Good morning

Good morning. It's the calm before the storm here. Very cold (8F) and the kind of clouds that "look like snow".
Eaglemom— Thanks for your kind offer of knee-mentorship. It's funny how different this experience has been since my previous TKR in 2019. I'm not sure if it's the result of time lapse bring new best practices or a different practice and preferences. Last time I was outpatient but kept overnight, this time I'll be there about 6 hours total and met by an RN and PT at my home. This time I get a lot of supervised outpatient PT, last time I had a one-size-fits-all program to follow online. Prep this time includes Mupirocin 2x daily before and after to reduce risk of MRSA and a long-acting nerve block injection to reduce the need for opiates. This time the PA ordered my meds ahead of time so I can skip a trip to the pharmacy the day of.
I had the protein recommendation made. I had trouble with that last time because of nausea. This time I bought some shakes to have on hand to supplement. I've gotten all my gear out of the basement— the walker, shower chair, ice machine. And I've treated myself to a new wedge pillow, leg pillow (for extension) and sexy compression gel wrap. I also treated myself to some eye-wateringly price On Cloud Eclipse sneakers that are easy to get on. I wanted to get Kiziks but they don't offer much in the way of support or cushioning. Anything else I should round up ahead of time?
I've made a couple meals for the freezer and will do another one or two this week which will help DH who can cook but doesn't.
Carl— Funny you mention stocking up. I took mom to the smaller upscale grocer yesterday as they had what I needed to buy (Yorkshire Gold and Typhoo tea) and lovely produce and breads which is what she was after. They were just about out of eggs and had no "normal" milk. I was able to get DH's Lactaid and some coffee creamer for mom but had to stop at their sister store on the way home.
Iris— Cheeseburger Week is something I can get behind. I do like a burger. My favorite fancy burger has blue cheese crumbles and house-made fried onion threads on a French country roll from Le Bus bakery in Philly. Otherwise, a Cali burger with Cooper Sharp, crisp iceberg lettuce, a summer Beefsteak tomato from NJ, a couple rings of red onion on a Liscio seeded Kaiser roll with Hellman's. I find most restaurant fries a disappointment. Give me an order fresh from the fryer at McDonalds.
Carl— How kind of the man at the shop to make a donation and trust you to do the right thing with it.
Years ago, DH and I had cheeseburgers at Le Select on St Barth's which was rumored to be the inspiration of that song. Or at least the owner claimed. It certainly had that vibe. Bonus points for having Mikail Baryshnikov saunter by wearing shorts, an open shirt and a broad smile.
Judith— Whi is Johnnie and what's in the sauce?
Gothic G— My semi vegetarian friend treats herself to the occasional Impossible Whopper which she really enjoys. Her church sponsored an Afghan refugee family, and she's become an auntie to their teenage daughter. They're headed there after the girl's clarinet lesson later today.
How do lobbyists frame such schemes in a positive manner?
Lorita— I've seen the vet use the towel assist on our old St. Bernard. It took a beach towel and two younger folks to shift him.
Lady Z— Your TV diet is very like my mom's favorites although living alone she doesn't like to watch such things at night unless my niece is staying over. Then they drink Chardonnay and binge watch.___________________________________________________________________________
We're in the path of the storm which should start here before damn tomorrow. We'll be charged up tonight— phones, my watch, iPad and power bank. I'm seeing totals between 8 and 20"+ depending on a transition to sleet because of warmer air aloft. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.
I hope all have a pleasant and safe day.

Icy roads this morning. Sleeting now. More expected tonight and tomorrow night. Wrecks all over town.
We’re staying home and mucking stables today. I’m thinking of making some Brunswick stew or slop bucket soup. And cornbread.DH went back to bed for a nap so I’ve swept, mopped and cleaned a little. I can’t stand a messy house when I’m stuck inside. Y’all be safe today

Still eleven here but WC is now three and the sun is threatening to shine. I swept the snow off the porch and steps. Very light and fluffy. Pyrenees went out and stayed while I fed the birds. They love snow for a while. A town east of us had 4.5"not sure about us. I have seen a couple of heifers go to the water tank but I haven't been out there yet. The second round of snow is in SW Okla. Coming our way by mid afternoon. You all stay in and be safe. Charles and I would have enjoyed going out to take care of the girls years ago -did so many times.

Good afternoon

Good afternoon
I'm enjoying everyone's weather report. Our is 19 degrees and WC -9. Madison went out this morning and wasn't pleased! We've got both snow and ice. Right now its tiny snow with more coming.
I'd briefly thought I'd start getting our tax info ready, but it was a fleeting thought! DH wants to play a game and I'm much more in tune to doing that.
Everyone please be safe, this weather is brutal.

You guys tempted me with hamburger talk, so I went out in the snow to get a burger and fries at the diner. It wasn't cooked on wood and came with coffee instead of beer, but it was brought by a pretty little girl, so that's another fantasy brought to life.
Five degrees and small snowflakes here, but no ice. The snowplows are keeping up and I didn't have a problem. One of my neighbors was out shoveling 2-3" of snow from his driveway, I guess so he can go out in his 4WD PU. We're not friends. He thinks I'm a lazy ass and I'm pretty sure he's a nut. I'm not about to shovel this stuff. A neighbor 20 years my junior had a heart attack doing that last year when it was cold like this.
Eagle, I hear you about that paperwork. I'm not motivated to do that today either. This is a good day to read and watch it snow. There's a crow in my yard that looks huge, but his feathers are just fluffed out for warmth.

We had sleet for a while but snow is moving in. Fed the birds x2 and went out to run water in the tank in the lot. Handle on hydrant is frozen so if I run water later will have to pour warm water over it. The tank was a little over half full but frozen. So cut the 1-2" ice so they can drink the water and I can run more. Don't know if they cut ice on pond this morning.
Soup is about done- wish you all were here to help eat it.

Iris….. johnniesburgers.com. I think just about everyone in okc uses this or Head Country.
Beautiful snow.

Head County is the best barbeque sauce I have ever tried!!
Judith, how much snow did you get? Looks like it's snowing there now. Kind of pretty but not so much when you're out in it. Hopefully, the ice is not so thick the cows can't break it but it will be tomorrow.

HB - About lobbyists and surveillance pricing — a few of their arguments: "if we regulate surveillance pricing then loyalty cards will go away", "if we regulate surveillance pricing then coupons will go away", "regulations will hurt small businesses". In fact none of this is true. Every regulation I've ever seen has carve outs for loyalty cards and coupons. Who knows how regs will hurt small businesses.
Carl and eaglemom - I can't think about taxes yet. It's just too much.
Lorita and Judith - I've now made a mental note about Head Country for when I next have an impossible burger. It'll be at least three months from now.
Iris - so jealous of your 60 degree weather! 🙂 It's been in the mid-30s all day. It's supposed to get down to 27 tonight. Brrr.
I hope all of you in the storm's path stay safe and warm.
As for me, I've had a fairly productive day. All of my Saturday chores are done and I spent the evening doing classes for my continuing legal education. We have to complete 25 hours by the end of March. I do most of them online (easier and cheaper), and the way they keep you honest is by having various check points in the middle of the video presentation. When it's one of the checks, the video stops and a little box pops up and you have to check the box. Once you do that, the video resumes. It feels like Lost to me - if any of you ever watched that show - Desmond had to push the button every hour or so otherwise horrible things would happen. I guess for me it would mean I wouldn't get credit for watching that presentation.

It's 4:30 and 9 degrees WC is -9 with light snow GPs wanted to go out so let them out for a couple.of minutes. Put on my coat and hat knowing I would need to help Sheena up the steps. She was sitting in the snow so.went out in the yard to.help her. Just needed a boost, held onto her collar to get up steps and inside.. We're back in bed for a while. So cold out there. Radar shows snow all around except right here until it fills in..
Iris, our.high yesterday was 13. Enjoy the warmth you have. Will try to sleep two or three hours - all is quiet now.

I hope all in the path of the storm are doing OK.

We're up and it's snowing and windy. The birds were calling so took out some feed for them. I know the water tank is frozen but right now I hesitate to go out there. Maybe they will cut ice on the pond. Looks like everything is closed today

And the Waffle House Index is at 26 closures last I heard.

Good morning,
10 degrees with a -7 feels like, and looks like the snow has stopped.
I wished I felt like it, I would love to go out, but better off staying inside.
Ron

Burrrrr and good morning.
If your in the path of the storm please stay in. Last night we had snow on top of the ice - not a good combo. Everything is closed today and tomorrow. Now its the brutal cold. Come on Tuesday where we should hit 30!
Going to fix breakfast, back later.

Good morning.
Isn't there supposed to be a thaw in January? We have a few days left for the thaw.
I hope everyone stays warm and safe!

It's 4 degrees with 15 mph wind from the north, so it feels like -14. I'm eating breakfast and watching it snow. Some little birds are sheltering in the shallow snow under the Spirea bush. We're north of the ice, a foot of snow to keep us in but nothing to take out the power lines. Glad to hear from you, that means your power is on.

I had forgot about that Iris. Think it is skipping me this year.
Lots of snow here. I blowed at 9 . Guessing around 6 inches. Came in and fixed some cornbread and blueberry muffins. It now looks like i never snow blowed. Will bo back out around 3 and do again. Then hope to have a good supper and not deal with now until morning. It is su ppoe to snow during nigh but be lighter.
Take care

Sun is shining.but the north wind is blowing bit very cold. Tonight the temp is supposed to below zero. Still have water running.
I have fed the.birds three times and they clean up the feed in no time flat. Mike.just called - he is out checking ponds. Says the ponds are covered with snow so it is not hard frozen ice but kind of slushy. He's doing this on the north route- 14 ponds while the guys are feeding on the south route. Tomorrow they will switch. I asked him to look for Billy while he is here.
Asked him about Sheena panting and coughing and he said lung x-ray may be needed and back on antibiotics so will get her in when I can.
All roads are snowpacked. He said the town where I go is almost closed down- and only a couple of places open.
Mint, be careful out there snowblowing. Do you have cleats for your boots?

brrrrrrr….upstairs heat not working so looking forward to tuesday

The sun's out and the snow appears to be over. Maybe when the County gets the main roads plowed they can plow my street. It is buried under a foot of snow that won't melt until Tuesday at the earliest.
I just received a text from a younger friend, asking if I'm home and doing well. I am now officially one of those elderly people living alone that good people check on.

Me, too, Carl. It's 16 here and will be minus 1 tonight. You had more snow than us. Mike said there were a couple of wild sows and 20 little pigs at one place this morning getting into his creep feeders-everything has to eat. Darwin is down to feeding his birds crushed Raisin Bran. I have fed at least 20 lbs. Since Friday.

Good afternoon Rockers.
It sounds like everyone is staying safe and warm. The weather here is nice, but very cold. The high today is 36 with the sun shinning and the low being 16.
Mint. When your out snow blowing, I hope your not alone. It would be so easy for you to fall.
Carl. It feels strange having people checking on you, as we age. I don't feel that old yet, I'm only 80. And 80 doesn't feel that old to me.
Ron. it really look cold out your front door. Staying inside and keeping warm is a very good idea.
Lorita. Please make sure you have your phone with you when you go outside, and in your pocket so if you fall it won't get lost. Has Mike found billy yet? What will Mike be looking for when he xrays Sheenas lungs?
Our news is showing places getting below -30, hopefully none of you Rockers are in one of those places.
Your all in my prayers, Hugs Zetta

Haven't heard anything from him. Zetta. If he didn't see him he would have let me know. Not sure he has.been here yet because he may have had an emergency.
Maybe looking for pneumonia when he x-rays Sheena. Probably needs more antibiotics but it will be a while before I can get her over there. I let her out a while ago, came back in then went back to help her up the steps and my hands got so cold, they hurt. It looks nice but so cold. I do take my phone and medical alert when I go out. I won't be out, I hope, until tomorrow. Didn't even take down the trash because I doubt if they will run tomorrow to pick it up.
Watching football and it is snowing really hard in Denver-hope it stays there. Everyone stay warm and safe.

SeaHawks are in Super Bowl LXV. I've watched every one of them so hope I can see this one, too. The other team is the Patriots.
Very cold tonight so stay warm. It's 10 degrees right now - below zero predicted.
