhanum exhibit, a Van Gough that focused on his inventions, Pixar Exhibit which was interactive and so fun, and my favorite Monet.

Iris - Denver International is a newer airport and since they built it practically in Kansas they have lots of room to add on all the extras.

Ron - glad you are feeling better.

A soft rain just started and my front door is open So far this year it's been 3.9 inches total so we need it. Lovely way to end the evening - good night.

The Lighting Ceremony was fantastic! The Park Ranger spoke a few words about the necessity liberty with justice, then showed a movie about the four presidents and what they represented. We sang America the Beautiful and the national anthem as the presidents were illuminated. Afterwards, all active duty military and veterans and Gold Star families were invited up to the stage for a round of appreciation from the audience. Seven members were chosen to retire the flag for the night, as we saluted. All in all, it was a memorable evening.

Good morning. Rain's over and the sun should be out later. I might do a little weeding. Or not.

Lorita— That heat sounds miserable. No wonder you started this thread by announcing July as your least favorite month.

Beth— I'm sorry to hear about your blueberry bushes. They tend to be pretty hardy, so I expect they'll bounce back in time. Mom and I usually use something like Liquid Fence but rain overnight can wash it off and leave it unprotected.

I have a couple of holes in my front landscaping. Costco was selling some gorgeous hydrangea (Limelight) for $20. I was so tempted but knew the deer would decimate them in mere hours once I went to bed. Mom does have a standard Strawberry Vanilla she had planted a few years back, so far, her deer have ignored it. It's pretty tall as these go.

Lady Z— It's very sad about Jackie. Do they still have eaglets in the nest?

Iris— I'm glad the flights were uneventful. That looks like a very nice Comfort Inn. I missed the accurate upholstery reference at first glance but did notice the gentleman in the lobby wearing a cowboy hat.

Gothic G— Funny about the light. The sky hear is pretty changeable over the seasons with different skies as well; color and cloud formations vary.

Ron— I hope you're feeling rested after your ER stint.

Goodlife— I was lucky the owner of the plumbing company came this time with his journeyman and apprentice in tow. He listened intently about when we have leaking and when we don't. He and his minions were able to replicate the leak by splashing water on the floor which has a slight slope where it's getting under the tile. He sealed it fully with a silicone which will be tested this morning.

While he was here, I mentioned a shower we don't use because of a leak 2 previous plumbers couldn't locate. I always suspected it was a roof or old window leak. Both have since been replaced. The plan was to gut and replace the entire bathroom at some point. He confirmed that I am probably correct and will come back to check it out further and do the fix if his cursory assessment is correct. Here's hoping. He didn't charge me for yesterday.

I hope all have a safe and pleasant day.

Goodlife, I met a man in Colorado who was spending his life exploring your beautiful state. He and his wife were traveling with a large motorcycle and a tiny tent trailer and camped next to us. He said he lived in Denver and spent every weekend (weather permitting) exploring. He thought he had seen it all after 20 years of this but mused "I don't think I've ever been here before."

    Good morning.

I posted last evening but alas, it vanished. I had a board meeting & afterwards we had lots of talk. It took more time than I expected. I'd parked in a parking garage and my car temp gauge said 106. Driving home it went to 109. Ugh just ugh. Today we are already in an excessive heat warning, temps 107+ with index above 112. Its just miserable out and doesn't cool down at night. We never leave the house without our water cups.

Ron I'm glad your on the mend.

Lorita how are the mice getting into the car? Are you leaving the windows open? That has to be so frustrating, and messy. Be careful in this heat wave we're having.

HB here's hoping the plumber fixed your issue. I'd like to ask how someone can get enough water splashed to drip through, but I can imagine. I did giggle to myself yesterday at my meeting. I thought of your mom. One of the women had on what was clearly an Alfred Dunner pants / top. I know how fond she is of that brand, NOT!

Iris you know we like traveling with you. Thanks for sharing your trip.

GG how is your air quality? I'm a curious person also. I like to figure how things work, etc. I watched my dad take things apart, fix them and I just figured I always could do it also.

We don't do coffee or Starbucks or any of the coffee shops, but we do drive through and let Madison get a free pup cup. DH thinks her favorite pup cup comes from Chick Fil!!

Time to get busy here. I hate we have eye appointments this afternoon. Everyone be safe, and watch this heat.

Morning, it's 88 but feels like 102. The heat index record for Okla. Was reached three years ago in Jay, Oklahoma -127!! When I first went outside it felt better with a breeze. Stormy and I took down some mail and picked up this week's mail. I had the water filling the water tank, then watered the plants. Went into the barn to make sure everything was ok and no one was down. Stormy went, too. It felt.good as I went in so when there is a breeze there is pretty goid air circulation. When we came out Billy was in the lot wanting his feed so fed him.

I put the driveway alarm transmitter on the gate post.. After I fixed it last evening one of the cats, or me, would get in line of it and it would go off. Tried it on the porch and it worked. The gate is quite a distance from the house so the only way I will know it's working for sure is when something comes through the gate. It works!! It just now went off, twice, guess a !imb got in it's line. I can't find the sound Stormy reacts to and it seems to change each time.

Zetta, do they think Jackie is old? I guess those two eagles ganged up on her for some reason. Maybe she was protecting the babies.

Iris, I am so enjoying your pictures. The carvings look like they are really.high up. Did they say how.long it took to carve them? I saw a show about how they were carved and that they carved out places in the mountain to put The Constitution and other important things.but never have.

The alarm.keeps goung.off as the wind blows the limbs. It's sort of comforting to know it will alert us when someone is coming. I'm not afraid but like to be prepared without watching. The recliner where I sit most often in the LR has a view of the driveway so no need to watch now. A couple of times when the alarm wasn't working Darwin came and banged on the door. Really upset Stormy.

I watched the Dignified Transfer of the four young men and women killed in this senseless war this morning. So sad for their lives being lost and for their families. I cried seeing the flag-draped coffins for them and remembering Charles' flag-draped coffin at his funeral eleven and a half years ago. I guess we never forget something like that. After the funeral Patsy asked me what they put in the corner of the folded flag they presented to me. I hadn't noticed but checked and it was the spent shells from the shots they fired. They're still there. Sorry, this morning just brought back those memories. I wrote the first part of this post earlier and had to charge my tablet to finish.

Better stop and write to my friend, Bunny in Montana. She has had hip replacement and it isn't healing well. Remember Leanne had hip replacement and she was riding horses in a few months. Back later.

Iris. Those pictures are beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I loved the walk way of flags. That bed looks so inviting, you were probably happy to see that. A Husky, with blue eyes sounds so pretty. Fiona eyes are dark brown.

HB. Yes there are 2 young ones still in the nest. Sandy and Luna are about 16 weeks old, they have ventured out a few times on their own. But are still returning to the 🪹 they like the fish Jackie and Shadow get for them.

Goodlife. It's nice the plumbers showed up, hopefully its not a bigger problem then you though.

EM. So sweet that Madison, loves her pup cups. I bet she knows as soon as you pull in the drive up. I did not know we could get pup cups places other then coffee stands. Thanks for sharing that.

Lorita. Jackie is 14 years old. They can live 15 to 30 years. Im hearing it was possible they were fighting over a fish that Jackie had. So far no updates. So many people are waiting for a update. Im glad you got your alarm fixed.

    Hugs Zetta

Now, what are pup cups? Eagle, evidently there are openings in the firewall between the motor and passenger compartment the rats can get through. I thought there was something between the motor and ground but there isn't so if anything around wants to get in, they can.

Just heard cows bawling and went out to check. There are pastures all around the house but you can't get from the east pasture to the west parties without going through the south.pasture. Evidently the cow in front of the house thinks her baby is in the west pasture and is bawling for her baby..I told her what she needs to do- maybe she will.

Feels pretty nice out there-90 degrees with 95 heat index. Wind is.blowing and I haven't heard the alarm lately.

Might be- guess I could drive around the section and go to the mailbox. Talked with my 97 year old BIL today. He didn't sound very good. Says he's really having trouble with his balance. He does use a cane so that helps some.

Darwin sounds a little better today. Stayed in bed most of the day. His.other daughter spends Wednesday nights with them so she's there and she always brings Braum's hamburgers and pizza so he ate.

Think I will go in the bedroom and watch tv in there. Good night, everyone.

Getting the mail would be good since mail left in a box alerts burgledrs but maybe your mail box is locked. Stormy would likely enjoy the outing and the cars motor would benefit. I drive my car almost every day and have a grandson run it on the highway weekly. Someone here said it was important to do that.

Iris - your photos of Mt. Rushmore are spectacular. Thank you for posting them!

eaglemom - Air quality today was in the mid-70s, still moderate. Right now (a little after 9pm) it's up to 90, which is still moderate, but heading in the wrong direction. It also just started to rain, so I'm hoping that the rain clears out the air somewhat. We'll see.

    Have a good night, Lorita.

As for me, I had a great workout this morning (when it was still cool enough to do so). Boxing, kickboxing, and the earthquake bar - those are the highlights.

I finished going through my photos to find photos of Peggy for the blog. I got them all uploaded into wordpress and captioned, so that's one more thing off my plate. There's only 7 more posts left to get up, counting the one for tomorrow, so I'm pretty confident that I have enough photos for the rest of the posts.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow, with temps in the mid-70s. Sun in the afternoon. I guess I'm good with that. 🙂

Good morning. It's about perfect today. Sunny, light breeze, AQI 29, and a forecasted high of 81F. Yes please.

DH and I drove to the county seat's library for a book he wanted. We drove by one of the farm stands that had what looked like decent tomatoes. The ones I got from the other farm were really woody inside— at $4/lb I don't want to have to throw half away. The lady had some bunches of zinnias, so I picked up a couple. One for me, one for mom. Then we picked up some beer for him and for mom, so I stopped by her house because I've not been in a while.

Ugh. I fell down the medical billing error rabbit hole. The bill I thought I had sorted out 2 weeks ago, reared its ugly head again. I spent over an hour with the billing department and Aetna trying to get some clarity. This week's version of the story is that payment for the CT scans was included in contracted amount paid for the entire hospitalization. The agent will send me EOBs to share with billing department (they state patient is not responsible). They also sent a letter pointing out the charge back was due to an error in coding. Perhaps even some shadiness. If this does clear it up, I will see the patient ombudsman because I'm an unhappy camper right now.

I need to get cleaned up. I'm headed to bestie's today to help with the twins. She'll have them 3 days this week and her hands are killing her. She's got carpal tunnel and serious arthritis. I'm not much better with my dodgy flexor tenon. These are some "chonk babies". They're 12 months old and weigh 24 and 28lbs. Normally, her ex comes to help one day a week, and she hires the daughter of her refugee family when available. But I don't think either can come today.

IIt's 83 and heat index is.93. Girls are really enjoying it. I saw two little babies laying in the shade with ears wiggIng.Those babies are so cute.

Filled the water tank and watered the plants. I.couldn't find my.phone- had it on the bed earlier so unmade the bed - no phone. Looked under the Ned and found things I had lost. I keep eyedrops on the bedside table - Max knocks them off. No phone. Looked everywhere and finally located it on the table by the lounge. I had forgotten I had sat there a while. Not a good start to the day. Haven't heard the alarm go off so not sure it is working. No way to test it by myself. Time to watch The Waltons. Back later.

    Good afternoon all.

GG I think you ask about the hot tub being a salt water tub. The initial setup takes a bit longer because you only add salt to the water and let it do its thing, so to speak. How I understand it is that the salt naturally generates, chlorine. So its all natural in the water & your not adding harsh chemicals. Its' very clean crystal clear soft water with absolutely no smell. I really appreciate that part of it. And very minimal maintenance, because the salt it doing it all. And its gentle on your skin because it doesn't have chemicals.

Lorita you ask about Pup Cups. They are just small cups of whipped cream. So many people take their dogs with them places, its just a treat for the dog. We usually let Madison had about 1/3 of her Pu[ Cup at a time, but of course she'd like the entire thing.

Only 100 so honestly it doesn't feel too bad. Tomorrow it will be a different story. Yesterday DH had an eye appointment. We've known for several yrs he needs to have a vitrectomy, but he doesn't want it. We've seen a specialist who painted a picture for him and our eye dr has painted the same picture. But yesterday he was rather pushy about getting it scheduled sooner rather than later. We tried to discuss the anesthesia issues but his words were "I think its worth the risk." DH didn't like hearing that. He said he knows too many whom are affected by anesthesia & until I was satisfied we won't schedule it. And he's right. The hang up is with the surgeon he says "you will discuss anesthesia on the day of the procedure & not before" and I don't like that. We're going to have another appointment with the surgeon and see how we can work together to discuss the anesthesia prior to the day. They very much know DH has dementia, but they are concerned about vision in the one eye. I totally get it. But they aren't taking a full picture of the patient, or at lease to us it doesn't seem like they are. DH was upset all evening over this. Last night he was restless all night and even had a terrible nightmare that he didn't recognize me. I don't like him being that scared. Ugh.

Not sure what to do for dinner. I'd better go stand in the kitchen and figure it out.

    Let's be safe everyone.

Eaglemom, IMHO I believe the anesthesiologist is as important as the surgeon and in my son's case even more. My son was born with a heart defect and had 7 surgeries before the age of 8. He suffered a stroke during his first surgery and ever after I always met with the anesthesiologist at least a day or two in advance and I requested they speak directly with me just like the surgeon on how they felt it went afterwards. Stand your ground - don't let them bully you - you and your husband know your concerns are real. Hope it gives you some peace in making the decision.

Iris - I hope your trip continues to be great!

HB - it sounds like you had a day yesterday. I hope today was better - and that your good weather held.

Lorita - I hate it when I misplace stuff like that. It doesn't happen often, but it's so irritating when it does.

I bet those babies were cute.

eaglemom - that's really interesting about the salt for the hot tub. I think about hotels where I've stayed that have hot tubs (that I occasionally use). I wonder if any of them use salt.

I'm with Goodlife on the anesthesiologist - stand your ground. I know it can be hard. I was in a similar place twice - once when I was caring for my dad, and then again when I was caring for my sister.

Over in the PNW - gorgeous weather today. High 70s, good air quality (31). I'll take it.

One of my SF Bay Area friends is going to come up and stay with us for a couple of days, so we got that all mapped out. I always like seeing her.

I talked to Peggy's best friend from kindergarten today (part of Team Peggy) - she's good. I'm always glad to hear that. It was nice to catch up with her. Judging from things she's said, I think she doesn't live too terribly far from Iris.

Gym was good - lots of back exercises today: seated rows, lat pulls, and dead lifts. And because I was so good, we did a bonus earthquake bar. Then he added about 10 extra pounds - and I eked out the extra two sets.

Good morning. Another stunning day here. Sunny, warm, low humidity and good AQI.

Lorita— LOL, at the typo/autocorrect. I was wondering who this Ned was hanging out in your boudoir. I'm glad you found it. The main use of mom's landline is to locate her cell phone. Bestie kept her late DH's phone active for the same.

Judith— That's a lot of chasing around. Was the class/discussion on top of all that?

Goodlife— That must've been a stressful time with your son. You make a good point about speaking to anesthesiology.

Eaglemom— Nearly all the new pools here are salt-water installations. The odor associated with "chlorine" is actually a reaction to sweat and urine. If folks rinsed off and used the toilet instead of the pool, most wouldn't notice a smell.

Ugh with the eye surgeon. Do you live in a place where it's possible to find someone easier to work with? "People who get it" was a common topic at my IRL support group meetings— members shared the names of barbers, doctors, dentists and even restaurants that could accommodate the needs of PWD.

How critical is the procedure? Dad had a vitrectomy after his initial detachment procedure failed. He was probably early-to midstage at that point. As I recall he was given a local of some kind and sedation rather than general anesthesia. Sometimes, depending on the complexity and patient just a local is used. (Yikes!) We didn't see any progression in his cognition. (Mom had a mini-sling bladder procedure with propofol and did really well; I shared my concerns with her ENT when she had a lipoma near her ear removed and he did reconsider the standard sedation and did a local only on the day of)

That said, the recovery after vitrectomy was more challenging. Dad had to keep his head down for days which he found uncomfortable. The procedure was considered successful because it did restore the ability to see light and movement in the damaged eye. Not sure it was worth what my parents went through to make it happen. (They traveled 300 miles to Miami to see someone highly regarded and had to hang around for several days after)

Good luck to you both whatever you decide.

Gothic G— Yes, the babies were cute. I guess they're officially toddlers now as they're more or less biped half the time. They still walk like drunks. The girl looks just like my bestie (think Lucy Van Pelt) and is clearly firing on all cylinders— obviously bright. Her brother looks like a Renaissance cherub and is laid back, sweet and charming. Since the weather was nice, we braved the playground— a first for mom-mom. They had a blast on the swings and the outdoor percussion instruments. Then it was home, snack, some play and nap time. I left around 4 to beat the worst of rush hour on the turnpike, got home at 5:15, made a couple of BLTs, looked at DH and said, "I could go to bed right now". Babies are hard work. I used to laugh at bestie falling asleep in her recliner until midnight after they leave; I get it now.

Off to catch up on some laundry I put off the last couple of days. I bought a new mattress topper at Costco and am anxious to give it a go.
