Enter Stage 8: our AD journey has ended
My amazing and beautiful DW passed away early this morning in her sleep. She looked peaceful as she left this earth. As prepared as I thought I was—heck, we’ve had hospice care for three months—I find myself shocked though not surprised. How odd the tricks our minds play. It hurts, deeply, knowing I will never see her…

Entering the 7th
My dw is moving a little faster down the road lately. She is almost double incontinent. She's sleeping more and she has times when she is just humped over unable to move her legs or straighten up. She complains a lot about her back pain, has lost about 20 pounds in 2 months not wanting to eat. She HAD gained about 35…

Cross posting - New stage realization. 7
Forum mates, I'm sharing here with fellow spouse/partner caregivers in case you aren't also in the other forum. It is a tough realization today that observed progression is undeniable and this stepdown feels especially ominous. Just sharing because it may help someone else, and because you all are the only ones who will…

Freaked out with the delusional behaviors
Hello my friends, My DH has entered a new phase and is having delusional behaviors especially at night and they are freaking me out!! How do others handle the night anxiousness and talking to other people in our room and house and telling me to watch out for that man on the other side of the bed??? (Just one example) I…

More slippage, more isolation
Almost hesitant to post this, as I'm thinking out loud. But I am saddened. We have had one couple that we have remained close to through this whole journey, they have been faithful visitors to my partner and are about the only outside contact she has besides me. And yet now I feel a shift, and they are slipping away, too.…

Alzheimers??

ChatGPT wrote me a poem
I'm playing with ChatGPT today. I asked it "write a poem about life with a spouse in memory care". Here's what it gave me. I'm a bit spooked by the AI part of it, but the poem is fantastic. In halls of softened shadows, where memories gently sway, A dance of love unfolding in the twilight's tender gray. A whispered vow…

IT'S BEEN AWHILE...
Hello to everyone, I've been reading many posts and responding sporadically, but wanted to reach out to all of you to let you know that you are in my thoughts daily. We had a funeral Mass for Bob last weekend, and a gathering back at our house. Our grand children all participated in the service-this was their first family…

Just need some prayers update
I posted the need for prayers a few weeks ago. My DH, 78 has Alzheimer's-Posterior Cortical Atrophy, diagnosed 2 years ago. Current Stage 5 going into 6. I had breast cancer in 2017 with radiation. Now changes caused the doctor to order an MRI which showed some skin issues, Ultrasound with was inconclusive, and yesterday…

Seemed to have found myself a quiet time.
My DW will shadow me everwhere but not only that she will never just be quiet and constantly is demanding my attention. I can't have a quiet moment. I've found when in my home office and at the computer she will sit just behind me but hardly ever makes a sound. She will just nod off for hours, talking in her sleep a tiny…

Christmas sadness
I just need to talk today. Put up my Christmas tree and little train, then got the rest of the Christmas decorations out. My DH was in one of those moods where everything I did was wrong and I lost it (not with anger but with tears). I pulled myself together and he got better and was helping me get the decorations up. Then…

My wife is 67 years old and has stage 4/5 mixed dementia (vascular & alzheimers). She also has juvenile diabetes (59 years) and is on an insulin pump. I hired a caregiver that watches her for 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. My DW continues to be mad at me for hiring the sitter. She says that I don't love anymore…

At what point in AD sre Adult Dry Services no longer appropriate?
My DH was going to a wonderful day care two days a week. He really enjoyed going and enjoyed all the activities and being around other people. He was going ther for about 5 months when he became mean and very grouchy. The ADS basically asked that he not return until he is medicated. Of course checked for UTI. Maybe he at…

Is my Husband Forgetting Me?
Today my DH asked me about our first date. Then he asked where did we meet?” He should remember both. When I told him he said “oh that’s right”. We have talked about it often. I know he loves me and things have been very good between us. What was the first sign you knew your LO was forgetting you?

Finances and Medicaid
One theme I've seen over and over in posts on this forum is needing help. So many of us are caring for our spouses at home. Others are looking at facilities but afraid it's going to financially ruin them. I've also seen people state that you have to be near poverty to qualify for Medicaid. That just isn't true. Our story:…

Asking for Help
My DH is in early to mid-stage 4. His only sibling (sister) is now in hospice with Alzheimer's and according to her son can't talk, walk, incontinent, etc. My question is: our nephew is wanting him to visit his sister in MC - My concern is that, at this stage, him seeing his sister could advance HIS disease. And my thought…

DH is driving me crazy. How do we cope?
I just found this site and need emotional support. Husband is no longer the man I married. He's become angry, critical, unreasonable. He asks for my help with his computer and won't accept what I tell him, stating that "you won't help me!" I'm trying my best to stay calm and show him what he's forgotten. But, he won't…

Taking a break, and needed info for Medication application
Hello friends. I haven't been online much for the last week or so. One of my daughters was visiting, and the subject turned to dementia. While we were talking, I became emotional about some of the things others here have, or are going through. Maybe part of it was because of our own experiences with dementia, or maybe it…
