Just need to talk to my friends (219)

Ron, some of your breathing problems could be attributed to the anxiety and excitement of your move and getting things set up. I know if I get anxious about something my breathing is affected. Do you have an anti-anxiety pill you can take? I think you will be better when you get settled in. Maybe you can get your tv set up so you can watch it and relax some.
I just talked with Diane, one of my doctor's nurses. She said it should be ok to wait until Monday when Doctor is back to see if the test is warranted as long as I don't have nausea or vomiting or high temp. I will monitor and record everything until Monday. You have to have a covid test and a flu test which necessitates swabbing of your nasopharynx for the flu test. That last one would hurt.
Wish.both Ron and I good luck.

This morning all of you who busily go to the gym and/or run relatives around came into my thoughts. Along with those came a word…pottering.
Pottering (often followed by "around" or "about") is a mainly British verb meaning to engage in light, pleasant, and unimportant activities without hurrying.
I have decided that pottering is likely my main activity!
1 -
We always said "puttering" around. I heard it called something else the other day but forget what I was- I think it was Darwin or his daughter who Said it. That is what i do most of the time-putter - after more than 33 Years of controlled work and doing reports on time I feel entitled.

Carl, I would help you with your gardening if you lived closer! Was Kathy the gardener in the family?
At our previous house, I had more than 100 daylilies. They're one of my favorite flowers. At our current home, my lot is much smaller. I have maybe 15 daylilies here. HB, the lilies a the fitness center are white. Very pretty.
Daylilies among other things at our former place and a pretty poppy - I haven't had any luck getting them to grow here but just adore them.
1 -
My mother used to talk about "puttering" around.
Yes, Lorita, your plan sounds good. Did you say you got a blood count the other day? It should indicate if your body is responding to an infection or not. Keep monitoring for symptoms. I hope your roads will be drier by Monday.

No blood test , Iris. It says symptoms can present frm 2-8 weeks. May be that my doctor can do a test Monday if he thinks it's necessary. Eight weeks is a long time. Thanks Iris.
The roads will dry out this weekend if we don't have more rain. One FedEx driver wouldn't deliver yesterday because of what he called extreme weather conditions.
Beth, you certainly have a green thumb. Flowers are beautiful. My black eyed Susan is doing well and I have a pretty, white Althea blooming. Never got the pink bathtub planted.

Beth….fabulous poppy!

Good afternoon. Goodness, I had a lot to go back and read through to catch up.
The hot tub has decided it wants to have a teeny tiny slow leak. One that you can't easily find. When the spa repair man was out last Friday he "guessed" what it "might" be, but of course he didn't have an air gun to replace the side of the tub if he took it off. He said he'd call Monday and come back. Ya right. Tuesday afternoon I called and of course whom I needed to speak with wasn't there, but he'd call me back. ya, right. Late Wed. just as I was ready to call I get a text, a rather curt text telling me what's wrong with the tub and "it will need to go to the shop to be repaired. But a new tub would come with warranties and be new & be a better way to go." Ever so politely I told him that wasn't what his repair man said. His next text was curt again & I'd had it. I wasn't going to let someone whom hasn't seen the tub tell me what's wrong with it. I told him we had a failure to communicate between repair, him and myself. When I mentioned theft of services he turned to Mr Polite. (Its not but it sounds good!) Of course his repair man had left for the day so he'd talk with him today and get back with me. Ya right! I've not heard. I don't really want them working on it, I now have trust issues. But I'm between a rock and a hard place if I don't want a new tub. Ugh. Sometimes being the adult is really overrated.
Today's DH's birthday. I took him out to breakfast and his favorite meal is cooking. His allergies are awful so he's not on top of his game today. But always, in a good mood. I'm so thankful for that.
Lorita we've not gotten the rain that you've gotten. Be careful with the roads.
Everyone else I'll catch up with you later. Time to peel potatoes. Be careful everyone.

I have heard of "In like Flynn" all my life, but I never knew it was related to Errol.
I have heard of puttering and piddling all my life too, but I never heard it pronounced pottering. England and USA, two countries divided by a common language. 😁
Beth, Kathy and I both liked to garden, and in our early 60s we dug up and planted some pretty good-sized flower beds. Now I'm almost 80 and I'm not keeping up very well. It's thundering and raining right now, and more is expected tomorrow. Saturday is expected to be nice, so maybe I can do some catch up then.

Eagle, doesn't that just burn you up? Repairman or the company think we are dependent on them (in a way we are unless we can find someone else). A few months ago my frost free faucet by the corral had two slits appear that spewed water when I wss filling the water tank.I knew if I called the plumber he would say I needed a new faucet. I found a tube of Waterweld.(Charles always kept a tube or two). You cut off a piece of the two colored stuff and knead it until the colors combine and is softer. I put that on the two slits and let it dry and.no leaks since. If you can find the leak, you might.try that. If you live on a farm or ranch, you need baling wire, duct tape and Waterweld to make it.
Terrible earthquakes in Venezuela, both over 7 points with lots of aftershocks. Worst in a century. Over 100 dead with 25,000 unaccounted for.
Torrential rain now in Tulsa, tornado in the Panhandle and possibly more rain for us with tornado warning. Heat wave beginning next week. Carl, you will probably get some of this weather

Lorita, a thunderstorm just passed through. Another is in SE Kansas and headed our way. And yes, we expect heat indices above 100 degrees F next week. Summer is officially here.

I'm not ready for hot summer.. Here we call it hot, hazy and humid summer. Good night, everyone, sleep tight.

Lorita, that's interesting about Waterweld. I told a guy today I was impressed by all he knew about fixing things. He said he grew up on a farm in the Midwest and that's where he learned to fix things. I never heard of Waterweld. I don't know how to fix much because I grew up in apartments.
Good night.

Good morning. It's gray and damp here today. On the plus side, it meant my room wasn't flooded with sunlight at 5:30am so I was able to sleep until 7am.
Judith— I've heard pottering on occasion. My dad lived with his grandparents for a time after his mom was widowed and his grandfather Percy was from England. My favorite of Percy's expressions was "mooch". Having a mooch/mooching is shopping without an intention to buy. Related to pottering, I've heard puttering, piddling and putzing (which loses its sexual connotation but is more wasteful or avoidant in nature).
Iris— So true about farm people. One of my dear friends grew up the only son on a potato farm. I don't think there's anything he can't fix or do. Welding and cars are his main hobbies, but he's a good cook and can sew at an intermediate level.
Lorita— How long will the Waterweld hold? I've seen things like this advertised on late night TV, but never really believed it would work long term. I'm glad this did the trick.
Eagle— Did you have hot tub repair issues last year, too? I recall somebody here complaining mightily about a delivery issue on an accessory or something.
Carl— That weather doesn't sound fun. DH has been texting his old high school buddy in Bloomington, IN— the weather's been wild where he is.

Mom's procedure is at 1pm today. I hope it improves her energy level. She was pretty miserable on the phone yesterday. She's prone to depression and anxiety as a baseline, but yesterday she was the worst I've seen her since her second blood cultures came back positive. It's dawning on her that the POC is permanent and she is struggling with it. Her vision is worsening and I think that's impacting her mood. Plus, she's really lonely. She was complaining bitterly about eating all her meals alone which makes me feel guilty. On the days I spend dealing with her many appointments, I'm too exhausted to make dinner usually bring home some sort of take-out.
I gingerly asked if she'd want to tour a CCRC. She balked at the kind of people who would live there. There's a Quaker community near me that has open talks and events for seniors— perhaps I'll create a ruse to get her to the July discussion about decision making or senior yoga.
DH and I will get her settled at the hospital, have our skin checks and then pick her up after. Maybe we'll get a late lunch at the farm store's little lunch counter. They make an exceptional smashburger— better than any of the local restaurants. Plus, they have ice cream and an onsite bakery.Next week looks crazy busy. Tuesday, she has an endo appointment, Wednesday hair for me, Thursday her pulmo follow-up (I had to move my hair appointment as this was the only available time. I'm pretty salty as it means I mess seeing niece for dinner) and Saturday niece is throwing her annual 4th of July party which means I'll likely have to drive her. DS is planning to go to the Navy Yard that day to see The Big Boy. Personally, this concerns me. Philly is crazy town on any given 4th of July anyway with Welcome America and such. The Navy Yard is a mere mile from the sports complex where they're hosting a FIFA round of 16 match at 5pm. I don't think the subway can handle the ridership this will generate.
Have a good day.

Hot, humid and sunny day on tap here today.
Back to the Uncle's house to deep clean. @harshedbuzz Uncle is younger brother (82) to dear Aunt (85). We live on the same country road. Uncle is having focal seizure activity and returns to Neuro Monday for re-evaluation of his ability to drive. Many prayers that the answer is yes. He has no children of his own but does have grands and great-grands by marriage. Everybody works. Except me. Which means if he is not able to drive he sits all alone everyday. It's tough on him. Then Monday later in the day he has follow-up with the Cancer Center. After any doctor visit I send group text to relatives so they know what is going on. Uncle does not hear well and rarely wears the $50 hearing aid in one ear that I bought for him, lol.
Dear Aunt is going to lunch with friends today. I hung her outfit on the peg yesterday and set out shoes and socks to match. I'll run down there this morning to make sure she's up and getting ready. She has a dear friend who takes her to church every Sunday, so that's nice. The Caregiver will increase to 3 days a week starting Monday. She's a godsend. Aunt loves her.
DH has an appointment in Winchester today and then will hop over the mountain to deliver cooked food and groceries to his brother.
It's a busy but fulfilling day. You all have a good day and be safe in the heat. TTYL

muck-about…another English expression …as in muck-about the shops
1 -
Afternoon all.
The heat is on, goodness. Temp is only 96 but the index is 108 and its not noon yet. I've noticed when Madison goes outside she goes to the edge of the cement then tries to zoom the next 10 ft that is stone. I put my hand on it and know why, its hot. So I've put an outside run on the stones for her to walk on and moved an umbrella to help shade it. Did I have to do that, no. But I always have, so there you have it.
Yes I've got hot tub repair man issues! In the summer months I have the heater turned off, so its swimming pool water warm. I need it for the jets. Just something else to deal with.
I've only heard of muck, as in mucking the stalls out.
My daddy could fix anything. I remember telling people that he could "fix anything big or small like your pinky nail." And he could. And I'm pretty good about fixing things myself. Although the hot tub is above my pay grade & involved electricity, I don't mess with that.
Let's be safe everyone.

Nanny G— How kind of you to look out for your uncle. Prayers for a good report Monday. Housebound is no way to live. I'm glad you aunt still has a social network supporting her.
Eagle— Ugh. I thought it was you. How annoying.
I think if you bring an animal companion into your life, you owe them whatever it takes to keep the comfortable. Madison certainly deserves it.

On the plus side, the derm appointment went well. Neither DH nor I had any suspicious areas to freeze or biopsy. She doesn't think my rash is a drug reaction but instead eczema from the normal post-op swelling I get in the evening from being on my feet. She prescribed some cream to calm it down. She also thought the scar would fade and flatten over time. DH and I were in and out in 20 minutes.
Mom's procedure didn't go as well. Once she got to the procedure room, they were unable to locate fluid to drain. Both her cardiologist and pulmonologist heard it. It was on her last x-ray. I suspected this might be a least invasive Hail Mary but am disappointed nonetheless. She could barely manage the walk from the lobby to the cath lab and needed to rest for a couple minutes in a chair midway. This is new for her. I'm thinking I might want to get a transport chair.
HB1 -
HB, I'm sorry your mom is not doing so well and that the procedure wasn't helpful.

HB, are your mom's legs edematous? Do you think she could wear compression hose to help manage her fluid? Is she on fluid restriction? Did the doctors offer any change in the treatment plan? I hope she will feel better.
I grew up in apartments and the extent of my "fixing" is changing a lightbulb. But I am proud of myself now. Last week I managed to read up on drain cleaners and chose an enzymatic drain cleaner and managed to clear my slow drain. I didn't have to call a plumber! Yea, me!
The cold storage fire in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles is finally under control, after six days. Firefighters were assisted by a huge water crane borrowed from Texas. Also water-dropping helicopters were used. Modern firefighting is complicated!

I've been reading about a possible heat dome building over the eastern half of the US. In the worst places temps will be over 100 degrees. Be careful out there.
HB - That's a great Lillian Gish story - and I'm sure it's mostly true. I'd forgotten about that movie …
I'm sorry your mom isn't doing better. How are her spirits? Like you say, a transport chair might be a really good idea.
Judith - I want to potter about. Does reading count?
Pottering, puttering, piddling … my mom always said piddling.
Beth - I'm always awestruck when I see pictures of your former garden. I can't even imagine doing all of that. And not killing everything, of course.
eaglemom - happy birthday to your DH!
Nanny - you're just amazing. I don't know how you do all of things you do.
Iris - I'm glad that fire is finally under control. Did people end up needing to be evacuated?
In spite of my bitterness with the rain, I've had a couple of satisfying days.
I finally did a total word count for the posts on my blog - I'm up to 86,000 words. (!!!) What a blabber mouth I am! I'm feeling good about it though.
Gym's been good - lots of cardio and abs this week. I finally feel good about my spinning back kick. It looks like this. There are different ways to do it, but the video I linked to is pretty much how I've been taught. My trainer is all about not telegraphing your moves.
I'm not doing any work over the weekend, I'll do my weekend cleaning, but other than that, I'm taking the weekend off. 🙂

@Iris L.
We see pulmo for follow-up on Thursday. That's the thing, she doesn't appear to be retaining fluids— she has no leg swelling and the addition of diuretics to the mix didn't result in a weight change. No fluid restriction.
She seems worse than she was even a week ago. I'm anxious around this as the pulmo is headed on vacation for 2 weeks Friday.
HB0 -
GG…Not unless you ar reading an instruction manual because you are fixin to do something
Grand daughter in STL in labor…phone is in my pocket!!!
3 -
Judith, how exciting! Hope all goes well!
GG, that spinning back kick is something…something I don't think I'll be doing anytime soon. Good for you!
I took a few garden photos this morning.
2 -
Good morning,
HB, praying for your Mom.
Son and Grandson are supposed to be moving my heavy stuff today. Hopefully tomorrow getting out of bed will be easier.
Ron
1 -
Beth, what pretty flowers! Are they native to your area?
HB, is your mom coughing? Some medications, such as lisinopril, cause coughing as a side effect. That might affect her breathing. I hope the pulmonologist will have answers for you and her.
Iris

Morning, first great grandchild, Judith? Hope all goes well.
HB, sorry your mom isn't doing well. Will say a prayer for her.
Ron, hope you get your apartment all set up today.
Beautiful flowers Beth. I transplanted three purple basil plants into a planter on the front steps. Something eats everything I plant there so maybe they won't eat the basil. Found two.purple althea blooming this morning but grasshoppers are eating them.
We had another half inch rain last night but areas north along the Kansas line had up to six inches. Now comes the summer heat and humidity.
Back later.
