Carl, several members of my family have or had glaucoma; I hope your laser treatment takes care of your glaucoma.

Ron, I usually cook my sweet potatoes in my microwave, but I do remember how they smelled when baked in the oven.

Zetta, my phone's auto correct changes words all the time, it can be quite amusing, but also annoying.

I took my ballot to the vote center today. I'm glad that's over with for a few months. We had 62 candidates for governor, I voted for one candidate.

Iris I would worry about the leaching if I were not in a desert. Being in the desert our water table is more than a 100ft below the surface. But regardless now everything goes to the hazmat station.

Good morning. It's lovely here this morning. Still cool with a cloudless sky and light breeze.

Iris— Costco had a grinder until a couple years ago. They took it out because people were putting random stuff in it like hot dogs from the snack bar. Other people— it's why we can't have nice things. FWIW, the coffee drinkers in my life are either perfectionists, grinding and even roasting their beans, or fine with instant. I rarely drink coffee hot, but have enjoyed iced coffee since I was little. It's a Boston thing.

I'm with you on finding autocorrect amusing. For some reason the texts between my niece and I tend to be full of them much to my amusement.

Zetta— I hope your laptop is behaving. I find a cleaning/restart can sometimes exorcize the demons in a keyboard. Yesterday mine was doing something new on this site; as I typed the words they were going in reverse order— like spelled backwards. So weird.

Lorita— I remember Yuban. It was available in PA and also in New England. In the old days it was considered a premium brand because of its 100% Columbian sourcing.

I hope you're able to find a sweet natured and well mannered adult female to be a companion for you and Stormy.

Gothic G— It's great that MIL is settling in. That's always such a relief.

I tend to get my menu suggestions via the NYT Cooking section/site. Beautifully styled photography gets me every time. Most of the recipes have been good and a few have entered the rotation.

    _____________________________________________________________________

I spent the afternoon with mom again yesterday. She got a haircut, then we did pedis (I got OPI Bubblebunny— I don't care for it) Then she wanted ice cream (pistachio) from the guy who makes it on site. We rounded out the day at the endo's appointment where he POC's battery died/or overheated (she blocks the vents by accident at times it was fine in the car and they had tank O2) and her BP was enough to alarm the nurses. Turns out she had only toast and a cup of tea aside from her ice cream. I got her home and had her drink a quart of water which got her BP back into normal range.

It's pizza night here, so I need to get my dough started.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

Morning, good thing the Directv guy is coming today. Now, this morning the only channel I can get on the bedroom tv is QVC! Plus, two of my local Channels are unavailable because their contracts have expired. Now that channel is going off and on just like it does when it rains.

Carl, did that complex of storms yesterday morning reach you? Looked like it was headed your way.

Hope everyone is well this morning and can have a really good day.

    Good morning.

    Goodlife, then you're safe!

    I remember Yuban.

The state of California is thinking of introducing grizzly bears. The grizzly bear is our state mascot, although there have been none here for decades. We have black bears. These new grizzly bears would come from the group that live around Yellowstone National Park. I don't think it's a good idea. We already have too much wildlife, IMHO.

This year is the Centennial for Route 66. I wonder if there will be celebrations along the route? I feel like taking a road trip.

Today is National Chicken Salad Day. I like chicken salad.

    Good afternoon.

National Chicken Salad Day. I could do that, but DH would be a hard no. I might be like HB and make pizza. I'm feeling a veggie pizza might hit the spot for me and of course DH will have to have meat on his.

I need to get busy here. We had appointments this morning until after lunch and I've not accomplished much.

    Let's be safe everyone.

Iris, for sure on the Route 66 centennial.. Tulsa is making a big to-do about it. I think Oklahoma had more miles of the Mother Road than any State. One couple drove their 1926 car the whole road from Chicago to California. Lots of all kinds of things to celebrate. Remember the tv show?

Tried to call Kate but now you have to text her. I need to go get feed for Billy and meds for Stormy in a couple of days. The shelter is on the way, about a mile from the vet clinic. May have to find another breed until I can find a Pyrenees.

Shirley, wish I was nearer your area. I do wish the ten month old Mike to!d me about had been a female. Just worried an almost grown male would not have worked.

I now have two working tvs! One problem is a maple tree that had limbs obscuring reception. He had to cut two limbs and reprogram one tv.

Iris - Nope, my mom-in-law refuses to do any activities. But this is not new behavior. She didn't do any activities when she was in independent living either.

I do remember the grinders at grocery stores! I loved walking by the coffee aisle just so I could smell the coffee beans.

That's a lot of candidates for governor! One thing I don't miss about California elections is all the propositions. Pages of them. In WA state our ballots are 1 to 2 pages long, not 6 pages long. When I first started voting in WA, I wondered if I'd gotten the whole ballot, it was so thin. 😄

How long have you lived in CA?

Lorita - I remember Yuban coffee. My parents didn't drink it …. I don't remember what they drank, but I remember seeing Yuban in the stores. Apparently you can get it at Target.

I'm glad you have working TVs now!

HB - homemade pizza, including the dough. Sounds quite yummy.

I was looking at nail polishes yesterday online. I found three that I could be happy wearing, but I bet no one else here would wear. This one, this one, and this one. That said, I really like OPI as a brand.

The weather has been just fantastic in Charleston. It's been so nice spending time outside.

We got a lot of stuff done before we picked up my mom-in-law for lunch. We have a storage area for her, and there were some easy things we could drop off at Goodwill - we just ran out of time last time we were here.

Then out to Folly Beach for lunch at The Lost Dog. Definitely a favorite place.

Think I'll pass on National Chicken Salad Day. 🙂

    Good afternoon Rockers.

Lorita . No, I did not join a exercise class. We were very lucky in Arizona, to find one we felt comfortable in. It went at our pace and the class was small. We live in a nice area now, with a nice walk to the lake. It's a mile round trip. My DD and SIL, along with their dog. Fiona, have been doing it daily for a week. I plan on joining them with Molly, but we will only go half way, i don't walk as fast as they do and I don't want to hold them up. Yes I do remember Yuban, coffee and if I remembe right it was in a yellow container.

When I adopted Molly, from the human society, I asked for a female about a year old and quiet. Well I got a young female and she was not quiet. I realized after I got her that chiuachas are not quiet dogs. You will love whatever you ❤️ get. It's nice that Stormy is eating.

iris. Your so right correcting is annoying. I started this with a good afternoon I probably won't finish this till evenevening. After I do all their correcting. If yoyou see a doubdouble Word it is one that i did not fix. I also love chicken salad, my daughter made some yesterday, we will finish it up tonight.

HB. Thanks for the cleaning/restant info I will have my DD help me with it tonight. At least mine has not started spelling backwards yet. That is weird.

GG. I'm glad to hear your MIL has settled in nicely and is enjoying her new apartment. Are you getting a lot of wind? It's been pretty windy here.

NannyG55. I see you have change your name, good job it is something I have been thinking about doing. It's probably the same reason others have changed.

It's almost dinner and my DD, is fixing Ribs and they smell So good. Good night and Hugs to all.

GG, I don't wear nail.Polish now -:too much typing and caring for cattle.. When I was much younger I remember I was going to be in a piano recital and a few days before it I was wearing.blue nail polish and my teacher told me to be sure not to wear it at the recital. I think the purple polish is pretty.

Zetta, you are right-'the can wss yellow!! I get a lot of double Bs. It takes me as long to correct as it does to type my post. I think this tablet has a mind of its own - different than mine..

NBA finals begin tonight: Knicks vs Spurs. Lorita and Judith, sorry the Thunder didn't make the finals this year. The Spurs are very strong and the Knicks are no slouches. I WANT the Knicks to win, but I THINK the Spurs will win (talking about the championship, not just tonight's game). On SportsCenter a commentator said that everyone thinks the western conference winner will be the champions. However, "the Knicks are locked and loaded and deeper than the Pacific Ocean." I like that very descriptive quote.

GG, I like the nail polish colors but my favorite is a simple French manicure. I also like Ballet Slippers (said to be a Queen Elizabeth favorite) and a medium pink OPI polish color. Going natural at the moment… I liked getting my nails done every 3 weeks or so but eventually it was pretty hard on my nails and I had 2 break so am taking a break from salon manicures for…who knows how long???

I had a good day today. Class of '73 "girls" - 10 of us - had a get together with potluck. A good time was had by all. I went to a small school. We had 48 graduates in my class; this year's class is 38.

Almost time for basketball. I will ride my stationery bike in front of the tv for at least 30", probably longer. Then will go to Fit for Life at the library followed by the gym tomorrow.

The "Birthplace of Route 66 Festival" will be in Springfield MO on August 7-8. There will be car shows, concerts, and general festivities. There was a centennial kickoff festival a month ago with concerts by Little Big Town, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and others. We don't know yet who will perform at the August celebration.

Springfield is where Route 66 was originally planned in 1926, and we have a festival every summer. It started as a neighborhood promotion and soon grew to be a big deal. I expect the centennial will be an even bigger deal.

SL is a satellite-based (not cable) internet service owned, I think, by Elon Musk. It is available over much of the world, especially in the USA. My car seems to have a connection, but I haven't bothered to figure out how to use it. I use my car to run around town, not to web surf.

I vaguely remember Musk letting Russia and Ukraine use it sometimes and sometimes not, depending on how the war was going and his whim.

Good morning. Another hot and cloudless day on tap for Buzzville. Much as I am enjoying this spate of good-hair-days and happy knees, we do need some rain.

Iris— What's the why behind introducing grizzlies into the state? Are they the natural predator of some other animal that's out-of-control?

Not a fan of chicken salad. I'm down for tuna, egg and even turkey but will pass on ham and chicken salad. Mom supposedly makes a lovely Waldorf salad version with grapes, celery and walnuts— it's a hard pass from me. She only makes it so she can serve it in this weird Victorian platter that had been her mom's. It's shaped to look like lettuce leaves and contains life-sized chicks standing in the bowl. It's creepy.

Eaglemom— The potluck sounds like a blast. Your school was so small your classmates must've felt more like siblings. My son's high school marching band was 3 times the size of your graduating class. His scout troop was a little more than twice that size. I graduated with about 1200 kids 2 years after the district's single high school was split in half.

DH and DS each had a classic thin-crust pepperoni, but mine was a white pie with San Marzano chunks, sauteed spinach, sauteed cremini mushrooms and lots of garlic on a light crust made from imported "00" flour.

Gothic— I would have assumed you were an OPI Lincoln Park After Dark fan. Those purples look fun. I have a friend who loves purple and has done similar hues on her toes.

Lorita— Starlink may or may not be an improvement over what you're using now. One concern I would have, aside from Elon Musk, is congestion during high-use times of day. This piece describes the pros and cons.

Beth— I have also read that Ballet Slippers is the official "colour" for nail varnish for the late Queen. I also like Mademoiselle which is a tiny bit pinker.

Judith— I'm generally a one-coat sheer pink person, too. Currently I am loyal to Zoya's Naked Manicure Perfector in Pink. Zoya is Big 12-free; my nails sometimes react to polish which is a PITA. I can't leave most polish on my toes for more than a week without damage so I usually byob. But mostly I buy it because it has a ridge filler included.

Carl— The August celebrations sound like a blast. Will you be attending any car shows or concerts?

Ron— Enjoy your lunch out. Where are you guys headed this time?
    ____________________________________________________________________

Today is my first day at-home this week. I have some cleaning to get done and plan to actually cook dinner for a second night in a row. I'm thinking 3-cup chicken.

DS and I went to the uniform supplier for the nursing program. $377 later, he's pretty much fixed up except for socks.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

    Good morning.

Ron, enjoy your visit with Carl at the center and then enjoy lunch with your son and DIL.

GG, I just looked at a video of people strolling around Charleston, they look really relaxed and the city looks fresh! I've never been there, I'll have to add it to my list of places to visit.

Re: StarLink, I wonder how all those satellites stay in orbit without crashing down to earth.

HB, you mention your nail polish has a ridge filler. I didn't know something like that was available. All of my nails have ridges. The dermatologist told me the ridges are due to aging. All this time I have avoided polish because I thought the polish would accentuate the ridges. But you have told me there is a solution. Thanks very much!

Regarding: a reason why to introduce grizzly bears back to California. I had to chuckle at your question if Grizzlies are a natural predator of some other animal that's out of control. The only animal that's out of control in California is human! (LOL) There are just too many! But I don't think population control by Grizzlies is what the PTB are thinking.

Frankly, I don't know what they were thinking. I had to go back and reread the article. Apparently the environmentalists are concerned about protecting endangered species, and Grizzlies are threatened, because there are only 1900 Grizzlies in the lower 48. I think they think if they brig some Grizzlies to California, they can be protected better here. After all, they have successfully grown the flock of California condors from near extinction.

(Zetta: autocorrect changed condors to condoms—isn't that funny?)

At the same time, ranchers don't want another predator around to eat their sheep, goats and cattle, not to mention pets or people. This is a real threat, because in 2023 a 71 year old woman was killed and eaten by a black bear in her home in far northern California.

A bill to bring back Grizzlies was introduced by a California senator from San Pedro, which is far away from northern California and nowhere near ranches or wilderness. Why can't they do something about the traffic down here?

Morning Tick #4. I walked around in grass yesterday. No idea there was one until it itched. It was on my left lower side and a bit hard to get to. The say to use tweezers to be sure to get the head. Didn't work so used my nails which I usually do. Many years ago I found one on my head just as we were leaving work. Went back to the ER and a PA removed it. You all be happy if you don't have ticks in your area.

Not me who is interested in Star Link. It's a neighbor and I don't think it's for him. One main reason I would not want it is Elon Musk.. Will not give him or the guy who owns Amazon one penny, as if they need it.

Another thing to deal with. Let Stormy out last night and turned on one of the porch lights. Guess the breaker tripped because the porch light went out along with both in the sunroom and one in the bathroom. Still have one in the bath and two on the porch. But will call Jimmy next week. He is so busy it's very hard to get him. I have just about given up on getting power back to the barn. Seems good to have the LR tv back working but still staying in the bedroom, at least this morning.

Ron, you and Carl have fun today at the senior center. Enjoy your lunch with . family. I love Braums but the nearest one is 25 miles away. Mike tried to get a franchise for the little town where I shop but couldn't maybe because there is one about 12 miles from there. I love their Cappuccino Chunky Chocolate frozen yogurt. When I worked I would sometimes stop at one for a sausage biscuit on the way to work. Don't know if I ever mentioned it but Mike worked at their dairy when he was in vet college. Now I'm itchy because of the tick - power of suggestion I guess.

Good basketball game last night, Beth. Brunson is really a good player for the Knicks. Looks llke it will be a good series.

    @Iris L.

I bet the grizzlies would have a positive impact on traffic congestion. 😉

The Perfector+ Naked Manicure is the one with a ridge filler. It won't eradicate them, but it does make the nails look healthy and tended to.
