Zetta, I looked back at the picture and.now I see Lily with he purple flower collar. She looks like she is pretty much okay with it, maybe that is because Fiona is with her. Fiona is beautiful. Never saw a white German Shepherd before.
Well one of the hired hands came and dragged the baby out of the barn and down the hill with the cow running behind. I told him he should take the calf away from here. The little cow is down with her baby now.
Years ago on my route to work I saw a cow by the fence with her deceased baby. She stayed with that baby several days until the owner moved it. Nothing done with the afterbirth.
Carl, I'm sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how much that hurt. The MCC sounds like a nice place, it would be for me because I like pastures and cropland. I hope it works out for both of you.
I dread tomorrow because of the high winds and fire danger. It is pretty green for about a q uarter mile south of us but there is sage grass beyond that and then a meadow that is short
Don't forget the eclipse tonight. News just said Putin wants to talk with Trump about the ceasefire. Wonder what they will cook up against Ukraine.
0 -
What time is the lunar eclipse tonight in central time?
0 -
Thank you, Lorita. DW had an ectopic pregnancy and nearly bled to death, so it was pretty traumatic for all of us, including our oldest son who was three years old and watched me carry her to the car. Motherhood isn't easy.
The eclipse has started and peaks about 1:00 AM CDT. It's only partly cloudy here so I may get to see it.
I don't know if Trump is a Russian asset or if Putin just outsmarts him, but my expectation is that Trumputin will carve up Ukraine like Hitler and Stalin unless the EU steps up and says NO! Trump has accomplished one thing: he has western Europe spending a lot more for its own defense, because they know they can't count on us and that Putin won't stop stealing land and people until he is forced to do so. At gunpoint. Those earthquakes in California are Ronald Reagan rolling in his grave.
Did you see the red carpet Canada rolled out for Secretary Rubio at the airport? A beach towel is larger! It appears Canada wants to join the US about as badly as Ukraine wants to be part of Russia.

The current measles outbreak is regular measles. This is not rubella aka German measles . Your doctor or local health department should be able to guide as to your immune status or getting a vaccination.
I feel happy today. I went down to the DMV to renew my driver's license as a walk-in. All the appointments were for after my license expired, and for offices far away from me. I was determined to wait all day, if necessary. But it took me less than an hour. I just needed to take the vision test and to give my thumbprint and to have my picture taken. I did not have to take the written test. So I'm good for five more years! I feel so relieved. This is off my mind now.

The MC is a pretty place with a nice view and fenced courtyards to walk and sit outside safely. It lacks the urine smell I associate with overcrowded and understaffed nursing homes (I visited quite a few when I worked for the SSA), and it has a nursing wing so she can just move across the hall if she needs skilled nursing care. They take Medicaid so she won't have to leave if she runs out of money. The posted activity schedule for today included Bible study, Bingo, and a craft session that was going on while I was there. You wouldn't confuse it with a good hotel, but you wouldn't confuse it with a jail either.
The MC is on a hilltop and faces north, and you can see for several miles. I'll bet visitors are treated to a "refreshing breeze" in winter. Maybe I won't have to find out.

David — that cookie looks soooooo good.
The measles outbreak just keeps on getting worse and worse. I realized that my mom kept baby books for all of us - and I even know where mine is! So, when I get back home, I'm going to go look up my vaccination records. I'm sure that info is in that book, then if I need a booster, I can tell the doctor why I think that's the case.
I'm thinking about all of you with the wind and the possible tornadoes - I hope they pass you by (or better yet, that they don't happen at all!).
Zetta - I loved that photo of Lily and Fiona! Fiona looks so alert (it's the ears).
JeriLynn - I hope you start to feel better.
Carl - I'm sorry about your wife's ectopic pregnancy. I can only imagine how hard it was at the time for all of you. Touring memory care facilities isn't easy either. I hated every minute of it when we were looking for a good one for my sister. I was happy with the place we chose though. It took Peggy a little while to warm up to it (after she moved in), but she acclimated. They had karaoke as an activity and she really enjoyed that.
As for me, I'm in San Francisco right now with my guy. The several days that we're here are now packed with seeing friends and family. And Monday night is the Death Guild anniversary. Psyched that I get to go there in person. I've already picked out my outfit, and I have expectations for the night: I'm expecting cupcakes, a coffee mug, and to hear this punky version of Loch Lomond. Hey, you take the high road and I'll take the low road, and I'll be in Scotland before ye. 🙂 It should be a good time.
Oh, and here's a photo of Dolores Park this afternoon. After 47 degree rainy weather for days and days, this was a nice change. That large tan and white building across from the park is a high school. If you were to walk a few blocks to the left, you'd eventually get to our old apartment.
And now I have to update Firefox…. hopefully the update won't kill my accounts.

I love San Francisco but I haven't been there in years. My father was stationed there for a while during WW II and he liked it a lot too.
The Death Guild event sounds like a good time. One of my friends sings very well and loves karaoke. She and her husband were in a karaoke bar a while back and the local Steampunk group was there. She thought it was really cool, seeing all those people in Jules Verne outfits singing.
The Earth's shadow is partly covering the Moon, so the eclipse is underway. It is beautiful here, with scudding clouds passing the full moon as it is devoured by the dragon. Soon the moon will glow red, and the dragon will be forced to disgorge it.

Good morning,
I'm better this morning. It's unusual for me to "lay up" and I'm glad to be "normal" today.
Everything on the local news is about the upcoming rounds of severe weather. It starts tonight with lines of storms moving in around midnight. It's a "weather alert" day all day Saturday. So today, we will make sure everything is battened down outside.
Zetta, your babies are beautiful. I love the purple flower cone and Lily doesn't seem to mind it. I think Lorita is right, Fiona is a good friend to her.
Carl, I'm sorry. My youngest had a few ectopics and I remember the sorrow and helpless feelings after each of those events. She was told she would never carry a pregnancy to term. But she did and now our miracle baby is 14. The memory care location sounds pretty. Hopefully you won't need it, but it's good to have a plan for backup.
Mint, we're getting our garden ready to plant. DH has gone to the gin to see about getting some cotton hulls to work in the soil. I think I know now why my land was always used for cows. It grows grass but the soil is really lacking in nutrients. We'll see if my tomatoes do any better this year. Of course, my favorite thing is the Cherry tomato bush I always put in the patio flower bed. I can just walk right outside for fresh salad fixings.
Lorita, I'm sorry about the calf. It's just so hard to watch. I'm glad you were able to offer some comfort. Hopefully they will move the baby today.
GG, my one visit to SF was a long weekend at the Presidio. A beautiful park, the bay and the Golden Gate outside our window. I would've loved more time, but had to get back to work. A couple earthquakes there yesterday?
Ron, glad to hear from you. Hoping you feel better.
Time to get up from here and see about some bottles. Have a good day.

Happy Pi Day.
Ron— I hope they can come up with a plan to relieve the pain you are experiencing.
David— I had no idea Fuddruckers was still in business. Ours closed decades ago. The aroma coming from the building was mouthwatering.
Carl— We missed the blood moon here— too many clouds. Same thing for the Parade of Planets. Bummer. It funny you mentioned the roll out of the polio vaccine. I recall lining up for the Sabin-laced sugar cubes at the old high school when I was little.
Lorita— How sad for you and your little cow.
Eaglemom— Your tree sounds very festive. I had mom to her retina specialist and infusion office this week and both of their trees were festooned with green for St. Patrick's Day.
Gothic G— That's a great picture. Good luck sorting out the immunity status. Your mom may have noted this is your book. They can do a blood test to determine if you're immune either through vaccine or disease history. I have a friend whose brother is a PCP; he suggested she have the test to make sure she was up-to-date on vaccines before becoming pregnant. Her measles vaccine did need boosting.
Jerilynn— It sounds like the wall won. I hope you are able to take it a little easier.
Zetta— Cute pets. I love the flower cone. When my godchild's cat was spayed, she came home in something called a recovery suit that reminded me of a baby's footie pajamas. It was too cute.
Iris— I am glad you were successful at the DMV. It could have been so much worse.

Today is DH's birthday. We'll all be going out for dinner later. He wanted to do the Indian restaurant's buffet lunch but DS talked him into dinner so he can order spicier options from the full menu. I kind of prefer the lunch, too, because there are so many options. DH wants chocolate pie, so I'll need to put that together once I've woken up. In the meantime, I got him donuts and can put a candle in one.
I thought I had a quick stop at mom's yesterday. I was planning on a quick 5-minute medication swap and be on my way. The grocery store beckoned. It was not to be.
I was greeted by the odor of natural gas when I opened the door. It seemed she had bumped into the far-left knob of her stove and turned on the burner but not far enough to ignite it. She just all enough that the knobs catch on her belt loops of pockets when she reaches into her corner cabinet. It's a terrible design. Her sense of smell isn't great as the result of an antibiotic she took years ago for an animal bite. I ordered a gas leak detector which should be delivered today once I got the house aired out.
With that done, I changed her medication in her bedroom as I'd opened all the windows, and she needs to remove her shirt. While in her bedroom which is still a disaster from her wardrobe swap, she casually mentioned that her new bi-pap machine doesn't work. I asked if she called the company which delivered it to her on Tuesday. "No", she said "the lady told me I needed to set it up through my phone". Grrr.
This means one of two things happened. The respiratory therapist who came to deliver and do patient education, looked at my little, tiny 87-year-old mother with her essential tremor and AMD and thought she'd have no problems downloading an app and following steps to establish an account, register the device and following the training video. This would demonstrate really poor judgement. Or mom blew her off saying "my daughter can help me with this" because why have the professional do something that is their job when she can ask me to?
I never did make it to the store. Fortunately, once set up the bipap works without the app. I love who the iPhone parked the icon next to the one for her hearing aids and myCharts.

Lorita, sorry about the calf. I know it hurts.
HB, our gas stove has the burner knobs on the front and my husband and I have both accidentally turned the gas on. I bought child-proof stove knob covers on amazon. These are the ones we bought.
To install them, we had to remove the bezel. Here is a quick video that shows how to do that. Hope this helps.

Morning, thanks everyone for the sympathy/empathy. I can't tell if the cow is with the baby because all of them are out front at pound there. It is sunny, warm and sooo windy, from the SW. Looks like we will be getting topsoil from NM and Texas. I hate when the wind blows like this.
Glad you're more yourself today, JeriLynn. Take it easy.
Iris, nice you got your new license. I got mine in 2023, I think, and won't have to do that again until 2030. No tests involved just the mug shot. It's one advantage of getting more mature, I guess.
Pretty picture of San Francisco, GG, but being or living there would scare me to death. I am certainly a country girl.
Carl, I feel so bad for what's happening to our Country. Never thought this would happen. Looks like Trump and company are doing anything they want. Don't know if Schumer did the right thing or not. Birthright question is going to the Supreme Court today, I have said it before - so glad I'm retired and.not a civil service employee anymore. I think the MCC sounds good especially with a NH unit in same place.
Need to finish up tax prep today but the wind makes me too nervous to concentrate.
Glad I got those limbs down to the brush pile yesterday. Could not do it today. You all be careful in the path of the storms. Tomorrow will be better but next week they say we will have a couple more days of high winds. Wind wss so strong on the porch that it blew one of the bird feeders so much the seed blew out. Back later.

morning….the pear trees will be spectacular this weekend then next week will have the beautiful spring green leaves
0 -
Judith, I bet they are beautiful in town. Do those trees have thorns? Many of ours have long ones. There are several blooming on the north side of the meadow and by the pond, don't know about West side of meadow. OG&E sprayed the trees along the north side of the meadow and pasture and killed !ot's of them. Now dead trees are falling over on the fences. Maybe this weekend I can find a nice, small one.
Weather just said Hobart in western Okla. Had gusts of 67 mph and dust is coming. Worst is still in. Western Okla. But headed to us and then to Arkansas, I guess. Probably headed to you, too, carl. The cow is standing down by her baby!

This home health monitor system must be working. When I sent my readings off this morning oxygen level was 87, a nurse called me within 30 minutes. Of course, as always it had gone back up to 92 after kicking back in my recliner for awhile.
Hope and pray everyone that is in the path of the storm stays safe.
Ron

I just cannot watch the Big Bear eaglets anymore. It seems 1 is missing. 🥲 I don’t want to know.

We're expecting storms tonight. Very, very windy now. One of our downspouts blew off; hubby fixed it.
Went to lunch with two friends today. We had a good visit and where we ate is in a lovely old fashioned shopping area and I walked around and window shopped.
Be safe everyone.

I haven't watched in a day or so but oftentimes when one is a couple of days younger b than the others it doesn't get fed because the older ones push it aside. I was worried about that.
Winds are awful, getting stronger and the dust is here now. I can't see even a mile now. Lots of big fires between Tulsa and I 35. We are now under a fire warning, Northwest of us. Wind gusts in Tulsa 86:mph. Weather is on just like when we have storms. Big fires northeast of OKC. For the moment out humidity n is a little.higher but will get less. One fire even jumped a river.
0 -
the sky is just not the right color…smoke? dust? both?
2 -
Both probably. Talked with Darwin a while ago and shingles are blowing off his house again and Donna is going out and bringing them inside. He just had shingles put back on last week. Our weather is on all the time.now and showing where the fires are. Dryline has just passed us so humidity will be going down. The winds are so strong it's bringing down power lines. They just said this will continue until six or seven. Winds are so strong the fires are jumping highways and even rivers.

Went to my pcp for the Veterans when I got there i was told that I did not have an appointment. I worked for government for almost 40 years so this didn’t suprise me.
1 -
David, I hear that same thing in the private sector? What part of Government did you with in ?
Carl is the severe weather moving into your area?
0 -
Hello Front Porch Friends.
Lorita. It's so sad hearing about the babies dying and how their moms react. I know how hard this must be on you. My prayers are with you for your safety during the wind and fire danger. 🙏
Ron. It's nice hearing from you. How are you doing with your new teeth? I go to the dentist on Friday, to see if my gums are ready for the new teeth. I'm getting along real well, without them. I'm not looking forward to getting used to them.
Iris. That's good news about your visit to DMV. When I renewed mine in 2021 I was pleased it will last till 2029. I may not even want to drive by then. Driving in Arizona, is not as easy as driving in Bend, Oregon. Probably because I always knew where I was going. 😄 my daughter does the driving here.
Carl. I'm glad you found a place that you like. When my DH was in MC, it was in the same building as AL, so when they had to move someone from AL to MC, the move was, pretty easy. And a good view is always good.
JeriLynn. I agree it is so hard watching the baby birds right now, not knowing. This morning during the feeding I saw, the bigger one was stepping all over the smaller one. 😒. I'm glad your feeling better. I hope you plan on getting some rest today.
GothicG. I remember when Peggy was in the care facility, and all the loving care you gave her. I followed you guys closely. That was a beautiful picture of San Francisco, when I lived in Sacramento, I spent a lot of time in San Francisco. My favorite place was Fishermans Wharf. I was born in Sacramento.
HB. Happy Birthday to your DH. I hope you enjoy your dinner out tonight. Your so right, it crazy why someone would think a little old lady, could remember stuff like that. I'm 79 and there is no way I could even try to figure it out.
Be safe all of you getting weather warnings. We had a high wind warning Wednesday, night. And before I got things out of the wind, it blew one of our plants over pillows off the outdoor furniture and turned the cat house upside down. But alls well now.
Hugs to all Zetta

Fires are continuing and some towns are being evacuated. Flames 15-290:?ft. High are jumping highways. This is west of Tulsa. Now humidity in our area is getting lower and hot spots are showing up. Aur quality is terrible with smoke and dust. Did you all see pictures of semis blowing over around Amarillo? Unbelievable. Worst I have ever seen. Many homes and animals lost. Cedar trees are explodinng. Climate change. Terrible storm, tornado outbreak in Arkansas moving east.
Such a stressful day. G Ps sense my anxiety and the weathermans. Are there only two little eagles now?
1 -
We had a tornado here in SoCal, about 10 miles from where I live‐-no toenado damage though. Trees have been uprooted and a person was helicopter-rescued from the river. There has been a major sewage spill into the ocean UGH! All of this from rain and wind.
Iris
1 -
Carl, are you all right? Our weatherman just said there is a tornado emergency in southwest Missouri. There are still fires burning northwest of here. Wind speeds still around 40 mph. Wind shift in the morning from northwest. Hope is all well with you and your family.
0 -
We are fine, Lorita, thanks for asking. The tornadoes passed about 10 miles east of us, and we were home before the blinding rain thanks to good weather forecasting. But it has been fire and rain (apologies to James Taylor).
We had haircut appointments so we drove into town about 2 PM. The wind (nothing like Amarillo but bad enough) was moving the cars and trucks around enough to slow traffic and had blown down a power line where the State highway crosses I-44 at the north edge of town. The traffic signals were out, the grass in the median was on fire, and the highway construction crew was running around rescuing their tools. Everyone was courteously taking turns through the thick smoke on the overpass and we made it into town without incident, but DW found an oak leaf in her purse that blew in while we were walking across the parking lot at the Clip Joint. We got haircuts, ate an early dinner in town, and made it home in time to watch the tornadoes and brush fires (with a couple of house fires) on the evening news. Some of the small towns to the east of us had property damage but no one killed so far as I know.
SW Missouri is having its first ever "extreme" fire warning, due to dryness and wind. With the climate changing, we are having lots of firsts, here and everywhere. The fire alert isn't over, because the wind is rattling my shutters and will dry out the rain by tomorrow morning. The firefighters are begging us to burn NOTHING and to call if we see even small fires.
It's almost midnight and I'm going to bed. Happy pi day, friends.

No eclipse for us - only clouds and rain. Kind of the story of my life with astronomical events.
I'm been looking at the weather — I hope all of you are doing okay. I saw photos of the dust in Texas, just unbelievable. I've been hearing about Oklahoma too — be careful!
Iris - tornadoes in L.A.?! Yikes! Be careful.
Carl - there's some crossover between the steampunk and goth sub-cultures. I like the steampunk look and every once in awhile I'll go with a steampunk look if I'm out at a club. One of the funniest ways I've heard steampunk described is "when goths discover brown." 😄
Lorita - I'm not sure how I missed your post about your cow and her baby. How very sad.
San Francisco isn't all that scary, in spite of the news stories. If you go to the tenderloin, okay, yes, it's scary there. I don't go anywhere near there. But the Castro? The Haight? Not so scary. You'd be fine.
Zetta - I didn't know that you're from California! For quite some time I'd go to Sacramento twice a year when our organizations (the various civil liberties organizations) would meet with legislators and/or their staffs. Because of that, I've gotten to know Sacramento. I'm from Southern California, myself.
Speaking of Peggy, I had lunch with her friend M today, and then we went to put flowers in the vase on her niche. After that I took JeriLynn's advice and I took a box of See's candies and a thank you note to the staff at Peggy's memory care facility. I thought they did a great job of taking care of Peggy, and I've always meant to say 'thank you.' It was the first time I'd been back to that place since Peggy passed away, so visiting was a bit strange.

That's right - today was Pi Day! We had breakfast with friends today and that was the first thing out of all of our mouths - Happy Pi Day!

Good morning
Nice to hear you are feeling better JerriLynn. It will be nice to start growing again won’t it?
HB hope you, DH and son were able to enjoy a quiet peaceful birthday meal.
Judith I noticed a few trees here are showing signs of leaves starting.
Beth your husband was able to fix downspout. Nice to hear that. Hope it means he continues to slowly improve.
woke up to low 60s this morning. I heard it raining and I heard hail. There was some lightning and thundering, but it was just ordinary. But I think we’re continue to have this throughout the day today. Hopefully I don’t have to get out and go anywhere.
