Dramatic Increase Alzheimer's Behaviors since Seizure
Interested if others have experienced their LO having a sudden and dramatic decline after a medical incident. For us, my son had a very difficult grand mal seizure Thursday morning while I was driving him to a specialist appointment. I think he was gasping for air and having trouble breathing. He came out of it at 2…

Memory Care Regulations
Hello, I’m wondering if someone can help me with resources to find out about safety regulations in Missouri. My grandpa has now gotten out of his memory care multiple times because even though the doors have a code, if you push on the handle for 30 seconds, they will open. Wondering if this is a requirement for our state?

Caring for unofficial VD/Alz 75F while parenting young child and a baby
Caution: Long read! Good day to everyone. I am new to this community, though earlier in my life, as a young adult watching from the sidelines, I saw what Alz did to my grandmother and the burdens it put on my parents and extended family here. She was at least fortunate to have lived a long life by the time things got real…

obsessing about leaves
My MIL has always liked her lawn kept raked and mowed. We have a neighbor do it and he does a great job. Lately she has become obsessed about her leaves on her yard. We are not talking about that many - the lawn has been gone over 3 times. My LO just came home to say he walked into MIL house and she was crying and pointing…

A Covid Thanksgiving
Yesterday I went to the hospital to visit mom. She has been in the geriatric psych ward since July for aggressive behaviors. I was turned away as I was told that a patent on the floor has Covid. So I left. It makes me sad that I can not visit mom over Thanksgiving weekend but there is nothing I can do about it so nothing…

is this considered a hallucination or delusion?
My hubby was watching Tv and called me into the LR. He asked to to ask the cat to stop laughing at him. Our cat was curled up in a ball sleeping. He did this months ago though my other cat was pointing at him and laughing. Really freaked me out.

The move to memory care(1)
Well, so here we are. I knew this day was going to come, but I had hoped it would come later rather than sooner. About a week and a half ago we placed my sister in memory care. I was hoping we could keep her at home, but it was just not good for her, and hasn't been for awhile. For some reason (no UTI/blood work etc all…

Update on my Mom.
I haven’t been posting much. The last time I saw my parents was during the week of Hurricane Ida and then I went home to deal with the aftermath. My sister and I came to visit them and spend Thanksgiving with them. It’s been almost three months (I think) and Mom has declined a lot. She has lost weight and she is very weak.…

Anti depressant question
My mom was prescribed seraquel for anxiety and that seems to be working for that. My mom also goes on crying binges, and says things like "I want to die". The doctor says the anti-anxiety medication won't help with the crying, she wants to prescribe anti-depressant for that. My question is..what does a anti-depressant do…

Memory Care intro went very badly
We moved Mom to memory care yesterday. We didn’t tell her in advance, but had the room set up and decorated with her things. She immediately asked to leave. To see her husband (he wasn’t with us, but she doesn’t recognize him anyway). Then she got mad and asked how I could do this to her. And she begged for me to take her…

dementia + COVID-19
My mother-in-law has struggled with worsening dementia for a few years. She moved to our area to be closer to her daughter about three years ago. She recently had COVID. She did recover, but was left with worsened dementia symptoms. She has been in AL, but they insist that she move to MC now. She will be insulted, deeply…

Long distance/only child caregiver of mom with AD…also caregiving for teen with mental health issues
Hello everyone. I’ve been lurking since Tuesday when my 95 yr old mom was diagnosed with late onset early AD. I’m an only child who lives across the country from my mom with my DH and our teen daughter (Senior in HS). Our daughter has mental health needs (severe anxiety, self-harming, suicidal ideation). My mom is in the…

only 61, what insurance is best if I have alz? I live in Arizona.
I am pretty sure I have Alz. I need to go and do MRI, sleep test, mem test, etc. and they will cost thousands of dollars. I have Cigna. My husband may be changing jobs and have to get new insurance. I want to see if I should to get the new insurance before I am diagnosed. Are any particular insurances better than others…

Tests for Physical Causes of Dementia, etc.
My sister and I live in a retirement community in separate apartments in independent living. She is safe so far in her apartment in that we have turned off the circuit breaker for the stove and she uses an auto shutoff tea pot. It is obvious to both of us that she has some form of dementia and is in the early stages.…

Breaking bad news to mom in MC unit
Hi there, I've been reading posts for some time after my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers last summer. This forum has been helpful in normalizing my anxiety and our experiences. Long story short, mom is 69 and is somewhere between stages 5 and 6. She's physically healthy so she's up and about and has a good bit of clarity…

How do we move my father to AL when he insists nothing is wrong with him, etc.?
My 92 year old father has dementia. He currently lives in an independent living apartment (for people age 55 and over). The facility has an AL facility next door to his building. He was evaluated for AL last week. We (my older sister, myself and my younger brother) have been told by the director of the facility that Dad…

Anyone move to the middle of nowhere with the LO - How's it going now
Hello ALZ Connected, Blessing to all. Thanks for reading my post. Due to high cost of living and poor healthcare options where I live, etc., I'm thinking about relocating with my loved one of state, to Nowhere-ville, USA. I have some places in mind but I've often though about what it would be like to live in the middle of…

Good News We can see our LO AGAIN!
HHello, just wanted to let everyone know. Regardless of vaccinations or break outs. We can see our LO. I have to be honest, since the Pandemic started I have seen such a rapid decline in my mother. Before the Pandemic she talked more and recognized me. Now she doesn't recognize me anymore, however she did recognize me the…

Misleading and manipulating husband
My mother, best friend, lives with my step father. Im 3 hours from her but would visit often or have her here with me and the kids for months at a time and she was always so much better and always happy. Is mom declining or drugged?
Mom (vascular dementia) was having hallucinations, anxiety and agitation - which seems to have eased up since she started Depakote and Exelon. The problem is now every time I visit her at memory care she is either sitting up straight in a chair asleep, leaning over her walker sound asleep or sitting in a corner staring.…

Medical Records and bills - how to keep track
I want to set up some program to keep track of medical bills and medical records. Any good easy ones out there? My Dad has Alz, and I think I may have it also. I am 61. I would love to set up some program so our family can all learn to help and use the same system for everybody.

Just needing to talk..
I have cared for and lived with my Aunt for 4 years now. Taking care of her needs while she battles this. I have seen every stage. She is now in the late stages of Alzheimer's. I am married and have 2 wonderful kids that did not deserve this, but have lived through this with me. My mom and my sisters are around but never…

How?
My sister has been my mothers companion for several years. I do most of the cleaning, handling of doctor appointments, and finances for both of them. My mom is on hospice, recently the nurse hospice told me she’s worried that my sis can’t handle taking care of my mom because she too is showing signs of dementia. I honestly…

Advice - Mom in MC and texts, e:mails toxic notes 30+/day
Hi, not sure what I'm looking for but at my wit's end. Placed mom in care facility end of June (med reminders and some care) but she's young, doesn't look like she belongs there with all of the "old people" who tell her she does not belong there. I sold her house b/c she was convinced people were living there, stealing…

Respite(2)
I’m so tired and worn out that respite by family doesn’t feel like respite. Hired people do what I ask...when they stinking show up. Family do what they think is best. It’s all done in goodness and kindness and caring but it’s too much in too short of a timespan...packing in activities, meaningful moments, projects to help…

Furious and bereft all at the same time
I just need to be sad and vent. My Father is rapidly declining in MC very far away from his children. We’re taking turns making it out there to be with him, but we’re not wealthy people and it’s very challenging. We have no choice in this as his spouse is living in a different state in my Father’s house and we cannot move…
