Here's everything we need to know about the "blood worm moon" - hopefully we'll all get to see it. There's always clouds in the PNW.

Mint, that chicken recipe sounds delish!

Seems like I've read that people and pets are allergic to dander and dust because we are allergic to dust mites, the tiny (like invisible) arachnids that eat it. Dust mites are why you are supposed to vacuum your mattresses every month or so, and why dust smells "dusty."

GG, thanks. I was thinking the eclipse was Friday night, not Thursday night, so I would have missed it. It will be at max at about 1:00 AM Friday in Missouri, which is what threw me off. "Blood Worm Moon" sounds like a title for a horror novel, but that's OK.

Eagle, I have pain in my shoulders, and sometimes I can hear bones grinding against one another. X-rays show I have zero cartilage where a young man has a half inch, so there's nothing I can do about it except exercise with rubber bands and avoid heavy work. I put my sledgehammer, axe, and some other tools in the garage sale a couple of years ago, just to avoid being tempted to use them. I guess old age means 90 days of hard work is NOT going to put us back in shape.

    Morning,

Well, the visit with Boogie and the babies went about how I expected it would. I tried everything. She isn't interested in the babies at all, even headbutted Peanut, tossing him away. It's a little crazy to be aggravated and disappointed in an animal's behavior but here we are and I am. But for the big hawk that roosts nearby I would just put them in the fenced backyard, and somebody has got to teach them how to be a goat (?). I've been up since 3 am stewing about a plan. Babies are awake but quiet, they usually wait until around 6am before they start to holler for a bottle, lol.

The view of the moon out my west facing office window is absolutely gorgeous. Supposed to be in the 70's and sunny today. Rain moves in tomorrow and strong storms for the weekend. I'm saving tax work for the rainy days.

DH's Cardiology appointment resulted in adding another blood pressure medicine. And, thanks to me, a food log for the next month to see where we need to change habits for him to lose weight. He's a big boy and has been told to lose weight. So, I brought it up in the appointment. He wasn't real happy with me for doing that but I keep telling him if he loses weight, we can probably ditch some of the medication. And there is a strong history of diabetes and stroke in his family, so I kept pushing.

Our Beaver is back and has been hard at work. He has constructed not one but two dams in the overflow outlet of the pond, lol. DH will be out there today to open the dams in anticipation of the expected rain. It's kind of funny, but not.

Our across the road neighbor gifted DH with eggs yesterday, almost 2 dozen. We already had that many on the kitchen counter, so I will be passing the gift along to my Grands.

Well, let's get this day started. Wishing you a good one!

Lorita, Ferns naturalize/spread and they would fill in and be lovely on the side of the house. Hostas are nice too and pretty easy to grow. Those aren't shrubs, but some shrubs you might like and have success with include weigela (dwarf), boxwood, red twig dogwood; I'm sure these are others. Many of the shrubs will say full sun or part shade. Part shade and deep shade would not be the same, though. Part shade is also defined as

"four to six hours of direct sun per day but most of that should come in the morning hours when the sun's rays are less intense. We say that plants which prefer part shade enjoy “cool sun”, meaning direct sun in the morning or evening and protection from the hot midday sun."

That being said a mix of ferns, trillium, Jack in the pulpit, shooting star and Dutchman's breeches would be attractive and easy maintenance.

    @Lorita

Regarding plants, Beth mentioned some lovely options. What is your soil like? Sandy, loam, clay? Drainage? How much rain do you get? Are you willing to commit to regular watering if you don't get sufficient rain and for the first year while shrubs and trees are getting established?

Eastern red bud is a nice tree for partial shade that tolerates dry soil once established. It's even pretty.

Thanks, Beth and HB. There are lots of red bud trees but they m oostas there, Bethwould be too bug . We have tried red bud and tomirrowbandbrakebthem diwnnto console here with no luck. If vennirthnifnhere.brushnpilebtgey gthe heavenly bamboo comes out and three sprouts they would work by the house because they don't get too big or could be cut back. I think we have tried hostas but they didn't live but one year.

I just came in from getting dead limbs out of the yard. Threw them.over the fence and will put them in the PU tomorrow and take them down to the brush pile they have north of the barn. I can tell my balance isn't what it used to be. I saw a little rabbit run away when I moved a stick -he was hidden in the grass.

Billy came over to the fence to see what I was doing. Put my hand out and he smelled it, had on gloves so guess he was curious. He is really big and pretty, just like his dad. His mother was a black white faced cow but he is all black.

So, Oklahoma now has measles cases. Guess we need to take Vit. A and cod liver oil as per RFK, Jr. Guess I got the vaccine when I was young but did have measles, not sure about the three day kind. I sit here watching what is going on and shake my head in disbelief.

JeriLynn, looks like you have three babies to care for. I/we raised three little heifers a few years ago. When they got bigger but still on the bottle I had to feed them through the gate because they got stronger and rambunctious. Before that I used three bottle holders. I loved doing it. I do miss the hands on contact with the girls.

Better stop and feed the Pyrenees. Mint, do you plan on growing a lot of vegetables this year? I remember planting seeds in the garden in March when it was so windy we had to bend over and place each seed in the ground to keep it from blowing away. Gardening is hard work but the reward is great in seeing things grow and enjoying the bounty.

Enjoy your day. Ron, how are you today?

Judith, I think the trees would be too big next to the house but they would be pretty. How nice you have that white bud tree he planted for you. On Honor Heights Drive the street leading up to the VA Hospital, one house has white and pink dogwoods that are pretty. There are many red buds and dog woods gets growing wild in the woods but not around here. Really pretty when they're blooming.

Per the CDC, those of us older adults who had measles as a child, have life-long immunity. I hope this is correct.

    @Lorita

There was no measles vaccine when you were a child. The first version available was rolled out in 1963; people born 1957 or before as assumed to have had it as a child, and as Iris said, would have life-long immunity.

David , I'm jealous. That looks so good. My favorite kind of cookie.. I had German measles which I think is rubella. Is that right Iris? I don't know why I had. Whay kind of measles is it that is going around?

FedEx just delivered my air purifier. How do you tell if they are working? My WM order was delivered. I ordered 11 items and got five, one was the smallest head of cauliflower I have ever seen. Feel sorry for the boy who brought the things! Called WM.com and they did a refund for the items I didn't get plus the cauliflower so all is well. Now to reorder. First-time I have ever had a problem.

When I started a job with a hospital, they drew blood titers to see if we had immunity to measles, rubella, and others - probably mumps and chicken pox and hepatitis. I was immune to all; if I had not been I would have been required to have the vaccines before I could work there. I had the hepatitis vaccine but those other diseases I mentioned, I had them all.

David your cookie looks fantastic! We had a great meal tonight. Hubby grilled ribeye steaks and I roasted brussels sprouts. Mmmmm.

Have a good night's rest. Beth

Fuddrucker's is a great place. Our Fuddrucker's closed so I haven't had it in a long time, but I really liked it. M&M cookies and ice cream, YUM!

Measles is very contagious and can be a serious illness, leading to pneumonia, miscarriages, etc. I think I'd ask my doctor about getting the vaccine if I hadn't had the disease in childhood.

All of the bus drivers and half the clients at adult day care are out with flu. I got my taxes done today, the tax man still has a throat tickle but is over the flu. Glad DW and I had the vaccine, and the prophylactic meds we took after visiting DS and finding out later that he had flu. DS still has a cough, but I think it is more due to heavy smoking than flu, as he feels fine otherwise.

Saw on the news today that it has been five years since the first case of Covid was reported at a Springfield hospital, on 3/12/20. That was a mess. One hospital set up a temporary building in the parking lot to screen possible Covid cases, similar to the tents that housed polio patients in the early 1950s. My mother was one of the March of Dimes volunteers who collected money door-to-door for polio research. She was scared to death that one of her children would get it, like the little girl who lived in the house behind us who caught polio and was crippled by it. When the polio vaccine came out, there was a big event downtown. Roy Rogers made an appearance, and all the kids lined up to get shots.

Hmm. My husband and I are trying to figure out what, if anything, we need to do about the measles. I'm pretty sure I had measles as a child, but I don't remember what kind. I'm pretty sure I got vaccinated when I became school-age. Same with my guy - but he's 5 1/2 years younger than me, so he probably should get a booster? I'm going to call my doctor and find out what she recommends.

    good morning

I always enjoy a good chili dog. Think I’d like that ice cream sandwich too.

measles is one of the most easily spread illnesses there is. It is spread by respiratory droplets and they remain in air for 2 hours. Yes wearing a good mask is protective. Measles infect your immune cells and this damages them. There are the immediate effect as already mentioned. THEN the damage partially wipes out your immune systems memory to certain infections. This leaves you more susceptible to getting those diseases for two or three years. There is a very simple solution. I believe I had measles. Think i remember waking up one morning and looking at my sister ho I shared a bed with and she had red spots all over her. Then I realized I had them too. I have no idea if i had vaccine. My parents weren't antivaxxers, for which I am thankful. I hope people soon wake up to the fact that the disease diseases themselves are not benign.

Carl, I may be wrong so if someone disagrees, I hope they speak up. But I do not feel that berry bushes would do good on the north side of the house. Don’t think there would be enough sunshine.

I saw the beautiful moon again this morning.

    Good morning front porch friends!

Still not getting out much, just haven't felt like it. Did see the neurosurgeon Tuesday and was told two of the disk in my neck was real bad. He wants my primary care and cardiologist to see me and let him know my risk factor before discussing options. In the meantime for me to be extremely cautious about falling and have the injection in my neck to help with pain.

Im still doing the home health monitoring where I take my vitals and the machine sends the results directly to the VA. I'm also scheduled for the pulmonary function test next Tuesday and the pulmonologist later that day.

Not fun being a senior citizen!

Good morning my porch friends. I think I wore myself out yesterday! I changed out both of our inside trees. The tree in the den is Springish with colorful large eggs, bunnies and paper flowers. There are also carrots and little tiny carrots. It's quite a colorful tree. Then the formal dining room tree is equally as colorful, but its decorated with tulips, wisteria, daisies, and jonquils. It seems like something else but I can't remember! I mumbled to myself while decorating them, but I will say, now completed, they both look nice. They make both of us smile so there is that!

Lorita today's the day before our ridiculous winds come back. They are saying we'll have sustained 40mph winds for 24 hr or more with 60mph gusts. I'm going to take all of the patio umbrella's down this morning. Then make sure everything else is secure in the yard. We've never had winds like this and I don't much care for it.

Time for our Zoom. Back later. Y'all be safe.

Morning, its a beautiful morning with no wind right now. Eagle, I really dread the winds tomorrow. I so hope everyone is uber careful about burning or rather not burning even today.

I need to pick up the limbs I threw over the fence and get them down to the brush pile today.

. Been looking at measles information. Measles, rebella, , rubeola, German measles, three early measles. How are we supposed to know what we had when we were young. I can't even find what kind is causing the outbreak.

Ron, good to see you posting. Just keep hanging in there like you are, things will get better. I'm glad you have the VA there to help.

My trees are budding, elm, maple, etc. I have one maple that is always late so nothing there. I noticed the Bradford pears along the driveway are budding, even saw a little bit of white in the buds.

All the girls are out front in the sun this morning. Pastures are getting greener by the day and the birds aren't eating as much, even had feed left in two feeders so guess they're finding something - hope it isn't grasshoppers. Gosh, I hope we don't have them again this year.

Everyone, enjoy the pretty day. I hope I remember to look at the moon tonight.

    Good morning everyone,

I think I finally hit the wall yesterday. Nauseated, belly pain, other belly issues, groggy. So I stayed on the couch or in the bed all day. Woke up at 3am again. Got up, did some tax work, fed babies, went back to sleep. I feel ALMOST human at the moment.

It has been a year since we closed the Shop. FIL died last May. Dear Aunt now has dementia. We are so busy all the time. Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork and now taxes (his, mine, Shop and FIL) and baby goats. I still have ashes in my closet waiting on Arlington to call to schedule FIL's burial. I think I hit the wall. Physically and emotionally. So, I'm gonna rest today. And be lazy.

Y'all have a good day and stay safe.

Sorry, jeriLynn, you do need to rest more. Things do pile up on us before we know it. I think we believe one more thing won't matter and we keep adding. I know when I start doing something I think just one more weed or one more limb, etc. Test today and try to trim down all you do.

You are right, Ron, getting old isn't a lot of fun. It's nothing like the stories in the AARP magazine about oldsters running marathons and dancing all night. We're up all night, sometimes, but not to dance.

I'm off to visit a memory care center. Nice afternoon for a drive, anyway.

Zetta, it came through and I thought it was so cute. Just forgot to tell you - sorry. What kind of dog is it? Really pretty.

I just finished loading the long, 8 ft. And wide PU bed with the limbs. Then took them down to unload. It took an hour and half and it was hot. I got up in the bed okay to get the leaves and little sticks out but getting up on my feet wss another thing. We have a bed liner that has ridges and that didn't feel good on my knees. Glad that's done.but there are two trees that have died and fallen over in the garden. Can't tackle those.

The Bradford pears are beginning to bloom around the meadow and north end of pond and other places on the farm. I think I will find a small one of those and plant it in the yard. They make pretty trees with blooms in the Spring. We will see how that goes.

We have a big Hack berry tree at each end of the carport and another by the diesel tank and so far they aren't doing anything. Some of the limbs look whitish on the ends. Scares me for them.

Gotta rest a bit. The groceries that didn't get here yesterday are coming at 4. Darwin raid he was going to take it easy today. Yesterday he rebuilt a corral made of gates that had fallen apart. Those gates are heavy. I doubt he's resting much. He is an active almost 86 year old.

It is a most beautiful warm Spring day without wind. Guess we will pay for it tomorrow with high winds. Do not like those days.

WINDY tomorrow-:\hold onto your hats!! Went out to fill the water tank in the lot and there was a cow in there! . She came over to me and let me pet her . It was one of mine so knew me.

She has calved and hasn't passed the afterbirth. I closed the gates and went in to check.. Didn't wear my sunglasses so couldn't really see. Went back with a flashlight and followed her into the barn. She went straight to her baby wanting me to see it and maybe to help .Guess it was stillborn but she is staying with her baby. I talked with her a while, always do that when they lose a baby.

Called and left a message for Mike who wss in surgery. Hope he comes and take s care of her. Even when a cow loses her baby she will stay with it for days. I feel so sorry for her. One of the shutter doors has lost a hinge and is hanging so called Gary and he will fix it. Sad day.

Well, the MC looks like a nice place. It's on a hilltop at the edge of a small town 20+ miles from our home and has a nice view if you like pastures and cropland.

Windy here too, tomorrow, maybe hail, tornadoes, whatever. I have given up having anything permanent on the patio. The wind destroyed the gas grill and the glider, I got tired of retrieving the chairs from the neighbor's yard, and I gave the umbrella away. I had the umbrella weighed down with 300# of sand, which now leavens the clay soil in my yard, because it didn't keep the umbrella from blowing over. I can have outdoor plants by putting them in concrete pots. Clay pots blew over and broke, and terracotta pots went to the bottom of the hill.

I'm sorry for the cow, Lorita. We lost a baby in '73 and I feel for her.

Lorita. That dog is a White German Shepherd. The story I told was about the kitty on the bed, with the purple flower cone on her head and what had happen to her. She's fine now. Thanks for asking. Hugs
