Participated in a study
We participated in this study today. My wife, who has MCI with Azlheimer's pathology, is very interested in participating in research and signed up for a couple of non-drug related opportunities. We both participated in this one. Pretty cool and easy and we earned some money for it too. Qualitative Analysis of the Content…

How to discern whether symptoms are due to dementia or other issues?
Hi all. My Dad is 88, lives in MC, diagnosed with mixed Alz/vascular. I tend to be a worrier. Over the past two or three months, he has shown progressive symptoms that worried me: He is sleeping more. He is skipping meals. I think he has lost some weight (about 7% of body weight). He's generally weaker and has gone from a…

Wrong PET Scan
For context, let me post a few paragraphs that I shared back on April 30th (with minor editing): … The dr then turned to me, noted that I had been quiet, and what could I add. I talked about DB's memory in terms of word finding and getting stuck mid sentence. I confirmed that this had been better since the Aricept, but it…

Good review article M1 receptor targeting
I came across this good review article from 2022 when I was looking for things to help my wife who is experiencing adverse effects from donepezil and rivastigmine. It’s a good review article of the progress being made to develop drugs that have less adverse effects. Doesn’t look like anything is coming on the market…

Strategies to distract dad with FTD when doing obsessive and repetitive things
Hello all, thank you in advance for reading this message and for any idea you may have. I'm looking for new ideas to distract my dad (with FTD) when he starts with his obsessive routines. Until a couple of weeks ago, he would still listen to me and trust me if I would offer an alternative, now he is solely focus on his…

Mixing up names.
For sake of discussion, we'll call youngest brother John and me Betty. DB's wife's car wouldn't start this morning, so she took his truck. When texting trying to explain this he first told me John had the truck. Between a followup call to him and younger brother I got the facts sorted out. Just a bit ago he texts with…

Feels like a series of endings and cannot find a good place anymore
I am sure there are several posts on this, but I feel like there is no end to what seems to be a constant unravelling of my parent's condition straight into the abyss. For those who are further up the road than me, did your life ever get back to anything resembling "normal"? I feel like a part of me, my enthusiasm and…

First-Time Poster Requesting Support
Hello to you all. This is my first time to post in the forum. I have been reading a few posts that may help me with my father. At his most-recent visit with his neurologist, we were told he was at stage 6B of Alzheimer's. We have been living with what we were told was dementia for several years, and the Alzheimer's…

Repetitive questions - early stages of dementia
Hi all, I’m new here. My MIL moved in with my husband, myself and our 5 children back in January. She was living in her van after selling her home. She has 2 other children that were aware of the living situation and lived close by but refused to help. We came from 3 hours away to get her and bring her back to live with…

NEED HELP
So........ I am concerned about the way my patient is being treated/punished/redirected (what ever you want to call it). She is 93 years old and has been diagnosed with Alzheimers approx. 4 years ago. I will jump right to the concerns I am having....... She is sometimes a bit bossy, rude, ungrateful....etc. So when she is…

Medication at assisted living
Mom was prescribed a cream for eczema to be given to her twice a day. Mom only uses it when she thinks she needs it. Staff tells me she is refusing it. When I talked with mom about this and tell her the doctor wants her to use this she tells me no one told me that. AL tells me they can’t force her to use it or take any…

How can we talk to my dad and help him understand he needs help - we're just starting this journey
My mom is now starting to show show signs of dementia after several years of memory loss and early stages of Alzheimer's. Which we knew was coming, but my brother and and I are recently learning more finally getting permission to access medical records. After talking to my mom's dr. I also learned that he has been…

ideal living situations?
DW was diagnosed with MCI two years ago, she is still pretty independent, driving well, etc. But that is changing as may be expected. We are both 78, in reasonably good health and pretty active for our age. One area of concern regards our future living situation. We live independently in our home of 50 years. I can see…

Resident is angry only at loved ones
I attend a family support group at a local dementia home (my Mom lived there for a year before she died.) A daughter and father have moved their mother/wife into a MC facility recently. She is angry at them & won't talk to them when they try to chat. The resident may be doing something enjoyable with staff, but when she…

Super fast decline to stage 7, what next?
I feel like I'm coming here with questions that I know don't have good/any answers, but I am really appreciating all of the shared knowledge and compassion in this forum. My mother has been on hospice for about a month and in a small MC since April. Moving into the MC seemed to trigger a speed run from late Stage 6 to late…

Caregiving when you have pretty severe mental health issues yourself
Hello. I do some caregiving for someone who is quickly declining. We mostly go for walks. I have severe depression and anxiety myself. I am also unfortunately an empath so her distress sticks to me for hours or more. When she says paranoid delusions about her primary caregiver, I am at a loss for how to respond. I am…

Denial
My elder with Alzheimer’s has no short term memory at all. Before Alzheimer’s she’d deny any problem like this anyway. Is it even worth the bother trying to get her to understand? Thanks!

Finally...
I finally got an answer for what I've been dealing with for the past few months. Actually, it's been longer than that, much longer. I had been complaining of shortness of breath on exertion and extreme fatigue and tired muscles. I've seen two sleep doctors for a diagnosis of sleep apnea as a cause of the extreme fatigue.…

Aggression and apathy
My grandmother is in an assisted living/nursing home. She has Alzheimer’s disease. She becomes physically aggressive with staff and scratches, hits, kicks, and tries to bite them. This is happening more often, which I believe is from the Alzheimer’s. Lately, my grandmother will just lay in her bed and pretend to sleep. She…

Qualifying for hospice
This is my first post since I joined this group months ago after DH was diagnosed and I’d really like input from others who have had similar experiences. Over the last 4-5 months he’s had a rapid decline physically. For a month or so, the decline was both cognitive and physical, but he had some improvement cognitively…

How big are your fiblets?
I realize this depends greatly on how much a PWD's reasoner is broken, but I think a fiblet is characterized in two ways: How big the topic is. i.e. saying that a dead person is alive (but moved far away) is big. The car (was sold off) is broken & awaiting parts is a medium sized topic (can be big in the mind of a PWD who…

Begging to get her out!!
This group has been soooo helpful in getting us to where we are now . We were finally able to take our 93 year old , mid stage Alzheimer to a semi-autonomous residence , the transition was smooth , she accepted the situation, admitting that she could not live alone anymore . After 5 days, all hell broke loose .. she is…

Cloth diapers?
A mobility issue has led to instantaneous urinary incontinence. I'm struggling with the environmental impact of adult diapers- used 4 overnight! We created more trash last night than the last 2 months combined. Has anyone used cloth diapers with their LO? Any other ideas?
