    Good morning,

Another first for me since moving to Missouri. I was sleeping good until I felt something on my back, under my thermal undershirt. I sit up, reached under the undershirt, grabbed something and threw it. I got up turned on the light and looked around without finding anything. Being shook up and now thinking I imagined it, I’m up making my coffee. Guess what……after sitting on the couch a small mouse ran into the heater vent. I wasn’t sleeping well last night and this little mouse might be why. Ugggggh, now I’m jumping at every little sound I hear.

Lorita, we used to be neighbors to a couple whose grandson played for the Patriots. His name was Matt Chatham and I believe he had 3 Super Bowl rings.

"He spent the first six seasons of his career in New England, including contributing to three of the Patriots' Super Bowl victories (XXXVIXXXVIIIXXXIX). He was known as one of the leaders of the Patriots' special teams. During the 2003 season, he recorded his first and only NFL touchdown when he recovered a Tiki Barber fumble in a game against the New York Giants and returned it for a 38-yard touchdown.

    [2]

In Super Bowl XXXVIII, he tackled streaker Mark Roberts, who had come onto the field just before the second-half kickoff." per Wikipedia

That 🐁 meant no harm, Ron. He was just trying to get warm 😆 If it's any consolation, I've lived in Missouri nearly all my life and have never had a mouse climb into bed with me. The mice here are no friendlier than those of other places. This is a once in a lifetime event, I'm sure.

Carl, not only did the mouse get in bed with me, it was in my thermal undershirt crawling around in my bear back. I will be tucking in the shirt tonight, sewing it to my skin or whatever it takes to keep my body mouse free.

Both furnaces out as of last night. HVAC repair here now so all will be well.

Last night I found a down comforter…put it on the bed…it was cold so threw it into the dryer to fluff and warm up. It plus the space heater kept me more than warm.

All fixed…minor repairs and he checked the generator. Says they only need servicing 12-18 months.

Today I will clean out my computer and telephone then redo my "secrets" list where account #'s etc are located.

Sunny and beautiful outside my window.

Lorita i do have cleats but didn't need them we just had snow. My guess is 12 inches.

there will be no melting here. Going to be in single minus numbers for 7-8 days at night. When it warms and all that melts it will get nasty.

Judith glad your heat is back on.

Ron i have heard mice don't like mint, if you can come up with a way to make your bed smell a little minty

Iris I think it will be Feb. 8.

Ron, that would freak me out.too. Poor little thing -he was jus trying to find a warm place.

Super cold here.but sunny and calm. I have been out on the porch several lines letting the GPs in and feeding birds. Had to open the second 20 lb. Sack of.bird feed and another 18 lb. Sack of sunflower seeds.

Wrote the above about an hour ago- things have happened since then---Decided I would try to get water to the girls by filling the water tank. Couldn't get out one yard gate but did through another. Snow is drifted to about knee.high. Poured hot water over the hydrant and it finally thawed. THere is now a hole in the pipe.but got the tank filled.

Got back in and in five minutes looked out the door and there wss a cow in the water. She had walked about 20 ft out on he ice and fell through and couldn't get out. Called Mike and he said he would call the guys who are in this area. Kept watching and saw another cow walk out toward the first one and she fell through! Both of them struggled but finally the second cow got her footing and managed to get out. Then the first one did the same. I am completely convinced that the second cow went out to help. Because she was taller she.got her feet on the ground and because she had.broken the ice toward the bank they were able to get out. So after all that and four calls to the clinic I think things are okay for now.

THe girls have heard a truck and have gone up to the MH. Guys have not shown up so guess Mike called them off. They were out feeding and cutting ice elsewhere. Ours is the last place they feed on this route..

Judith, glad your heat is back on. I have our generator serviced twice a year. You know we have.had trouble with ants.

    Mint, be careful outside.

Zetta. I saw Billy this morning. He is okay.

Beth, the Patriots have always been good.but just not my favorite team. I think it will be a good Super Bowl.

Ron, you need a cat! If you were close you could have Sammy-he is driving me.nuts today.

Better stop and check out the pond. Will be glad when the ice melts-maybe in April!

Good afternoon. Ok Ron, I thought I had a story no one would believe, but I think your buddy the mouse might be the winner. Yesterday afternoon I watched something happen I've never seen happen before. As I was at our front dining room window I noticed the neighbor across the street, that her car looked funny. It was parked oddly. I walked away but when I went back it was worse, it had moved. So I called her. She went out and pulled it to the top of their driveway. (They have a very steep driveway, very steep.) A couple of hours later I look out and the car was sliding down the driveway…… with the ice coating we have and the snow apparently the car, even in park wasn't staying at the top of her driveway. I called again and out several neighbors came to push it back on the bottom of their driveway sideways - with logs under the tires so it wouldn't slide anywhere. I've never watched a car slide down a driveway before.

We had more snow last night. Nothing is open, no one is out & about. Thankfully we've kept power. They've canceled school for Tuesday and my guess is they will for Wed also. They can't get the schools warm & they can't drive the busses on the side streets. We don't have snow plows down here. The county has some for the main freeways but that's all.

Lorita you've got to be careful being outside. The cold will get you before you know it. Everyone else in the path, be prepared to stay home. I saw a sign on Facebook that said: Your about to be home for several days. Chose wisely whom you allow yourself to be with! I thought it was funny. One of my friends has a 16 yr old daughter. I received a text that read: no one's killed anyone, yet!

I don't want to ramble here. I'll check back in. Please everyone, do be safe.

    Good afternoon.

It's cold and sunny here. We lucked out with the storm; we got about 10" of fine dry snow before it crossed over to sleet for about 8 hours. We didn't lose power thankfully. And neither did mom. DS snow-blowed yesterday just before dark but had to repeat again this morning for additional snow accumulation and the 10' wide 3' high icy mess the plow managed to dump in the driveway. At least he left the mailbox accessible. The first plow that came through yesterday was great, the one this morning was either an idiot or in the 25th hour of an all-day shift. The township hires independent contractors; the one we normally get went to high school with DS and is careful not to plow is in.

    Pizza tonight. Everything is prepped.

Ron— That story is truly horrifying. I shared it with a friend who was complaining about her cat nestling under the covers in the middle of the night; she agrees she got the better deal.

    Off to do some pre-hab.

HB - I wasn't aware of the Waffle House index until a few years ago. It's kind of cool. There's a Waffle House not too far from where my s.o.'s mom lives. I kind of want to go to one, but I haven't been able to convince either of them to go with me.

Zetta - do you have snow, or is it just very, very cold?

Oh dear God, Ron. A mouse in bed with me would have freaked me out. I hope it was a one off!

Judith - I've done that with throws and comforters. Throw 'em in the dryer and then they're nice and warm. It's been so cold I've been wearing my Snoozies (those little slippers I like so much) to bed.

Lorita - be careful out there! Interesting about the cow — I think they're smarter than people realize. That's why whenever one escapes from being taken to be killed I always root for them to get away.

eaglemom - our neighbors across the street have a very steep driveway and on the rare occasions when it snows like that, we always let them park in our driveway (which is flat). I can absolutely picture a car rolling down a driveway in the snow.

Over on my cold side of the porch —-

My s.o. made vegetarian chili yesterday. It was SO good. Very hearty and warming. We'll be having leftovers of that tonight (and I won't be complaining).

I'm kind of in my interim groove - gym in the morning, a couple of MCLEs in the afternoon (my continuing legal education classes), then prepping the blog posts for posting, and then writing at night. It's been working for me.

My trainer asked me this morning what classes I have to take, and I told him that almost half of the 25 classes (each one hour long) I'm required to take are about eliminating bias in the legal profession, classes on implicit bias, civility in the legal profession and legal ethics. He said "huh, so people still care about those things?" And I told him the California state bar cares! 😄 After I do all of those, then I can take classes that interest me. When I was taking care of Peggy I took every single class in elder law/medicaid/social security that I could get my hands on. Now I'll fall back on privacy law.

So yeah, all of that is keeping me off the streets and out of trouble. 🙂

Did you guys read about that guy who climbed Taipei 101 with no ropes? That was a 'wow'. Lots of photos at that link.

GG. The news this morning showed that guy climbing with no ropes, he's a crazy guy, I bet he has done this many times. No snow yet right now its 38 with a low of 19. Predicting a little snow on Wednesday. It is so cold outside, the cats don't even try to get out.

Ron. That poor little mouse was so cold. I think going down the heater vent would kill it. Do you like cats 🐈 if that had happened to me I would still be running.

Judith. Im glad your heaters are working. And you had a good space heater to keep you warm. It's a good thing your electricity did not go out.

Lorita. Every time you talk about going outside it scares me, so many things could have happened. Im glad both cows got out of the water. Im afraid they don't always get out! Have you thought about building a ramp to make it easier for the GPs to get up to your door?

It's so cold here and a lot of fog. We live pretty close to the Boise airport, close enough i can see the planes going overhead. The fog has been so bad. I can only hear them. Im surprised they are even taking off.

Stay safe and warm 🙏 your all in my prayers. Hugs Zetta

Thanks Lorita. Where will the Super Bowl be held on Feb 8th?

Oh, those poor cows, to fall into the pond! I'm so glad they got out. But won't their hide freeze since they got wet? I feel bad for these feral cats here when the temp gets to the low 50s at night.

GG, thanks for posting the video about the climb. What a feat!

I'm turning in now. Good night.

    Good morning,

I made sure my thermal shirt was tucked into my pants real good and put socks over the pants to make sure all mice entry was sealed before bed. I still woke up all during the night to see if one was crawling around.
DIL offered to make me a small pair of pajamas for my new friend. I told her no thanks.

My neck is hurting worse, I guess the mouse scaring me Monday morning had me jerking my neck around.

Morning pretty and sunny here with very little wind. It's 29 degrees and was in low teens last night. When I opened the front door this morning there were two of the girls on the pond but they got off the ice without breaking.through. I cut the ice on the water tank and it was about 3" thick.

Yes, Iris, getting in the water for a while, then out in the cold will chill them. The vet says the cold doesn't hurt them too much because of their hair and thick skin, if they are dry. My girls don't agree because they head for the barn when it's cold or rainy -guess they are spoiled. The thermometer on the porch says 43 but the bright sun is reflecting off the white porch wall.

I wouldn't be surprised if some cattle were lost in ponds, usually happens.because no one sees them to get them out. I have full view of two of our ponds so can watch them. If ponds are away from houses, no one sees what happens.

Ron, glad Mickey let you alone last night. Did you sleep well or did you have bad dreams?

You all be careful in the snow and cold.

Ron, at least we don't have alligators in MO.

Another neighbor called today to see if I'm OK, and yet another ran his snowblower over my driveway while he was doing his own. I'll owe a lot of favors by Spring!

It's 31 and sunny here, with 40 predicted for tomorrow, then back into the deep freeze for a few days. It was -12 the night the mouse came in, which broke a long-standing record and is about as cold as it ever gets here.

    Afternoon Rockers!

Sunny, 36* but feels in the 20's with the wind. I am so ready to be in Texas where it is 60-70*!! And I dread the power bill that's coming. I am grateful that we did not lose power during all the ice we've had.

Kids in town are back to school today with a 2 hour delay. School closed until tomorrow in Huntland with the more rural roads. One great grand had the flu but is improving, so another thing to be grateful for.

The RV is mostly packed except for one last grocery run. Not much, just odds and ends. Working on clothes today. Will put those in the RV tomorrow. No mice detected, thank goodness.

All our outside animals are fine. My cousin lost 4 baby goats during the weather. Mamas did not clean them after delivery. They were inside the stable in the barn. It's sad but it happens. We had a few that look as tho they may be bred but it's early if they are. So no worries while we are away. Grandson does a good job looking after them and the dogs. Bonus to the pay we give him are the eggs he collects while we are gone, lol.

Well, those clothes are not sorting themselves so I'll get back to my chores.

    Everyone stay safe and warm.

Sorry about the baby goats, JeriiLynn.. It happens but is awful. Mike had a heifer that was trying to calve and his nephew went to check her. She had calved and mom was working really hard to dry her baby.. He said she had dried 3/4,s of the baby so he put the calf in the truck cab and mom in a trailer and brought them to the clinic. Hard weather on animals and ranchers.

Have a good time in Texas. Guess it must be Southern Texas. Did you all have snow and/or ice?

Zetta - I can imagine climbing Taipei 101 — via the elevator!! 😄

Ron - I'm glad there were no mice. Ugh!

JeriLynn - I'm sorry about the babies. That's very sad.

I hear you about wanting to be somewhere warmer. I keep looking at the temperatures in Hawaii and wish I were there.

All of you in the path of this second storm coming up - be careful out there!

Temps for us were at 50 today - practically shorts weather! 😄 It'll cool off over the course of the week though.

I just realized the Seattle Seahawks are in the Super Bowl. Here's how ridiculous I am - when we first moved up here and I saw their logo for the first time, I thought it was for the post office. Their seahawk logo is somewhat eagle-like. I know, I know. 🙂 But yay them, I'm glad they made it.

Iris, the Super Bowl will be in Santa Clara, home of the 49ers. I didn't know where the 49ets were until I checked, thought they were still in San Francisco.

GG the Seahawks logo does look eagle-like, doesn't it and USPS too. Hadn't thought about that.

Just got back to bed. Sheena woke me up panting so got her up and let them out a few minutes. Doesn't seem too cold so tuned down the heat. Now everyone is asleep and I'm wide awake. She lays down with her back legs straight towards her head so can't get up.She was 12 on the 23rd, so she is a year older than I am. I will keep trying to help her just like I would like to be helped. She ate very little today. Worries me.

Going to try to get.back to sleep.

Ron, hope you are mouse free tonight.
