Being useful
My dad takes pride in taking out the trash. He knows that Tuesday is trash day. We just got him a digital clock that has the day, date and time and the temperature on it in large print. He came into the kitchen with his coat off wanting to take out the trash before sunrise this morning. Then he came back out when it was…

Am I stepping back too far?
My brother-in-law moved in with us almost a year ago, after my mother-in-law passed away. We all moved into a 2-story house in May. Before Christmas, I went upstairs. My youngest daughter came upstairs but didn’t see me and went back downstairs. She went into my dad’s bedroom, the only one downstairs. I went downstairs,…

Moving resistant mom to MC, should I block cell phone?
Hey all, here's my situation: We are moving my mom into MC without her knowledge. We are considering suspending her cell phone or blocking most of the numbers. I'm curious to hear how others have handled this and how things turned out. Has it worked better to turn off the phone service? Or block all numbers and leave a…

Fixation on a person?
Hi. I'm brand new to this forum. I'm a 39 year old caregiver of a 83 year old. Her diagnosis is incomplete at this time. Now my question: She is constantly in fear that the rest if the family is trying to keep her from me and is obsessed with knowing where I am, even if I just go to the RR. I love her dearly and spend at…

Chewing and swallowing
My DH has a problem lately with chewing food. He chews things a few times and then washes them down with water. We had penne pasta with shrimp, olive oil, and herbs, all soft foods. Even after trying to convince him to chew longer before swallowing and not using the water to wash to food down, he continued. He must have…

Getting involved
I learned that it’s important to involve my dad in activities. So I setup his radio so he can listen to music when he’s tired of watching tv. I invited him to watch his games shows with me. I told him that I’m taking my girls to ride bikes and asked him to come along. First of all, my girls and I were in the back yard. I…

Paranoia & Accusations of Stealing
Anyone else deal with this? If so, what works for you? This is the biggest issue with my mom. she has accused cleaning people and care companions of stealing - not to their faces; she makes the complaints to me, non stop. I've had to let people go because of her relentless accusations. She gets so angry. Hard to deal with.

We’ve found a great caregiver
I just wanted to pop in here and say that we’ve found a great caregiver for MIL. She’s 19! She has caregiver experience in a facility. She graduated with my son. I helped her enroll in two online college classes. I spent an afternoon discussing a history assignment with her. She plans to apply to a local nursing program in…

I can't do this any more
I can't do this any more. I thought it would get easier when I placed my LOs (yes two of them) into assisted living. It has not. In ways it is even harder. And I'm not talking only about the emotional part of placing them - I am physically exhausted too. My guess is that my mother is in stage 6, leaning towards stage 7.…
