Here's everything we need to know about the "blood worm moon" - hopefully we'll all get to see it. There's always clouds in the PNW.

Mint, that chicken recipe sounds delish!

Seems like I've read that people and pets are allergic to dander and dust because we are allergic to dust mites, the tiny (like invisible) arachnids that eat it. Dust mites are why you are supposed to vacuum your mattresses every month or so, and why dust smells "dusty."

GG, thanks. I was thinking the eclipse was Friday night, not Thursday night, so I would have missed it. It will be at max at about 1:00 AM Friday in Missouri, which is what threw me off. "Blood Worm Moon" sounds like a title for a horror novel, but that's OK.

Eagle, I have pain in my shoulders, and sometimes I can hear bones grinding against one another. X-rays show I have zero cartilage where a young man has a half inch, so there's nothing I can do about it except exercise with rubber bands and avoid heavy work. I put my sledgehammer, axe, and some other tools in the garage sale a couple of years ago, just to avoid being tempted to use them. I guess old age means 90 days of hard work is NOT going to put us back in shape.

    Morning,

Well, the visit with Boogie and the babies went about how I expected it would. I tried everything. She isn't interested in the babies at all, even headbutted Peanut, tossing him away. It's a little crazy to be aggravated and disappointed in an animal's behavior but here we are and I am. But for the big hawk that roosts nearby I would just put them in the fenced backyard, and somebody has got to teach them how to be a goat (?). I've been up since 3 am stewing about a plan. Babies are awake but quiet, they usually wait until around 6am before they start to holler for a bottle, lol.

The view of the moon out my west facing office window is absolutely gorgeous. Supposed to be in the 70's and sunny today. Rain moves in tomorrow and strong storms for the weekend. I'm saving tax work for the rainy days.

DH's Cardiology appointment resulted in adding another blood pressure medicine. And, thanks to me, a food log for the next month to see where we need to change habits for him to lose weight. He's a big boy and has been told to lose weight. So, I brought it up in the appointment. He wasn't real happy with me for doing that but I keep telling him if he loses weight, we can probably ditch some of the medication. And there is a strong history of diabetes and stroke in his family, so I kept pushing.

Our Beaver is back and has been hard at work. He has constructed not one but two dams in the overflow outlet of the pond, lol. DH will be out there today to open the dams in anticipation of the expected rain. It's kind of funny, but not.

Our across the road neighbor gifted DH with eggs yesterday, almost 2 dozen. We already had that many on the kitchen counter, so I will be passing the gift along to my Grands.

Well, let's get this day started. Wishing you a good one!

Lorita, Ferns naturalize/spread and they would fill in and be lovely on the side of the house. Hostas are nice too and pretty easy to grow. Those aren't shrubs, but some shrubs you might like and have success with include weigela (dwarf), boxwood, red twig dogwood; I'm sure these are others. Many of the shrubs will say full sun or part shade. Part shade and deep shade would not be the same, though. Part shade is also defined as

"four to six hours of direct sun per day but most of that should come in the morning hours when the sun's rays are less intense. We say that plants which prefer part shade enjoy “cool sun”, meaning direct sun in the morning or evening and protection from the hot midday sun."

That being said a mix of ferns, trillium, Jack in the pulpit, shooting star and Dutchman's breeches would be attractive and easy maintenance.
