I have a new "job" at the fitness center; I'm deadheading the daylilies - there are probably 200 or 300 of them, all white (except for two???). I asked the mgr if I could deadhead them because that will make good material to put in my compost. He was delighted. He said, "Sure, now I don't have to do it!" ha ha

I'm going to surprise him, maybe, by weeding there today too. I truly love gardening.

Off to the fitness center soon to do cardio (did weights and cardio yesterday) and work in amongst the daylilies.

GG, I connected with a trainer and hope to start working with her week after next, schedules permitting.

Lorita, while hantavirus is unlikely, better safe than sorry.

    Enjoy your day, everyone!

Morning, thanks for the advice Iris and everyone. My doctor is on leave this week but I think/know his staff is there. I'm going to go to his office and talk to his nurses and if the phlebotomist is there maybe she will draw the blood and they can send it off. When he gets back Monday the results should be in soon after. He calls in every day when he's gone. If this doesn't work I will go to urgent care or health and wellness clinic.. ER is 30 miles away. No advice phone.number but I can talk with Diane and Jody, his nurses.

Iris, I was on an open porch but no mask or gloves. I think I remember inhaling when bent over sweeping up the droppings. I'm probably ok but want to.be sure.

Sounds like things are progressing, Ron. Happy for you.

The daylilies at the fitness center. This is on one side of the door. There are more on the other side of the door.

I tried but didn't get it done. They couldn't do the.blood draw at my doctor's office because no lab pickup when he is gone. Went to one urgent care and they don't do the test. Went to Health and Wellness - same thing. Did talk to urgent Care in the town where I worked and have been there.. They will do covid and flu test, write a script and then I have to go to Lab Corp for the test.

It had already begun to sprinkle when I left town. My.phone didn't get charged and we are due for severe weather around 11 or 12. I didn't want to be out in bad weather so came home. Will go tomorrow. Strictly a water haul but did pick up my prescription. One day won't make much difference- should have gone last week

Lorita, you got a lot accomplished. But I have a question. Why were there so many mouse droppings on your porch? I realize you live in the country but that seems to be too much!

Beth, the daylilies are lovely! I see why the manager was happy for you to take over the job of caring for them.

Ron, is that a new recliner?

Air quality will be poor in east LA County due to the current fire, which has been ongoing for six days. Fortunately for me, I live south of the smoke and closer to the ocean. N95 masks are recommended for vulnerable people.

I'm going to the senior center to watch a movie this afternoon. TTYL.

Good thing I didn't go to the other town because it's really dark and radar shows a big storm coming in. Darwin had an eye appt. this morning so hope he's home-/his daughter took him.

Iris, I feed the birds on the porch and guess the rodents were after the seed. The porch is not.closed in so no problem to get up there. Our house is in the.middle of the farm with grass and weeds around so they're everywhere.

I wish I.could have gotten the test but maybe tomorrow. It won't change anything.but a negative report would help my feelings.

I'm glad you're not close to the smoke. Take care and wear your mask.

Good afternoon. We had a decent rainfall over night with more rain today. It's been needed.

I ran mom to the lab this morning. I checked her phone; the hospital called her on Thursday minutes after I left. Ugh. I called yesterday when I hadn't heard anything. The scheduler looped me in on the need for bloodwork ahead of the procedure, so I called the pulmo's office which faxed it just as the lab closed yesterday. When I got to the lab, they couldn't find the orders, so I pulled them up on her iPad (they'd messaged them to me as well just in case). They said they needed a hard copy, so I had to email them from the e-chart to the lab, and have the phlebotomist print the email attachment times 3. The folks in the waiting room at the lab were an especially cranky bunch for some reason, making it even less pleasant than usual.

I also had to pick up a medical form for DS attesting to his vaccine record and titer status which is due Saturday. The NP filling in for DS's PCP didn't sign one of the forms, so DS has to bring it in Friday morning.

The scheduler gave her a 1pm slot on Friday for the thoracentesis. I knew this would happen. DH and I have our long standing derm appointment at 1pm on Friday. I figure we'll drop mom at the hospital with me escorting her to the procedure intake team at 11:45. DH and I will go to our skin checks and then circle back to the hospital to fetch mom and take her home. I hope the procedure helps. She's very SOB and exhausted. I'd reschedule my appointment, but I've had hives on my left calf for a month now and I suspect it's a drug side effect. The hives/rash started with the addition of a second thyroid medication. Always something.

I hope all have a pleasant evening.

HB, not for the first time, I have the thought that there should be two of you. I was in a similar position a few years ago, trying to take care of my mother, wife, and son plus work full time. And not doing a great job of any of it.

Lorita, I think your storm is headed my way. It's maybe 40 miles west of here, and we expect rain, at least, this evening.

Ron, any man our age NEEDS a recliner. Glad you're settling in.

Beth, I wish you lived close to me. My garden could use some work.

Talked to a man today whose wife has AD and has been in NH for 4 years. He has a long-term care policy, purchased 30 years ago, but still pays $6K - $7K per month. I guess that's why he still works at age 84. He drives for a car rental company, delivering used rental cars they have sold to the used car dealers who purchase them. His policy was a "Cadillac" policy when purchased, but inflation has eroded its value.

I understand now about the mice, Lorita.

Carl, an 84 year old still working at a job? That doesn't sound right!

I thought about doing a volunteer job at the library but I just don't have the stamina.

I had a wonderful day. The senior center shows classic movies once a month. This month was the Sea Hawks, with Errol Flynn and Olivia De Haviland. It was such as exciting movie, full of intrigue and action and even suspense. I was on the edge of my seat at a few scenes!

All the actors were great. And there was an anti-fascism message at the end of the movie. The "Movie Guy" was there to tell us all about how the movie was made and about the actors and how the movie was received. Does anyone remember this movie or Error Flynn?

Beth - that sounds great (about the trainer). I'm pretty sure you're going to really like having one.

    The daylillies look so cheerful.

Ron - I'm glad you have a recliner! You very much deserve one.

Lorita - I don't blame you for not wanting to be out in bad weather. Better safe than sorry with that too.

HB - omg, hives. I'm allergic to many berries, which have caused hives outbreaks. No fun at all. I'm feeling your discomfort. I hope you're able to get that all cleared up pronto.

With all of that scheduling - that's a heck of a lot of adulting.

Carl - I remember shopping for therapists when my sister was first diagnosed with AD. One of them told me that long term care policies were "a different beast", and she clearly thought that in a lot of cases they were more trouble than they were worth. I was sort of comforted by that because Peggy didn't have any kind of long term care policy.

As for me, mildly busy day today. I got my blog and bluesky posts up. It's always nice when I get that done. Karyn and I put some finishing touches on the blog post last night at Death Guild.

I went to the gym this morning and did mostly boxing and abs + some time on the treadmill. Since we got up to 90 degrees today, I went in early so that I could beat the heat. I'm enjoying the sun today and tomorrow because after that we have rain for the next eight days. I'm bitter. 😄

    Then home and more writing.

I stayed up late last night for Death Guild - great music last night! I'm going to go to sleep early tonight though so that I'll be on track for the rest of the week.

I hope you're all having a nice evening.

Iris - I remember Errol Flynn and Olivia De Haviland! Then again, I really like silent films, so I remember Theda Bara and Lillian Gish too. 🙂 I don't remember Sea Hawks though.

About retirement - my s.o.'s mom didn't retire until she was 82. She was a librarian and she loved her job and didn't want to quit. She finally did because Charleston floods more frequently now than it used to, and she didn't want to be driving on flooded streets. Can't say I blame her.

In I Wish I Had a Pencil Thin Mustache Jimmy Buffet said "I could be anything that I wanted to be, a suave Errol Flynn in "The Shiek of Araby . . ." I don't recall seeing that movie, but I'll bet it was good.

Goodness, I'm behind on reading. Glad for the good things going on and praying about the not so bad. Maybe after this week I can get back to reading and responding each day.

I now am overseeing and transporting my Uncle the road to doctors, pharmacies and anywhere else he needs to go to keep him from driving. Also watching his outdoor activities from across the road and making sure he is safe.

    HB, I'm praying.

    Ron, be careful and enjoy.

    Lorita, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

    Hugs to all.

Another round this morning of heavy rain. Our area and several others are under flood warnings. So didn't get into town for the test. I did get up and dressed but the storms moved in. Didn't go yesterday.because as I was leaving town it began to sprinkle and then rain. Just had a delivery and the guy said the roads are bad. You just don't get on our roads when they're so bad.

Yesterday D. Said his ponds were running over. Can't see the spillway on our biggest pond because of trees. Years ago we came home from work and drowned out a mile from home. When we got out of the PU after water was coming up inside the PU, the water was thigh deep. We had bought 20 lbs. Of sugar so carried it up to drier land - then Charles walked home to get the car so we could get home.

They are doing a water rescue in Creek County, NW of us, now where a van tried to go through water and stalled. They have an airboat trying to rescue two people. Looks like it's a big van and water is halfway up the sides. They got them to safety.

When it began to rain early this morning the girls came to the barn. Before they went in I saw seven little ones running and playing in the rain, like little kids.

What do you all think about the reflecting pool? Saw this morning they are putting fences around it. Won't be pretty for the fourth.

    The Sea Hawk movie trailer:

Check out this video, "sea hawk movie" https://share.google/V2L6MbILm6aOLXwM9

Carl, "in like Flynn" used to be a saying guys used, meaning they wanted to be debonnaire and successful with the ladies like Errol Flynn. The Movie Guy told us this.

The little barn swallow has enlarged her nest. When I open the front door she flies. Maybe this time she will be successful. We had 1.25" of rain this morning.

Reflecting pool??? The bid did not go to someone who knew what they were doing…the surface was not properly prepared…filters were not cleaned while pool was empty…surface not washed with TSP….muric acid was not used as a wash…let dry…apply epoxy paint…let dry…fill with filters over the hoses…Boils down to someone not knowing what they were doing!

    Will watch Sea Hawk…thanks Iris.

Hi Nanny - it's great to see you!

Lorita - that 's really cute with the babies playing in the rain. I guess children are all more alike than they are different. 🙂

What do I think about the reflecting pool? I think it was done by people who really didn't know what they were doing. I've seen various people say that they're going to have to drain it (and maybe repair it?) and then refill. There seems to be a lot of work to be done to have it ready by the 4th.

Otherwise - hot day on my end of the porch - 90 degrees. It's a dry heat and so very bearable. I got to wear flip flops today! That rarely happens in the PNW (at least for me).

Gym was good - all strength training today. Tomorrow will be "combat Thursday", so I'll get in boxing & kickboxing . It'll be about 20 degrees cooler tomorrow too.

Good morning. Sunny and warm today. I think I'll be making a Costco run.

Carl— I wish I was twins.

It's funny you mention recliners. When I had my first knee done, the NP suggested I sleep in DH's recliner as if it was a given that he would have one. LOL, nope. We're over here roughing it with club chairs and ottomans.

Iris— Errol Flynn is quite the blast-from-the-past. Years ago DH and I were in Port Antonio Jamaica and driven around by an old taxi driver who regaled us with tales of Flynn from his days on Navy Island. Wild times. They made a lot of films in the area and he had tales to tell. He did say he never saw Peter O'Toole sober and that Robin Williams and Twiggy were lovely people.

Beth— That's a lot of daylilies. Yikes. Are they a true white of a very pale yellow? I have a couple old fashioned Hyperion daylilies that open lemon yellow and fade in color through the day. They're my favorites— massive blooms, a lovely scent and "open evenings". Regrettably, they're the resident deer's favorite as well.

Gothic G— 8 days of rain? I don't blame you your bitterness. Eight days in a row would mean cranky joints and bad hairs days for me.

Your mention of Lillian Gish reminds me of the quip from Bette Davis. During the filming of The Whales of August, the director said "Miss Gish, you have just given me a perfect close-up" to which Davis said "She should. She invented 'em".

Nanny— Another relative in need of assistance? Is this uncle related to the aunt you see regularly? Are you seeing much of the grands now that school is out?

Lorita— Funny you mention the reflecting pool. It came up at dinner with friends Sunday night. FTR, 3 of them a PhD chemists and horrified by the incompetency on all levels of the project. These people were out of their depth. It's basically what Judith said. Surfaces weren't properly prepared, the curing of the epoxy coating was not done properly at all and the issues with the mechanicals weren't addressed. (The motorcade was not a good idea during the curing process. I truly thought this was made up, but evidently no) When my DH mentioned the hydrogen peroxide to his friend, the man laughed so hard he passed water through his nose.

Ron— Once you're settled and ready for company, be sure to share a couple pictures of your new place. It looks nice on the website. Will this be a shorter drive to appointments?

    ___________________________________________________________________________________

I met a friend for lunch yesterday to celebrate her birthday. It was her pick, so closer to her house. She picked a French cafe in the loveliest residential area of the city with a cute shopping street. It's an area with which I am unfamiliar with limited parking. I left on time, but missed a turn and had to find a spot to park so I was about 5 minutes late. I called to give my ETA and friend had completely forgotten. She was able to meet me and we had a lovely lunch. The food was nice and reasonable, but the drinks were insanely priced— $6 for a just ok iced tea? What?

I need to make my list and get out there before it gets too hot. I need to figure out dinner as well. Maybe a stir fry of sorts.

    Be safe out there.

Morning another rainy day on tap. Flood warnings everywhere. I was thinkingof.going in to have the Hantavirus test.but from what I read the best thing to do is monitor temp, breathing , severe muscle aches and if anything is elevated go to ER. My doctor will be back Monday and I have an appt. This is day 14 and everything is ok. Talked with Mike last night and the FedEx driver and.both Said the roads are.bad (Mike said awful). With more rain this morning I do not need to get out and get stuck. Does this sound like the best.thing to do, Iris?

About the reflecting pool, cost has already.been 16 mil!ion and repair will be about the same plus.now there are dead ducks from being in the peroxide and other things they have put in the pool.

Weather just said there has been 7" of rain in Osage County, North of us. Rain will be here later.

A short note to let you know what’s happening. Grandson brought my big screen tv yesterday, but no time to mount before my six minute walk test. Guess I flunked the test since I was put on oxygen half way through the test. I hope I don’t end up dragging a tank behind me when I’m out. Still just a recliner, mattress and tv, son and grandson suppose to move this weekend.

If you end up needing supplemental O2, your doctor should prescribe a portable oxygen concentrator for you. Mom's probably weighs less than 5lb (a little more than my handbag) and can be worn in a crossbody bag or backpack. She gets about 3+ hours on a battery charge at 2 liters. It can be charged at home or in the car. She also has a massive home unit with continuous air and tanks as a backup.
