Mom hating me and Nursing Home
My mom is 62, was diagnosed with Alzheimer recently, and I've been struggling dealing with her for the last 2 years. I never thought that her problems was from alzheimer because of her early age, but the moment she just couldn't turn on the TV or go to the bathroom properly I had a doctor see her, and than was the time the…

POA: Question about the document
Hello. I have POA for my Mom who has dementia. I am now pursuing POA for my brother who has early onset Alz. My other brother and I are a team for their care but I have POA as being an "administrator" is a strength of mine. On the Durable POA form there is a place after the list of powers being assigned that says " ON THE…

Am I making things worse?
Hi all. I am an overachiever by nature and I know that about myself. I took my mom to a neurologist today. It was recommended that she get exercise and do mental type activities. While we were out my mom also mentioned wanting to get a clock she could see to help her know the day, time etc. My mom and aunt live together…

Helping my mom cope with being a Dementia Caregiver.
I am hoping this place will bring in some great advice from people who have experience or to at least make me feel more at ease with the entire situation… My grandmother has early stage Alzheimers and my mother is her only child and therefore her sole caretaker. I live in Minnesota and they both live in Florida. Right…

POA with multiple designees
If there are three designees for medical and financial POA should we discuss decisions in advance? What scenarios should we plan for?

Naps and Confusion when waking
My 86 yr old father is in the middle stages of Alzheimers and had a brain bleed several weeks ago. We have noticed this week that when he wakes up from his nap (usually from noon to 1 pm) that he is confused and hallucinating (maybe from a dream he had)? Should we stop the naps? He sleeps very well at night for 10 hours.…

Security cameras(1)
I’d like a security system / camera to check on DH if I am in another part of the house, if I am outside doing yard work, or when I’m away from home and have a caregiver with DH. The system would have to be WI-FI capable, and optimally would allow easy two-way communication. Has anyone used Ring or Nest cameras for this…

PWD and Insulin Pump for Type I Diabetes
Hi everyone, Very concerned about my mom with dementia and Alzheimer's. She has Type 1 Diabetes and is on an insulin pump. She's got a Dex Com 6 sensor with it (a gadget that sets off an alarm if her blood sugar goes high or low). She's been uncontrollable with her eating lately and her blood sugar has been all over the…

Medical appointments
Hello! My mom has pretty advanced Alzheimer’s with behavioral disturbances. She is aggressive, combative, and wanders. We have been working for the past 3 months to find some type of medication combination to help make her more manageable. She lives with me and other family including my dad. At home, we do our best to…

Doing Better But Need Plan B
I took the natural holistic approach with my 87 year old mother who has vascular dementia. Some of you might know my story but I'll summarize because today is the 1 year anniversary since my mother has been living with me on my rural permaculture farm in Panama. Last year she was confined in an assisted living facility in…

Care provider payment
I have been working on finding a caregiver for my DH. Many of the agencies wanted a commitment of a certain number of hours per week (12 to 20), which was more than what we needed. At this point I am looking at Care.com, since their caregivers offer more flexibility on scheduling and many are OK with accepting one-time /…

Early on-set My sister age 62 just diagnosed
Can someone with Alzheimer's be shown the paperwork and convinced that they have it. So they will listen to the new instructions given to them by the doctor? My sister is very high functioning and could live with her kids if she would let them help her. We are just entering this journey and don't have anyplace suitable for…

Mom obsessed with true crime shows
My 80 year old mom, who is losing her memory and has moderate cognitive decline, moved in with my husband and I a few months ago bc she can't live alone anymore. There are many challenges as you all know but this post is about one in particular. I've searched the message boards a bit but couldn't find anything regarding…

The falls just keep coming
My mil has had 4 falls since Dec 15. Two over backward (no walker) one over the top of her walker and one onto her butt after standing up. She paces constantly. Balance is crappy and the walker is not the problem except when it is the problem. Send your ideas. Maybe I’ll find one we haven’t tried yet.

I recommend the following
I don’t like to recommend things that I can not prove. But after taking these for every long time they have been safe. I also believe they are helping along with the other drugs I take. No one will ever know if this combination works but I did a lot of studding and many do agree that there is some possibility. The ways I…

Venting….doctor with horrible bedside manners
I took my mom to a GP today. I just moved here from out of state and we’re looking for a new doctor. I literally typed up notes and questions so he could look at them before he walked into the room. I told him that my mom will say that she has a brain bleed because of a car accident and that’s what’s caused her memory…

Trying to Track My Mother
My mother is still independent. I don't know how much longer. I have been able to do some tracking via the Find Anywhere app. It would be helpful to also be able to look historically of where she's going. I've investigated some and it's a bit overwhelming. I was hoping for something truly more bracelet like for her but…

go figure!
My mother is in the advanced stages of Alz. Yesterday I brought her an unwrapped chocolate kiss (yum!) and a children's book for us to look at together. She could not pop the chocolate into her mouth, even with my prompting. She just held it and was very confused about it. Yet, she knew how to hold the book right side up…

So many questions(2)
Hi all. I really appreciate this group so much. My mom was diagnosed 4 months ago with dementia/Alzheimer’s. As far as legal things, what do I have to get done asap? Are there support groups for care givers and PWD? It would be ideal for us all to have support. We have a neurologist appointment coming up and I plan to ask…

New here; crazy holiday
Hello, I have been taking care of my 84 yo, undiagnosed dad for 3 months now. Things have been declining quickly. As the summer turned to fall we noticed some cogitation changes in my dad. Forgetting he had just called us, angry out bursts, behavior not like him. I decided to go with him to his doc apt. His doc poo-poo’d…

Happy Holidays - traditions?
For us -- I have a very large Italian family (is there any other kind?). Usually, in non-covid years, it's not uncommon to have 40 family members sitting at the table on Christmas Eve. The food is always some form of pasta, likely homemade ravioli or mostaccioli with spaghetti sauce that has cooked all day - and with all…

Fearful LO with EO
My mom has EO, my sisters, father and I have had a hard time dealing with her diagnosis. She has always been scared of the dark, fires, being alone, robberies, etc. And her diagnosis has only heightened her fears and her anxiety. Over the past years, my mother has started hiding her money, her makeup and perfumes from her…

Don’t know what to tell him- our wackiest XMas eve ever
This is just a ramble. Not ranting or venting. Just reflecting on the randomness of this roller coaster ride. And working to be grateful it is not worse at the moment. My DH has me stumped right now. He is alternating between nonsense sentences and serious questions based on delusions about who I am (who he is!), where we…

Merry Christmas.
I can't stop thinking of all of you today. I hope that each of you and the person you are caring for will have, at least a moment of peace. Merry Christmas.

Can't understand what my mom is saying to me
Mom has Parkinson's dementia. She's in a nursing home. She seems content there. She seems to get good care. She's been there about 3 weeks. Prior to that she was in the hospital for 5 months for aggressive behaviors. Prior to that she was in a memory care at an AL. I'd say that for the last 9 months it has become harder…

Moving Mom in with me. Any suggestions?
My mom has been in the MC unit of a beautiful Senior Care facility for 2.5 years. Her dementia has increased dramatically, and I wish we could keep her there. Unfortunately the facility is very expensive and we no longer can afford to keep her there. After much thought, prayer, and discussion with my brothers, I have…

Respite vs Hospice
Does anyone know the specific differences between respite/hospice or has used either service. It is my understanding that Medicaid pays for respite for a limited time in a nursing facility and Hospice (which may include respite services) is coordinated by the Hospice facility and PCP and paid for by Medicare. I have…
