Congrats GG on the completion of the book. What a loving and wonderful tribute. I think only taking you two years is great, it shows your dedication to the project.

Carl I think Cowboy needs to meet up with a headstrong woman whom will put him in his place. His new name needs to be Creepy Cowboy! He just has no boundaries or filters.

Ron did they get your air conditioning fixed?

Lorita is there a Dodge or Jeep that you'd like to drive? Can you look on line and see what's available? Even though yours's in the shop, there is nothing wrong with looking.

Lorita….Specifically car. We have everything with USAA as do the children and grandchildren. Never had the slightest problem. I asked based on Charles' military service.

Iris…cattle are an outstanding investment right now so my interest is mainly money. I am seriously fearful of equities right now so the pressure is on.

Judith I have AFR American Farmers and Ranchers, vehicles and farm.

Just talked with the insurance adjuster and claim for over $3600 approved.I have a thousand dollar deductible. The dealership should order wiring from Denver when they see a copy of the check. Adjuster is e-mailing them a copy. Probably will take four business days and then one or two days to put back together. They won't bend on using the tape laced with hot peppers. So, another week at least.

Jidith, are your thinking about leasing land and buying cattle? You also need to think about buying hay, feed and minerals plus creep feed for the calves, creep feeders and bunk feeders for the cows. Some people feed pellets or cubes on the ground but, to me,that is wasteful with cows walking on them. Haven't checked cattle prices since I won't sell Billy. Lots of things to consider. Think also about vet bills-higher than our medical bills. I imagine feed and.big bales are much.higher now than before I sold, probably close to.$90-100 a big bale. Years ago we had to pay $70 a bale trucked in from Guymon. If you lease 300 acres, maybe some.if it could be baled. Less than buying bales but expensive anyway considering spraying and fertilizing.

Lorita…thank you…more things are being taken into consideration than I could imagine. I am working with several large ranchers on this venture. It boils down to ROI and right now equities do not look good.

I think you would be surprised at the current prices and the current deductions. U.S. retail beef prices have surged roughly 65% to 77% since 2020.

Since Dick died I have needed to learn about ROI, passive depreciation, LLCs, REvocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Patnerships,Holding Companies and more. The education has come with kicking and screaming but as head of the family I have had no choice.

Morning, pretty morning for an hour or so. The weatherman says over 100 for st least the next ten days and no rain. Judith, if you're really interested in dealing with cattle there are two shows on tv you might want to watch both on OETA, channel 11 here. Market to Market and Sunup. Both on early Saturday mornings. Sumup was on the Osage Nation Ranch in cemtral.Osage County. It's 2400 acres and runs around 2400 head. They were loading out a few hundred yearilngs. They said ground beef is now about $9. A pound. Glad I'm a vegetarian.

Girls are still out getting a little grass, then to the pond.. Yesterday they were standing in the water and swimming. Just their swimming pool. I need to.go out and.cut whatever that is growing under the diesel tank before it gets.hotter. Already topped off the water tank and watered caladiums. Stay cool.

Back again. I went out and.cut down a couple.of little elms trying to grow under the diesel tank,then cut back a few more things in the back yard. Wasn't out there more than ten or fifteen minutes and had to.get back in. It creeps up, or jumps, on you before you know it. How in the world do people work out in this all day? Guess I'm what Charles would call 'a panty waist'! I did get some Geritol. Remember that stuff? Maybe that will help.

Iris…one major thing I did was change a hunk of my stocks to bonds. Nest was opening Transer on Death accounts that I will gift into. Each grandchild will have one and be responsible for decisiions. All actions will be made through me. My goal is for the grands to learn about "money management" and will keep us in contac with each other.

Iris…no horses for me. There will be a foreman.

Lorita…I know you are a vegetarion but you raised cattle for slaughter.You are still making an income from that.How does that work.

Always said and thought the calves or yearlings were replacements. We never sold cows except once to a nearby rancher for him to keep. True, I do lease to a rancher but I try to close my mind to whatever…better than to let the land layout and I Still get to see the girls. He sprays and fertilizer and cares for the land and I get a little return. Wish I was even ten years younger so I could still do what we used to with the girls. I like cattle and caring for them. I did for six years with Mike feeding hay but that's in the past. Time does not stand still.

We sold spring calves usually in January. The herd stayed about the same size. I know some probably went to feedlots, which I hate, but also felt a lot went to other ranchers as replacements. We would sometimes keep replacements. Sales are where ranchers go to buy cattle for themselves, too.

Good hot afternoon all.

My Bff is out of town for the weekend. They have what we call a gentleman's farm. It's 3 blocks from our house but most of the lots are 3 or 4 acres, all in the city, per say. I was over watering for her this morning & her two ponies (Gin & Tonic) didn't come to the fence to see me, which was odd. They were quite happy hanging by the barn. After I finished the watering I called them and they frankly could have cared less about me. So out I go to check on them. They were quite happy - in the shade with a mister every so often coming on them. They looked at me like I'd disturbed the best naps they've ever had!

I just wanted to check on everyone before getting our dinner started. Ugh, Let's be safe everyone.

Judith, I watched your video about the Sia Eagle Center, it was very informative. When I was in Akaska I visited a bird rescue center for eagles, owls and hawks, but they were not ceremonial.

I was told that goat meat is the most eaten meat in the world. This was from the goat farm that my travel group visited in April. I had it once, in Kenya. It was tasty.

GG, is the book you are referencing your blog? Can you repost the link or the address?

I went to a rock painting activity this morning. It was fun. I think this will be my new hobby, when I get a chance to stay home.

Code talkers were heroes. Radio operator is one of the most dangerous jobs in an infantry unit, because the enemy are eager to shoot the man with the radio.

Iris, funny you mentioned rock painting. I had a good friend, Daisy, who painted rocks. I have one she painted but with our heat and humidity It is faded. She also painted bars of soap with pretty scenes and beautiful lamp shades. I can't draw a straight line.

It can be a sad business, Judith, if you let yourself think about it. That's why we never sold cows because we got too attached them. I have a friend who runs catt!e and he feels the same way. He had a cow who was old and his wife said the cow needed to go to town. He told her the cow was born on his place, had lots of good calves and she wasn't going anywhere.

About ready to call it a day so will say good night. Fall is 36 days away, I think.

About the Navajo Code Talkers … I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I'd never heard of the Code Talkers until I saw an episode of the X-Files back in the '90s. It was one of those times where I wondered yet again why we don't learn about things like this in high school - the Code Talkers, not the X-Files.

Lorita and Judith - I could never buy and sell cows. I'd be one of the ones who gets too attached to them.

Lorita - Funny that you're counting the days until fall. Last night we had dinner with some friends and everyone was lamenting how early the sun is going down now. Our summers are so short, we relish these long days. But now, the sun is coming up after 6am and going down by around 8:15 or so. We're heading for our spiral. 😄

Iris - it's still a blog, not a book, although it's got a fairly high word count. Probably ~130,000 words total, including the "deep dives". Tomorrow my friend from the Bay Area arrives. I think I'm ready for her. We bustled around the house all day getting things in order. She'll be here until around mid-day on Thursday, so I'm planning on getting nothing done this week. 🙂 We'll hang out, watch movies, and play board games.

GG, your writing is very readable. You blog is inviting, not at all scary or off-putting for the inexperienced caregiver or family member. I made note of the site so I can return to read when I have more time.

The way history is taught in schools is so boring. I've learned so much on my tours. We learn in depth what really happened at each site. If I had young children, I would supplement their learning with field trips around the country, if I didn't home-school them entirely.

Your friend's visit sounds like you two will have a great time. What board games do you like? I haven't played a board game in a long while; I like Uno, that's a card game. On our bus trips we sometimes play Bingo for prizes, also trivia games about the places we are visiting.

Lorita, I never could draw, all through school. But in the 90's I learned about tole painting, which is basically making strokes. I discovered I could actually paint something that looked like something! So I'm looking forward to rock painting. It's actually a real hobby for adults, not just for kids. This activity was at the library.

Tomorrow I'm going up to meet up with a couple of the women from my Italy trip for dinner.

Lorita, I forgot to mention that I took my car in for an oil change and routine maintenance. The service man said it's eight years old, time to change the transmission fluid. I looked online, the time for transmission fluid change is between 30,000 to 50,000 miles, my car has fewer than 19,000 miles. But I agreed to it anyway. This cost $400. I think I'm going to start taking it to my mechanic friend, he works on older cars.

Good morning

I’m having a blast on Lake of the Ozarks with my family. Have enough fish for a good fish fry today, but I’m about to go add to it.

I had a memorable fishing incident yesterday. I started out fishing with a cane pole off of our dock, not even getting a nibble. I switched to the rod and reel, but since a worm was still on the pole, I left it in the water. My second cast with the rod and reel I hooked a fish and the cork on the pole went down at the same time. They are to small, but it was a experience bringing in two at the same time.

Everyone can draw…everyone can paint. We unfortunately learn about first grade that we are not talented. If you came to my house we would all paint/draw together using the hand we do not write with. We would only have red/yellow and blue colors. We would each have a large piece of paper and told to fill up the whole page.

Not me, Judith. Why do you paint with your less dominant hand. If I did that, it could be my excuse.

Bryon and T just left. They cut everything short and away from the house. Also cleared everything out of the north fence. There was a huge Bradford pear and another half that big plus two elms. I might have saved them but one was next to the double gate and the other had grown through the fence. There are two others plus the one I will save. It's really growing. Maybe next spring I can find a maple to transplant.

Some girls spent the morning in the pond, others grazing and now some have gone to the barn. There are seven little babies with their babysitter under the big Hackberry. North breeze and we actually had a few clouds earlier.

Shirley, how are things in South Carolina? Still enjoying that pretty car?

Bryon's 17 year old son bought a used pickup and it quit running and is turn apart while they try to find what's wrong. Had it one month and has been in the shop three weeks. So he is paying the high shop bill plus payments.

The main thing I recall about "art" class in elementary school is being rebuked for inability to color within the lines. I guess they were teaching manual dexterity, not art.
