Carl at least we eat the alligators in Louisiana, you can’t eat fuel mice unless your starving and have plenty of Louisiana hot sauce.
Groceries were getting low so I went out for the first time since the snow in. No problem at all, had to be extra careful getting off the mountain, but once on 65 it was clear sailing. Hardest part was bringing all the groceries in, I was huffing and puffing the whole way.

cold and sunny
had a terrible phone call with my niece last night…I honestly feel she is not acting in the best health interest of my sister. I called the facility last night to see if I had been put on the "list". I told the nurse I spoke to that I had jus wanted to say hi and tell her about the snow and sweet dreams. Nothing health wise. The nurse said of couse I could talk to her and that she would go to the room with her own phone and put her on if she were sleeping.
She called back that my sister was sleeping.I thanked her then this voice came on and said that mom was getting rehab…OT and PT and that her mother did not want me to call to get information from the nurses station. Obviously she does not know that they can not give me information without HIPAA permission. I asked if her mother had said that I could not call the nurses station. No. she replied. My sister did not want anyone to know her status.
By this time I knew It was Penny I was speaking to. She is the one with "medical training" when she was with EMSA in 1980. I told her I would be calling the nurses station. To leave an hello for my sister. She said i wasn't allowed to and gtha she was going to hang up. I said goodby and rang off.
There is a real problem with Penny and yes she has MPOA. Problem is that she is making wrong medical decisions. My sister's younger daughter agrees. Today might be very interesting. I will fight for my sister but will not make waves for younger niece.

Judith, I'm sorry your sister is having so much trouble.
Ron, I've never eaten mice or gators, but I imagine either is edible with the right sauce. I just don't want to sleep with mice or gators.
I'll be eating pretty soft for a few days. One of my old, capped teeth broke yesterday and I had it extracted this morning. The dentist had to take it out in pieces, that was fun. Soup and scrambled eggs for me, no salsa even, if it has seeds in it. Boring!
1 -
So sorry this is happening, Judith Is your sister able to put your name on the list or give you the code so the.nurse can give you information? Brings back a memory about what Sarah did about you-remember? Where is your sister?
No mice or alligator eating for me even with a whole bottle of any sauce,Carl.
Ron,glad you made your grocery run safely. I know what you mean about bringing in and putting away groceries. Does your local Wal-Mart deliver to your area?. It is a really good thing. I'm careful about only ordering delivery when the roads are good. Pretty sunny and fairly warm here. The guys fed this morning snd.I guess cut the ice. I filled the water tank and e handle p hydrant wasn't frozrm. Some snow has melted but has refroaen which makes walking harder.
I think I will see if the car and PU will start. I did See a road grader on the road east of me this morning. I imagine there are drifts on my driveway so might not be able to get to the mailbox. The snow has drifted over the covers on the daffodils.
Sandy, are you all snowed in? Looks like you all got snow.

Hello Front Porch Friends.
We finally got some snow. Im not happy 😕 about that, but so be it. Im just staying inside watching out. We did not get much, but more is on the way.
Lorita, sorry that poor Sheena, continues having problems. Do you have a ramp for her to get up the steps?
Ron. How is your neck feeling today? Please be careful when you bring groceries in, maybe wait till someone is there to help you. Hopefully you don't have a long walk from your car to your door.
Carl. Enjoy your soft food, ice cream, mashed potatoes, soup. There is a lot of soft food. I had dental surgery done a few years ago and I'm still not liking my new teeth, so I leave them out most of the time. I eat a lot of soft food. I hope your feeling better.
Judith. I know its hard but please try not to get to stressed, take a few deep breaths.
JeriLynn. Iam so sorry to hear about the baby goats. I'm sure this is something you and Lorita, have leaned to live with. But with as much love as you guys have for them its got to be hard. I bet your looking forward to the trip. You can relax knowing your babies are in good hands. With your grandson being there. Safe travels.
Stay safe and warm. Hugs Zetta

Zeta, enjoy the snow- remember how hot it was in Arizona.. I don't believe Sheena would walk on a ramp but I will try it when it is a.bit warmer. She only ate about half of her glucosamine wrapped in cheese. Maybe she will eat some later
Both the PU and car started. Decided I would see if I could get to the mailbox so drove the PU. It wasn't drifted much so I was able to get the mail. The main road is snowy but okay so I'm not snowed in!! I'm letting the motors cool so I can put the cedar back in.

Carl, your tooth problem reminded me of a wisdom tooth I had pulled when I was in the Army. My tooth was killing me and it was infected, I went to the base dentist and he pulled the tooth with it infected. My jaw was swollen bad, hurting and to top it off I was assigned to CQ that night.
Judith, it’s a shame how some family members treat others. If your sister didn’t want to talk to you, she should tell you herself.
Lorita, I really don’t know if Wal Mart would deliver out here. Even if they did I probably wouldn’t have delivery service. I’m funny about my food, I like to see what I’m buying before paying for it.
Zetta, yes my neck is still hurting and it gets worse when I’m driving and loading along with unloading the groceries doesn’t help. Even though I could get help I’m still to stubborn and believe I’m still able to do for myself. I do finally have an appointment with a neurosurgeon next Tuesday and my pulmonologist the same day.

Ron…Just a fill in…my sister is almost not able to speak coherently after the stroke (s). It is her daughter who is getting something out of "being in charge". Thankfully the younger daughter and I are on the same page.
Zeeta…I will breath but can i also scream????
Lorita….I had forgotten that Sarah had said no visitors.

Ron, you would be surprised about how good the vegetables are on delivery I have always wanted to select my own but I have always been satisfied with their choices. I'm 15 miles from WM and was surprised that they deliver here. I was tracking a delivery Last week and they went at less 30 miles. Try it you'll like it You can select time they deliver.

Thank you, Lorita. (about the Seahawks logo.
About Sheena — animals are funny. I never thought our cat, Gamera, would use steps to get to the window sill, but she did.
Ron and Carl - I had alligator once when I was in Florida for a conference. It didn't really make an impression on me. I normally don't eat meat, but I made an exception in this guy's case, because he would have eaten me first if he'd had the chance. This was a long time ago, btw.
Ron - We've used grocery delivery on occasion and it's worked out well. I'm like you, I like to see what I'm buying before I buy it, but I've not been disappointed.
Judith - I'm so sorry you're going through that with your niece. It's hard. I'm glad the younger daughter is on the same page as you.
Zetta - I wouldn't be happy about the snow either. My guess is that if we get any, it will be in the middle of Feb. My fearless prediction.
Over in my cold section of the porch - I'm kind of tired. My s.o. has been involved in the current legislative session and has testified on several bills (good for him!). But, it means the alarm is going off at 7:30am - which is mighty early for me. I need a morning where I can stay asleep until at least 10am. Maybe on the weekend. 🙂
Otherwise I've just been working away. I've been listening to music and Temple of Love by the Sisters of Mercy with Ofra Haza came on. Interesting duet - he's so very goth, and she's —- Ofra Haza. Somehow it works. Her voice was just out of this world …

Interesting: Today is National Puzzle Day. The first jigsaw puzzles were created by John Spilsbury, a London map maker and engraver. 1n 1767, his initial puzzles were maps mounted on wood and cut into small pieces to teach geography. During the Great Depression, puzzles sales soared to ten million per week.
I like puzzles. I used to put real puzzles together. Then I started putting digital puzzles together. Now I do word puzzles and mah-jong puzzles.
Does anyone else do puzzles?
Iris

I do the NYT Crossword daily. Most days I also do Wordle. If I'm really bored, "medium" Sudoku.

I like crosswords and sudoku. I have never been able to solve jigsaw puzzles, just one of the glitches in the way my brain works.
One of my neighbors works for a computer software company. He told me he was hired because he is a musician, and musicians often make good programmers. They taught him all he needed to know, and he earns a comfortable living troubleshooting customers' data problems.

I do jig saw puzzles…500 pieces. During the Covid there was always one on the dining room table.
Iris…interesting history
HB…my husband did the NYT Sunday crossword in red ink
I used to think that the world was divided into 2 kinds of people until one person thoughtfully told me that she was a crayon. Don't you love that?
Furnaces now totally repaired. The sun is bright and the streets, I hear, are a sheet of ice.

Iris, I used to do jigzone puzzles on my tablet. No longer, life is enough of a puzzle. It was sunny earlier but cloudy now. Snow is melting but another cold front is coming through.
Fell last night getting Sheena up on he porch. Got her up and guess I got my feet tangled up. Didn't fall on the concrete steps or fall four feet off the porch. I don't feel sore today from that so guess all is good.
My back and ribs on both sides are sore from pulling and lifting Sheena. She.can occasionally get up.but it is getting harder. She is eating very little so that is not good.
She and Stormy and all of you from a distance, have gotten me trough these ten years since losing Charles and all the other losses of family members. I don't know that I can handle losing her. I lost one Great Pyrenees who was only ten months old. He got down and couldn't get up-it is just too hard. I know the time is coming for Sheena and Stormy who is having problems too.
Judith I saw on the news they found a deceased woman in a trash can in Edmond. Seems her son may be a suspect. What is happening to people?

Good afternoon. We have mail - the first delivery since last Friday! Our ice / snow is melting. However, we have another blue northern front coming in tomorrow. The good news is that its just cold and windy, no ice or snow. I wanted to see how thick the ice mess was on our driveway - I used a pick axe and chipped a tiny bit. Just over 6 inches of thick ice. Unreal. Even driving cars over the ice it wasn't making ruts. Thankfully the sun has caused it to start melting.
Iris I do puzzles on my tablet. They really relax me.
DH is needing something. let's be safe everyone.

Good afternoon.
Carl. It's nice you have neighbors checking in on you. When I moved out of Oregon, I lost that neighbor contact. We had the same neighbors for 30 years, so everyone was keeping a eye on each other. I miss that, neighbors don't seem to care about each other, like they used to.
Ron. I never thought I would like having my groceries delivered. Now that's how I shop. I have never been upset about anything that was delivered. A few times they forgot something, all I did was call and the missing item was sent to me that same day. We live 25 miles from Walmart, we pick the time we want it delivered and they have never failed. I really don't like driving that much anymore.
Judith. You scream all you want, the louder the better. You have a good solution to this problem. Please don't let your niece upset you.
GG. I hope you get caught up on your sleep, this weekend. I have a pretty set schedule, I'm in bed by 8 pm and up by 5am. How did tne alligator taste? Can you remember back then? When I was a kid we had snake one time and never again. I don't remember how it tasted. But I do remember how it looked laying on the kitchen counter.
Iris. I used to love putting jig saw puzzles together. I find it hard when I have cats, my cats are all over the place. I have tried xword puzzles, unless its a easy one, i will give up.
The snow we got yesterday has melted away, still freezing outside. Yes Lorita, I remember how hot Arizona was, i need to find a in between spot. But right now I'm missing Arizona. 🌞
Good day to all, hugs Zetta

Hello all.
Judith, so sorry about your sister. I hope she can get the care she needs.
Puzzles? Nope. To me, they are just frustrating. Not one bit enjoyable. I do like Wordle and have a 30 day streak going.
I have pork chops in the oven. We also have potato salad and corn. Yesterday DH and I cleaned the oven and it really did need it. It no longer has a burnt type odor when I'm baking something.
I joined the local fitness center this week. Tomorrow I have a meeting with a personal trainer who will show me the ropes and answer questions. I also have a meeting with a trainer who works with seniors - there are classes twice a week and they are challenging in that they build upon the past. They are not just exercising in a chair. I will learn how to use the various machines. I have been doing what I know how to do before my learning sessions: treadmill, lifting weights, planks, some yoga….GG, I am inspired by all you do and looking forward to getting more fit, like you have done! I got my heart rate up to 133, which I think is pretty good (upper limit of my target heart rate).
Lorita, I'm sorry you fell and sorry Sheena isn't doing well. Our pets just don't stay healthy and live long enough.
I've been reading Charlie Donlea's books - so good! He has written 8 and I have read 5. They are mysteries and have lots of twists. Two of his books, one with over 400 pages, I read in 2 days! Couldn't put them down! My goal for the year is to read 40 books.

I tried using a towel or scarf to help get Sheena up like you all and Mike suggested. Doesn't work because it's lifting her middle and not her back end. Her back legs extend toward her head when. She lays down, just like they don't want to bend so she can't get them under her to help her get up. She did eat almost a can of food and several vanilla wafers.
Hope you like your gym work, Beth. With all the gardening you do you will be in top shape.
Zetta, why do you get up at 5 and have you always done that? I have gotten in the habit this cold weather of staying in bed until 8. Won't do that when the sun comes up earlier.
Eagle, that is awfully thick ice. You all must have had freezing rain. Be very careful.and don't fall.
Good night sleep tight

Iris - I didn't know that (national puzzle day). I'm pretty good at doing jigsaw puzzles, but I don't much enjoy them. Mostly I do them with my s.o.'s mom when we're in Charleston. If I'm going to do puzzles, I like the logic puzzles like this one (it took me awhile to figure it out, but I did). For me, the key was testing where the ivory house was and where the red house was in relation to the others.
I'm not great at crossword puzzles or sudoku, for that matter. I think it's the grids that throw me off.
Carl - I've often heard that math and music are related, and if so, that could explain why your neighbor got the job as a programmer.
Zetta - I'm looking forward to sleeping in on the weekend.
I hope all of your snow melts!!
Beth - I'm psyched that you're getting a personal trainer. I bet you'll love that experience. The really good ones are great at finding that spot where you're being challenged, but not so much that you can't do the exercise. You're probably ahead of the game since you're doing so much already. I don't get my heart rate up much past 130 either. I usually keep it in the 120s when I'm doing cardio. Keep us posted!
As for me - It's been a long week for some reason. I think part of the reason is that I've added in the continuing legal education to my other stuff. I'm more than half way done, but for now it kind of feels like a part-time job that I don't want (25 hours total needed). I did a few classes on privacy law today, which was good.

Good Morning,
My baby boy is 55 today, so I’ll be celebrating his birthday today. Starting with breakfast this morning, ending with dinner tonight and any thing he wants to do in between.

Good morning, all.
Bitterly cold for here this morning. 3F. I'm meeting a friend at a nice pizza restaurant for lunch. She's an early riser, like me, but she also likes to eat early. 11:30? That's breakfast for me. Maybe I'll order sausage.
Gothic G— You really need to experience a Waffle House at least once. Years ago, we went to Charleston to help while my BIL had one of his bypass surgeries. While DH was at the hospital, I took care of my youngest niece and DS. Niece wanted to go to Waffle House for dinner and so we did. We were seated near two old career Navy vets who were comparing their careers. One mentioned that he was supposed to go to Hawaii but got reassigned and was glad because he "didn't want to leave the country". SMH. The eggs, potatoes and waffles are surprisingly good.
Jerilynn— Safe travels and I hope you have a warm and wonderful time in Texas.
Ron— I've never ordered delivery, aside from curbside sodas when picking up at Target, but my friends assure it's fine. I, too, am fussy about what I buy especially in the meat, deli and produce departments. Some of the bigger delivery services actually shop their local warehouse meaning what comes from there is fresher and hasn't been handled as much.
Birthday wishes to you "baby". I hope he has a great day.
Judith— I am sorry about the disconnect you are feeling with a niece who isn't making the decisions you would. I've been on both sides of this. With MIL, my older BIL (an ER doc) was making decisions and pretty snappy about them. I asked about PT and he said he'd bring in hospice instead. MIL, who had vasculitis, lived another 6 years and lost the ability to walk overtime which meant she had to go to a SNF. DH and I still believe we were right but we were 700 miles away and didn't get a vote.
Zetta— I'm sorry you're still unhappy with the teeth. Would it be possible to have them adjusted or made more comfortable now?
Carl— I had a tooth fracture during extraction which meant excavating to remove shards. It seemed to take forever and was pretty unpleasant. The connection between musical training and math/logic is pretty well documented. My old math teacher used to complain because when the band was dismissed early during his 7th period calc class 2/3 of the kids left.
Eaglemom— 6" of ice? That's crazy. Will you have a break in the temperatures soon?
Beth— It's always great when you find an author/series that speaks to you. I've not gotten into mysteries, but my BIL's 3rd wife has written a few. She was consulting DH (a chemist) about poisons for a couple of them. I've not gotten a copy of her first yet, but the excerpt on Amazon is beyond cringe-worthy.
Lorita— I am sorry to hear Sheena isn't bouncing back. That's always so hard on one's heart.
__________________________________________________________________________
It's still cold here and it doesn't look like we'll be above freezing in the 10-day forecast which is unusual in these parts. DS dug his car out. Finally. But it won't start. Once with weather breaks, he can get AAA out for a jump. He may need a new battery; it's hard to say. I need him to widen the path to the front door, too. It's not wide enough for my walker.
I should be staying home getting the house ready for my convalescence. I need to deep clean and declutter the living room where I plan to camp out. DS has something of a rat's nest in one corner and my niece's 6' raised planter is still in front of the fireplace. Ugh.
I hope all have a good day.

Ron, Happy, happy birthday to your son! Not a baby anymore, ha! My kids are 47 and 43, not far from yours. I'm glad you live close so you can spoil him.
