Eating issues(2)
Hello everyone, I have a question and could use some advice from other people who have been there. My mom has Alzheimer's and my dad is her full time care taker. I help when I can and see them several days a week, but I live a few towns over and work full time, so the majority of her care falls on him. The last few months…

Can only hear about my dad's dementia from 2300 miles away
Hello, I live in Atlanta, GA and my dad and mom are in Southern California. That's always gonna be home for me and my husband, but we relocated to the Southeast about 15 years ago to make a fresh start. My 89-year old dad has dementia. They call it "vascular dementia". I receive all information about my dad and his…

Cell Phone(1)
Our uncle has Alzheimers and still is able to drive. He keeps losing his phone and is now at the place where he can't use it. Does anyone have any suggestions about the best type of cell phone for someone with dementia? We're worried about him driving off and getting lost. We got him a flip phone with GPS and a medical…

Weight worries
I'm wondering about what other people experience with their loved ones who worry about their weight. I'm trying to organize my thoughts on this so they make sense in this message. I saw someone else's message regarding sugar and it made me want to ask this. My entire life, mom struggled with her weight. She tried every…

Mumbling(1)
Is mumbling a part of Alz? I often strain to hear or understand what my wife says. And it’s not a dental problem…her teeth are in very good shape, and they’re all her own.

Hello friends, new around here!
Wanted to say hello and wish you well. My brother, sister, and I are looking for some help with Mom's Alzheimer's diagnosis. This is all new to us. So far, we have her at her home. She had some incidents with local police, fire department, and neighbors and we realized she wasn't safe at home any more. My brother's boy…

To Place or Not To Place
I'm 74 and my wife is 73. She's had Alzheimer's for a few years however, in the past four months, she's been on a downhill slide marked by heightened confusion and forgetfulness. We live in a two-story home but, recently, I had our bed and night tables brought into the dining room after removing the furniture. Now, we have…

SO and my mother, how do you deal.
Question, what do you do when your SO hates your parent with dementia with valid reason they have a tumultuous relationship to say the least, yet your parent keeps going out of their way to try and mend the fence so to speak? We are talking a level of hatred that goes as far that my mother was not allowed to come to our…

not wandering but sleeping constantly
Hi, my mother, recently diagnosed with dementia, is not in danger of wandering. In fact, she sleeps much of the time in a chair, the sofa, and at night in her bed. Sometimes she is more alert and can engage with things up to a point. I've read a lot about people wandering when dementia progresses, but is the constant…

I'm not sure how much longer I can persevere...new to boards and need help!
Thank you for listening, I'll try to abbreviate this: * I am the caregiver for my mother, I'm 60 - she is 86. Father died 10 years ago. * We moved to the south last April from the northeast, I am her only child, a female, divorced, no children. We live in absolute paradise - sunshine, nice house (not fancy or new, but…

considering moving mom with advanced stage in with me
I am wondering if anyone has done this: Moved their mom or dad with advanced dementia in with them? My mom needs help with everything. She is in a broda chair, and they use a hoyer lift to move her, and she is on hospice - mainly for showering and the weekly check ups. I am single and work full time, but would consider…

What was I thinking? He's back in dreamland - I'm wide awake.
The irony. I am not the one with the bladder issues but here I sit, unable to sleep while my LO snores peacefully, dreaming of who knows what. A short while ago I was awakened from a sound sleep, as always... although we got 4 hours in this time before DH started his nighttime bathroom excursions. That's great! Win #1.…

New here and Mom is progressing but now doesn’t believe she has Alzheimer’s
My mom has Alzheimer’s and has been in the moderate stage for a couple of years. She is now in assisted living largely for medication and meal oversight. She has now decided that she doesn’t have Alzheimer’s or dementia and we keep finding her notes that she wants to sue her neuropsychiatrist for malpractice because she…

Made the move today
Moved my mom into AL today. Very long day with mixed emotions of relief, some sadness and some apprehension. Hoping she learns some routine and builds familiarity with her surroundings. She's 68 and mid-stage. Based on some suggestions I've read here, I'm telling her the move is temporary so she doesn't push back too much.…

He wanted to go to bed early, very unsteady so used the wheelchair got him in bed. About 20 minutes later I hear him talking to himself. I went in and asked if he was ok he said he was…

Dentist issue
I finally got my mom to the dentist yesterday. Of course my procrastination made us go out on a freezing snow filled day. I was afraid she could have an infection. She couldn’t have the panoramic film done because she couldn’t follow any commands. The manual X-rays they took hopefully showed her issues realistically.…

Hey guys hope all you caretakers are doing well! Made my grandma the appointment to get vaccinated even though the cases are sky high right now and she needs 1 month to be fully vaccinated, at least it's worth a shot. Has anyone had their loved ones catch this new covid?

Magnesium Glycenate helpful for Alzheimers
Magnesium Glycenate is suggested to be good for sleep quality. We have been trying the supplement before bed with my mom, who has advanced Alzheimer’s. She typically will keep her eyes closed on the morning. Since starting the supplement she opens her eyes in the morning and seems more alert in general.

Why it is so hard to get anything done
Why can't I make headway on this pages-long to-do list? So behind on my own medical appointments, Dad's dentist stuff, maintenance/repairs on the house, paying bills, filing, taxes, haircuts, doing something about that growing pile of his shirts that need a button or something, getting those CPAP supplies, new mattress,…

Advice for getting started
My MIL is starting to get worse. Not diagnosed yet but anyone who spends more than 20 minutes around her is seriously alarmed. We live in the same building & my husband has been handling her care so far but I need to step in and help him soon so he doesn't go crazy. He is already fielding a lot of verbal abuse from her in…

Sleeps 24/7, still eats well, no cognitive decline
Hi everyone. Happy New Year. For the past 2 weeks my mom has been sleeping all day and all night. She is only awake to eat and get up to go to the bathroom. I have spoken to both her general doctor and her neurologist and neither seem to have answers as to why she is sleeping so much. She had all kinds of bloodwork and…

Psych is requesting I take my mother home.
Hi, So currently my mother is in a geriatric psych facility much to my dismay, nevertheless my hand was forced since her current care team refuses to work with me again finding a medication and dosage that is safe and effective. Her current care team felt she was not at the stage where higher dosages were warranted for…

New here, just need some support
Hi, my mother is 95 and has progressed in probably the past year from being an active, alert, assertive and verbal person to where she now sleeps sitting on her sofa or a chair almost all day along except for meals. She is minimally interactive. No hallucinations, no wandering (she is minimally mobile with a walker). A…

Bible Verse to Lift You Up 12/24/21
NO FEAR! Joshua 1:9 ERV "Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Peace comes when we give our scary & sad thoughts to God, and do not take them back. When we can't do a thing for ourselves call "Help Jesus!" He gives us perfect answers.…

Caregiver- Take care of YOU, first!
That subject line may sound selfish, but no longer for me. It is now 2022. I am the caregiver of a now 93 year old, my mother, whom I was never close to. I am the oldest of her two kids. She has had early onset probably since her 40's, but there was no diagnosis then. Now have a diagnosis and it took a couple of years but…

Navigating unchartered territory with dementia Mom
I am the youngest in my family, also unmarried, and in a job (self-employed) that could be done anywhere. So when my parents got older, my dad and I talked, and I moved back to their community. COVID-19 hit and my work from home job seemed perfect. We love our lives, and live simply and basically, though we have other…
