Good morning prayers 🙏 for my front porch friends that the storms have affected. Everything around me is staying above and below me.

Beware the Ides of March.
Beth— The slide in range in that video is the one mom has. I did show it to her, but she can't get behind me ruining the look by removing the bezels. She bought her appliances because of how they looked. LG had a recall a while back for a similar issue in an electric model. I did find some replacement knobs in steel that require a 2-handed sequence to use but I didn't bookmark it and now I can't find it using google or bing. I'll try my iPad's Safari browser later. They were pricey but mom thought it was a better look. We did install a leak detector and move some of the routinely used items from that part of the counter space. She had her electric kettle/tea station there.
Ron— It's great that the monitor is working as intended. Is the data reporting automatic or do you need to report it somehow?
Jerilynn— This is why I don't get sucked into the eagle nest cams. Nature isn't pretty to watch sometimes. It always devolves into an avian Game of Thrones.
Lorita, Iris, Judith, Carl and any I missed in harm's way— I do hope you weather this storm safely and with minimal inconvenience. The pictures coming out of the storms are otherworldly. The rain and wind will be here tomorrow along with the winds. We've had burn restrictions here, too. There has been an uptick in brush fires of late; the municipal complex is across the street and I've heard more sirens than usual. Friday, they had to evacuate DS's old nursery school for one. Parents had to collect their children at the nearby pharmacy. Washington Crossing Historic Park is just across the street and fortunately the historic buildings and replica Durham boats were spared.
Lady Z— I hope you get good news at the dentist. Speaking of dentists, I got a cryptic call from my old dentist's office. He sold his practice to a younger dentist with a plan to stay on part time. He's moved on and his wife is discretely notifying his older patients. There's got to be some backstory there. DH and I have seen him since he graduated— DH was lab partners with his dad back-in-the-day. The dad always invited DH for holidays dinners when he first moved to the area, so he knew the dentist back in high school and even tutored him in chemistry. I'll swap mom's April appointment to the new office.
Gothic G— I love the steampunk quote about brown. So true. The railroad where DH works attracts a couple steampunk themed weddings and birthday parties every year. They have a working vintage steam engine and vintage passenger cars. DS shares pictures— always in sepia finish. Their outfits are amazing as a rule.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Dinner was great. We did include mom; she'd be crestfallen otherwise. She got to keep the doggie bags and is happy about that. We even went back to her house for birthday pie— chocolate crust with box pudding and whipped cream in a can. I offered to make a fancier recipe I found in NYT Cooking but he was suspicious of homemade. Boy likes things that come out of boxes and bags.
I'm catching up on laundry and need to run to the store later to buy things for DS's lunch box as he's working all weekend on St. Patrick's Day "Speakeasy Excursions". He has spring break this week so he's happy.
Dinner with friends tonight at the German place which should be fun. Mom's meds just arrived, they seem extra heavy this week. I better go take a look at them.
Be safe out there.

Morning, I haven't watched he news this.morning so hope all The awful fires are out. Thry were mostly between I44, the highway between Tulsa and OKC and I 35. The fires were in town burning houses, apartmen houses and I think a Church or two but they may have been saved .
Fire companies from all over were helping. One town where this happened was Mannford, not far from Tulsa.. We just had very strong winds but it was scary, a fire could have started anywhere. Power was out in many places. Just fed thr.birds and I can smell a little smoke.
The girls are all out front and there are three cows down were he dragged the baby. One of their family is gone. Mike said the baby was deformed but it was still her baby. I have seen them gather around a cow or baby who died, just like they were having a funeral. The mother cow does mourn. If a person has never been around cattle and observed their aciions they wouldn't think this is true but it is.
I remember a couple of years ago I saw a cow behind the barn so went out and I could tell something was wrong. She started walking away and I followrd.. She led me way down in the pasture and stopped where her aborted baby laid. She just wanted me to know. I stayed with her s while and talked to her and she came back to the barn with me. Forgot to mention the baby was tiny didn't even have hair. I covered it with dirt before we left . I can tell so many stories. Any rancher has these stories..
What is Pl Day?

Morning. Thank goodness the winds have subsided. Everything is now covered in yellow pollen, ugh. I'm going to run the sprinkler system to clear / clean the grass off. Then I'll have to power wash the entire porch and contents. This certainly was not on my agenda for today. I don't think it will be totally completed. We have a birthday party at 11:00 which cuts into the day.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday. Let's be safe.

We survived a wild day yesterday in OK. Thankfully the trees were bare so no real damage there.

Still some wind this morning , from the north so cooler. Glad yesterday is over. Just checked the eagle cam and Jackie got up off the nest and I only saw her feeding one baby. Is that right? What happened to the others?

Lorita —
Pi Day is a funny math thing. The first three numbers in Pi are 3.14 and yesterday was 3/14, so it became Pi Day. Here's a wikipedia page on it. We'd usually makes pies on that day. That page references the San Francisco Exploratorium - which is a very cool, hands on science museum.
I'll be back later.

Thanks, GG, makes sense but never heard about it.
Watching MSNBC and they're showing the damage in Missouri from tornados last night. I think it said West of St. Louis, 17 people lost. Now it's moving toward Ohio. Mint, be careful. I think we're supposed to have.high winds a coupke.of days next week. Fire danger will go on for 3-3 weeks until things get greener, then come the tornados. Spring in Oklahoma is beautiful but scary.
The daffodils are beyond beautiful. Yesterday the ones on the south side of the house were almost laying down from the wind but today they're upright. I found another variety, white with a pale yellow center. Lots of King Alford, then smaller, earlier ones and miniature ones about the size of a nickel. The Naked Ladies are doing well. Their foliage comes up and grows this time of year, then dies down and in the summer the stalks come up and flower, kind of like lillies. I think they may also be called Surprise Li!lies.
There are more dead limbs in the yard to pick up. Need to look for that Bradford tree to plant. The Bradford Pears are beautiful this morning, almost in full bloom along the driveway, the road. West and North side of meadow and pasture, in the West pasture and North side of pond. All of these thanks to a neighbor who had a couple of trees years ago. Should really thank the.birds, too.
About out of power so will stop for now.

HB, the monitor is similar to a laptop. You plug it in and it tells you what to do. Besides the monitor, they send you whatever you need. In my case it's only blood pressure and oxygen level. When you first turn it on it ask several question; are you more short of breath than usual today, are you coughing more than usual today, etc. Once you take all your readings, it automatically sends it directly to the VA nurses. My understanding is it can also check blood sugar, weight and I don't know what else.
Hope all is well on the porch today!
Zetta, I love not having to put more of that fixeodent on my dentures.

Hello Front Porch Friends.
There are so many of you experiencing bad weather right now, your all in my prayers 🙏 ❤️ we are still dealing with some wind, but not as bad as some of you are.
GothicG. I was born in Sacramento, and stayed there till I was 35. I lived all over the Sacramento area. That was nice of you to take candy to the care facility, I'm sure they enjoyed that, and appreciated the caring thought behind it. I also miss the sweet caregivers that I got to know, when Dan, was in MC.
HB. I hate it when you have to change Dentist or Doctors. With my move to Arizona, I had to change them all, wasn't so bad cause I found ones I like. I just miss the new ones not remembering me and my history. My new dentist has seen me enough to know me and all my history 🙃 and by the way I also like things that come in boxes, bags and cans.
Lorita. I bet you do have alot of sad stories, I don't think I could ever take care of cows like you do. When I was growing up, at one point I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian, then decided there was no way I could do that.
Ron. Thanks for sharing that with me. My bottom dentures will have post, my top dentures will have to be sealed in, I'm not looking forward to to either one.
Stay safe all of you. Hugs Zetta

Last year my travel club ran a trip to San Diego on Pi Day (3/14). We went to a restaurant that served chicken pot pies then drove all around San Diego and stopped at another restaurant for dessert pies. We visited Balboa Park and Point Loma. We visited a memorial statue to Bob Hope and the military.
We visited the famous "Kissing Statue".
Our tour guide was not aware that Pi referred to the mathematical symbol, he thought Pi Day was a holiday for actual pies! Fun was had by all!
We are having wind gusts now. One moment the air is still, then in a few moments it's windy. But we've had rain, so I hope that means that the fire danger is over.
I saw a photo of the nest, it was covered in snow. Where the eagles are is in the mountains and it snows when we get rain. I don't want to think about what happened.

JeriLynn and Mint, praying that you all are okay tonight and the storms passed you by. The weather still shows severe weather in your areas. We have fire weather warnings Monday and Tuesday but hopefully the wind won't be as strong. I need to try to cut back the dead holly from the porch but can probably just cut it shorter. Be safe tonight. Enjoyed our visit, Sandy.
Good.night, everyone..

Late night check in on my porch peeps. We've got a lot of ugly weather out there tonight. Praying for everyone's safety.

I'm hoping that all of you with severe weather in your path are all okay.

Thank all of you for your prayers and wishes. I am picking up artificial flowers that blew downhill from the cemetery while people 35 miles east have debris fields where their homes were, and I feel pretty blessed. We are getting a snow/rain mix tonight with a low about 31 degrees, so the lovely tulip trees may be less so tomorrow. The blooms freeze easily.
GG, another fun fantasy thing in which people dress in Victorian garb is cowboy action shooting, a target shooting game using guns like lever action rifles and single action revolvers and wearing 19th century costumes. Steampunk bleeds over into that sometimes too, with shooters wearing steampunk clothing. I saw a man on the internet with pressure gauges and a leather butt cuff on his lever action shotgun, and instead of a deer or buffalo carved on the butt cuff, he had H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu. 😎 I love roleplay, and I would probably be involved in Steampunk, CAS, or both if I had time.
Iris, thanks for the photo of the Kissing Statue. It reminds me that we went to San Diego once. We saw the Spruce Goose, Howard Hughes' enormous plywood transport plane, and toured the Queen Mary, a cruise ship that was armed and used as a troop transport ship during WW II. We could still see the bolt holes on the wooden deck where the guns were mounted. My father sailed to England from New York on that ship in 1944, back when everyone pretty much all Americans were antifascist.
My barber told me he is cooking an 8# corned beef for St. Patrick's Day. I guess he's a pretty good cook, he is always telling me about things he has made. His ex was vegetarian for a while, and he made a meat substitute by running black beans and brown rice through the blender and reddening it with paprika. He said people could eat it without knowing they weren't eating meat. Sounds good to me. I like rice and beans as is, so I'd like it disguised as meat too.
Take care of yourselves. I hope we can get back to the pretty part of Spring soon.

Good morning,
All is well with me and mine. I hope it is with you and yours. A set of grands came to spend the weather day with us, so we had a big supper; 2 baby goats, two dogs, two cats and an 8-year-old for entertainment. Grandson in law did the dishes.
It's still dark yet, but yesterday the front pond overflowed under the driveway drain, front pasture was full of water, the side pastures all drained to the back pond which overflowed to a mostly dry creekbed (except for the free beaver work). Water standing in the middle pasture. The goats/outside dogs were in the barn and dry. It would appear all the hard work DH has put in to work the ground paid off. He was proud. Me too.
I did manage to get my tax papers together. Tomorrow will work FIL's and then be done with that for the moment. My appointment with the accountant is the 24th, so I will meet my goal to be ready a week early.
The babies are now on 3 bottles a day, 2 cups at a time. They learned to jump on the couch yesterday! This is both good and not so good news, lol. I got the small portable fence I ordered, so I can put them right by the patio for a bit of play. I can see them from the living room there. They slept in their crates in the garage last night. And I got the floors mopped (again) after everyone went home. The Odoban is actually better than the Pinesol HB. Thanks for the tip!
OK, up from here. You all have a good day, and I'll see ya later.

Good morning
Ron the monitor is interesting.
Lorita the weather stayed calm here. Will be nice when others check in and let us know how they are doing.
Carl they are giving possible snow here tonight but 45 Monday, so it should melt without me shoveling maybe.

Morning, so glad to hear that everyone is.okay with no damage. Scary stuff this weather lately. Now we have fire weather with high wins and low.humidity for the next three days. Wind up to 40 mph, less than last week but still too strong.
One,.big Althea that had died blew over in the wind. I tried to get it over a few days ago but couldn't. Need to get it and another one out of the yard. Had not thought about it until yesterday late about the dead holly across the front of the house. May call Bryon and see if he and his cousin might have time to.cut them.off this afternoon. He has had back trouble so hesitate but may check.
Watching morning news shows now but need to feed the birds. You all take care. Back later.

Good morning Front Porch Friends. Alls well in my neck of the woods. Be back later. Hugs Zetta

all OK here in OKC

Hello.
JeriLynn. Sounds like you got a lot of water. I would love to see a picture, of the babies on the couch. They sound so sweet.
Years ago before my DH and I met, he did a lot of roll playing. His group dressed up like cowboys 🤠 and put on shows of gun fights. I don't remember what the group was called but it was in Eureka, California.
There are only 2 babies in the nest right now, the moderators are saying the missing one is still in the nest, but no longer alive. Many different speculations, but no one knows for sure. It's getting pretty hard to watch, I'm thinking this might be my last year of watching 👀 😅
Take care, Hugs Zetta

Busy day here. We had six or seven tall holly bushes across the front of the porch. Drought and grasshoppers killed them so knowing I shouldn't have dry things around the house I broke them down as far as I could, maybe to 3 ft.. Then took the limbs and part of the big althea the wind blew over which was dead to the brush pile to unload. Took about three hours to do that. It took two loads. Bryon will come next weekend and cut the stumps out. I would like to have flower beds there but don't know if I can do it. Surely looks better.
I'm sorry about the little eagle. Looks like she would move it but she will soon. It said three little ones was unusual.
I dread the next two or three days because of high winds and fire danger. I wish you all could see the daffodils absolutely lovely. I think I spotted the small Bradford pear tree I may transplant where the magnolia used to be. It's along the driveway, about three tall and leafing out. Now if I can dig it up. .May wait til we get rain. I need a forsythia.
Good news thi s afternoon - Mike let Darwin's ranch go back and he was so worried. Today he released it to a man who had bought two grain bins a couple of years ago. Bins were still there. Said he had three offers in the last three days. So happy for him.

I'm glad you all seem to have survived the weather with only minor scrapes.
HB — Yes, beware the Ides of March, indeed. And for all things steampunk - is there any other color besides sepia? ;)
Zetta — I'm with you - I hate changing doctors and dentists. I hate changing so much that I actually kept my optometrist in San Francisco, the one I've been seeing since the early '90s! I only go in once a year, so it's not that hard to schedule. In fact, I'm going in tomorrow to pick up contact lenses.
Carl - that's great about HP Lovecraft/Cthulhu. There's a fun Lovecraftian cooperative board game, Arkham Horror (2nd edition). Maybe you've played it? It's set during Lovecraft's lifetime (the 1920s-30s). It's fun to role play the investigators as you play the game. I'm not sure the 2nd edition board game is still available, except for on eBay - everything I find leads to the third edition, which is nowhere near as fun. (probably way more info than you needed to know) 🙂
JeriLynn - I'm glad all is well with you guys. Pat on the back to your DH for all of his good work! And good for you to have all of your tax stuff ready. That's what I'll be working on when we get back home. Ahh, something to look forward to. Not really.
Lorita - here's hoping for no fires.
Today's been quiet. We both slept in and then tried a new brunch place - the latest restaurant in the "place of doom". This one particular space changes so rapidly. I'm not sure what it is about that space, but no matter what restaurant opens up, it doesn't last longer than a couple of years. I hope this latest restaurant makes it because it was really good. The guy behind the counter proudly told us that they've been in the space since June. Yay?
Tonight we're having dinner with my cousin - the former roller derby girl. She's a tough guy! Looking forward to seeing her and hearing some great stories from her. I get all of the family gossip from her.

Just got an emergency alert on my phone. Armed and dangerous guy somewhere in the county north of us, just across the road. Doubt he would leave the highway and get on dirt roads.
Watching a really good show called The Americas. First hour was about the plains. Now it's about the Gulf Coast.
Goodnight, everyone. Sweet dreams!
The news just reported the man they're looking for shot a policemen in Webber's Falls, way east of us. He's probably halfway across Arkansas by now.

Stay safe Lorita!

Lorita, from what I see on TV about the California fires etc., it looks like we should clear all the shrubbery from around our houses, living or dead, and replace any wood mulch with gravel. There are screens we can put over crawl space vents to keep embers out, too. PBS "Ask This Old House" did a show on how the new homes in Paradise CA are being built, and how to fireproof a house. You can probably find it on the PBS website.

GG, I haven't played a board game in years. DW can't play, and it seems most of my friends have died or moved away. Sounds like fun, though.

good morning
JeriLynn sounds like you got a lot of water, but thankfully it sounds like it didn’t do a lot of damage. We got quite a bit of the last couple of days too, but I’m thankful for all the rain we get we were in severe drought at the end of fall.
Lorita nice to hear that Darwin has people interested in helping him.

Today is not starting out on a Good note. I could not get the TV going one of the aids took about 10 minutes to make it work then I couldn't sut the water off ine the shower and there's the shower sounds like a machine gun in the wall. I hope my day gets bettrr.
