Why can't it always be the same?
Not too long ago, my wife wanted to go to her mother's place. But I wasn't sure if she knew her mother was dead. It wasn't long before the subject turned to my mother. I told her my mother was dead. She said "well, so is mine". So I guess she wanted to visit the gravesite. This morning she wanted to go again. I asked her…

What to wear?
My mom can't seem to keep her pants up. She's losing so much weight that we can't keep up with buying her jeans every time she loses weight. All the jeans she does have fit her a little big. Except I noticed she tugs her jeans down intentionally so her pull ups are always being exposed. And of course she doesn't know. I'm…

MCF Chains
There are a few national or multi state MCF or AL chains that have facilities near me. Some may be franchises. Any body have experience with Artis, Leisure Care, Benchmark, EPOCH, Masonicare? I’m sure there are more, and Amy experience you can share would be helpful. Thanks.

If so, this is a must read thread from last June. https://www.alzconnected.org/discussion.aspx?g=posts&t=2147552810

Respite. Care
Last time I posted a message, it was about respite care too. Since that time two different people have come. This has been going on for only two weeks. The first time I got a text message from the lady sitting with my wife that everything was going really well. The second time it seemed to be going well also. That’s the…

Beautiful lesson of life after death of spouse.
This was posted on my Facebook page. It's beautiful and thought I needed to share: You can shed tears because they are gone, or you can smile because they lived. You can close your eyes and pray they will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that they left for you. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see…

Limbo Land
Hi, all. I have just joined alzconnected today. After scanning the topics on this Forum, I did not see any that really covered what is on my mind. So..... My wife has mild cognitive impairment, diagnosed April 2020. She began to have memory problems in Fall 2019. Things have gradually, albeit slowly, progressed since then.…

Time for Hospice evaluation or too early?
DH can still walk around the house and yard. Cannot communicate well due to due to Primary Aggressive Aphasia. In the past week he barely eats two bites of anything and not drinking much either. He did use the toilet up until four days ago but goes in his depends now and does not realize it. He sleeps okay but it takes him…

DW got her second shot.
I brought her brownies, chocolate Ice cream and Blueberry pie just in case she had a negative reaction. She didn't but she ate them all happily . I did see her for a few seconds for the first time since last March. Her hair is down to her shoulders, the longest its been since June 1975. She did not recognize or acknowledge…

Can't make a sticky thread
On another thread, I asked Jo about making a sticky thread for the one concerning nursing home/MC questions. She couldn't tell me how to do it, but I contacted administration. Here is an email I received already! Ed, Thank you for sharing this feedback! Unfortunately, our current site platform does not have the ability to…

VENT: I am screaming on the inside, very loudly
DH has been moody all day. He's bummed because the ice storm held up his favorite coffee order delivery. Meanwhile, I have been cleaning up mud and scheduling repairs needed as a result of the ice storm. I was so fortunate that a plumber became available today. We have an exterior pipe that has been leaking since earlier…

Two Wins This Week
On Monday DW’s youngest granddaughter got her drivers license and I used this accomplishment as the excuse to pass on DW’s car because the Granddaughter “really needed a car to get to work”. It went without any issues so a win for for all involved. Yesterday morning my neighbor called and gave me a phone number to call to…

was planing on retiring in July.
Now not so sure. I got a raise at work going from $12.17 Hour to $14.50 Maybe $15.00 My question is this If I worked one more year would that make my SSA go up. or would I have to work 2 more years for it to make an impact on the amount I can draw.

Something to be grateful for
Every so often I accidentally find some object that DW has put away in an unlikely place, and that I had given up looking for.

More about UTIs
Julie was asking about UTIs in another thread, so I thought I'd pass this on. My wife was having recurrent UTIs, and she had some very bad symptoms from them. At one point she wound up in the hospital for 3 days. But the thing I wanted to pass on is this. I was on another forum several months ago, and people were talking…

Psych evaluation update
DW has been in the Behavioral Health unit for psych evaluation for 13 days now. At first they had problems with wandering, aggressive behavior and being combative. She would wander into other patients room and once became combative with the staff, kicking and punching, as it took two of them to get her out of the room.…

Need a Break(1)
How do other caregivers deal with their DH wanting to be with you every minute all day long? Its so frustrating to not be able to go into another room without being followed. "What are you doing?" He asks. He wants me next to him all the time. Eat at the table together., take naps together, watch tv together and I feel…

Now I know
DH had a heart attack in Nov. followed by UTI and pneumonia. I knew this all had caused a downturn but wasn’t certain of the extent. Before all this he regularly made us breakfast including fruit bowls and cheese omelets but he hasn’t tried since Nov. Today I made the fruit bowl and asked him to do the omelette because I…

Wild imaginings (delusions & hallucinations). Roller coaster...
Oh my... We have been busy just keeping the lid on, and so far, pretty good. However, I am constantly amazed at the very odd "conversations" we have daily. I will be lucky if I don't lose my marbles before this is all over. Maybe already have. lol In the last 24 hours, DH is "going back upstairs" (doesn't exist); "did I…

Travel in the age of Covid
"Meanwhile, Crystal Cruises became the first major cruise line to announce that they would require all crew and guests to be vaccinated when sailings resume, on both their ocean-going sailings and their river cruises. Crystal joins American Queen Steamboat Company (AQSC), Victory Cruise Lines and UK-based Saga Cruises in…

Thanks to Crushed
Crushed, remember those masks you and your daughters came up with? I immediately ordered supplies and put a set together. They are The Best! DH uses them when working on-site. I customize mine with a paper mask (earloops removed) stapled along the top line of the mask for that extra layer, and a shaped fit at the nose.…

Bedridden - Reality Check?
I have checked in with questions a few times and wanted to provide a summary and get some feedback and ideas as I feel this board is full of so much helpful insight. My husband has EOAD and is 56, now entering stage 7 - I think. He has declined very rapidly the 2nd half of 2020 and now early 2021. -May 2020, was still able…
