Good morning
When I went to see mom yesterday afternoon two sets of carolers came. The residents seemed to really enjoy that and many of them sang along. I enjoyed it too. The one group then went around and hugged or just talked a bit with the residents. It seemed to really make them happy the way the residents sang with them and enjoyed it . The children in one family had made cards and they handed them out. That same family at the end were talking with the resident with dementia who plays the piano. The resident then played 2 or 3 songs. Then a couple of their children who were young played a song each. I really enjoyed it.

Good morning. Brrrr, it's cold here this morning. 6F when I woke up.
Eaglemom— We'll being doing a prime rib at Chez Buzz as well. I kind of regret not opting for the gorgeous crown roast of pork I saw yesterday. But beef begets Yorkshire pudding which is a real treat.
Lorita— I wonder if the failure of your meringue was the result of unsettled weather. It's hard to get a nice meringue in damp weather. DH seldom gets his birthday wish— a chocolate pie— as he has a mid-March birthday on which it's rainy as often as not. He has to settle for it on some random day when the sun is shining.
Jerilynn— A spiral ham on the grill? That sounds next level amazing. Especially over charcoal.
Mint— I found musical activities to be dad's favorite in the MCF. Little kids are often a hit, too. When MIL was very ill, my DS was about 4 and would hang in her SNF on visits with DH for hours at a time. Weird kid— he loved anything with wheels which included walkers, rollators and wheelchairs— and would chat with their owners about them. He was quite popular.

Good news! Found this online. "Lower Makefield police confirmed Sunday night a 20-year-old man with autism missing for five days was found alive.
A couple driving along Big Oak Road around 8:30 p.m. spotted Wayne Rasheed Morris hours Lower Makefield Township Police, Chief Ken Coluzzi said. The couple called police and followed Morris until officers arrived, the chief said. Morris was taken to a local hospital where he is being medically evaluated, Coluzzi added. Police have no information immediately on where Morris had been since he disappeared.
Morris, who has a form of autism spectrum disorder, went missing from his family’s home in the Cornerstone development off Township Line Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Coluzzi said."

Judith, you asked if you are the only one here who doesn't cook. Well, I wouldn't cook if I didn't have to! My hubby expects to get fed at least once a day - lol. He fends for himself for breakfast and lunch. And when my kids come over, they get a nice meal. I don't love cooking, but here it is a necessity.

Good morning………..
Such wonderful news about the young man being found. I hadn't seen it on the news yet.
Funny story about DH and my cooking. I'm a pretty good cook and baker. But, like many of you, after so many years I'm growing a little tired of cooking. As I was mashing potatoes one evening I casually mentioned to DH something to the effect he might be growing tired of my cooking. He immediately responded with "oh no you don't. Your tenured in this position. You keep adding more good food in." So I'm tenured in so I shall keep cooking!!!
Busy day a head here. Be safe everyone.

Almost good afternoon to you all!
I've been up and cleaning and re-working leftovers and making more food to take to BIL in Scottsboro tomorrow. Wrapping up Christmas cookies, brownies and other treats for the Huntland kids tomorrow. Then, all I have left to do is go on the "Pa and Jeri's Santa" deliveries. LOL
Yesterday was fun. Good food, kids, grands and the girlfriend of my "ex" SIL. I really liked her. She's a dentist. Everyone seemed to have a good time, girlfriend was right at home but yet polite and not overly "gushy". It went well. They're all coming for leftover turkey sandwiches later, then back home to Mississippi.
Such good news that the young man with autism was found safe. And what good Samaritans to follow him until help could arrive. That's a great Christmas story.
DH has been to Tullahoma for his allergy shot. I had a couple blissfully quiet, peaceful hours of alone time. Which I needed. I love to have folks over, but after so many days of rushing, fussing over and trying to be sure everyone is tended to - I need a little quiet time to reflect, regroup and get ready to go again. I guess that's true for most people. LOL
OK, back to the kitchen for me. DH has come in from outside working on the side by side and is ready for some lunch. BBL
Stay safe, warm and healthy!

Home for christmas it will be nice to spend the holiday with my family before I go back to my new home at the VA.

Aftermoon, cloudy and chilly here. Took the gift for our mail carrier down, then had a call from Logan. Somehow I had forgotten that card so took it down. Ordered from WM for a few things -decided I might make soup. With WM plus you get one free express delivery before 12-31.
Glad the young man was found safe. Those people were really good samaritans.
JeriLynn, nice you had a couple of quiet hours. You need to slow down a.bit. How are the two, new babies? Got a letter from my LTCI- premiums have gone up which is not surprising. I have had it for years and gives me a feeling of security. They also pay for in-home care. Hope I never use it.
Talked to a friend this morning who just had a cataract extraction. She said it didn't take long and was painless. Like all of you have said - colors are brighter and she sees better. Maybe by spring I can do this. I used to work with an Ophthalmologist store at the VA who did hundreds of extractions but I know it has improved so much since then..
Groceries will be here in an hour. Can hardly believe how convenient it is .

That's great! My son is looking forward to spending a couple of days at our house too.

here…
I have now gotten 3 deliveries from Walmart since Friday. None for me. I tracked down todays delivery. It was a gift she had been waiting for for her grandaughter so she was most appreciative for my tracking her down.
1 -
My things were delivered within 45 minutes. Would have been a bit earlier if the girl's GPS hadn't let her pass the turn off. She said this was the best way She said the store was awful, people pushing and so crowded. Hope Darwin got there before the crowds. This is the only WM within about 30 miles.
Judith, I have never had any problems with the deliveries, nothing left out and perfect vegetables, even greenish bananas and still frozen ice cream or sherbet. Wish Darwin could take advantage of it. I did tell his daughter.
So very nice of you to track down the lady waiting for the delivery. I know she did appreciate it.

Sorry everyone, I couldn't resist sharing Madison's picture with you. I gave her a bath this morning and put her Christmas bow in. As you can tell, she thinks she's pretty hot stuff!!

Eagle, Madison is beautiful!! She knows she is dressed up and pretty. Makes me want another Shih Tzu. Our Barclee was.blond and white. We lost him last year.

I have a question Gor those of you who shop for clothing in department stores or boutiques . I haven't done that in s very long time. Only shop on QVC. Their clothing has increased in price at least 40% but they say in stores what they sell for their price would be three times higher in stores. Jeans on QVC range from $50 up to 75 but in stores may be up to $200. Just wondering.
0 -
When I compare items on QVC to Amazon the prices are pretty much the same. I have never found a bargain on HSN or QVC!
I do order from Women Within…lots of knits which is all that I wear. I usually wear black pants which are under 10$ and a bright top or gray/white. ..never a print. I do like the knit tops from LLbean. Really lovely cotton.
I have one pair of earrings, one good looking necklace and one nice bracelet. Katheryn Hepburn always wore the same clothes and Donna Karan and vera Wang are always in black so I delude myself into thinking I am right in style.
1 -
Madison is gorgeous! And you, Jo, are in style.
There is fashion and there is style. Fashion is wearing what the crowd wears, and style is wearing what looks good on YOU.
1 -
I meant to say Judith, you are in style.
I went around in navy suits and tasteful ties for many years, but now that I am retired I find I wear two outfits. Summer finds me in khaki pants, long sleeved white shirts, and a big white Panama to keep the sun off my old skin. In winter, I wear jeans and flannel shirts and/or sweaters, usually cable knit crew neck, with a black wool ivy cap. Boring, I guess, but a man my age would look ridiculous dressed in the stuff seen in GQ.
I don't know much about women's clothes. I'm still trying to get my wife to wear warm clothing, but she loves the stuff she wore all summer so she's cold all the time.
I paid about $18 each for the flannel shirts I bought on sale at JC Penney the other day, if that tells you anything.

Thanks. I wear a lot of black. too, and gray , kind.of good with my silver hair. Yellow used to.be my.favorite color but not good with my hair now. I love light greenish gray but it makes me look green. I love Burgundy and wine. I think the colors we can wear and like changes.
I also like woman Within and Blair. I like denim and it is so much better than it user to be. But, fleece tops, flannel lined pants and thermals in the winter. Of course my Trappers hat I have worn for years. When we were feeding in all kinds of weather the more you could get on, the better. I miss feeding the girls and being with them a lot.I love Denim & Co. , have worn those clothes for 30 years.

Boyd, Karen's husband just did a group text. She passed away seven years ago today. Doesn't seem that long. We grew up together. Went to work at the VA Hospital the same day. She was almost 18 and I was barely 19. She and Carol.were just like sisters.

The lady across the street (Diana) brought us a Christmas gift today. It was a box of Ho Hos and a box of Ding Dongs, tied together with red ribbon, with a card reading "Ho Ho Ho from the ding dongs across the street." And the lady next door to her (Pam) brought us a dozen chocolate chip cookies, still warm from the oven. Pam repeated an earlier offer to help us if we needed it. I have never had better neighbors than I have now.

Carl, You all do have sweet neighbors.
0 -
Carl, I had a chuckle out of your "ding-dong" neighbors! I like what you said about style and fashion.
Lorita, $200 for a pair of jeans! No! I once paid $45 at Kohl's, but I think it was for my birthday. Usually I buy from the clearance rack or when there is a good sale. And lately, since the pandemic, I have been buying clothes from Aldi's. Not fashionable, but serviceable.
My almost 94 year old neighbor had a stroke yesterday. She is now at the hospital. She can barely speak, and has weakness. I know she won't be coming back to her home. Her birthday is Christmas Day. I hope to be able to visit her at the hospital on that day.
Iris

You are a good friend, Iris. Christmas in hospital is bad enough, maybe a visit will make it a little better.

Good morning
Carl hope you, DW&DS have a peaceful holiday. Nice neighbors are a blessing.
Lorita Im glad you have learned how to get your groceries delivered. That is a great service for those who need it.
Iris I hope things work out for you to go visit your neighbor. Good for you and her.

Good morning all. It's snowing here, so I'll need to give DS a lift to work. His car is ghastly in the snow. DH was anxious about him going in, but it's only an inch. I need to go out later anyway.
Jerilynn— I hope you get a chance to sleep in on Thursday as you've been going non-stop.
It's funny, the local news isn't covering the missing man story as closely as I would have expected. Perhaps it's because local law enforcement was unable to find him. They had a lot of volunteers participating in the search. Often people with ASD have a special interest that draws them to elope, and I wondered if that was a factor in this. The area he was in has a lot of moving parts. It's quite well populated and there's a lot of shopping in the area as well as tracts of woods/ponds (always a risk with ASD) as well as the intersection of US1 and US295 and a railroad line. If he'd gotten in a car or on a box car, he could have been anywhere.
Eaglemom— Madison is adorable and looks ready to celebrate.
Iris— I am sorry to hear of your friend's stroke. I hope your visit brightens her birthday.
Carl— Your neighbors are a hoot. Your take on style vs fashion is spot-on IMO. That said, I am sure you could rock GQ if you wanted.
Lorita— Your friends at QVC are lying to you. I tend to live in jeans that come from either Lands End or Levi's. The former retail around $90 but there's almost always some sort of deal online or in the store. Currently you'd pay $50ish. Same with Levi's at Kohl's, the retail around $60-70 but are typically really about $35-40. Levi's premium iconic Wedgie and 501s are $98 and you're less likely to catch a sale on these. I mean, you could spend $200+ on premium denim but Denim & Co. is not that level. FWIW, the folks who do spend big bucks on fancy denim say it best to only launder their jeans every 3-4 months. That alone doesn't appeal to me.

We did the Holiday drive-through light show last night. We picked mom up and had dinner at a little Italian restaurant and then did the show. It's fine, but certainly not worth the cost— $60/car. DH loves it, so we indulge him. Mom was uncharacteristically quiet last night both in the car and the restaurant. I wonder if she's feeling a little sorry for herself. She feels like a burden but right now she needs a lot of support and her village is small. That said, my niece has agreed to take her to the swallow study on Friday. I'll do the cat on Thursday.
The cat seems to be doing pretty well. I know they can be inscrutable in terms of illness/pain, but she's pretty much her old self. I hope the news on Thursday is better.HB

Good Morning,
I was up at 3 am to bake off the chicken and dressing and corn casserole. That finishes up cooking for BIL in Scottsboro. So, we are off now to Huntland to see one greatgrand and her almost stepdaughter. Then on to Scottsboro. Then home to bake sugar cookies and brownies for one family tomorrow. The rest is already dressed up in cookie tins. So, easy peasy day.
I hope each of you has a good day. Be safe, stay warm, careful driving in the snow, and be blessed. I'll BBL
